My son and I stopped here for a nice Friday night meal. The dining room was empty with only 3 tables including us. This was a sign of what was to come. It was very dark in there and had great difficulty reading the dark menu. The service was fine for us. Only 2 servers in the main dining room.The food was not good at all. We started with the fried calamari, tuna tataki, house salad and squid salad. The calamari was fine, but they literally only gave "5" rings which is totally unacceptable as a portion. It was laughable. The tuna was alright, but it was mostly a spiral of connected cucumber. It was a foot long connected string that to eat, you had to take a bite and break it off with your hands every time. It made no sense. Then the squid salad, it was a mess. It tasted really fishy, bad. Again the dish was loaded with a foot of stringy cucumber ribbons that you had to rip apart with your hands while eating. They don't provide a knife in the silverware with the paper napkin. They are cutting corners all over the place and using inferior quality products and beefing up dishes with loads of dirt cheap cucumbers to save money. The house salad was fine. Our entrees came next and we both opted for hibachi. My son got the vegetable one which was fine, but very expensive for a handful of vegetables and rice. I got the steak and scallops hibachi and the steak was tiny nuggets that were very chewy. The scallops were ridiculously tiny, again a "cost cutting" measure in order to save money for the restaurant. We were very disappointed in the quality, beefing up of dishes with cheap items and nonsense of "5" rings of fried calamari. The hibachi entrees no longer offer a small cup of broth or small salad. Our family will not dine here again. The 90 bucks for a bunch of "cucs" and pitiful sub-par protein is not something we are willing to pay for again. First of all Gordon Ramsey needs to come and help this establishment. The service was HORRIBLE. I walked in and only got starred at no hello or anything. Had to ask if I needed to seat myself because I was standing at the host stand for about 10 mins without any communication. I ordered sake for it to be cold , sent it back for a new one and that was cold you would think ice cubes was in it. Used to frequent Tsunami and bring friends multiple times a week. We always get the same thing, but as of late the consistency as well as the quality of everything we order has gone downhill. The service has as well. The ginger salad dressing used to be something we would make a trip on alone. That has tasted off the past few times we have visited. Our orders have been coming out incorrectly and inconsistently. The restaurant is never staffed appropriately, no matter which day of the week. It's never really busy, yet the food takes a long time to make it to the table. We gave it another shot after having a bad experience with takeout two times in a row and we won't be back. Solid chineese food, not the best but decent. Havent tried the sushi but the mongolian beef and the tender flavor chicken (general tsao) are worth a try. Really good option for sushi in Mount Pleasant. They have an extensive menu offering normal rolls to specialty rolls to hibachi among others. Their tuna tataki is a really good appetizer and the deluxe crunch is my favorite roll. They have a really good happy hour with $1 bud/light and discounted food options. read more

Ordered to go food for lunch with their online ordering option for pick up. Arrived within 5 minutes after time for pick up and stood at register. Four of the employees saw me and never acknowledged me, only until around 20 minutes I had been standing there after the girl had finished a text approached me and asked how she could help me. Told her I had a pick up and gave her my name. She tried to over charge me and then showed her my confirmed itemized receipt. Made sure to ask that there were NO MUSHROOMS due to an allergy to the girl whom I watched package my meal, she said yes. Then asked the girl who rings me up for utensils to make sure they were in there as well. When I finally got to eat my meal I had a not so good feeling.. come to find out the shrimp spring rolls I had ordered were filled with diced mushrooms buried in the cabbage and barely any shrimp. Eat at Tsunami yesterday. Our waitress(short girl with glasses) was not service oriented at all. We spilled water on our table and after 30 minutes of her not checking on us (not even walking by) I had to get up and ask her to bring us some napkins and ask for a refill for my friend. The food took over 35 minutes to arrive (crab wontons, really, 35 minutes?), even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. The annoying thing was that we saw our waitress stand and chat with the other waitresses rather than working. I shouldn't have bothered given her a tip, because she did not do anything. I ended up asking another waitresses to bring our bill after another 20 minutes of just sitting there waiting while watching our waitress chitchat with her back against our table. The food is good but please hire better people or have a manager on the floor making sure people get proper service when they go to your restaurant. read more

