This place was excellent! We came here for my birthday dinner since we were staying in the hotel it's attached too and it was wonderful! Pros: The service. OMG. Our server was the best. Her name was Paula and she was attentive, friendly, gave great recommendations, and she even gave us some free sparkling wine because it was my birthday. She asked if we were in a hurry and when we said no she took her time with us. Didn't rush us at all but was still very attentive. She was AWESOME! She even offered to keep our leftovers for us in the kitchen and we could ask for them the next day if there wasn't room in our room fridge for them. AWESOME. The atmosphere. Cozy, loud and fun but not overly loud so we couldn't hear ourselves. The food. The food was SO GOOD. We had the antipasti appetizer which was great. The PORK SHANK. I am not a meat eater but this looked so good and Paula said it was their best dish. It was PHENOMENAL. Fell off the bone, tasty, delicious mashed potatoes. My husband had the lamb and was equally impressed. We also had the mixed green salads and they were huge (we probably could have shared) and she suggested adding goat cheese or gorgonzola to them which we each did and it made them even better. It was fabulous! Cons: My ONLY con was that my blackberry gelato didn't have a strong blackberry taste. My only con. Only one. That's how good this place is. I went here with my work for a coworker's birthday lunch. I ordered a vegan pumpkin risotto and can't remember the last time I was this disappointed with what I got. The serving size of the risotto was pretty small, and it was $17! It was also not impressive--there was way too much salt and I couldn't taste the pumpkin at all. I didn't complain to the server about it since it was my coworker's birthday, and all I can say is that I'm not coming back. read more

This place has a nice venue but the service is ridiculously bad.. I ordered Duck and Breast with lentil. I ordered it specifically well done because I am pregnant. The food came about 40 mins later. Chicken was good but the duck was still raw. I asked the waiter to have it fully cooked. After 7 mins he brought it back and the duck was still raw. Also, I ordered a Mango Ginger Ale for my drink but the waiter brought me Maple Ginger Ale. It was just a terrible service after all. Also, the table next to us had the same issue with the service, so it wasn't just us had problems. All in all, I wouldn't go back to that place. read more

Tulio was fantastic! We arrived in Seattle on 4/8/10. Desperate for some food after getting settled in our hotel (we were staying right above the restaurant at the Hotel Vintage Park), I called another nearby restaurant who wasn't available for another hour, and then I called down to Tulio's. They gave us a reservation for 4 people for twenty minutes later, and that was that! The Pomegranate Martinis were great, and quite strong. We had the grilled calamari and the sweet potato gnocchi to start; both were very good. The calamari was surprisingly tasty, as there's no breading or frying involved - it was definitely worth ordering. The gnocchi was delicious, definitely a must-try. We had a few different salads: the Caesar, the organic field greens, and the three beet salad. Two of our party had the latter, and raved about it (though it is admittedly not very 'green'). The other two salads were good, but they were not particularly a stand-out. I had the duck breast and crispy confit, cooked medium (not into ordering my food rare). It was tasty and tender. My boyfriend had the Kurobuta pork shank, and it too was very tender and wonderful. I had a bite of the halibut special, which was also great. They were out of their crostata sauce, so we got the gelato special (espresso with chocolate and a hazelnut shell). It was very good. I also tried a bite of the Panna Cotta, which was awesome. Our waiter was attentive, but not overtly so - he made some great suggestions. We spent about 2 hours from start to finish, so we had plenty of time to enjoy each course. Regarding kid-friendliness: We saw one kid in there (older, 8-10 year-old girl) and she was fine, but the place is kinda tight space-wise between the tables - kids could accidentally get in some trouble if they and their parents weren't careful! (Heck, I'm a grown-up and I nearly hit a waiter's arm when I moved at one point!) It is also quite dark lighting-wise, which gave the place a more 'adult' vibe, at least during the dinner hours. read more

Very disappointed. As a party of 5 we were sat down at a folding metal table for 8-10. The fish was dried out and the pasta was overcooked. The veal rib chop was smothered in a cream sauce which was disgusting and i sent it back. The appetizers included a plate of arugala and not much else for $9 and my wife was serveda bowl of overcooked gnochi. Will definitely not return as there are so many great restaurants in Seattle why go to this place. read more

We enjoyed our meal here at Tulios that started with great service and a great wine selection. We chose the Sweet Potato Gnocchi to share for an app which was excellent. Not a very big portion. For the entrees we ordered the King Salmon special suggested by our waiter and the veal chop. He said the fish was better cooked medium rare.Both pieces of fish were underwhelming and small and over cooked. The veal chop saved the day and from me placing a 3 on this restaurant. Our memory of Tulio is bittersweet -- we ate here the day after my sweetheart's mother died. That's the bitter. The sweet was the lovely food and the extraordinary service. Tulio does kindness, and especially in Seattle, that's a rare and lovely treat. I hope that the last few great old Seattle restaurants -- Tulio, Il Terrazzo, Ray's Boathouse and a handful of others -- will hold out against the rising tide of upscale gastro pubs that all serve exactly the same $17.00 burger & fries. read more

