I am so iffy about this place. The first time I came back in December, the food was amazing and I couldn't wait to come back, however the next time I came, the food was very gross. My girlfriend and I ordered enchiladas which were extremely rubbery and someone else at the table ordered medium for their $40 steak and it was bordering rare and also very rubbery. When I tried their dish, I had to spit it out because it was so hard to chew. The rice was also very, very dry. On the other hand, the place has great ambience, the table set-up looks great, the lighting gives nice ambiance, and it's very big. The service was great and when my girlfriend sent back their plate, the manager came and made sure we were satisfied in the end by comping the dish and even made sure we didn't want the enchilada remade to-go before we left. The cheese dip was so running, had to wait till it became cool to dip with a chip. First time there since the decor change..hated it. This is the location I have gone to for over 30 years and due to now living over 2 hrs away, my birthdays were the special occasion we came year after year for but next year we will be choosing a different restaurant. I have not been to uncle Julio's in a while. We were looking for something to eat on a Saturday evening. We ended up here at this uncle Julio's. I wasn't sure what to expect. The pictures on the menu looked good and the place had a lot of people in it. There is a lot of parking and the facility looks nice. I think it's off of 30 but we came the back way so not exactly sure but the parking lot was big and it looks like to be on its own. I ordered nachos. My son had tacos. My son's friend had enchiladas. The food presentation was OK. I told the server I wanted my beef cooked well done but when I got it, it was medium. So she sent it back and once I got it, it was cooked better. The only thing is they really didn't have much of a taste. The nachos are the lay flat kind that I like but there wasn't anything special about them. So I had a couple and then gave up. I thought the chips and the salsa tasted pretty good. It didn't appear that my son's friend liked his enchiladas. I remember him mentioning something about them being too wet. My son wasn't crazy about the tacos as well. So once we got home, we both were hungry and I had to warm something. The bill wasn't too much, but I do not think I would come here again based on the food that I tried. The restaurant was clean and again it was a nice size. Our server was fine, but I actually ordered some ice cream for my son and then she never came back. She said she thought that we were not getting the ice cream. I've been coming here since the 90s and it's still Amazing! I recently came back in town and I haven't been here in over 15 years. OFF MENU ITEM: They took the Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas off the menu, but they still offer them if you ask. There's still amazing... if you like sour cream. Typically, I always hit up Uncle Julio's when I'm in Texas, but this was a bummer of a visit. We were seated in a section without a specific staff member to oversee our table, so, by the time we got our meals, our food wasn't really warm, we had 3 different people waiting on us, but no one checking in on drink refills or anything else. There was no lunch rush as it was around 3 pm, so the place wasn't super busy. It seems like there was just poor communication. Apart from the fact that they tasted horrible, we are concerned about a food health safety issue. They may have made a million dollar investment, but our experience 2 nights ago was horrible. Our enchiladas came out cold TWICE. Even after bringing it to their attention, the food was only lukewarm. The manager comped or enchiladas, but we had to pay for the rest of the meal even though the entire night was ruined. The food has gone down hill. Service, pleasant but lacked a basic understanding of the menu. Asked about the Cauliflower bowl and came with just a bowl full of rice for the most part. Disappointing. Asked for a to go cup and received a toddler cup. Talked with a a manager and he said that's all they had...then asked for the GM. My wife and I stopped in for a early Friday lunch while visiting town. The Carnitas soft corn tortilla taco plate was amazing. The pork was fabulously marinated and tasted superb, and the pico was uber-fresh. Great service, and the manager went out of his way to bring us different Salsa off menu (ranchero sauce). The service was pretty great. The ambiance? Eh. We were seated in the patio, which is nice enough I suppose, but the heaters were not working, so that was not great. The food is standard Mexican fare. But at a price higher than expected. I had the tortilla soup, which was good. A little lacking in the avocado. I also had the carne asada, which was good as well. That said, I can make the exact same thing for way cheaper and just as good. The prices are ridiculous. $36 for a carne asada and three tortillas? Wow. Likely not returning. Drinks could've used a bit more muscle to them. It was too heavy on the lime juice. Let the manager know and they not only appeared empathetic, he comped the El jefe and tried the Tres Amigos. That too was heavy lime flavored. The margarita mix was just off and over powered the alcohol sadly. The food was amazing!!! The vibe was busy but family friendly. It was sports games on, so the environment was right up my alley. Hope they get those drinks back up to par. Definitely would've been a five star had they been. But outside the drinks, it was a good time. If this location is busy, be prepared to wait for seating and you're server. Eating at Uncle Julio's in this day and age is MUCH more different than eating at my beloved Uncle Julio's from the past. And I mean everything. Gone are our favorite menu items and drinks. Gone are the correct items being delivered to our table. I've dined at this location for birthdays, wedding receptions, pre Stock Show for over 20+ years. This is a whole new restaurant. It wouldn't be bad if they charged for what they served. This used to be a premium Mexican texmex restaurant. After the new menu, the food here has become subpar and that is being generous. We used to escape to Uncle Julio's, Papasitos, etc to get fine texmex. I have news for you, management....Papa's is now destroying you on the food game. No if and buts. Not a bad spot for Tex-mex. The ability to make an online reservation was the real mvp. The older I get, the less I like to wait to be seated. The menu was a decent size. There were a few items for pescatarians and vegetarians and the margarita portion of the menu is just as big as the fajita side of the menu. The customer service wasn't exceptional, but it wasn't bad either. Don't expect anyone to go out of their way to be friendly, they are more focused on getting the job done and that's A-OK with me. While the parking lot is a good size, it does fill up fast and the cars start to line the street. read more

First time coming here and it was really good. We got seated quick and had someone being us waters and chips and salsa immediately. The salsa is a little watery but flavor is good. I had the swirl frozen margarita to drink which tasted great and the enchilada combo because I couldn't choose.
