Our friends took us to this place for the first time when we were visiting he Bay Area. It was everything they said and more. At the entrance they have a sign that we used to take a group picture. We sat outside where they have a deck that overlooks a bunch of trees. I thought it would be cold, however, the restaurant is equipped with heaters accross the outside area that made it nice and cozy. Both in and out this place was beautiful. Service was incredible. Our server and others from the restaurant constantly checked in on us. They offered great suggestions on food and drinks. The food was delicious! We enjoyed every bite. We had drinks and beers at dinner but we liked the place so much we continued having drinks at the bar. The bartender did a whole show with the making of our drinks! So good! My boyfriend and I went to Tzunun on a Sunday afternoon to grab some food and watch a soccer game. The ambiance is so nice and there were plenty of open tables. We would've loved to sit outside on the patio however, there was only one tv outside and we wouldn't have had an easy way to view it. We got a table at the bar and were quickly served. Our waitress was AMAZING. She was incredibly friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the menu and made our experience super positive. The only thing that wasn't ideal is that they had music on and we couldn't hear the game but that's our problem. We choose not to go to a sports bar so it makes sense. Stumbled across this place looking for an early dinner spot to enjoy with the fam. There are so many items in the menu that I want to come back and try because the majority of the food was outstanding. We started with the potato chips, Brussels sprouts, chicharrones and the queso fundido. Everything was super savory and delicious, but the queso fundido with mushrooms is a must order item. The arroz tumbado, ribeye steak were both great choices... but were under seasoned for our taste. We asked for recommendations on the tacos menu from our server, which we chose to order the crab taquitos that sadly came back overcooked and not enjoyable. But the server noticed right away, checked in and had the item removed from our total. We ordered the Mexican Burro (mule) and a margarita for drinks. Both were quite strong but very enjoyable. Hands down, this is a place I will gladly come back to enjoy with friends and family. read more

This is such a gorgeous spot off the beaten path. I imagine it's challenging to drive business since it's not on any kind of main road or reliant on foot traffic. However, it's hard to miss. The service was top notch and the sharply dressed servers are very attentive. The floor plan is big and open and we were able to get a patio seat, which is exactly what we wanted. We ordered the lobster tacos, the surf and turf, the mole negro, and the roasted Brussel sprouts. The tacos were delicious. The lobster was perfectly plump and soft and the cheese/corn/cream were perfect accompaniments. I could have probably had two more plates. The surf and turf was a little hit and miss. On one hand, the steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. On the other hand, the crab was a little funky and I was struggling to discern why. I think I determined it was the pickled onions. The vinegar was so strong, it almost made the crab seem like it had gone sour, which was not the case. Just very disrupting for the palette. If you forego the pickled onions, I think you'll be fine. The chicken mole was very tasty. You can tell this restaurant likes chipotle and smoked flavors because the mole was less chocolatey than other places and it (plus all the other dishes) had a little extra kick of pepper. Nothing super spicy, but there's a kick on every single dish. Which brings us to the Brussel sprouts. They were delicious and the candied walnuts plus bacon were perfect additions. However, if you're thinking this will be a break from the spices, you'd be wrong. If your spice tolerance is good, then by all means indulge. But if you need a break or a palette cleanser between dishes, this is not it. Overall, I'd love to come back. There were notably more hits than misses. And I'd probably just get the ribeye steak or the steak tacos over the surf and turf. As sad as it would be to pass up Brussel sprouts with bacon, I'd also probably get a salad to break up the strong flavors and barrage of peppered dishes. read more

The concept is on point but the service and the flavors are not unique. The staff is rude & pretentious. The chef here is not what you would get in Mexico City high end establishment, not worth the money. If you want a good drink yes ... good variety but again overpriced. Food wise it's very average. Maybe if they train their staff to be more efficient and more accommodating, but if you claim to be high end ... make sure you have a high end famous chef. Anyone can claim to be gourmet . We ordered arroz tumbada ... the most watery dish. Don't try to be an upscale restaurant when you don't have the adequate staff or the experience to back you up. Hubby and I decided to grab dinner last minute on a weeknight. We arrived around 8pm on a Thursday and the restaurant was not busy even with a warriors game on. There were a couple parties in the bar area and between the main dinning room and patio there were another 5-6 tables occupied. We were seated outside. The decor and ambiance is stunning. The outdoor patio area is like you're in a treehouse. We asked them to put the game on which they did. Our server was not very friendly or attentive. He did