3 SPECIALTY TYKES for when you can't decide which special burger to order
    Mitzi M.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Laid-back atmosphere, great for families or couples.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food is great. Love the fries. Not a lot of restaurants have tater tots, let alone tots loaded with chili and cheese sauce. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had a lot of TVs with sports of all kinds happening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was excellent.

50's Burger with fried egg & sweet potato fries.

Amazing burger like WOW! I got a 50's burger with a fried egg and sweet potato fries. It's my first time trying this place and it did not disappoint I will definitely be coming back. Service was also nice, I highly recommend this place!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Excellent casual cafe for lunch or dinner![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a bit chilly or we would have enjoyed their outside patio and bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Jason took outstanding care of us from the moment we sat down through a delightful dessert. He kept my tea glass filled ( my personal sign of terrific service). Food delivered quickly. Hubby had a huge and tasty Cobb salad. The blue cheese dressing is made in-house and was superb. Huge number of tempting burger options. I went for a delicious burger - with granny apple slices, blue cheese, and bacon. Their buns are locally sourced. I loved that I was able to substitute fried mushrooms for the French fries. Many other substitute options are also available. The coating on the mushrooms was spot on; Jason brought me some blue cheese dressing to dip these succulent delights in! We opted to split a house-made bread pudding! A fabulous choice, moist and delicious with a slighty crunchy surface. The sauce was wonderful and I highly recommend adding that scoop of vanilla ice cream to add another layer of flavor. Private parking lot. Full bar. Military discount - full 25% on Mondays ( we will be back for that!) Go for the food, stay for the fun!

50s Jalapeno Bacon Cheeseburger with Tots

We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a couple of burgers. We both opted for the 50s Jalapeno Bacon Cheeseburger, one with tots (.25 upcharge), the other with fried pickles ($2.75 upcharge). The burgers were overcooked, but the flavor was decent. The jalepenos had a nice kick to them and the bacon was crispy and flavorful. However, the buns got soggy and fell apart before we were even halfway done. The tots were nice a crispy, but the fried pickles were a complete disappointment. They were sliced so thin that all we could really taste was the batter. The little bit of pickle flavor that could be detected was odd, and the ranch dressing served with them was runny and flavorless. Our server was good at first, but then kind of disappeared. There were only two other tables in the place, and there were more employees than customers at that point. He spent quite a bit of time chatting with the cooks. Getting drink refills took a while. When we were ready to leave, he said he'd bring us the ticket, but I think he forgot because we could see him once again standing by the kitchen and talking. We waited five minutes then finally went to the counter to pay. Another man helped us and had to go get our server so we could pay. The food was okay, the service was mediocre. I think there are better places to get a burger in San Antonio.

THE BACON BALSALMIC BLUE CHEESE BURGER

If you want to eat a HUGE over the top version of a burger that is heavy on pretense and light on style then Tycoon Flats is for you! This location on Austin Hwy has been calling to me for a while as I pass by frequently. I have fond memories of good times on St Mary's St. ending with a stop at this stalwart SA institution. While the St Mary's location has a very "lived in" look this one is quite sharp and well appointed i.e. new. Ordered: Bacon balsamic blue cheese burger and chili cheese tator tots. Each of these dishes suffered from the same problem...too much addition. A burger with LOTS of balsamic, and blue cheese, and super thick (chewy) bacon along with the other ingredients. It fell apart and I was forced to eat with a fork. Lets add by subtraction here. A feel for proper proportion should guide construction of such a dish. The tator tots were more like "a little bit of tots with the cheese". Again, the star is drowned by the accompaniment. Dial it back a bit and retain customers. Sometimes less IS more.

My family and I have tried several new burger spots and this was the first one that didn't disappoint. There are a lot of great choices on the menu for burger "adornments", i.e. mushrooms, avocado, blue cheese, etc. The actual burger patty was flavorful and held up to the additions. It was a nice consistency and good balance of lean to fat. The sides were good as well. Pricing was what you would expect for this tier burger. We will definitely be returning to explore more of the menu.

Lunch Special - Mango Fish Taco and Baby Spinach side salad $8 - a good deal, and a good amount of food!

