The food is amazing! Our service yesterday was absolutely terrible. After 5+ minutes a server finally came to our table. 10 minutes after ordering we had one coffee drink. 15 minutes after ordering (almost a half hour after sitting down) I had to flag the server down to ask about the iced tea I ordered that didn't arrive, as well as water. No one seemed to notice how long we sat in front of a table without drinks. I truly dislike flagging a server down, I typically think it is rude. But this time I felt like I had to do it. I was excited to try Tupelo Honey after hearing good things about it but for me the food and service did not live up to the hype. I recently visited for a mid-morning brunch. The biscuits, which are supposed to be the star of the show, were pretty sad: chewy, dense, and lacking any flavor or freshness. The blueberry jam accompanying it as an appetizer was unremarkable. Big disappointment to start. The main course for me was a Mountain Morning Bowl and, whew, this was a big miss. Outside of the potatoes (which were good, but my bowl had literally 3 small potato wedges) everything was one texture and one flavor: it was all supremely bland. Not even the green tomato salsa had presence. A few bacon bits showed up ("chopped apple cider bacon") but this ended up being just a big bowl of grits with some almost different textures on top. Giant miss, profoundly disappointing. The coffee was acceptable but standard Sysco generic stuff, nothing fancy here. Service was poor. The place was not super busy when I arrived but our server took forever to initially greet us, and everything came out just super slowly. Coffee and beverage refills were also not good. I walked away feeling like there was no way my meal cost about $30, but it did. I don't know why Denver is so bad at brunch, but Tupelo Honey ain't it. read more

Tried the Mountain Morning Bowl - two sunny-side up eggs, rosemary & parmesan crispy potatoes, cheddar cheese, chopped apple cider bacon, green tomato salsa, red pepper sauce, stone-ground goat cheese grits with fried chicken. Overall, a good dish & very filling. Loved the combo of all the flavors. The chicken was ok, but not as juicy as I was hoping. Sometimes second chances aren't bad! My first time in this location was a very disappointing experience, I must say this second time was a complete 180. The customer service was a little better, there wasn't much wrong the first time I just think my server this time was more customer oriented. I started off with the Peach and Pineapple mimosa, and also ordered the Smothered Chicken and Biscuit subbing the Sriracha Chicken and a side of scrambled eggs. The herby garnishment added a nice refreshing taste to the dish, the chicken was tender, juicy, spicy yet sweet, the eggs were good, however the bacon was a bit thin. My mimosa was nice and bubbly with fruity flavors; although I couldn't particularly pick out the peach or pineapple it was yummy. I had never heard of such a thing as Tupelo Honey, let alone an entire restaurant having the namesake! "Tupelo honey is unique for its high fructose to glucose ratio. Because of this ratio, raw Tupelo honey is very slow to, and rarely ever crystallizes. The higher fructose to glucose ratio also makes Tupelo honey one of the sweeter honey options. Fructose is less taxing on your body than some other forms of sugar, and less likely to result in any "sugar crash". " per Google. I was meandering around Union Station looking for something that wasn't in the vicinity. I don't know if there's specified parking for this restaurant because I parked closer to the front of Union Station at a meter. There are lots of metered parking spots, but on a weekday at lunchtime, I noticed they were all occupied. Anyways, I liked the name and decided to grab some lunch here. I ordered a Ginger Turmeric Tonic to drink. It contains fresh ginger, turmeric, black pepper, lime and honey. It was a little different & seemingly natural, so I chose it over a soda or sweet tea. I like their whimsical glasses! The two I got served drinks in were: "Madder than a wet hen" and "Hold your horses". Next up, what to eat? I decided upon the Sweet & Spicy Chicken. Who could refuse Tupelo's Famous Fried Chicken? It is the Original Honey Dusted Chicken which is then tossed with sriracha honey sauce, topped with cilantro. Soooo scrumptious! Tender and moist inside with a nice crunchy exterior! I chose the Collards with Bacon to accompany the Fried Chicken. Those were really great as well! If I had been dining with hubby, we would've shared the Heavenly Banana Pudding. Maybe next time I'm in Denver, he will be with me! This restaurant came highly recommended so I was looking forward to my dining experience. However, it was extremely disappointing. I made a reservation and we arrived and were seated timely. It took some time for our server to come to the table, but we were willing to overlook that, given that there was a small crowd when we arrived. He brought our water and drinks, then took our appetizer and entree orders. It all went downhill from there. My sister ordered the pork, only to be told they were out. Why not mention that when you provided menus? Or when you took an appetizer order? Or at any point before the customer actually places the order for an item you know is unavailable. We waited so long for our appetizer that we were willing to just pay for our drinks and eat elsewhere. Just as we were about to ask for the check, the appetizer arrived. The explanation was that our ticket was misplaced. So we settled in to wait for our entree. One hour after arriving, we decided to cut our losses and leave. The manager brought our meals and we told him to take them back. He never asked why we were returning the order. That's basic customer service. At this point, the restaurant was almost empty, so there was no justification for the wait. I asked to speak to the manager twice. When he arrived, he apologized and explained that sometimes the tickets fall out of the machine and get missed. This begs the question: if you are aware that this is a problem, why have you not addressed it? The fried green tomatoes were delicious. The ventilation in the restaurant could be improved as we could smell old frying oil as soon as we were seated. read more

