The restaurant decor and ambiance is so cute and modern. I got the Baja fish tacos which were bland, even with the salsa added. They mainly tasted like mayonnaise from the coleslaw. My friend got the habanero salad, she said she wouldn't get it again. Portions were very small for the price. We both got a margarita and those were really good. I'm mad at my self for not coming to Tzunun sooner than I have. Wow were we impressed. It was a late Sunday dinner date for us. We sat in front near the window near the bar. It was not busy at all. The remodel looks amazing. The location is gorgeous. I was so impressed. How could this really so close to my house? I started with a Cesar Salad and one of their cocktails made virgin style. I had the Virgin La Paloma. Incredible. The freshest ingredients are used and the combinations are so good. They make all of their cocktails virgin upon request. Which is great for us little booze quitters who want a little something extra to try. The salad was good. I had zero complaints. My husband got the Ensalada T'zunun. It has mixed greens, Pears, Grapefruit, Queso Fresco, Lemon Vinaigrette, Strawberries. I was surprised because he doesn't order things like this normally but he loved this salad. It was a really beautiful salad too. Almost too pretty to eat. It was a fantastic salad in every way. Our main course, which we shared, was the Arroz A La Tumbada. This dish comes with White Seabass, Mussels, Clams, Calamari, Prawns, Spanish Rice, Tomato Broth. Incredible. We were just eating and eating so much. We couldn't finish it all. I regretted ordering my Cesar beforehand. I wanted more room for this dish. Put some on a tostada shell and you have a wonderful meal, or two, or three. I would order this dish if you're into seafood and Mexican food. If you're coming for the first time do not pass up on this one. I'm so glad we ordered this first. I almost forgot we ordered Flan because why not? IT was good, I think we over did it with dessert because we were so full. Just get the dessert. Do not sleep on this restaurant. We drive by this place all the time and today we are so glad we finally made a visit! This place has very friendly service and is family friendly too. Service was very fast, even at dinner time and we also noticed that multiple families brought their babies and toddlers - really didn't expect this to be honest. Still this restaurant is roomy both indoor and out - very accommodating. This food is just hands down amazing. My wife especially wants to give a shout out for the mushroom tacos. On first glance it seems unusual, but the flavors and texture are mind blowing. My better half is already planning her next meal here with this dish in mind. We also shared a beet and jicama salad, very crisp and refreshing. The surf and turf dish had a great balance of plump crab meat with savory steak. So glad we got around to trying this place! It is beautiful inside, looks upscale but service was friendly and unpretentious, and the food was delicious while staying reasonably priced. We had a virgin pina colada, corn & crab chowder, chiccharon, raw oysters, and arroz a la tumbada (which was big enough for 2 and reminded me of a wet paella). Everything was great, perfectly seasoned, and generously portioned. No room for dessert but the pina colada hit the sweet spot. The ambience, service and quality of food we had felt like a 5-star restaurant, but the price wad down to earth. Will definitely return! Visited this restaurant today and I am super impressed with the ambience. Service was fast. We were told that each table are only 'allowed' two tabs.. which is a bummer. I ordered a pitcher of Passionfruit margarita and it's perfectly balanced!! Enough sweetness and alcohol content! Delicious! My son ordered their bacon burger and he gave it a two thumbs-up! He said it's one of the best he had so far (he travels all over to taste test burgers). We ordered yucan and potatoes chips and they were magnificent. Calamari is also on point, either eaten alone with dip in that sauce. Yum!! Their taco platter comes with three tacos. We had duck and lobster and both amazing! I'm impressed. My husband and I enjoyed a nice date night at Tzunun. Located off the beaten path in Pleasant Hill is this esthetically pleasing restaurant with beautifully plated meals and cocktails. We sat in the main dining room which was nice but got loud petty quickly as the room filled out throughout the evening. They'd benefit from some rugs or ceiling noise absorbing boards. I found the chairs also a bit awkward and narrow. I could imagine many adults would find them too small or uncomfortable. We started by ordering some drinks and appetizers. I specially ordered the Tiki Torch to get the cute flaming drink I saw online and was excited to get a picture. However my drink was not delivered that way. I saw the table next to us later that evening with a different server have theirs lit table side. I felt a bit jipped. But overall the drink was delicious! The appetizers we had were the Queso fundido with chorizo and tortillas which was warm and gooey and served with tortillas. We also ordered the ahi tuna agua chile which was the perfect light pairing. This dish had a nice balance of sweet and heat. You could tell the tuna was fresh. For our entrees my husband had the surf and turf and I got the taquitos dorados. The surf and turf was phenomenal. Great flavors in the steak, crab, and the sauce. The taquitos fell a bit flat for me. The crab and brussel sprout mixture was simpler and not as interesting. Overall we enjoyed trying this new restaurant. The mezcal in the cocktails, although strong, overpowered any other flavors we hoped to get. We ordered two