I can honestly say that this is the best cheeseburger I've had in my life! And I've had a LOT of burgers. It was SOOOOO juicy, it was not overcooked, and it was not over seasoned. The bun and the rest of the toppings were perfectly balanced, and did not overwhelm the flavor of the burger. I'm usually not a fan of the fries at most of the local burger joints, but I loved these fries. Perfectly cooked, not crispy, but not too mushy. They specialize in burgers and have many interesting varieties - take a look at their menu. They also have sandwiches, salads, etc. The best part? They have a really nice selection of regional beers on tap and in bottles/cans. They have a very spacious patio for dining, and plenty of room inside

I went here after a Master Naturalist training field trip at Headwaters last Sunday. I had never been before. I had been warned that parking was limited, but found a great space in the main parking lot for my brand new truck and didn't have to park in the street. Our group of about eight was seated outside in a covered area with great fans above us. That area seemed fairly festive and added to our already upbeat get together. They have lots of alcoholic beverages, but are a little short on the non-alcoholic. They did have a Heineken Zero, which was really good. Adding a few mocktails to the menu would be nice. The food all looked great on the menu and as it came to the table. I just wasn't feeling anything fried, so I opted for the Mary Joe sandwich. It was on marbled rye and had applewood smoked bacon, swiss cheese, tomatoes, baby spinach, and mayo. It was really good. I substituted a side salad for the fries. All in all, I found this to be a really pleasant place. I will definitely be back to try some other menu items.

I was finally able to try this local gem. Parking is a challenge in the area so be prepared to circle around or pay to park. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is old and dated but still has local charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's in desperate need of a deep cleaning through out though. There were flies and gnats and the table was sticky.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chicken sandwich I ordered was ok. Lacked a little seasoning. The onion rings were delicious . I would love to try this place again but maybe once it's cleaned up.

It was good. Nothing to write home about, but I'd go back to try the appetizers. The salads were huge!

Stopped by for a burger and a drink on St Patty's day. Always a really good burger and the Irish frozen drinks were delicious too. I've been here many times over the years and I always end up going back when I'm in town. Absolutely go check them out. They have a large area out back with plenty of seating and even a small area for the kiddos to play while you're waiting on food.

Seating immediately by Alexis, no waiting. Drinks order taken and served right away. We placed the order of Hamburgers. So delicious and cook to perfection. Thanks for the excellent service Alexis, you are the best.

Woe! What amazing burgers. The flavors that come out and speak on these plates as they are served. This is our second visit. I had to come back because I totally was so engrossed in the food that I completely forgot to take pics. The second visit is even as amazing as the first! This is one of the amazing places that when someone comes from out of town, and they want a unique burger, this is the place! The best part is a burger flight!! We did that last time and again this time. Different burgers each time. A couple really stood out to me on flavors. Monte Cristo burger and the Feta Bacon Cranberry were my favorites. Do not discredit the Blue Bacon Balsamic it was up there in the top 5! Atmosphere is fun!! Wait staff are sweet and had no problems answering questions. The outside patio was cool enough to dine on this Fiesta weekend (April). Bathrooms were on the patio and clean! Full bar, Coke products, no coke zero, diet coke only. We will definitely return! I can't believe I have lived in San Antonio since 2004 and this was my second visit here.

I used to go very often. They're a little on the pricier side but so worth it. It's beautiful inside and outside. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I won't wait so long again to go back. My go to meal the is Howard. Scrambled eggs with crab topped with a lobster tail. So so good. Even the little bread/muffin basket they serve you before the meal is great. Lemonade is delicious. My son had pancakes and bacon and inhaled them. His mother always gets the pot roast. She wasn't disappointed. I will say although the gumbo is decent, it's not the best I've had. The roux is very dark which gives it a slight burned taste. But the flavors are there. All in all love Cappy's. I won't make the mistake of staying away so long again.

Unfortunately, the experience changed once we were seated. Our waiter was incredibly short and came across as rude throughout the meal. When we asked for recommendations or some of his favorite menu items, his response was essentially, "I don't know what you like," rather than offering any guidance. The service somehow felt rushed even though the food itself came out slowly, and there were very few check-ins during the meal. When it came time for dessert, we asked to see a dessert menu and were simply told, "It's on the menu you have," which summed up the lack of hospitality we experienced at the table. I ordered the Mustang Chicken, and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The chicken was fatty, full of tendon, and tasted more like a frozen piece of chicken that had been dropped into a deep fryer than something I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. It's disappointing because the restaurant has a great atmosphere and our experience at the bar started off so well. Unfortunately, between the table service and the quality of the food, I would not recommend Cappy's based on this visit.

It is advertised as family karaoke. The bar has a sign stating that there are no minors after 9pm allowed. The families all seem to know each other. It is almost cult-like. A lot of the kids sang and it was cute. By 9:15pm, all the kids and their families were gone. About six of our adults were left. Mondo bizarro. I got to sing four songs so I'm not complaining. I did remark to one of the remaining adults that this was cult-like. He said yes, an Alamo Heights cult. Ahhhh... Creepy, but fun. My Pacificos were $7 each, a Coke was $2.77.