This was such a great experience that I'm still thinking about the fried green tomatoes almost daily! We got the old skool breakfast bowl with an addition of fried chicken and it was so much food for one person but oh so delicious. The sauce in the bowl was tart and spicy, such a great complement to the potatoes and chicken. We also got the country-style fried chicken and waffles and that was also really good and flavorful. The fried green tomatoes were wonderful and the grits and sauce it was paired with is a must-get for every visit. We encountered a stray eggshell in the chicken and waffles and we brought it up to the servers and I believe it was the owner/manager who came over to apologize and they even gave us a discount which was much appreciated. The Denver location is just behind Union Station and provides a comfortable oasis in the bustling new neighborhood on Wewatta Street. The space is nicely-decorated and comfortable with lots of booth and table seating plus an expansive bar. There's also a large outdoor patio. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. I see the food as a mix of Southern, Carolina low country, and Cajun. Everything I've tried has been well-prepared, creative, and delicious. Definitely a step or two (or three) above the typical Southern restaurant. We were impressed with the many interesting selections on the cocktail menu. My friend had a Classic Bloody Mary which he thought was delicious. I tried the Carolina Dreamin', a vodka collins with a special Dixie wildflower vodka and blueberry hibiscus syrup. I enjoyed it. All drinks are made from scratch by a clearly accomplished bartender. My friend had the Bacon & Avocado Melt which included apple cider bacon, havarti, and green tomato aioli on multigrain bread. I'm not sure if avocado is a classic southern ingredient, but he savored every bit of it. I tried the Roast Beef Debris entrée. This was served in an unexpected way. I received a cast iron skillet with layers of grits with goat cheese, braised green beans, shredded roast beef, gravy, green tomato salsa, fried onions, and cilantro. This was a very creative dish and all of the ingredients were tasty, but it is a very difficult dish to execute and the kitchen missed slightly. Many of the ingredients were not very warm and the onions were not very crispy. It might have been better to serve the onions on the side. This was a birthday lunch for both of us and we both thought it was memorable. The roast beef dish was very generous and I took a nice portion home for a tasty snack. Went here for a work lunch and was a little disappointed. I've heard good things about this restaurant. All the food we got was mediocre, not bad, nothing outstanding in my opinion. I had the Grilled Chicken BLT, as well as the biscuits. The biscuits were good. The grilled chicken BLT's bacon was burnt. The chicken was cooked and seasoned well. My side caesar salad was the best part of the meal. The staff were wonderful and very attentive. There is a good amount of seating indoors. You will need to park in a garage nearby. Breathtaking! I am so glad we came by here while in Denver! We walked from our hotel downtown for a scenic route and to get some steps in and we were not disappointed! The fried green tomato on top of a bed of grits was chef kiss! Both types of chicken were delicious! So you can't go wrong but if I had to pick, I would say the classic buttermilk chicken with the waffle. The waffle was fluffy and cooked to perfection! I specifically set out to eat here and was not disappointed. I sat at the bar and the staff were attentive without pushy conversation. The bar area was clean as well as the rest of the restaurant. The appetizers I got were the fried green tomatoes with grits and a red pepper sauce which was delicious and I got the crispy Brussels sprouts which had cheese and a chickpea based pepper sauce I thought was equally delicious. For my entree I got the Grilled Salmon & Creamy Quinoa with grilled yellow and red peppers. It was good but was overcooked and should have come with lemon and more seasoning. This was a great southern home cooked brunch! The ambiance was good inside. It is very close to Union Station, so you can take the light rail straight to here! The gluten free options were a bit limited, but I went with the Old Skool Breakfast Bowl because while it didn't have the GF symbol, everything seemed to be GF, aside from cross contamination of the fries. The breakfast bowl was great! Very flavorful! I ordered my eggs over medium and I was glad I did because they were still quite runny. My friends enjoyed their dishes, no complaints all around! The classic Bloody Mary wasn't anything special. It was more of a 3/5. It was also missing the bacon that is supposed to come with it. The pickled okra and olive were good though! I am in shock not having reviewed this place yet! But pre-pandemic, I discovered their Banana Pudding. I swore then that I would come back for it! Then life happened! Well, very recently, we're back and excited! So I ordered the Traditional Breakfast. This is way better than the traditional! The cracklin' potatoes make this an outstanding dish. The crunchy thick bacon is not a lousy sidekick either! I also tried my husband's chicken and waffle. I know from last visit their fried chicken here is solid. Guess what? It still is! We had for our drinks the Turmeric Ginger Tonic and black Pepper Bloody Mary. The former is not a sweet drink, but instead, it reflects the #1 ingredient, Turmeric. The latter is almost a disappointment because it's in a tiny glass. But it's not bad at all. The weakest link is the service--very forgetful staff. He forgot to put our order for the Pudding. We decided to come back another day because, based on his speed and performance, it would take another 15 or half hour wait. It still is a five-star spot for me. This was my second time to Tupelo Honey and for a chain restaurant it isn't too bad. Friendly staff, modernized southern restaurant vibes, and the food is solid. My husband and I ordered the Potato Cracklins app and they were delicious! My shrimp po boy sandwich was alright... I enjoyed the shrimp that were perfectly battered but the bread it came on didn't really hold up to the shrimp and the rest of the toppings. I ended up just picking off the 5-6 shrimp and left the giant sub bread and lettuce/tomato. I opted for the broccolini as my side and they were also just ok. read more

Their big seller is fried chicken but myself and a friend found that it was lacking seasoning and just bland. The baked mac and cheese was also bland and needed more garlic and black pepper. On the plus side, the pimento cheese was good and it's very hard to find good pimento cheese in Denver. The friend green tomatoes were serviceable (aka just ok).
