Great new restaurant to the area! We live in the building...and were so excited to see this restaurant go in. Very friendly and attentive staff. Surprisingly good and diverse beer menu -this was especially exciting. We started with the corn bread which was really good...it came out warm and stayed warm as it was in a cast iron skillet...yum! Dinner - I had the short rib which was amazing. Great flavors on one plate (see photo). The fingerlings were done perfectly and the carrots had great flavor. The short rib was very flavorful. My fiancé had the sweet tea roasted chicken, Brussels sprouts and hominy, and mac and cheese. The chicken was delicious...the breast was a touch on the dry side but the legs and thigh were more juicy and delicious. Brussels sprouts were delicious and had a great honey flavor to them. This place was so good. I know it's an "upscale chain" and not a locally designed place, but everything we had there was so good, top to bottom. My wife went out there skeptical and hangry, to a big fan of Tupelo Honey. I went in there feeling very sick with a bad cold, and left feeling a little better thanks to a great meal and a bartender-recommended hot toddy. The other cocktails we had were great too. Went here on a Friday afternoon during their $0.75 Seersucker Martini lunch, which in and of itself is pretty incredible (note there is a 3 drink limit). For being so cheap, they were good martinis. The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived, but our party of 2 was immediately seated. Unfortunately many of the 2-person tables are far too small... I had to sit with my bike helmet on my lap, which was unpleasant. They could really benefit from some hooks under the table. For food, we had the cathead biscuits to start; these were good but cold, which was not ideal. Ordered the chicken and biscuit, which comes with gravy and oddly, two thin slices of ham. The two chicken pieces were sliced thin breast filets the size of two concert tickets. They were moist and delicious, seasoned just right. The gravy and biscuit, however, were another story: SALTY beyond edible. Now, a bit of salt in a biscuit adds some flavor, but this biscuit, although large and moist inside, was salty. But the gravy; enough sodium for a week. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. Yum, the drink was delicious and strong! For appetizers, we tried the famous fried green tomatoes. Wow, the basil and goat cheese grits paired well with the fried green tomatoes. We also had the caramelized squash and burrata toast. The caramelized squash with the balsamic glaze was delicious, but I found the toast to be a bit chewy. However, the appetizer was still delicious. I was looking forward to trying Tupelo's Famous Fried Chicken with "bee dust". It absolutely did not disappoint. The dish was huge! It came with two chicken breasts, a drumstick, and chicken wing. Plus it came with a side of brussel sprouts. The chicken was tender, succulent, and delicious. I also tried the Low Country Shrimp and Grits. The shrimp, goat cheese and everything else that was in it complimented each other. The hubs and I had come here for a Yelp event when they first opened and we were really impressed with the food. After the Bubble Run 5k, our group came here to undo everything we had just worked off. We started with the fried mac and cheese bites that were so good we ordered a second round. The cathead biscuits looked so good we added that to our round of appetizers. They were big fluffy biscuits and the side of blueberry preserves and ricotta or honey option just made it all the more delicious. Our mains took a very long time because the kitchen was backed up on this Sunday brunch. Once the food arrived though, it did not disappoint. The hubs and I shared a half fried chicken with honey dust. I could have easily eaten the whole thing to myself it was so good. We also shared the goat cheese grits, green beans with basil, rosemary potato cracklins and washed it all down with the peach rosemary lemonade. Absolutely loved our experience! The restaurant has a fun and energetic environment. The restaurant was packed so I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Customer service was good and when our server was busy his teammates helped chip in and help out. The food was definitely the best part of our experience. The homemade biscuits served with honey or a blueberry compote and butter were fluffy but also dense and fulfilling. I also really enjoyed the "Old Skool" Breakfast Bowl; the grits at the bottom of the bowl were some of the best I've ever had. Also the waffles were light, crispy, and flavorful. Started with the avocado toast points, and liked it so much that I got the avocado breakfast sandwich as well! I think the sriracha honey is my new favorite thing. I got an extra side and dipped my fries in it too. It's sweet and spicy and delicious. I am seriously considering asking if they can ship me some! (Since I'm now about 1000 miles away!) Hubby and I were both having a hard time deciding between a sweet or savory dish, so we shared the sandwich and an order or salted caramel French toast, which was rich and decadent. I was glad to be sharing it, the whole thing might have been overwhelming in its sweetness as a meal, but it made a nice dessert to the sandwich. Fun, open and bright is the environment. It's a Southern concept and the visuals, glassware and offerings all reflect an effort to bring Southern to the hipsters downtown. The breakfast bowl would have been much better served hot. For that matter, all the food, including my daughter's fried chicken - would have. Our problem was that the server was nowhere to be found. She took the order and disappeared. And by the time we got our lunch - which was 45 actual minutes later - it seemed as though it had been sitting in the window for an extended period. Word to whomever is in charge - hot food! Teamwork should work such that when our server is off doing who knows what, someone should run the food. It really was poor service all around. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant is definitely big and open. I like the southern flare. We ordered the biscuits to start, they were out so they had to make a new batch and they certainly didn't disappoint, we also had the chicken wings to start and I wish I would've ordered the fried chicken for my main course because they were so good. Got our mains, we ordered fish and steak. Both were good, but as I mentioned I wish I would've ordered the chicken. It was on my list for quite some time so i finally decided to come with my fiancé. the restaurant was not full yet there were about 6 of us crowded by the door waiting to be seated. the hostess didn't acknowledge or greet any of us for another 10 mins and the ppl in front of us had been standing there longer. when she finally did she had a cold attitude. Unique take on a sangria and not what you'd normally expect. Concocted with white brandy, elderflower, thyme, citrus, and prosecco; it was sparkling, sweet and just the perfect subtleness of flavors - a fun light drink for a weekend brunch. Next up came the fried green tomatoes. These were not your standard fried green tomatoes let me tell you. They were perfectly fried, each served on a bed of goat cheese grits, then topped with some more grits, roasted red pepper coulis, and sprinkled with freshly chopped basil. The combination of flavors was culinary perfection. For our main course, we ordered the cast iron dutch baby pancake and the dungeness lump crab benedict. The dutch baby was sweet and delicious topped with half of a honey dusted fried chicken which was also slightly sweet and juicy. The crab benedict included fresh pacific dungeness crab, two medium poached eggs on buttermilk biscuits, topped with peperonata and hollandaise on the side as requested. The buttermilk biscuit was just okay but I didn't care for the benedict much because the peperonata ruined the dish for me. If you dislike raw onions, I would request it on the side if possible. I couldn't taste the crab or the bell peppers because they were overpowered by the sharp, pungent onions ugh. It came with a generous serving of potato cracklins which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - well balanced flavors and texture; a nice change from home fries or hash browns etc. The decor is classy and the ambience is warm and lively.
