Went in to the check out the Tuning Fork on Monday night for Happy Hour. It has a nice ring to it. The place was moderately busy, so I decided to pull up a seat to the bar. I was greeted by friendly wait staff who offered me the drink menu, full dinner menu, and the evening's specials. I chose the Hefeweizen on draft, along with the Fish and Chips special. The space was small but nice. Not too loud, plenty of bar space with a decent sized TV showing the game. The beer arrived first and it was tasty, although, I think the temperature of the keg was slightly warm. Not enough for me to send it back, but I did observe the female patron seated next to me make a comment to her husband about the Stella being warmer. She also proceeded to order a glass of ice and drop a few cubes in, so I know I wasn't the only one that noticed the slightly warmer temperature. The food arrived pretty quickly and it was a nice sized portion of one of Britain's finest pub fares. The fish was tasty, flash fired with a nice crisp batter, flaky, and the malt vinegar was a fantastic. The fries were thin cut and came with an amazing chipotle aoli which was outstanding. The problem was, the three battered fish pieces were placed on top of the fries, making them soggy and wet. A big no no, which dropped the review a star for me. The should have put the fries separately (paper lined dish?) in order to prevent the sogginess. The overall experience was good enough to have me come back in the future and seek out other items on the menu. read more

BURGER AND BEER ALERT Came in here on a Friday night for food and drinks. There was a bit of a wait but only took us 15-20 minutes to get seated with no reservations. All of the staff was super nice and attentive, from the hostess to the servers. The ambiance here was nice and relaxing. This is a small spot and is one of the more upscale, cleaner gastropubs I've been to in the area. On to the drinks and food. They only have beer and wine but they have good selection of both. They had about 10 different beers on tap and about 50-60 in bottles. All kinds of options here with something for everyone. I went for the Eel River Berry ($6), nice fruity light beer. Their dinner food menu is small but still solid and consists of some salads, soups, appetizers (munchies), flatbread, burgers, and a few other meat plates (fish, steak, and chicken). They also have a few dessert options. I went for the Truffle Fries ($7) and the Cumberland Bleu Burger ($12). These were skinny fries with truffle oil and parmesan cheese, they were great and were gone within a few minutes. The burger was delicious, the medium meat was well seasoned and mixed with the cucumbers and chipotle garlic ranch sauce. The crumbled bleu cheese was great, but a bit overpowering. We love how there were only two tables available to sit inside and we were one of them. My girlfriend and I were in the area and were looking for a place to grab dinner at. I had the Tuning Fork in my bookmarks for a while, so we decided to go there. For 8 pm on a Saturday night it was busy but not packed. I made reservations just in case. The ambiance was dark and rustic, but intimate at the same time. The menu had a good variety and was fairly extensive, and they even had a specials menu. I was really craving salmon so I ordered the salmon salad. My girlfriend ordered the BBQ burger off of the specials menu. My salad was delicious! It was very flavorful and the salmon was fresh and moist. My girlfriend was happy with her burger and I also had a bite, agreeing that it was good. Our waitress was friendly as well. Overall a cool place to grab a meal at! read more

Well we used to like coming here. Suddenly you need a reservation and they act very elitist about it. He told us we could sit anywhere outside so we proceeded to grab a table (outside) close to the door so it'd be warmer. Apparently we couldn't sit there either because there were only two of us, that could've been made clearer. The place was empty and there were many many empty tables outside. After making us feel unwelcome and like we were a problem, we just left. The servers here are super nice and the vibe is very relaxed. I've only been during the day, and used to go on Sundays after the farmer's market. The asparagus soup is fantastic, and I really like the hummus and veggies too. Really like the breakfast/brunch options. Overall recommend! We ordered drinks and I ordered a ktown mule.. I've had better. The food is a bit pricey and I ordered fish and chips which took foreverrrrrr even though it says on the bottom of the menu that you should be patient that everything is made fresh but it wasn't worth the wait at all. A recommendation led our family to spend our Saturday evening dinner here, and it was a lovely intimate atmosphere. The menu wasn't huge, but it has great options for those of all diets. I had the vegan pot pie which was tasty, but personally I think it could have been seasoned slightly more- but that didn't stop me from enjoying! Our table shared the mac & cheese pops which were out of this world delicious!! The asparagus soup is also worth mentioning for its tastiness. The pizza/flatbreads are a little small but are cooked perfectly, I would recommend pairing these with another item. The decor is rustic fitting with the style of "new american" dining and i loved the many mirrors they had there giving the place the illusion of space and a nice effect with the natural lighting from out side. The waitier was very helpful and