Even though this place was extremely busy before New Year's Eve, the food was outstanding, the ambiance was festive (if loud), and the service was prompt. I think part of the reason we enjoyed it so much because we were seated upstairs, in a corner near the windows. (Downstairs the tables are somewhat close together.) We came with some family that wanted to try the place due to its reputation via print material. I usually not a big foodie to go out and try places like this but why not and try. I got the veal chop and it was on the menu for over 20 plus years. I thought it was ok. Little to much fat for me but I would not get it again. The price was high and service was slow slow slow. I went to Tulio's yesterday for a team lunch and ordered the linguine (with clams). The meal itself was mediocre and the cost was high, but my biggest problem was the food poisoning afterwards. Had lunch at about 1pm and by 4pm I took a spiraling turn for the worst. I have never been so nauseous in my life... which was awesome given the hour that it takes me to commute home. When my husband saw me he asked me if I needed to go to the hospital. :( Will never eat here again! read more

Staying in Seattle for the weekend, was looking for fine dining experience however the experience was less than fine. The atmosphere was small and cozy, the waiters can barely fit between the tables.. literally. Always skeptical of hotel restaurants and this proved to be a disappointing. The waiter was ok, we ordered drinks at bar before hand, so we didn't end up having wine with dinner. The waiter NEVER removed the wine glasses from the table until the food arrived, after I moved the glasses out of my way to the end of the table.We ordered the sweet potato gnocchi which was sautéed , slightly over cooked and black on on edges tossed in a cream sauce, however there was barely any sauce so it tasted like you eating fried potatoes. Then I ordered the butternut squash risotto, when it arrived it looked like oatmeal with tiny pieces of squash. No garnish, nothing... just plopped in a bowl, I actually picked a piece of something black out it but that doesn't count. My friend and actually thought it looked like quaker oats peaches and cream oatmeal... not very appetizing. I expected more butternut squash for $18. My friend ordered the swordfish, she seemed pleased with her meal. I would not recommend, save your money. read more

I am so disappointed by this place. Came here with a few coworkers for a going away lunch and service was subpar. Maybe it's because we all look young or because there were 6 of us and gratuity was included so he didn't care? No idea. We got two appetizers to share. The sweet potato gnocchi and the antipasta plate were both good but the main entrees weren't good at all. Got the taglatelle (sp?) And was so bland. the atmosphere is very Italian - I like how as soon as you walk in you know exactly what type of place you're in. it's usually busy so make a reservation. and if you have a large party you will definitely need one - it's a pretty small place. i had the seafood ravioli which had no sauce, just butter. and it was too much butter - I felt like I had to sop some of it up with bread to get it off the plate. i felt it overpowered the seafood. The menu is a little small and a little odd. not my favorite. They do have special ice creams/gelatos. I had the pistachio that evening and it was really good. it was served in this butter brickle-type cup which was as good as the ice cream! read more

We love Tulio and have been there on numerous occasions. The service is impeccable and the wait people are courteous, interesting, friendly, timely, and professional. They have always made sure that everything was as we like it. The ambiance is wonderful. We have our favorite table which is waiting for us when we arrive. The restaurant is cozy and nicely decorated. The food is consistently delicious and we have never been disappointed. The wine list is exceptional. Tulio is better than your standard hotel restaurant fare, although that is not the highest bar to clear. The space is old, which has its charms, but the cramped environs makes dining awkward for groups larger than four. The food had its moments, with the tortelli (cheese ravioli in butter) being the best thing that I tried. The salmon ravioli, on the other hand... drowning in cream and utterly forgettable. Slightly better was the halibut, although it was tough, overcooked. The old-fashioned, semi-formal feel of the place brings in an older crowd. Probably not a place I'd choose to frequent, but they deserve an extra star for making my parents happy. read more

Good for what it is. I would not say great. Tulio has a limited menu, does not like it if you don't have reservations (even if you are a hotel guest), and service is on the stuffy side- more puffed up than what it should be for what it is. The three bean soup was tasty and very good and the duck breast was good. Kids options are available like buttered pasta and pizza. We felt like we were a bother because we didn't have a reservation, but they could have turned us away if it was that big of a deal, instead of treating us as if we were second rate. My husband took one look at his entree and said "we're going out to eat after this." We each got pasta dishes which were definitely homemade, fresh pasta. We also got a dessert, pear tarte, to share which was also really good. But, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and no drinks for lunch cost $47. I'm glad that we tried this place, but I doubt that we will be back unless we win the lottery and no longer feel hunger. read more

Would not recommend this place, but it isn't terrible. Seattle unfortunately, like many downtowns has a dearth of good options in the city core. Walk 15 minutes in almost any direction and you find some of the best restaurants anywhere, but in the core, you find options sorely lacking. Tulio is in the core, and so it gets a lot of folks that are in the city on business and cannot be bothered to venture further than walking distance from the major hotels. The gnocchi which came highly recommended was awful. It tasted oily. The olive oil servied with bread was rancid. They do not use fresh olive oil, and I am sure the vast majority of people could tell how bad that oil was. The main, a swordfish special was cooked okay, but it was enveloped in what they kept referring to as 'root vegetables' they wouldn't identify which ones and it tasted and looked like baby food. The table shared two secondis in pappardelle and ravioli, both were mushy and poorly cooked. This is not quality Italian. The Pink Door, walking distance from this place is vastly better. read more

