I actually came to this restaurant THREE times in one week... I kid you not. The quality of the sushi is phenomenal. There are TONS of rolls to choose from! Some were new to me, which is always exciting because I dislike a boring sushi menu that every other one has. The service was great when I went on Tuesday evening last week, and during lunch on Thursday of last week. I went Friday night and they were busy so the service wasn't as great as the previous times. It's understandable because Friday nights are busy and the place is rather small, so I won't let that get in the way of a five star rating. Just know if you go on a Friday night, it will probably be slower to get your food, I noticed that delivery services coming to pick up food were very abundant and they prioritize that over the sit-down diners, understandable. Satisfied my craving for sushi in one trip! My dad and I came here after searching for a nearby sushi place on yelp and I am so glad we discovered this gem. I was more than happy with the rolls that we got. We got three rolls but I can't recall the name of one of them. Between the Tiger Roll, another roll and Sweet Heart rolls, my dad and I both agreed that the Sweet Heart was the best. The jalapeño on top wasn't an overwhelming taste but instead, added a little extra burst of flavor that complimented the rest of the roll. One of the better sushi restaurants in Lutz this place is packed on a Friday and a Saturday night so we have opted for takeaway. Our usual order consists of a tuna Tataki, dragon roll, apocalypse roll, queen peaceful, tiger roll, titanic roll, out of control roll and an amazing tuna roll! You can call and order in or you can use their online ordering system both work very well. I usually get a few chances to chat with Andy who is the stellar manager of this fine establishment. Not yet 5 stars. It is about 4.5 stars. Since no half star, 5 stars is given for good service. Umami server to sushi chef are very young in age. Don't be fool by the young age. Their new intention and recreation is very trendy. Start with weakness. The sushi is a bit above average on the three rolls special. I have the spicy tuna, spicy white tuna mango, and cowboy rolls. The spicy tuna instead grind meat, I would prefer dice meat. The spicy white tuna mango is interesting. The cowboy roll is seared beef in sushi roll. All are creative. I think need to work on the flavor. The bento box is amazing. The sashimi has very nice pieces of fish. They are very fresh and not fishy at all. The tempura bento also very nice. They have the best skill for tempura. A real Japanese technique is to glue each coating separately and creat needle type tempura look. If you see a smooth breaded coating, those are lazy type of cooking. He breading coating need to needle type. All bento box has very good fry rice. Love it. In addition, the sashimi has fatty tuna, king salmon, madai, fluke. Those are more choices on special type of fish. This choice make them stand out from other sushi place. read more

Recommended by a friend and thought to give it a try while we were nearby. Ordered a Chirashi bowl and few specials rolls, but the fishes weren't too fresh. All rolls tasted somewhat alike, maybe because they put too much sauce on it. The service could definitely be better. Look like they had whole bunch of teenagers that doesn't know what they're doing. When we ask for to go boxes, the guy littering only brings us one small box and didn't even check how much food we have left. It took him at least 5 tries just to get us checked out. read more

I've been eating at this place at least once a few months. I'm a big seafood person myself, and this has to be my favorite place to eat for that. Although, the prices for the all-you-eat is quite pricey. It depends on what time you are going if I'm going to be honest. I recall it was $20 for lunch, $30 for a single person when having dinner. (We had a table of 4, and it totaled out to $120 on the bill) But they serve some good quality stuff. Reminds me of a luxurious/fancy place too, and interior is clean. There are plenty of choices to choose from--but my favorite one has to be either the "Crunchy Crunchy Roll" or the "Spicy Salmon Roll". These are the ones that have rice inside, then the toppings on top, but rolled in seaweed in the exterior. They're the hand rolls to be specific. Some minor problems that I want to say is that the service can be quite slow. Well, it's quite the popular place, which makes sense. I'd recommend if you get a seat in advance, since when you walk in you'd be told to wait for fifteen minutes or so. But if you're a big fan of seafood and sushi then this is a nice place for you. read more