fast, truly 5 star service. We even had to return one dish for a quick change and he was very helpful. We ordered the tomato soup it was well done and tasty (a bit salty though) with some bread toast on the side. A good starter indeed. The main cuorse was the all or nothing burger it was SUPERB! I don't recommend this place. We were excited for the "gastropub" but the beer selection wasn't that good, they messed up our beers and they were rancid. The waiter promised to give us the next one because they messed up, at the end it was in our bill. Let me start with the Truffle Fries because those are so addicting. My friends and I had 2 orders of it. Perfect to start off with and on side with my burger. As for my burger, I had the Light My Fire; with house salsa, habernero pepper jack, ghost pepper jam (which was the perfect kick of spice), tempura onion ring, red leaf lettuce, and chipotle aioli. If you can not handle spice this might not be the burger for you. Now if you like a kick of spice then I recommend this. I didn't think it was too hot to handle, but then I do eat a lot spicy food. The only reason why this place didn't get a 5 star from me because the service was a slow but it was understandable since their was one waitress working at the time. Also, they were out of my friend's first choice for drinks and food. They are know for their beer selections but they seem to be out of a lot of our first choice. Lots of healthy options, which is what I tend to look for when choosing where to dine out. Located close to home, this fine small place has outstanding food, great service and easy location We hadn't been here before and we found it comfortable with small to mid size tables and a nice bar. Lots of craft beers and some very good original dishes. The servers were helpful and very nice. My wife ordered a burger and I had Housemade Jerk chicken which was amazing. As a side we had a tuning fork dish with mashed cauliflower and 40% russet potatoes . There were two large TV's on the wall which were playing sports but our server asked us if we wanted to see anything. Very cool for a Studio City eatery. Really like the food here! The only problem (and I've noticed this about Studio City, in general) is: the service could be better. I went to watch a basketball game (even though the inside is super small, they do have a small bar with a TV). The guys at the bar were, eh. Not the friendliest. But I'd say definitely give it a shot because they have an incredible burger (which is hard to find as most of them are overpriced and ridiculously greasy and gross). The one I had is called "Light My Fire." It was sooooo good. Just because of the food, I'll definitely go back again. Keep in mind, unless you're a local like me, don't count on finding parking easily on Ventura Place. However, there are a lot more parking spots just a few blocks away on Radford and the streets that intersect. read more

We had an incredible dinner here!! VIBE: Very small quaint restaurant. It has the feeling of a brunch spot, but it's for dinner. Extremely heavy wooden chairs. Don't try and lift it; you'll hurt your back. There is a small bar at the back, and a TV with sports which doesn't seem to fit the ambiance of the place. However, it's still cute. FOOD: The beer selection was quite good. We always tend to get dark beers (stouts and porters) so we got a flight ($10) of all dark beers and one cider. Everything tastes awesome. Know that some of their beers are like 11% so you'll definitely feel it. We started with the truffle fries ($8) that were free with check-in. You have your choice of any free munchies; fries, tacos, cheese balls. The fries were awesome with their aioli which was more watery than most, which isn't a bad thing. The short rib ($28) was tender and tasty. The accompanying brocollini and mash were smooth and well seasoned. The fire burger ($16) had the perfect touch of heat and sweetness from the ghost pepper jam. I was scared it would be too hot but it was just right. Cooked wonderfully on a soft brioche bun. Though, skip on the added salad ($3) as its soggy and the curry dressing wasn't my cup of tea. SERVICE: Our waitress was lovely. She wasn't the cheerful Smily type but great overall. She described the burgers heat before I ordered, checked in on us, and even asked if wanted the door closed due to the breeze. LOCATION: Located in Studio city where they have their Sunday Farmers Market, next to McConnell's ice cream so get your second stomach ready. Also next to Joan's on Third if you want dessert there or a root beer float. Parking is street but we had no trouble. Can't give it 5-stars due to the pricing. This place quickly became my favorite new spot as soon as I walked in. It's in the heart of Studio City, and it just has that "local joint" feel to it. My friend and I were in the mood to try a new place out and decided to give this restaurant a go. There's only street parking, so you better have good parking karma. