Sad to see what was once THE place to get fajitas fall so far from the mark. Ordered my usual go-to steak fajitas and they were like chewing leather. It was a chore to finish them. And the portion size seemed to have shrunk. What always seemed generous before now seemed stingy. My guess is a 8oz to 6oz drop. Worse, service was lackluster. When both your margarita and water glass are empty, you'd think that would be a cue to ask if you would like another. But no. Our waiter was friendly. Just not attentive. Wasn't my choice, I was joining a friend whose friend loves this place. The hostess in the parking lot barely wanted to let me in, was asking which party I am with, then walked with me to see if I really have them in there. Felt like a felon. You are coming out to have a good time and I did not feel like that, she had a weird vibe. I sat down, chatting with my friends, about 7 minutes passed by, no Hy, no server no drink ... I asked my peeps what's going on, well, I have learnt that one of them was waiting for a cocktail for 15 min. That's all I needed to know. I walked back in to the bar, asked the lovely funny bartender bout my girl's drink plus ask one for myself as well. When I got back the server decided to show up, I informed him that I already took care of the drinks, with an attitude he left. Another nice gentleman showed up with both of our drinks in about 2 minutes. We were hanging out, chit chatting, they ordered the food before I got there and it came about half an hour after I've arrived. Way too long in my opinion to wait for food. And I wasn't impressed at all. I didn't like the atmosphere, out server was terrible, like really, disorganized, jumping from one table to another seeming like he has no clue what's going on. Went in on a Sunday night. Not very busy at all. We got seated right away. We ordered drinks and appetizers. It took a few minutes on the drinks. No biggie it was drinks from the bar. Ordered our food, the food runner had an attitude with us asking her to take something's off the table to make room for fajitas for 2 and a fajita plate for 1. After everything was done, we got our check and I scanned my receipt into a points app. Gave the waitress my card and when they came back I was charged an extra $5.20. I know it's not much but with this economy every penny counts. When she went to talk to the manager I was charged and additional $10.38 cents. I was told they gave me the wrong ticket. How when everything on my ticket was correct. I had to show her and the manager the ticket I took a picture of. After about 10 minutes of back and forth the manager got it fixed. My card was swiped for the wrong table. I ended up paying for the table next to me instead of mine. The food is not bad, the waitress was nice, the food runner and the ticket is what's pulling my stars down. I doubt I will be back to this location again. But if I do chose to come back I will have cash and take a photo of my check. FYI if you ordered a "virgin" michelada be prepared to pay for the beer price instead of the soda water $6.50 for the "Bloody Mary mix" and soda water is outrages for the small cup they brought. read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to enjoy a nice dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant, the host at the stand was annoyed that we were there and gave us attitude. Then it took 15 min for our server to arrive at our table. She (Stormi) was polite at first....but she was way more worried about her side work than her customers. She took my glass and was going to fill up my drink, but she forgot and didn't bring it back until half way through our meal. When she arrived at the table she did not ask if our meal was well or if we needed anything. We ate our meal, and not once did she come by to ask if we needed anything or if the food tasted well. I know what you're thinking, she had other tables....but she did not, we were her only table. As soon as she noticed we were done, she brought the ticket over and went here's the ticket. Yet again not asking if we needed anything or if our meal was well. The manager...or what I'm assuming is the manager did not come by and see if we needed anything and seemed annoyed that customers were in the building. All of the servers were hiding in the back and seemed annoyed to be at work. The overall ambiance was very dull and hostile. I arrived for a late lunch not knowing what to expect since I'm not from Texas and they don't have an Uncle Julio's where I live. We we're greeted by a friendly staff and that level of service continued throughout the dining experience including the management staff preparing for Friday happy hour with a meeting. I ordered off the lunch menu which is available until 4pm. I chose the Nachos with pulled chicken but fajita chicken was an available and tempting choice. We we're greeted with a bowl of chips and 2 salsa by our waitress. We also ordered a queso dish loaded with chunks of fajita beef and fresh pico de gallo. Delicious but pricy at $11.99. Our food came out quickly from the claimed scratch kitchen. I was surprised to find my nachos we're not a bed of heaping tortilla chips topped with all the fixings. Instead I received a half dozen mini tostada's individually dressed with beans, chicken and cheese and surrounding a pile of lettuce, guac and sour cream in the center of the plate. They were delicious, don't get me wrong....just not my interpretation of nachos where I'm from. Maybe this is a Tex Mex thing??? because I have heard of places doing this. Overall good experience that will bring me back if I'm ever around. They do this thing I want to try which is an ultimate craft cocktail margarita prepared with muttled berries, lime juice, tequila and frozen with sangria and liquid nitrogen. Wow!!! Hello, DO NOT GO HERE! I was in a party of 7, one of my family members did not even get their food. The food was lukewarm, after waiting a long time, and when I spoke