I've heard of Tupelo Honey in other states so I was happy to hear of this location in Denver close to Union Station. I also heard about their fried chicken which is the real reason for our visit. If you're lucky you'll find some street parking or theres always the Whole Foods parking garage as a backup. I dined in a little after the city started opening up post pandemic and you can tell they were taking all necessary precautions to keep their staff and customers safe; barcodes to scan e-menus, masks, plexiglass for hostess, bathrooms sparkly clean, etc. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the beautiful back bar. So many unique and delicious whiskeys, tequila, bourbons, you name it. That goes for their tapped beer too. I also hear they make a mean mimosa but I opted for a spicy margarita instead.. yum! The menu is pretty straight forward. Definitely geared towards southern style cooking. For starters the biscuits are massive (2) and plenty to share for the table with the most delicious jam and butter. The Brussels sprout were cooked to the perfect crisp with a side of light ranch. But if you take anything from this review I hope it's to try their fried chicken. Two ways; honey dusted (dry rub) and their sweet & spicy. You can order them by themselves or add a side for an up charge. I had the sweet & spicy chicken sandwich with fries and it was just the right amount of spice where I didn't feel like I needed my water nearby. My fiancé ordered the honey dusted and if you're looking for a juice piece of fried chicken, this is it. I would love to give the service the same hype as our meal but it just wasn't there for me. We waited about 20 mins to order our drinks and then another 20 to order food. We get our food and the biscuits and Brussels we ordered as an appetizer didn't come until we were pretty much through with our meal. Unfortunately, I had a negative experience at this Tupelo Honey that left a bad taste in my mouth. On June 15, 2021, at around 7:30pm, I went to the restaurant to pick up an online order. Upon entrance, I was sized up by an unsmiling employee (a slightly portly man with short dark hair) and then greeted in a perfunctory manner. I cordially informed him that I was there to pick up an order. The frowning employee asked for my name and then turned around and left. So far, not the most pleasant experience - but that's not why I'm leaving this review. I assumed that the employee went to get my order. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I waited for several minutes, but he never came back. A friendly hostess then showed up and greeted me warmly - a completely different attitude compared with that of the previous employee. I informed her that someone was already getting my order. After several more minutes, the hostess noticed that I was still waiting for my order. So she went to the back, picked up a brown bag of food, and asked if it was mine. It was. However, that brown bag was sitting at the back of the restaurant the entire time I was waiting - I actually noticed it when I first entered the restaurant. The unfriendly man who initially greeted me essentially left me waiting at the front entrance of the restaurant like an idiot. After asking for my name, he disappeared to the back of the restaurant while ignoring my brown bag that was in plain sight. The food was fine, but the pickup experience left me feeling disrespected. I'm not sure if that employee treats everyone this way or if he only treats specific types of people this way. read more

Tupelo Honey has a great menu selection and they are very accommodating. I came here in November with a reservation for a party of 6 and the service was top notch! I like that they're also conveniently close to Union Station, so it's a great spot to eat at before/after taking the train to the airport. read more

We didn't have a reservation, so the hostess suggested that my friend and I sit at the bar. The bartender was very nice and gave us a few suggestions to try, all of which we followed to a T! Fried green tomatoes were so good, as well as the grits that accompanied it. I ordered the shrimp and grits as my entree. I thought the food was just decent but not what I'm expecting for 'Southern comfort food'. We ordered the charcuterie board and I noticed there was hardly any cheese on it, a little morsel of cheese. Interesting thing though was that there was alligator meat ! My husband and I ordered two separate dishes each with separate sides to get a taste of everything. My favorite dish was the Brussel sprouts. It was sweet, tangy, hint of spice in every bite. Unfortunately between two entrees and 4 side dishes, this was the only one I would rave about. The fried chicken was bland in flavor and not a lot of crisp. The mac and cheese tasted like mac and bread crumbs, not much cheesy flavor. I was way too excited than I needed to be. I'm sad to say that I had a disappointing first-time experience here. The service was not warm or helpful. Our waitress was not happy to be there, and she barely was available. We asked another waiter if he could get ketchup and hot sauce, and those never came. I feel like the food has a lot of potential. I enjoyed my plate and my drinks! But my friend's egg was way undercooked. We wanted to ask for another one but the waitress didn't show up for a while. So my friend ended up eating around it. A solid, above-average breakfast or brunch option on a weekend, when their hours