Wow, I've really never had thalis before and came here because I saw great Yelp reviews and I wasn't disappointed! I came here at around 8 pm on a Wednesday night and didn't have to wait at all and was seated in a group of 7 at a nice table in the back. Food: I got the first thali option with the unlimited option. It was actually a huge amount of food and I basically didn't need to get second helpings. I loved that they gave us roti to dip all of the sauces and food in and it was really a good amount of food! I was terribly full afterwards but super super happy. I haven't had much Southern Indian food before so it added to the experience and I really did like the way that it was so family style. Service: There's not many people helping out in the restaurant but they came by fairly often to check in on us and make sure that we had all of the food and that we got second helpings. Ambiance: Super casual and kind of run down venue, but it feels very homey and very kitchen-esque. Overall loved the unique food experience and would come again! In addition to this they served a small portion of eggplant and they keep on serving complimentary salted mint chas in small cups. The food was very simple, tasty and homelike. They are the real deal for telugu vegetarian food. They catered for a large party at my home and the food was delicious. Nothing left at the end. They were on time with the food , we had to pickup but that's ok as they are close to home. At the restaurant they are great and can cook up things in a jiffy. My friends and I came here for Indian food and I ended up getting the Gunter Chili Dosa. It was supposed to be pretty spicy but I didn't think it was all that spicy. The dosa here is delicious and is a little bit closer than Madras (which has the best dosas in the Bay Area in my opinion). The food is good. The prices are great. ( 2 unlimited Thalis for $26) Service is fast and friendly. First things first, the food. The thali came with Bhindi Kurkure, Fry, Chole, Saag, Dal, Sambar, Rasam, Chutney, Lemon rice, Yogurt, and the star of the show 2 hot, freshly made pooris. The food is on the tart side and I really loved it. It's just very simple vegetarian food. Of course, the simplicity didn't stop me from pigging out. I was a bit taken aback when the total came out to $26 for the two thalis and they didn't even give me a chance to tip them. This makes it the most reasonably priced place. The only thing negative about the place is that it needs a deep cleaning. Came here for early lunch on Saturday. The place is simple and basic and serves vegetarian South Indian fare. We wanted to order Ugadi special bhojanam thali but it was not ready yet. We ended up ordering mini idly with Sambhar, onion pakoras and Kara masala dosa. Food was out quickly and everything was good. Pakoras were not served with chutney so we had to ask for some sauce. Dosa was good and potato filling was flavorful. Idlies were piping hot and sambhar was yum.Their menu is short and there were some new items/ names for us so we were not sure what everything is on the menu. Dishes are reasonably priced. I asked about chai for my party and they immediately offered to provide a large thermos full at a very reasonable charge. I had ordered 13 cups of chai but they ended up giving me the tall standing thermos with a faucet which accommodated over 30 cups of chai (charging only for what I ordered). I appreciated their generosity and promptness with my order. The manager went out of his way to coordinate with me to make sure I had everything I needed for my party and then some. For example, they provided a huge container of sugar on the side for chai as well (I didn't really need it because I had sugar at home, but appreciated the thought and thoroughness). Took me a couple months to run through this sugar at home since we don't usually take sugar with tea or coffee! I was feeling particularly charitable with my five because the food warranted it. However, the service in my mind is still WIP : 1. They were short-staffed, so there were dishes that were staggered for eg. 11 yr olds dosa was the last to come and he was swiping food off my husband and my plate because he was so hungry 2. They charged us for 2 Thalis even though we had just had one thali and I pay attention to reciepts otherwise we would have ended up spending about 7 bucks more - they were very graceful in correcting the error. With that said, the quality of the food in my mind was mind-blowing. It had the feel of a home-cooked meal. Coming back to what we ordered - 1) My husband ordered the Onion Rava Masala Dosa and he loved the dosa, the sambar and the chutneys that came with the dosa. He and my son shared an order of mini-idlis - which was excellent too 2) My son had the plain dosa and he really liked it a lot 3) Now coming to the piece de resistance - the unlimited thali - I loved it - it had an aloo capsicum (bell pepper) subzi, vegetable korma, brinjal pulusu (a tamarind based curry), an amazing mango chutney and dahi vada (along with the customary dal, rice, sambar, rasa, chapatis and fry-yums and a semiyan payasam). One day I decided to give it another try.I had a great lunch that weekend and next time I was there with my entire family. Following things were poor- Poor service- There was no one out to take an order. Then our order was placed on the