to the manager he didn't seem like he cared about our complaint just kept making excuses. The waiter was horrible. This restaurant came recommended by a co-worker as one of the best Mexican food in Dallas. They do a great job at social distancing. There is a check in station outside and once a table is ready they'll walk you in and seat you. The food was really good!! We enjoyed the carne Asada, combo fajita filet/chicken entree and the steak & cheese enchilada plate. All really flavorful and tasty!! Chips w/warm salsa....delicious! However, the service was not very good. We waited at least 10mins before someone came over and asked if we had been helped. They took our drink order and got us chips. It took a while before our drinks came out, but still no waiter for us to make our order. Finally drinks came after about 15mins. So now a total of 25 mins before we even ordered our dinner. A waiter finally came over and took our order. Thank goodness the food was really good or I would have been more upset. After meals came it seemed like the waiter had forgotten about us. We were sitting in the back corner near the entrance to the restrooms so maybe that's why?? we had flag someone down to just ask for our check. I would have definitely given a better score if service was better because the food was really good. A fading Star We went to Uncle J's in early Janaury and what a surpise. The Mexican Restaurant we loved is not there. In its place is an aging, run down, dirty place. They have raised prices, cut food quality and are not taking care of business. I've seen this time and time again-try and cut food quality and portions, raise prices and hope you can survive. Is huge and open and bright and welcoming. Everything is clean and the server was great. Now, being in the DFW area, I had to have a "swirl" and I had to have fresh guacamole. We got chips and salsa to start with but honestly they stole the show for me. I was so hungry that I ate two of the sides of salsa. And I didn't need many chips too devour the salsa, it was TOO good. My friend and I each got the Veggie Fajitas. I got mine with no dairy since I'm vegan. Wow. Wow. Wow. Flavor!!!!!! Everything tasted FRESH. It tasted full of flavor. I could taste the heat and spice in the rice, the salsa, the fajita veggies, I literally stuffed myself eating the entire plate of veggies. But I was so full I couldn't fit in the side of black beans I got with them. Three soft flour fajita shells and all those veggies stuffed my hungry belly. Now for the swirl - mmmmm. Maybe three days of sweating like crazy and 6 days of not having any drinks prior is what caused the "whoa" affect after a few sips. Wow my swirl was STRONG!!! But oh it was delicious. Solid bite to eat but nothing special. Got the Tex-Mex Combination Dinner which was very appetizing and filling. A little more authentic compared to your typical Tex-Mex restaurants. We went around lunch time and it was a quick process to get in and seated. The restaurant starts off with legit tequila jars of water and small little Mexican cups which was a nice touch. However, when in a party of 4, (we all got water) the water ran out pretty quick and had to constantly ask for water. All in all, a pretty cool experience with solid food but nothing over the top. And, get this... we were charged an extra $1 for his rice and beans. The place was empty. And, it's no wonder. The service was horrible, the food is totally overpriced. I've given Uncle Julio's my last chance. I'll never be back and don't recommend Uncle Julio's to anyone. Way too many other good choices (at good values) in the area. And it should be noted... the men's restroom is absolutely filthy. When you walk out, the bottom of your shoes are covered with urine. You can hear your feet sticking to the floor as you walk. There is nothing more disgusting than a dirty restroom in a restaurant. Valet parking is horribly inconvenient and not necessary. The majority of the parking lot was empty but most of it was reserved for valet. Management - please don't leave your remarks on my review stating that you'll forward my comments to your teams to be reviewed. Super Disappointing Takeout Experience x 2. The first time I ordered here I went to pick up my order. I waited 25 minutes and after 2 phone calls inside, the woman working takeout said she did not have my order and asked ME TO COME INSIDE and she'd show me there's no order. I was thinking what would be the point of that especially given is was pouring down rain and the whole reason I wanted curbside was to avoid the going in. I then hear her talking to someone else and she says "oh, I guess they had your order under mel instead of Melissa." I was like really, it took her 25 minutes to figure that out. I waited another 5 minutes, she still doesn't come out and I had to trek inside in the rain. I thought I'll never order pickup again but decided to give them one more chance with delivery. Last night I ordered with DoorDash. We ordered chicken fajitas, chicken tortilla soup and a chips and queso. 1) the fajitas were missing the condiments (guacamole, pico, etc) AND no tortillas 2) the chicken tortilla soup had NO broth. They only brought a bowl of what went in the soup, no actual broth to make soup with 3) a cup of plain queso was over $9 and there was one tiny bag of chips I would never ever recommend this place for takeout or order here again. This has absolutely been the worst service I've ever received while dining out hands down. My husband and I decided to stop here to have dinner. There was an hour wait in the dining room so we decided to eat at the bar. The first guy was great but right after our food was delivered here disappeared and so did the service. There were literally 3 people working behind the bar and not on me of those guys addressed us the entire time. I literally had to wave my arms to get the bartenders attention to request a to-go box and tab. He dropped a dingy styrofoam box and the bill on the bar. I flagged him again to request a more environmental friendly plastic box. I literally fell off the stool when the gentleman indicated those were only fit to go customers. Appalled that $72 and Uncle Julio's s felt we were not worthy of a plastic to-go box? I used my infamous flash down to ask was waitress if she would assist us in getting an updated to-go-box and she did just that. We decided to leave her a cash tip and left the gentleman a written tip (see attached). Don't think I'll be frequenting them anytime soon. read more