expand. Prime location if you're using Union Station as a destination or starting point, as the restaurant is literally on the northwest part of the main train campus, a short walk from the Station's back door, and easily accessed from the adjacent buses and trains. Friendly greeting at the door was surprisingly seated quickly on a Sunday morning (they open at 9 AM weekends). There is a good atmosphere here, and the bar area is available for immediate seating with access to giant screen TV's. Plenty of seating, although the two-person booths are a bit cramped, and would be difficult to manage with heavier winter jackets. I enjoyed my selection of Steak and Eggs, a hefty oblong platter that featured a delicious sriracha sauce. A little too much in the way of garnish, but otherwise, it was a fully satisfying dish. I liked their serving glasses for water and beverages, unique and good-sized. A meal here isn't inexpensive, but they don't skimp on the serving size. Claire, my server, was polite, informative, and never rushed me at any time. I appreciate that. Our first visit was during soft-opening weekend. My husband ordered the Mountain Smoke- their signature cocktail with campfire whiskey and real smoke! (it looks like dry ice almost with the fumes) Check out my video in the photos section- it's definitely unlike any cocktail you've had before. I tried a few sips- WOW! The notes and smokiness blended so well; it's no surprise this drink sold out the night before. I got a bit less adventurous with a sweet tea- but no regrets! It was refreshing, sweet, and brought me to a porch on a sunny summer day. For dinner, we had an appetizer of half a dozen oysters on half-shell. The sauces served are all great- particularly the tartar and signature sauce. I ordered the fried chicken (delish! flavorful without being greasy) with mac n cheese (soooo many bread crumbs) and brussel sprouts and fennel (a tad mustardy- I'm a bit sensitive- but was actually not too strong and very good). My husband tried the short ribs (the split pea sauce is to-die-for). Overall, our food was very well prepared! We closed out the evening with their twice-baked chocolate cake, served with salted caramel. Yummy! Food was so good that I'm still reminiscing over it, two days later. Got two coffees and two plates, coffee tasted bitter and they had me add in the liquid sugar and milk myself which wouldn't fit bc there was a a lot of ice cubes lol and the food was under seasoned. The ambiance is the best thing about this place, looks great from the outside, a little on the expensive side, it offers a good variety of food but none that will make your tastebuds jump with happiness, the food is mediocre at best. The drinks are good, but the coffee leaves you with a burnt taste for a while, I am a coffee lover but I'm dissatisfied with lots of this new chain restaurants opting for the darkest roast thinking that this is awful bitterness somehow makes a good cup of coffee, I exchanged my coffee for tea but only one option was available. They were so firm they were almost impossible to cut and weren't seasoned at all. The goat cheese grits tasted like there was zero salt which grits need salt or there's zero flavor. Brussels sprouts were great, crisp and delicious Dinner: Of course we got fried chicken, we chose the honey dusted with Mac and cheese Chicken was moist and tasty we all enjoyed it but it didn't have must if any coating, maybe a tiny dusting of flour before frying but it was good. This has been on the top of my must visit list and let me say it did not disappoint! Our server may have been one of the best servers I've ever had, anywhere. He was incredible and made our dining experience wonderful. We tried the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. Both were to die for! The biscuits were delicious as was the armesan & Rosemary Potato Cracklins. We ordered the fried green tomatoes over grits as an appetizer. Honestly, They were not good. I stopped by Tupelo Honey specifically because of the fried green tomatoes. Being one of my favorite fishes, I was thrilled to try them paired with the goat cheese grits. Three of my favorite things in one dish?! So practically salivating I frantically ordered them...and...was told they were out. WHAT?! You call yourself a southern restaurant and are out of fried green tomatoes? What is this tomfoolery?! Okay, so after suffering this loss (and honestly debating on leaving), I substituted with the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer. I also put in my main dish order of the shoo mercy shrimp and grits. For both, I'm going to keep it short and sweet: meh. Some other review said it best: everything was missing salt and pepper. It was all so bland. After I was already halfway through my shrimp and grits my waiter finally offered me some hot sauce which helped, but was still just so-so. I had the "old skool" breakfast bowl, half fried chicken sandwich with peach coleslaw, fries, and collard greesn, and a cold brew. The breakfast bowl was delicious! It came with cheesy grits, perfectly crispy potatoes, perfectly sunny side up eggs, and two sauces. The fried chicken sandwich was flavorless and dry. Very mediocre. The collard greens were a hard pass for me, but the fries were perfeclty cripsy and battered. Cold brew was refreshing and smooth. It was a great way to start off my trip in Denver and I'll definitely be back. I wish I got to check out their happy hour from 3-6 pm! read more