not introduce himself or try any small talk. He just asked what we wanted to order. We started with our drink order and asked for more time to look over the menu. Before our drinks came, our waiter came back to take the rest of our order. We ordered empanadas to start and then steak tacos and Al pastor chicken tacos for the entree. It took 15 minutes for our drinks to come. By this point it was 8:40 and I knew they were closing in 20 minutes. I ordered a margarita to start and for $13 it was not worth it. It was mainly mix and ice. My husband ordered a lemonade and it was literally as if someone squeezed a couple slices of lemon into a glass of water and handed it to us. It literally tasted like water with a very small hint of lemon. You could even see the pulp swirling around. Complete rip off for $7. We are not ones to ever send food back and want to support small businesses but to charge $7 for a glass of water is not right. Maybe they ran out of lemonade but if that's the case they should have spoke up. The restaurant was over staffed for the amount of patrons that were there. Several employees kept walking outside to the patio to watch the game and just stood there. A couple tables near us needed to be bussed and my husband even made a small comment saying the employees could at least bus a table and pretend to work to watch the game versus standing right in front of the big screen. Our waiter and others kept disappearing to the kitchen area. I only assume that's where they have a break room or a bigger space to hang out. At 8:53 our food finally came. We were served our appetizer and entrees at the same time. Our server came by a couple minutes later saying the kitchen was closing and asked if we wanted anything else. We ordered the tres leches dessert. The corn and cheese empanadas were very good definitely 5/5. You get two for the price of $13 which is reasonable. I would come back just for those empanadas. In the middle of finishing our appetizer someone came by to try to clear plates. At this point we are feeling rushed. I told her we were still working on the empanadas. Before we even touched our entrees, we are brought out dessert! The gal who brought it (looked like a supervisor because she wasn't in uniform) said she would be back later with dessert as she didn't know we were still eating. Again I felt this was their way of rushing us. Mind you we are very cautious of peoples time and can read the room. There were three other parties also eating. Employees kept walking to the patio to glance whether we were done or not. Definitely made us feel uncomfortable. If we were the very last table and it was way past closing hours then I can understand but this wasn't the case. Now for the entrees. The steak tacos were a solid 4/5. Steak was prepared well and the tortillas were very good. The chicken tacos were cold and lacked flavor so 2/5 for those. They brought our dessert back to our table before we finished our entrees. I ended up just eating the protein from my last taco since they were urgently trying to get us to leave. The dessert was a 2/5. Cake was very dense. So dense it didn't absorb any of the milk cream. We ate a couple bites and left the rest. We paid our bill and I glanced at my watch again and it was 9:07. We ate our appetizer, entree and dessert in record timing. There was one party still in the main dining room as we got up to leave. As we walked out the door, I glanced at the bar area and there were 6-8 patrons sitting. As we walked out I asked my husband why they were so quick to have us leave when they had a few parties finishing up. I was surprised with our experience as I heard the owner is also the owner at Wence's so you would think they know how to run a tight ship and train their employees. It was placed on our table and lit up. They should've warned me that they were going to do that. One of us may have gotten our eyebrows or hair burnt. LOL As far as food/ main dish, we ordered the Pulpo A Las Brasas, basically grilled octopus, Arroz a La Tumbada, basically similar to a Spanish paella or an Italian risotto, ribeye steak, and surf & turf. Our group also ordered the chicharones and empanadas for appetizers. For dessert, we have churros, tres leches cake. They were good and careful with food allergies as two of our kids have them. The price were reasonable, what you would expect in the area. SERVICE - Attentive. We felt that they were all working together, making sure we were catered to. Last night was both mine and my dinner companion's first time visiting. As a Hispanic, my companion had some preconceptions of what the menu might entail and humored me when I said I wanted to go for my birthday dinner. Those notions were completely wiped away at the first sip of their Mexican Burro made with a Smokey Mescal, lime, ginger and ginger beer. Served in a traditional crockery cup rimmed with tajin, he started to settle into our evening. I stuck with the Artessa Pinot but took a sip and it was delicious. We finished our cocktails and opted to be seated outside on the patio. The recent rains meant the sound of the creek added to the ambiance and the overhead heat ensured we remained comfortable. For dinner he had the Surf and Turf, a crab stuffed Pablano Chile and Skirt Steak and I chose the Arroz a La Tumbada, a Latin spin on paella. We were both very pleased with the food, the service, the unique cocktails and atmosphere! In addition to the Mexican Burro, he ordered the La Catrina and Jardin Verde and after taking a sip from each I found the Jardin Verde very refreshing. From