Went here on wife's choice. The place is very nice on the inside and the service is superb. That is what you are paying for. The food was subpar for a high price. My family and I had the Americano Taco Platters. They were okay, but there are some fast foods out here that make better. I am just saying as a comparison. Their tortilla chips are airy and crispy. The salsa and queso are okay. We also had the habanero bacon wrapped shrimp from the appetizer menu and they were very good. They were a smoky, singed well appetizer with just a bit of a late kick. My boss took a few of us here for our first night in Dallas on a business trip. They have a couple of cool "hooks" but that was about it. The worst part of the dinner was our server. I wish I would have gotten her name, she was a tall slender African American woman. She had a very fake pleasant personality (and I'm a car salesman!) that finished with a note of IDGAF and would disappear for twenty or more minutes at a time and would blame the service experience, which is ultimately her responsibility to the face of the customer, in anyone but her. The manager came by and asked us how we were and for one second after that things were prompt but quickly changed and got worse than before. The make at your table guac looks cool. The salsa varies and I wasn't a fan but others were. After my dinner arrived messed up, by the time it came back I'd lost my appetite. The atmosphere is kinda cool minus the peeling ceiling. Later this month a client of mine ordered take out from there for lunch. The chicken in the fajitas was kinda hard and tough and the salsa was worse....BUT the queso was kinda great. First time here and the place was about 3/4 empty still had to wait 45mins to get seated. We finally out to our table waitress explained to us she had a big table aside from us. At this point the place is fairly empty and it still took about an hr to get our food out. So, my sweetheart and I stopped by for a meal, and a few drinks. We placed an order for a Guadalajara, and in lieu of the steak fajitas, we opted for filet mignon. When we received our plate, the filet mignon was undercooked, to which we alerted our waiter. He proceeded to report it to the manager on duty for the evening, who came over to address the issue, and he, (I failed to get his name), pulled the meat off our plate, put it on an extra plate, took it back to the kitchen to place it back on the grill. He then brought it back, but we didn't eat it. In my opinion, that particular act violated health, and safety codes! Needless to say, we will NEVER eat here again...EVER! I thought for certain the meal would've been prepared over, or perhaps offered a different choice for an entree, and since we didn't want to appear to cause a scene, we paid the tab, and left with no plans of returning to this location, or possibly any other locations in the future. Pretty good food! This place prides themselves in making all their dishes from scratch. I don't think you can go wrong with Uncle Julio's. The food is good and fresh, the drinks are good and the environment is fun! The service is pretty decent too. The crowd is diverse as well. You see people of all colors, ages etc. Finally, the price range is super reasonable for the large portions. It's not super quiet, so not very romantic per se. I would recommend this place for a casual outing with friends, a casual date or even lunch with coworkers. I would return here for lunch! read more

Use to be one of my favorite spot pre pandemic but since much has changed as far as the staff and the menu goes. Use to be a huge fan of the Diablo Camarones Shrimp but as of late something has been off with the seasoning and also I've had them numerous times undercooked post pandemic. I don't know if it's the new chef or what but hasn't done much for me lately. Also this place use to have some of the best bar tenders in the uptown area who made the best margaritas on the rocks but these days not so much unless Myra is working (She's Great). Although my experience was a year ago, I still remember my #DallasPride brunch a memorable one. I was invited by my distance colleagues to march at the Parade. We met at Uncle Julio's to eat first. Since it was on the parade staging route, this place was packed. I arrived 2 hours prior to said time knowing it would be impossible to get in, plus I got a parking spot. I led a group of coworkers driving from Houston to meet at the bar an hour before brunch, for a excursion briefing. I ordered coffee and nachos. Then, I was called away to help with the float. I came back few minutes later, my food was gone. My coworker paid for it but bartender took them away. Okay, whatever. It's time for brunch anyway. I didn't know if the brunch was specifically prepared to be extraordinarily huge. They piled shrimps with ribs and steaks on iron griddle. The food tasted sweeter than the Mexican food I usually eat. But, hey, I was starving and judgment comes later. I wasn't pleased with the restaurant policy on guests arrived late. A couple of coworkers came after the host had paid for the food. They couldn't eat what was prepared for the party. So I helped them order something from the menu. However, food came cold. She was not happy but we didn't have time to argue. If I got a chance to come back to Uncle Julio's, I want some of those meats on my parrilla. read more