drinks and tried a blind taste test and couldn't distinguish between the differences of the drinks, which was disappointing. So overall, there are some really good aspects at Tzunun, and I won't say its a bad place to go to, it just didn't separate itself in anyway that I would consider fantastic and make it a must recommend. Great new spot in Pleasant Hill! Replaced the previous restaurant here. I love the new bright decor, Spacious inside seating, and adorable patio seating in the back. We came for happy hour which is fantastic by the way. They have happy hour every day from 3 to 6 PM on Monday to Thursday and from 3 to 5 PM on Friday. Great deals on all of their appetizers and a few of their tacos. We also ordered the seafood stew from their regular menu which is good to share and was super delicious also. The oysters on happy hour or two dollars each and super fresh. We ended up ordering two dozen between the three of us. Enjoy the cactus salad Which is really refreshing. The Mexican Street corn was all right since it was still on the cob. I think it would be better if they either served as a whole corn or cut it all off as smaller kernels because you could not really taste the seasoning. The Al Pastore tacos on the Happy menu were OK I think the steak tacos are better. The chicken came in strips and I think that made it less flavorful then if they came a smaller cut pieces of chicken. Drinks were amazing and strong! We all got passion fruit margaritas from the happy hour menu. It had a great passion fruit and tequila taste without being super sweet and you could tell they were not stingy on the tequila. Their other drinks look really good also; I will be back to try their cocktails on the regular menu! They also have a good wine list if you would prefer that instead of cocktails. Our server mentioned they carry a lot of different types of tequila if you wanted to do a tasting also. Service was fantastic! First time here. I was sent a message about their grand opening a couple of months ago, I was unable to attend due to covid. I forgot about this place but looking through Yelp and my messages I decided to try them out. The place looks really nice. Especially the patio area. It was too hot so we sat inside. Everything looked small on Yelp so we ordered a few items on the happy hour menu. I got Tacos Al pastor (comes with 3) it's small but I really liked them the presentation was nice and I enjoyed them. Don't expect your regular street tacos you get from a taqueria that's just all meat cilantro and onion. That's not what these tacos are. My gf got the Arrachera tacos and she liked those as well. We got the calamari, chicharrones, pablano chorizo ( ordered more than we needed too). We were so stuffed. I really liked the poblano chorizo mussels (OMG) I wanted more of the sauce. They gave us 4 pieces of bread which we ordered more for the sauce. (I really like that sauce) We decided to try the drinks on the happy hour menu. I'm not sure if it's because I don't really drink that they were SUPER strong (at least to me) I'm not a big drinker but wanted to try something. My partner got the margarita (strong) and good I asked for a sweet wine, the lady recommended the sangria (OMG) I don't drink sangria but I decided to try it. I couldn't finish it, it tasted strong to me which I'm sure others would like but I don't like strong stuff anymore. So I tried to finish it but sangria is not my thing. I was looking for more of a sweet wine and asked our waitress for a recommendation and she recommended the sangria so I got that. I like more of a sweet wine once in a while but the drinks are definitely strong. Definitely come during happy hour. They always made sure to come around and fill our waters. Our waitress apologized for not being as attentive which was fine she was in the front seating people as well. Surprisingly the restaurant was half empty which made me think it wasn't going to be good but thankfully I was wrong! The drinks are the standout. I had El Vaquero and a margarita with Centenario tequila and they were perfection. Note to restaurant: keep that bartender! My friends had a variety of drinks and everyone loved theirs even the mocktails. We went here for dinner the other night and had a very nice time. Our 16 month old loves her pollo milenesa with rice and beans. We had the queso fundido con chorizo y mussels to start and they were both fantastic. The arroz temblada was nice but there were so many calamari compared to the rest of the seafood. It would have been nice to have more of a balance. The surf and turf was really good too. We got a bottle of the Casa Madero red blend and it was fantastic. We tried two of the pino noirs- a taste to see which one we wanted. But they both tasted like they had turned. When I mentioned this, the bartender said it was impossible and that they had just opened the bottle. I'm 100% sure those wines are not supposed to taste like vinegar so it may have been a bad bottle or stored someplace too warm. We had the churro with chocolate mezcal sauce and the tees leches cake to finish off the meal. Chocolate sauce was great. Our server Carlos was fantastic and very helpful. And to the reviewer a few below me that left a poor review, we were seated close to you. The restaurant was packed. Honestly super impressed. I was able to try the watermelon refresher seasonal cocktail and it was perfectly refreshing during the heatwave. I paired it with the salmon and scalloped potatoes and everyone at the table agreed mine was definitely the best. The tacos were also incredible. However, sound really carries in this space and it was incredibly loud. So loud that a conversation across the table was really challenging.
