Went here with some friends for a late night boba run. We heard that this place is unique because of its halo halo style toppings. Most of my friends got one topping for their drinks but I wanted to go all out and try the recommended green thai tea with ALL the toppings! It was fun trying everything for the experience but I think next time I'll limit myself a bit LOL. You get the wow-factor from a bunch of toppings, but not much otherwise. Came here twice, first time, apparently the boba isn't ready at open and is ~40-50 minute wait, which kind of sucks considering they have opening times that are usually later than most boba shops. My friend ended up having a very weak drink(watered down) which as anyone knows, is very disappointing. My second time around, came later in the day around dinner for Sunday and it was pretty much dead. They also seemed to revamp their ordering system as their menu has slightly changed in ordering process. Classic Milk Tea - 3/5 I'm honestly conflicted as the tea tastes are very muddled and confusing. Normal classic milk teas at almost every other location are usually black teas, sometimes oolong but here I was getting both hints of a bit of jasmine and hints of sweeter nutty/caramely tones (oolong or the brown sugar?). I'm obviously assuming its not Jasmine as jasmine has it's own order but could use some more help in the taste department. Toppings are hit or miss in a lot of aspects but as I really only care about boba, I think the boba was nicely cooked and flavored. Topping of the "day" is usually a paw print in a certain flavor, I've seen them have Thai and Ube so far. Sweet/weak tea *was* fixed from the first visit but also brings up consistency issues. Pricing, I'm not sure, essentially you're paying more, to get less total toppings, but more variety. May not fit many peoples palettes and if you frequent boba in the Bay, especially in the Cupertino area, you'll notice that a lot of places will actually prevent additional toppings as it changes taste profiles. Overall, a decent enough dessert that is open very late, but not a regular boba spot due to pricing, consistency, and tea profiles. The yelp also speaks about selling sushi snacks, but if I'm not mistaken, that is only a catering option at this time. If those snacks do end up making it into the menu I think it'd have more of an edge in an otherwise oversaturated boba area of SJ (Vietnam Town). read more

Really great drinks. Got the matcha drink with 9 toppings (custom). I shared a drink with my drink (the right one). I believe the toppings we got were nata de coco, matcha jelly?, pandan jelly, lychee, boba, grass jelly, yellow pudding, and I forgot the rest. When you get the drink, it's sitting on top of a cap, with a hole in the middle for the straw. Opted for 50% sweet and it was perfect. The matcha quality is there and I am a matcha lover!! The staff is always efficient and nice! I love to get the full topping with jasmine milktea on strong. I don't usually see a strong/light flavor option in most boba shops and what draws me back to this place is how aromatic the tea is. I am a big fan of the toppings used, it makes the drink so fun and unique, it's always a little bit different every time I order. The toppings are reminiscent of Vietnamese che toppings and jellies which I enjoy. I also love the pudding cubes that go in the drink. They give you a spoon to help you eat the toppings for after you finish the drink. They additionally have little desserts available for purchase such as one shaped like a slice of cheese. Was so excited to try this fun concept of milk tea that is popular in Vietnam! The toppings were adorable and the customizations were fun to choose. We did the DIY drinks where you get to choose your base and toppings. Unfortunately, we ended up not getting some of the toppings we chose and getting others we didn't even choose. Uju is located in Vietnam Town in San Jose. This is a very busy plaza, especially on weekends and weeknights, so parking may be hit or miss - if you do not mind parking further away, there is more parking by the back end of the plaza. Service was good - the employees working were friendly and patient, they were ready to answer many questions from all the customers and spent time explaining their concept to each customer, which did cause a long line / wait, even when there were only a handful of customers. I was intrigued by their Full Topping (the DIY option), but I felt like there will be too much toppings and not much drink to it. I ended up just ordering their Jasmine Milk Tea with boba & herbal jelly and a Matcha Cheese Slice on the side. I was torn between the Cheese Slice and Matcha Cheese Slice, I was told the matcha one was more popular, so I opted for this one over the original. The milk tea has a bitter and very strong tea taste to it without much of creaminess to it, which I did not prefer. Their boba was a bit on the bouncy / chewy side, while the grass jelly has a smooth texture to it. The matcha cheese has a very soft jelly taste to it, which was unexpected, it was not that sweet and the matcha taste was very light - honestly, it was nothing special, as it did not really have much of a cheese or matcha taste to it and it was $3 for a tiny portion. It was a total of about $14 for a pretty small sized cup with 2 toppings (it was $1 per topping, which is pretty steep) and a small slice of the matcha cheese. They did give customers a sample of one of their premium topping called Mystery Paw, which I believe is a strawberry jelly with a paw shaped like a dog / cat paw. I felt like for the drink taste and price, it would be between 1.5 - 2 stars, but because of the friendly service, I would say it is overall 3 stars. read more

