Yum! I will be transparent right off the bat and say I'm not a sushi eater. I only go if my family or friends absolutely insist on it and I'm usually grumpy because my only option is teriyaki chicken. Umi had the typical teriyaki chicken as well as some other options like chicken Katsu! I decided to go with it and this was one of the best sushi place chicken katsus I've ever had. It was nice and crispy and came with a real good katsu sauce. I also tried a few pieces from the rolls my friends ordered and was surprised to find that I didn't absolutely hate them lol!! We decided to give it another go and went back again but during the day instead. The place during the day seems a little brighter and livelier than when the sun's down--maybe because of the dark color scheme. This time we got seated at the bar and got the same server. The same one that gave us an attitude before, but she seemed a little more chill during this visit. But she again appeared annoyed because we asked her to tell the chef for no mayo, no teriyaki sauce and no sesame seeds on our rolls. Anyway, their rice to fish ratio is still good, still not a lot of rice on each roll and portions are smaller so you don't get too full on a single roll. I wish a lot of sushi places would do the same. As for their menu, they have some unusual and different twists that make it more interesting to try than the usual dishes offered at other places. Best AYCE sushi in Reno!! And I've tried practically all the AYCE's here-- nobody beats Umi's rice to fish ratio!! Service is super quick (except they can get busy during peak lunchtime, but the servers are always doing their best so it's nice to be patient). My coworkers love to come for lunch, and we're a sizable group, and Umi always accommodates us. Inside is always clean; the space has really high ceilings with lots of natural light, feels chill. My favorite sushi to order is the salmon nigiri (sake) and Golden Gate roll. The baked rolls are unique and worth the wait! Honestly you can't go wrong with any of the sushi, it's always been perfectly proportioned and tasty. Don't forget to save room for dessert :) read more

Fantastic and Fresh! I especially enjoyed Umi Sushi for their perfectly portioned Nigiri and long rolls. The chefs really seem to sprinkle a little something extra into every order, from flavorful sauces to the house-made tempura. I really enjoyed the Mini Mouse, Donald Duck, Pokémon, and Mikey Mouse Nigiri. As for the Maki rolls, I recommend the sun flower. The presentation of every roll is so fun and they are as delicious as they look! Each Maki Roll we ordered were mini works of art. Decided to try a new All You Can Eat sushi place while visiting some friends in The area. Our friends recommended Umi as it is their new favorite place to get AYCE. The price was average and the fish all seemed fresh. The size of fish compared to the rice underneath for the nigiri was great. However the hand rolls are where it's at. They don't have them on the menu but you can just select a roll and write hand roll next to it. They were perfect size. The hubby got a bento box and it was HUGE! Definitely would have been a 5 star review but the service was pretty slow. The waiter was polite and friendly but we sat around waiting a bit and the restaurant was not that busy at all. Popped over to Umi Sushi with my parents for an AYCE lunch over the weekend. A good sushi joint that serves veggie/vegan sushi is hard to come by and I figured we'd give this place a try. We were seated instantly and given waters and a menu. Unfortunately, this place was out of paper menus so all ordering had to be done out loud, which got difficult once the restaurant got busy! A few of our orders got missed (water, miso, a roll), but I understand how difficult it can be being the sole server during a rush. Props to our server for being a champ! My parents and I decided to give all the rolls a try (kappa maki not pictured) and they were rolled tightly, didn't have too much rice, and were nice to look at. My favorite roll was the forest roll-- the jalapeño added a nice, fresh flavor that was unexpected but entirely delicious. I would come back to Umi Sushi for that roll alone! I'm also an enormous fan of miso soup, and I can say that Umi's miso was pretty good. There is a good variety of AYCE desserts and my mom opted for the fried banana ice cream dessert while my dad and I went for a classic mango mochi. First time we tried this place and I think we will go back. My husband has a shellfish allergy, and this place definitely seems to offer many more options that would be suitable for him. Many places are so heavy on the seafood that he's limited on what he can get. Also, I do like that the rolls are a bit of a smaller size, a lot less rice padding the roll meaning I can eat more! The flavor combinations are interesting. We also liked the free birthday sushi for our son. Any party of six or larger. If it's someone's birthday, gets you one free meal. The service was pretty good. We had to wait a bit for our drinks and for our sushi to arrive, but there was a large party of about 20 that came in just before us so that's understandable. Umi Sushi is a new restaurant that opened about 3 months ago and I've driven past this place a couple times but decided to finally try it out. The inside is nice and cozy with lots of seating. The bar is currently closed but I do prefer to sit at a table. My family and I got here roughly around 6:20 and it wasn't busy so we were seated very quickly. We started off with some of our usual appetizers. Miso soup, muscles, yakiton, and some calamari rings. All of them were delicious. The muscles were slightly cold but still yummy. The miso soup was hot and satisfying. There are a lot of rolls to choose from in their menu, which I was very impressed with. I also loved how their rolls weren't too big and had the perfect amount of rice. Some of my favorite rolls were the golden gate, Pisces, Gemini, and Umi. 4.5 STARS-- One of my new top AYCE sushi places in Reno! Easy parking, high ceilings, friendly staff, and no wait at lunch time! ($22.95 for lunch, $27.95 for dinner) Skip the apps and go straight to the sushi! They give you 2 menus (appetizers and sushi) We ordered the calamari and egg roll and they were just okay, nothing special (hence the - .5 stars). We will definitely skip them next time and order only sushi. SUSHI-- Very fresh and I don't think it's my imagination, but they are smaller bites than all the places I've been to, but the fish to rice ratio is AMAZING! A little teaspoon of rice, and a nice sized slice of sashimi over it. YUM! The rolls were also smaller than usual, but again, with the great filling to rice ratio. I appreciate the smaller size because that way we were able to try a more rolls without getting too full off of any single one, and there's less chance of waste! Everything we had was delicious, so you can't go wrong. It just depends on your preference. Some of our favorite maki rolls: MT King Cobra Baked Rolls: High Roller Cotton Candy Fried Roll: Black Manba (isn't it supposed to be Mamba? Or maybe there's a copyright issue there, Idk lol) I usually don't go for fried rolls, but I tried a piece and it was SO GOOD. Not overly fried like how most places do it, so you're not sickly full after consuming that entire roll of mostly carbs and oil. We finished off with the chocolate mochi like we do at every other AYCE sushi place, and it was great as usual. I must say umi sushi easily on my top three places for AYCE sushi in Northern Nevada. Our family came in mid afternoon on a Saturday and were seated right away. Service was excellent, and to top it off all fish, rolls and appetizers we ordered for lunch was excellent. Kuddos to all the chef and team at umi sushi. We had cajun salmon, gravlax, smoked salmon, and sake all of which was such a delight and wonderful to try the different types of salmon. The rice was sweet and flavorful which is really key to a good sushi. Both uzura and ikura was very good. Ikura was marinated in a sauce which added a depth to the flavor. Miso soup, seaweed salad, vegetable tempura and mussels were served and cooked well. Very delicious. I would highly recommend umi sushi, and our family can't wait to go back. read more