my companion's pov, T'zunun hit it out of the ballpark. I have to agree. We've been waiting for a great Mexican dinner place in WC/PH neighborhood - and finally this is it! Very cozy, friendly, yet very nicely decorated place and relaxing dining area. Couple of call outs - service is absolutely outstanding even compared to some super expensive upscale restaurants (e.g. we ordered a bunch of happy hour dishes during our last visit and asked to space them out - they did a great job!). Food (!!!) - happy hour menu is arguably more intriguing than dinner (e.g. garbanzo beans in chili sauce, cactus salad, etc). Dinner menu isn't bad at all either - mole main dish, artisan tacos AND a special call out for chicharones - hands down the best we've tried ever! Now reading the other reviews, maybe what we ordered were not the most popular items, but they were the ones that caught my eye at the time while reading the menu. Service- 10/10 Javier, our server, was very attentive and helpful with our experience. Drinks- 10/10 Food- 8/10 Value-10/10 Beet and Jicama Salad- 8/10 was very tasty and very filling. Huge portion as a dense composed salad even for two. Could be shared as a starter salad for four people-easily. Would order again maybe as a vegetarian main course for lunch. Taquitos Dorados- 2/10 crab taquitos, was the only disappointing dish. Crab on a menu always sparks my interest. The menu's description of the filling says "crab with brussel sprouts" which I thought it was different so why not. If you closed your eyes and had to guess what you're eating, you would never suspect crab. There was no semblance of crab in the flavor or texture of the filling. The taquitos are swimming in the soup-like amount of salsa verde, the sour tartness of which did nothing to help the crab. Could have done with half the amount of sauce, but it probably wouldn't have helped. Crab has subtle flavors, but none could be found in this dish. Grilled Octopus- 7/10 octopus was well cooked, the garlicky white beans upstaged the octopus as the best part of the dish. The Mole Verde...well, it was just ok. More on the sauces later Beef Empanadas- 9/10 the filing was tasty, the crust was crispy and not too heavy. Served with another salsa verde The taquitos, the octopus, and the empanadas were all served with a salsa verde/mole verde. Though they were supposed different, their flavor profiles were all very similar. Would have liked a bit more variety. Desserts 7/10: tres leches cake and churros. Tip: eat the tres leches before the churros or the tres leches will seem bland. Overall, it was delicious. Would go back there again to try the other items on the menu. read more

The atmosphere and setting of this place is absolutely stunning. The interior design is welcoming and we sat on the Outback deck which was very nice. There were outside heaters, tv's for the games, twinkle lights, and a river just below surrounded by trees. The setting really made the experience. The food was alright and the prices definitely need to drop. We got the queso with mushroom. When this first came out it was gooey and the fresh warm tortillas really made the dish. However this firmed up really quick and was not as appetizing. It would be a good idea to have this left on a warm. It was hard to even cut with a fork to try and eat. The Al pastor tacos were absolutely delicious! I loved the texture and flavor of the chicken itself. I am a big fan of fruit salsa so the pineapple really put this over the top. Then the salsa was a winner that came along with it. I wish we had more limes but the tacos were the star of the show. Don't miss out on these if you come! The appetizers were great, the ceviche was delicious, my only comment would be to add some other types of fish. The seafood rice dish was delicious, definitely filling and really tasty. My girlfriend and I found this amazing upscale modern Mexican restaurant tucked away in the city of Pleasant Hill this past weekend! We were only going to get drinks here and go eat elsewhere, but we couldn't pass on the tasty food that was being served around us. I'm glad we stayed too! Food: We shared the grilled octopus plate and the al pastor tacos. Food was flavorful, fresh, and you can taste that they use high quality products. I appreciated the hand made tortillas and the generous size of the tacos. (If you are looking for cheap $2 tacos served with small store-bought tortillas, then go to your local taqueria.)The quality in the meat was outstanding here and seasoned to the T. My favorite was the grilled octopus sitting on a bed of mole verde. It's really hard for restaurants to cook octopus correctly and Tzunun has nailed it! Drinks: We had multiple Palomas and Green Gold cocktails throughout our night. They were super refreshing and made with Quality Tequila and fruit juices. I can usually taste cheap tequila so you can tell Tzunun cares about what they serve and put out. Service was exceptional and you can tell this place is well staffed. Our experience was great! I will definitely be making Tzunun one of my go-to restaurants from now on! FYI: Many people complain about bad service and poor food. This place has great food and good service. Take a step back and realize gas is now over $5, groceries are EXPENSIVE and no one works for minimum wage. Having a full staffed establishment with good food is not cheap to run. read more