wrong table and then brought to us from that table after 5 mins. I was so skeptical to have it especially with covid cases going up. No one to check us out until we went there and waited in front of the kitchen to check us out. poor experience- The food was all cold. Except for the poorie, chapatis, rice and dosa. All the curries were cold. It was our cheat day and it was worse that we were eating carb and increasing our calories and still not enjoying the food and experience. The variety of food was staggering - ridge gourds curry, plantain curry etc were new to me in a thaali. Other restaurants typically offer the same fare - carrot/beans, aloo etc Contents of Thali- rice, choice of Poori/chappathi, dal (yum!), ridgeourd curry, plantain curry, sambhar, rasam (refreshing!), 2 types of pakoda and frymes. Helps that it was unlimited. The food was also not too spicy and most of it can be served to a baby. The restaurant ambience was also nice. Love the paintings and clean space. I believe there is a Punjabi woman there to just make rotis.. they are so authentic and pretty big! Rasam!!! on top of the world! perfect blend of spices and a hint of garlic! The food here is not greasy at all and feels so much like its home made! The service, was better than expected as i was previously warned and i believe the folks there have heard about it too n trying to get better but there are 3 things that could improve. 1. Hire young staff - All the folks who serve there are old. We met the owner's father who said he was 70yrs+ and had knee problems. He had to go back n forth to get refills! 2. Bring out food in serving containers and ask who needs what (like other unlimited places)- A staff who tried her best to be efficient had to write down the things we needed each time. 3. Show a little more generosity- pappu vada was missing on my plate. Buttermilk came in teeny tiny cups that were only half filled. The old people there are so tired there that it feels so terrible for us to ask them for a refill of something. They say "one more?" with their face saying "you really want another one?" Tried Gongura dosa- 4/5 taste was ok. It was dosa with a smear of gongura pickle rubbed on the inside of it and some cut chilli pieces inside as well. Comes with the usual chutneys: ginger, coconut, peanut, and sambar. The dosa tastes a bit sour because of the gongura, which doesn't really enhance the meal in any way. The ginger chutney was wayyy to sweet (either they added way too much jaggery or sugar). The coconut and sambar was standard. The peanut was ok (not sure why it was pink?). Overall it came out to $11 something with tip and I was still left hungry since the dosa wasn't that big. Since most people are giving the thaali good reviews, I'll have to try that next. read more

He was so kind and informative about all the South Indian curries that we had no idea about(since the menu has dishes in Telugu and not English). He went above and beyond in making sure we had a great thali experience. So this food is typical andhra style which means it's very spicy. Since we don't eat this spicy, it was a bit hard for us to enjoy or finish the food. They say that there are 3 curries in the thali but there were only 2. We came to Ugadi for breakfast and ordered vada and Rava masala dosa (I like my dosa crispy so I requested for it) . Loved the quality of food. Everything tasted fresh. It took me back to my home town in Andhra pradesh! The chutneys are exactly how they should taste... Not too spicy and not bland with perfect tempering and the sambar oh yumm!! The actual dishes - vada and Rava masala dosa were amazing as well. Vada was light and fluffy and not too oily while the Rava dosa was exactly how I asked for.. Cripsy. I would have preferred some carrots and onions in Rava dosa but may be that comes with onion Rava dosa. Do not expect much of an ambience when you are coming here. This review is based on the experience I had with them when I ordered food during COVID time. Ordered 3 items for pickup- Idli sambhar, sambhar vada, and masala dosa. The food was packed poorly (I pack my leftovers better than how you pack food for your customers) the idli sambhar had hair in it (That went straight into the dustbin). The dosa had sambhar in a chutney container and the chutneys were watered down and had no taste (I could hardly make out what each chutney since all it tasted was like water- that went into dustbin too). The dosa had a very little filling. In short, the food was pathetic! The pick-up experience wasn't great either- The person in the restaurant was not wearing a mask properly. The mask only covered was his mouth. I understand you guys are busy making food but it is your responsibility to wear masks properly when you interact with your customers. If wearing a mask is a pain for you - STOP allowing pickups. I would imagine, you would focus on the customers you get during COVID but looks like you do not really care about your customers at all. It wasn't the first time, I have visited this place - This spot was so much better pre-covid times. But, they have failed to operate in a clean and safe manner during COVID. read more

We also got the Mysore masala dosa. I usually expect Mysore masala to be spicier and dosa in general to be more crisp. Sambhar tasted like regular daal. I really liked all the chutneys on the side.