Really fun and new boba concept! The staff were super friendly when we approached and offered to explain the menu, as it is a bit intimidating at first with the huge array of toppings and different options to build your own drink. I got the full topping milk tea, which came with a random assortment of toppings, all of which had different textures and flavors, which kept things interesting. They give you spoons to eat the toppings as the ratio is a lot more toppings to not as much tea, but I really enjoyed the tea flavor as it wasn't too sweet. Cute dessert place to grab a refreshing boba and Vietnamese Che treat after dinner or on a hot day. I ordered the Vietnamese cheese foam and mango chia drink. The coffee has that viet coffee taste with a savory salty foam. The Mango was fruity and chunky. We came in on a Friday night and the service was pretty fast! The decor around the store was space themed, which was really cute. There are a few tables instead the store and outside the store, so you can enjoy our drinks and chill. When you order your drinks, you'll grab one of the "Build Your Own" menus and select which options you'd like for your drink. They recommend for us to choose our tea strength to Strong, which indeed was quite strong. If you want to take cute pictures of the drinks with the toppings, choose On Top. All the drinks that we got ( recommended sweetness level was 75%): Jasmine Milk Tea, Green Thai, Mango chia and Peach Milk tea. We all opted to have Full Toppings (assortment of all their toppings) and had them On Top. I'd recommend getting 100% sweetness or even 125% sweetness, because 75% wasn't actually as sweet as we thought. The drinks were diluted because the amount of ice in each drink, but the initial few sips of each drink was great. The Jasmine and Green Thai milk tea were watered down more than the Peach Milk Tea and the Mango Chia. Hopefully later, they have the option to adjust the level of ice in their drinks, so the drinks sustain the flavor and not get watered down. Would rate my experience as a 3.5 overall. Uju is located in Vietnamtown at the old T4 location. It's a similar concept to Unu Cafe in Westminster, which at first I thought was a play on their name, but apparently Uju also means "Space" in korean (which explains the space theme)! They were passing out little handheld blown-up space-themed items to the kids in line, which I thought was very cute. The service was friendly and there wasn't much of a line when we came for the grand opening, but it took a bit longer since they were having some issues with their ordering system and they were struggling a bit with making the drinks. The drinks were on the higher side ($9 for a DIY full topping), but they were passing out a B2G1 Grand Opening card, which made it a bit better (I wish they had just applied the promo automatically in the system instead, because it felt awkward to ask to apply it onto the bill when the ordering process took 10 minutes). For perspective, from the time we got into line (we were 7th in line) till the time we got our drinks, it took a little over an 1 hour. When we finally got our order, we noticed that several of our drink orders were wrong, but we didn't want to wait for them to remake them. Also, the cups weren't as large as the ones at Unu. I'm just glad that San Jose is finally getting some trendy stuff! Wish they offered some more topping options, but maybe they will expand on that later! Some words of advice for the management: - It'll be a quicker process to charge for the DIY toppings drink at the register and give the customer their number. Then when you're working on the order, call out their number and have them come up to the toppings to pick out their toppings on the spot. It's much more efficient than trying to input all of the toppings on the register! - The white furniture is really cute, but quickly became dirty, so I hope you'll figure out how to maintain it so that it doesn't wear out too quickly! read more

Woot woot, new boba shop alert! Uju is the newest boba additional to VN Town and I'm so glad my bf and I got to try it! We first heard abt it from the Facebook group An Vat San Jose and have been intrigued ever since! They have such unique toppings compared to the rest of the shops in this plaza so that definitely sets them apart from the others. I love the "full topping" concept as I've seen so many shops in Vietnam have the same drinks over there. It means instead of choosing your one-two topping for your drink, you get a random selection of 9 toppings. Super unique! The menu is quite extensive and confusing hence the -1 star. I wish they had more drink options. They have crazy amount of topping option which is amazing but very limited when it comes to the drink itself.