What a fun place. The food is good. Service is great. Drinks are tasty. It's tucked away in a small parking lot, parking is kind annoying since it's a small lot and lots of businesses. We came to the soft opening and were greeted on the lawn with an amazing mariachi band and samples of select menu options and drinks. Everything was was interesting and fun we decided to stay and pop into the restaurant to continue. The corn and cheese empanadas were super yummy and so was the Cesar salad. It's not the typical Cesar but it's still really good. It's more of a Mexican style green goodness salad. Menu is a twist on traditional favorites. For example, no chips and salads; rather fresh made tostadas and salsa or guac. The design is super trendy- lots of photo ops. A cool chair and plant wall, the front door is gorgeous. Just checked out the soft opening for Tzunun and it was amazing! First off the name is Latin for hummingbird hence their logo. I am told it is pronounced ta-noon. But don't quote me! It doesn't look like it from the front but there is outdoor seating! And it's right over a very pretty creek when full! The space is covered and there are heaters above too for when it gets really cold. The menu is pretty pricey so this will be a celebration location but the food is amazing. I started off with the Tiki Torch cocktail. It comes to the table on fire!!! A lovely drink with a strong coconut flavor that makes you feel like your on a vacation. Next we shared the mushroom queso fundido. It came to the table nice and melty but with the cold it hardened up pretty fast. More like a 3.5 Heard about this place from the owner who reached out on yelp for the soft opening. Made a Sunday evening reservation given their current hours of operation. Never been around the area and parking was limited since it's in a business like plaza. There's free street parking. The restaurant is very inviting and definitely aesthetically pleasing when you walk in, definitely preferred the outdoor and bar seating vs the main seating as it looks more hallroom - good space for big parties if you were to have your celebration here. We had a reservation so the seating and serving was quick, and our waiter was great ! To start with we ordered the tiki torch and el elotero, and the drinks didn't disappoint at all. The tiki torch had a fancy lit up that made it fun ! Would definitely come back for drinks or a happy hour should they introduce one. For starters we got the empanadas and kusshi oysters. Both were great and fresh, and loved the sauce that came with the empanadas. For the oysters they had one of their house made sauces I believe that had habanero to it, could work on other dishes but not the oysters in my opinion. I'm an oyster lover and I always default to vinegar and tobasco as my topper. We requested to see if they had that but they only make their own sauces which we tried and it was better than the first one - but was later shocked to see we were charged for it. Seemed a bit off given we are already ordering a main dish and paying for that. For the main dishes we ordered the surf and turf and the langosta tacos. The tacos were amazing, you could tell that the tortillas were freshly made flour ones and the sauces that came with it were great. It came with three decently sized tacos. Now the surf and turf on the other hand was underwhelming, for a $34 meal, I was expecting for this dish to carry the dinner. Unfortunately it was cooked more well than we had requested and the quantity just didn't match the price. Definitely feels like it needs a starch to compliment it -maybe Spanish rice ? The lobster and the sauce that it came with were good, but the steak was simple and didn't look like a decent cut to hold the price. Overall we had a good time and it was nice to check out, the manager went checking in on every customer to make sure all was well. Had great service and friendly staff. I definitely understand with the cost of things prices have had to be adjusted, but I would definitely put this on the slightly overpriced section given that not all the food wowed us/ the quantity issue. I definitely was happy with the place, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful thought out and appreciated the 20% off I got off my bill - so ended up spending $107.49 before tip. I would definitely suggest some low background music to go with the scene. I'm Latina and grew up with amazing Mexican food, and Sadly, my Original 1st impression was from when they 1st opened, That experiance was definately a 4+ Star, but now I returned for my 2nd visit with a fellow collegue that is also Mexicana and it's quite obvious that the menu recipes have gotten "Washed" of the authentic flavors. This is too common with Mid to High end Mexican food eateries. I wish they'd stay Authentic, and that the patrons would just ask for sauces on the side or to use less sauce. Asian restaurants use this model, they don't "Wash" the recipes down to be bland. Such a shame, my 1st impression really excited about this place. Absolutely gorgeous remodel from When it used to be me luckys. They did an amazing job! This is just what we needed in pleasant hill. Very modern. Delicious food. I had the empanadas and the tiki torch drink. The bar area is super fun, young crowd. Very tentative staff, beautiful ambiance and feel. Very upscale and high end Mexican, fusion vibe. Wonderful restaurant with a beautiful interior and great food. Drinks were delicious, Como la Flor was not too sweet but sweet enough. Appetizers and main course were just as good. Definitely recommend the skirt steak tacos with habanero salsa if you like spicy, red salsa if you dont want it too spicy. Our servers Edgar and Santiago were great, very attentive.