Because I enjoyed this sushi and would happily return. --- --- --- I don't know how a sushi restaurant relatively close to my house with great reviews suddenly popped up out of nowhere on me. But here we are. Unfortunately, that having a one-year old thing prevents us from eating out after his bed time. And because bed time was dangerously close to starting when I got the hankering for sushi, I called in a pick-up order to bring home. Of all the types of food that one can eat to-go, I'd say that sushi is one of the more unfortunate cuisines. It's just such a better experience in-restaurant, I feel. So I write this 4-star review with an asterisk: the sushi was a notch below 5-stars for me, but I happily admit that it could easily be pushed up a star with an in-person visit next time. The menu was very, very large. It actually took several rounds of going back and forth between all of the choices before I eventually settled on a selection. One of the negative things about sushi to go is that we really didn't know which roll was which, but the good news is that I found all of them to range from good-to-great - especially since it was to-go. I also liked that they had fried rice on the menu, which oddly enough, worked well as a "side dish" next to a main course that was also covered in rice. It came with some Japanese mayo, which makes everything better. And in my brief experience inside the actual restaurant, the person who took my credit card was incredibly nice. Umami Sushi surprised me, I saw it had good reviews but I wasn't expecting it to be THIS good. This quaint little restaurant is beautifully decorated with glittery brick walls with colored lights. Played some R&B tunes on a Sunday afternoon, not a GIANT place but enough room to breathe. The food is the highlight. Fresh ingredients, properly made/prepared, beautifully served, good sauces, BOMB sushi, huge variety on the menu - all for a GOOD price. Crab rangoons came out hot and fresh. The tuna tartar is to die for. Thai Iced Tea also very good. They even have a kids menu, so bring the little ones along! Service was quick, waitress was knowledgeable and accommodating. Very friendly as well. The apple sake-tini was DELICIOUS and the house sake was really good too. My sister lives in the area and this will be her go-to Thai/Sushi place. We were impressed. I will absolutely be returning when I am in the area. Very casual, so appropriate for a casual date or for dining with family/friends. Great outstanding service every time we come in. This is our go restaurant for us. Staff is very friendly and customer oriented.

I stopped in for lunch and I was greeted by a super nice blonde that seems to really enjoy her job. Unfortunately I can't say all the staff members were as nice and friendly as her. I had the bento box chicken katsu special and let me just say it's totally worth it! For $11 you get plenty of food to keep you full for the rest of the day. Umami has quickly become my go-to sushi spot. Out of all of the sushi I've had in recent years- this has been the freshest! My usual rolls I've gotten from here are simple- spicy salmon, spicy tuna and tuna and avocado. I've gotten these each about 4 times from this place and every time I'm like DAMN that was so good. I have yet to try anything other than these rolls and their miso soup, but I am excited to venture out as these have all been fantastic. This will continue to be my regular spot. read more

Sorry, but no umami to be found at this restaurant. In fact, very little flavour at all. We started with veg tempura. Although the portions were decent, the batter wasn't tempura, but more like what you get on onion rings at your local diner. The accompanying dipping sauce had no taste. Adding soy sauce didn't really help. The portions of fish in the sashimi & nigiri sushis were small. Apparently two very thin slices of mackerel = sashimi. Similarly slender pieces of tuna & salmon adorned the nigiri. The Umami 2.0 was supposed to have pickled jalapeños, so we expected some zing in it. Alas, none to be found. Plus, the roll itself was small. While the tempura shrimp roll was larger, it too was devoid of taste. I'm not sure when it was supposedly fried, but the shrimp were totally cold & had an odd taste. The rest of the roll was your basic California. Speaking of California rolls, we also thought it was mediocre. There was nothing to encourage us to come back. read more

This is my first time ordering here , I ordered Take out. The brown rice is amazing but I wish it didn't have oil . I had also veggies sushi it was yummy there teriyaki sauce was delicious . I was impressed with the sushi during my first few visits but it tastes like it's from a different restaurant now. Fish hasn't tasted fresh nor flavorful and the rolls seem created without TLC. Avocado shouldn't be unripe and hard to chew. Krab shouldn't be chewy like a gummy bear. It's very rare that I don't finish my entire sushi order but it sadly came to that recently. I love Umami Sushi! The staff is super friendly and proud of the food they serve. The presentation is great and the sushi is fresh. My favorite roll is probably the Umami roll, followed by the Tiger roll. For appetizers, I love the sashimi app and the Dragon balls (no rice).