This place just opened. This place looks really clean and very spacious. The bar is currently closed, and I'm not sure if it's Covid-19 protocol. Now for the food. We had an order of the Donald Duck. The salmon was very fresh, and the quality of the fish was really good. We had an order of Unagi. The Unagi was perfect. Each slice had a little fat and it made it extra tasty. That's what we had for the Nigiri. Best of all, the chefs put a little portion of rice. This made it nice, so you're able to enjoy the food. Time for the long rolls. We ordered the Umi long roll. This is their special roll and it was really good. The cream cheese, cilantro, crab, and fresh fish went well together! There were two other rolls we ordered, but I forgot the names of them. Decided to give Umi Sushi a try for date night. First impressions of the restaurant itself was clean, the atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming. It was not super busy but not quite dead either. I was surprised how quickly we got seated. Andrea, our hostess/ waitress sat us down, and took our drink order. She was so nice and attentive throughout our dinner. We started off with some appetizers, Gyoza (potstickers) , Calamari rings, Mussels and Yakiton. Gyoza were on the softer less crunchy side but delicious nonetheless, Calamari rings were pretty big in size and cooked perfectly. Mussels were delicious, although personally I prefer them with way more filling and a little bit on the spicier side. Yakiton was scrumptious, however they were on the more watery side and would prefer them a bit more creamy. Now let's get to the sushi, the rolls themselves are on the smaller size, Although I appreciate not being overwhelmed with too much rice. All the rolls we had were very delicious and we enjoyed the unique sushi roll names. My fiance and I both had a great time and would recommend everyone give it a try. read more

Unlike almost all other sushi joints, Umi does not over supply their dishes with rice. They use just the right amount. Nigri are supposed to be bite sized, and at Umi, they are. No big mouth gagging glop of rice under the fish. Also, they have butter fish, which I have not found elsewhere. Their long rolls are also excellent. My favorite is Golden Gate. But I also really like some of the others. All you can eat lunch is a tiny bit pricy at 26.95, but when I have 3 orders each of salmon, yellow tail, and butter fish nigiri plus 3 long rolls, I certainly get my money's worth!. The ambiance is a little industrial--and if the place is crowded, very noisy, but they try by decorating for holidays. Also, service is usually excellent, but if they are crowded, it can be a bit slow and sometimes forgetful. I have to say that I really love this place--only place I'll go for sushi. read more