We stumbled on this restaurant on its second day of business and were impressed. The service was 5 stars, the ambiance clean, modern, and not too loud in spite of the cement floors and high ceilings. My SO ordered the granola, he loves granola, and said it was one of the best he has tasted with its toasted finish, beat only by one he had in Greece with fresh goat yogurt. He did wish the yogurt was not sweetened and vanilla, but outside of that loved it. I had the Avo smash and being Keto it fit my needs perfectly and the waitress even knew what Keto was and suggested I give the homemade sourdough bread to my SO. We're happy we stumbled on it as we live near the Alaska junction and it a great change from the French Bakery and worth the trek. We will be having dinner there in May prior to a play st Arts West and look forward to trying the late evening menu too. Welcome to West Seattle! read more

This is a dining gem, located right next to the Vintage Park Hotel on 5th Ave. Outstanding menu, service and food! I loved the wine list with a huge selection of Italian and domestic wines by the glass. They have nicely organized the Italian wines by region, with several regional selections. The simple menu of starters, pastas and entrees offered a nice selection. We had the sweet potato gnocchi which is sautéed in sage butter, so it's slightly crispy outside and perfectly doughy inside - the buttery taste is fantastic. We were headed to a concert, so we skipped the pasta courses (must return to try!) and went straight for the entrees. I asked our server what he recommended between the pork shank and roast chicken - he sold me when he said the chicken was so good he could swim in it! I was not disappointed! The tender, moist chicken with crispy skin was amazing with a garlicky sauce and creamy risotto with a hint of lemon zest. Wow! The hubs went for the grilled lamb sirloin and it was so good I had to beg him to share! The mint yogurt sauce it laid on was perfect for the nicely seared, medium rare, tender lamb. We didn't have time for dessert because we had to get to our concert, but they looked delicious. Our next visit we will plan on dining Italian style - by allowing 3 full hours to savor our meal! Ate here with a group for business and it was good but not great. Everyone else really enjoyed their food so I wonder if I just ordered wrong. My favorite things...our server was very good and attentive. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the buzz of the restaurant. I tried the sweet potato gnocchi which was amazing!! I could have just eaten a whole bowl of that and been happy. But I had the escarole salad which had good elements (cheese, pancetta) but the dressing seemed to be greasy and had an odd taste. Next I had the chicken with risotto which was fine; chicken was a bit dry. Btw...the pork shank looked amazing and wish I had ordered that. For dessert I tried the Budino which was ok but custard was a bit loose, only 4 berries?, cookies were yummy...but just didn't do it for me. Should have tried the semifredfo as that looked delicious! Came here for a semi-quick lunch and had the sweet potato gnocchi while my companions had the pizza. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and I thought the gnocchi was pretty good and although listed as an appetizer was just the right size to fill me up. Service was good and we were seated promptly in the bar area (after the waiter confirmed I was over 21, to the amusement of my companions). It's a bit expensive to go for dinner but I'd be happy to come here for lunch again. read more

I used to love Tulio back in the day, but my recent visit has made me reconsider. I went there for lunch and ordered the Caesar-like salad and the clam linguine. The salad was bland and the dressing a little mayonaise-y in consistency. Thank god it had anchovies--the only source of flavor in the salad. I had to add a generous amount of salt, pepper, and lemon to make it taste like something. My entree, too, was bland bland bland! The only redeeming quality the dish had was the COPIOUS amounts of clams. But the sauce/broth desperately needed flavor. After some aggressive seasoning with salt and pepper, I had to ask for a few lemon wedges. Still bland, but at least edible. The service was pretty good, but could've been a bit swifter, especially during weekday lunch rush. I'm staying at the Hotel Vintage Park this weekend, so maybe I'll give Tulio an opportunity to redeem itself.... UPDATE: So I tried Tulio again over the weekend. I had excellent grilled squid served on a bed of spiced chickpeas and diced sausage at the bar. Very very good! I could've eaten two orders of these, but I refrained, so as not to spoil my appetite for dinner later on. The service was good. I went there for breakfast too and had their version of eggs benedict, which has a tomato ragout instead of the traditional Canadian bacon. It was quite delicious, though I honestly would've preferred it the traditional way (I need my meat!). My companion ordered an omelet with smoked salmon and goat cheese, which was also very good. We did have to send our "freshly squeezed" orange juice back because it was not fresh. It kind of tasted like Tang actually. Our server was competent, but slightly grumpy. Overall, because of the quality of the food I had recently, I can give Tulio 3 stars now, instead of the lowly two from earlier. I still need to go there for dinner to completely revise my opinion of Tulio. :) read more