Tsunami is a hidden gem in my mind...not that people dont know about the place but I really feel like people don't have any idea how good their happy hour deals really are. All house liquor drinks are $2 from 4-7 along with half priced appetizers. It's not a small selection of appetizers either...there are many things on their that really are full meals. Personal favorites include the Seabiscuit, Karaage, Crab Wontons, and the Tuna Tartar. Dave and Craig are the normal full time bartenders and both are great...go visit them, they'll treat you well. read more

I used to be a huge fan of Tsunami because their food and service used to be good. Tonight a friend and I tried to grab a bite there. I walked in and said hello to the hostess who was hiding behind a computer. She sat us with little to no words exchanged. We sat there and figured out our order. Then we sat. And sat. For 7-10 minutes. No one came to our table, no one even acknowledged that we were there. They also weren't busy at all. Maybe 10 people in the entire place. The hostess had less than 0 of a personality and after waiting for almost the full 10 minutes, we got up and walked out. I let the hostess know that no one had served us and she just stared at me like I was an idiot. We arrived around 6:45 and after waiting 13 mins for 2 cosoms and 38 mins for an app and another hour for our sushi we didnt leave the resturant untill 9pm the server was unapologic and the manger was just as bad. After we even told her what it was to compensate us that would make us happy she left the table and said she would have to "think about it" her being the manger we werent sure who it was she would have to discuss this issue with; we asked for our app to be comped and a round of drinks. THATS ALL. she handled the situation very unprofessionally and clearly had no inexperience, hence why there was a sign on the front door that said they were hiring for mangers. Came here on Sunday night and waited for AT LEAST 10 minutes for someone to greet us or at least get us water. NOTHING. Several servers walked past and the manager even saw us sitting there. NOTHING. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Charleston. The downtown location is good too, but this one is nicer. I always start the meal off with the sea biscuits for an appetizer. I normally only get sushi here, but my friend had the teriyaki chicken and it was great. First you are hit with the ash tray and bathroom stench. Then as you are being seated the very distinct fish odor slaps you in the face. You sit down in your sticky chair and wait for your water which will come in a dirty glass. If you're lucky your server will take your order before playing on her cell phone. Very disappointing! My wife and I went in to try them for the first time for a late lunch this afternoon. We ordered our beverages and asked the waitress to "give us two minutes" to decide what we wanted. Two minutes tuned into close to twenty as we waited....and waited....AND WAITED!. In the meantime the waitress moved back and forth from the front of the house to the kitchen, never looking in our direction to see we were ready to order. I really think she was having too much fun doing other things and forgot about us. Good to know business for her and the restaurant is THAT good that they can completely forget about a table, in the middle of the day...with only four-five tables occupied! Needless to say, we walked out - and on our way out, the manager on duty (I guess) and the waitress came from the kitchen, where I angrily told them how disappointing this place was. They simply stood there, I guess in shock, watching us walk out. Upon speaking with some other people later in the day regarding our experience, several commented that they too had a very bad experience with the restaurant's service. With the restaurant being located by Towne Center, it's a reality that thereare way too many food options for one to spend their money on for this restaurant to take such a lackadaisical attitude with its customers. I have no idea how the food is at that restaurant, but I will never find out. I could have had a better sushi experience at the Bi-Lo two doors down; and with a lot less aggravation!. read more

We used to love this place. This was our after church spot but.... But then about three months ago they changed the lunch specials sushi menu and not only was it unorganized and hard to read but some of our favorites left the menu. It's okay.. We still came and enjoyed the food. Today, though, we come for Sunday Iunch as usual and again the menu has changed. Our favorite rolls have gone up in price and it's not much of a lunch special anymore when you save one dollar. We're disappointed.. Used to be a great deal for the food and great atmosphere. Service was fine, I was having an enjoyable time out on the patio until a women with not one, but two very large and smelly german shepherds selfishly decided to seat. These were not service animals, just two very large dogs with their hair and dander blowing all over everyone's food and drinks with heavy breathing. Very unsanitary and gross. I'm not against pet policies in any way, I'm against lack of common sense by management using discretion in dining areas. No consideration for those with allergies to animals or for those who wish for a clean dining experience. Better conditions would've occurred by eating outside a dog park! Just nasty! read more