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a nice gentleman who told us to sit by the window since it's the best seat in the house. And he was right. The lighting and the cozy feel by the window really was enjoyable. He then came back to take our drink orders and we quickly filled him on the fact that it's our first time there. He was very kind to spend some time going over the menu and helping us pick our wines. He then recommended the Mac N Cheese Balls, and the asparagus soup. So of course we trusted his recommendations and ordered both. I quickly noticed that he's a one man show. He greeted customers, helped them with their orders, taking down their orders and bringing the food out as well. There were maybe 10-12 people in the whole place but I was very impressed. He was very talkative and very interesting and funny with all of the customers. Not long after our wines were served the Mac N Cheese Balls and the soups came out. Boy oh boy! They were both absolutely delicious. The Mac N Cheese Balls came with a side sauce that was a bit spicy but works so well with them. And the asparagus soup was very fresh and light. We also ordered a chicken sandwich and a burger, again both his recommendations. He also mentioned that the truffle fries were a must try, so I ordered that we my side to my sandwich. While we waited I could see people walking in and going straight to the bar area. That's when I knew this really is the cool local joint. Everyone was so friendly and talkative. It gave the whole place a very light atmosphere. At last - our sandwiches came out! And they both looked like they belonged on a billboard poster. They were almost too pretty to eat! So we dug in and they were both extremely delicious. My chicken sandwich was on the healthy and light side, yet full of flavor. The burger was very tender and tasteful. Tuning Fork is a gastropub located in the heart of Studio City in a very hip neighborhood. I made reservations here for a group of 10 and they were happy to accommodate us on a busy Saturday night. Since our party were arriving at different times, our waitress was very accommodating in taking orders throughout the night for late arrivals. She consistently checked up on us and was very patient in giving us time to order and suggested great recommendations. The restaurant is known for their comfort food especially the burgers, so my bf and I decided to share the Truffle burger with a side of Truffle fries and the Margherita flatbread. We also ordered the bread pudding to end the night. The burger tasted just mediocre to me and lacked flavor but was very filling. The Margherita flatbread was probably the highlight of the meal. It consists of organic grape tomatoes, bocconcici, argugula, basil, and garlic chips. The bread pudding was good but wasn't anything special. Tons of good stuff, but my dining companion and I wasn't very hungry, so I'll have to return to try a burger, a salad, etc (and I will). Onto the order, shall we?: 1. I chose Bench, $12, a cab from the Alexander Valley, 2012. It was outstanding. 2. Mediterranean Flatbread - a bit salty probably from the olives, but totally delicious. A small circle of 4 pieces, maybe a little small for the price. ($11, 4.5 stars) 3. Chips & Salsa - freshly made tortilla chips were great, but salsa, is not really a salsa in terms of regularity. Mixed with olives and spices, it's a spicy paste - with the consistency of hummus. Jury's out on if I liked it or not, but cheap enough. ($4, 3.0 stars) 4. Brussels Sprouts - delicious roasted flavor, cut in halves, served al dente, and under-seasoned. I've had many better elsewhere. ($7, 3.5 stars) The claim, "serve seasonal comfort food in an groovy rock 'n roll atmosphere". It's interesting that this restaurant is called Tuning Fork "Gastropub" on Yelp since the actual name on the restaurant signage and menu is just Tuning Fork and it's not exactly a gastropub. My friend and I were looking for a cozy bar to chill at but were surprised to walk into a full service restaurant with formal seating. Despite the confusion, we actually really enjoyed our meal. I had the sea bass with risotto and asparagus. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and the risotto had great flavor. I have been disappointed by many crappy risotto but this is probably one of the best I've had in a while. My friend ordered the beef tenderloin and she really loved it as well. They don't have a huge beer selection on tap, which is unfortunate. They do have a decent canned beer variety and a nice wine list. They have about 8 seats at the bar area but those seats were all taken while we were there. My friend and I shared the chocolate souffle for dessert. It was good but not served with ice cream like we're used to. Our waitress was really friendly. She was patient and attentive. My only complaint is that the food took very long to come out. We waited about 30 minutes for our dish and almost another 30 for our dessert. read more

Discovered this lovely establishment through my dear friend, Richie the C. He introduced me to Rick on a Monday a little over a month ago. Rick is the awesome host of their open mic sessions every Monday at 9pm. The open mic alone deserves five stars. Rick personally invites some of the most talented songwriters to play every Monday. Of course, it is an open mic, so anyone is welcome to join, but like I tell many people who have asked - the open mic on Mondays at Tuning Fork always sounds like a booked show. In addition to their brilliant open mic sessions on Mondays that already sound like booked shows, they have an actual booked series called, "Whimsical Stew", a Studio City Songwriter Showcase every Sunday. I truly appreciate the culinary arts as much as I appreciate good music; hence, naturally, this place realizes my dream marriage of food and song. Last week, I ordered the tomato soup with grilled cheese... the best ever! I cannot wait to try everything on this menu as I listen to some of the most talented musicians play their original music. read more
