Cute and fluffy cheesecake but just so you know its more like sponge cake in my opinion which is still really good. Whenever I go it is a quick and easy transaction with someone always ready to take your order. The only negative I would have to say (and this was the first time I have experienced this) is that the smell inside was very, very unpleasant. Once you put it in your mouth, just close your eyes and it's like you're in heaven... The girls and I saw this little place when we went to Daiso and Tamaya. It was not crowded when we went in to check it out, but there was a line when we left! They have Japanese fluffy cheesecakes and cheese tarts. They were out of cheese tarts (the guy said they sell out fast and early) but the girls and I got two cheesecakes. We tried the original which is light and fluffy - not too sweet or heavy. We also had the ube which was a little creamier inside and had a bit more flavor. I would order again for sure - especially if going to visit family. Perfect when you don't want heavy dessert. I liked the ube one better than the original. This might be closer to a 3.5 for me. I did come after 5pm though and there was no one inside. So the original flavor cheesecake and the cheese tarts were all sold out. Those were the 2 things I was really looking forward to and drove very out of the way for. I decided on getting ube flavor and strawberry. I was about to get matcha but the employee said strawberry was probably the 2nd best selling so why not try? I did enjoy the ube flavor as it was prominent. Strawberry wasnt bad but just okay imo. Not warm or jiggly really but was soft and light. I guess having tried the OG Uncle Rikuro in Japan really set the bar high for me. But it's still a nice treat with cute packaging perfect for gifts for those who have never tried before. The cakes are also wrapped in a cloth like paper I'm assuming to help prevent sticking to the box? But it slightly stuck to my ube one. Cheesecakes we're only $11 each so affordable. I was heading to Daiso, but saw "Uncle Tetsu" in the same plaza. I decided to go have a look. Their menu show different flavors, such as original, ube, and oreo. They have limited flavors today, but will have more in the coming days. They definitely have a lot of the original flavor, and luckily that's what I wanted to order. While chatting with them, I found out that today is their grand opening! It seems not a lot of people knew about this store location just yet. The line was short. I'm not sure when the amazing Uncle Tetsu decided to open a location so much closer to me but now that I know about it, I'll be coming here all the time! Deliciously light, not overly sweet Japanese style cheesecakes. They are such a great treat and not overly indulgent. This location offers a lot of flavors but a not all of them are available all the time. Definitely call ahead if you're set on trying a new flavor. The original took 10 minutes to make when I went. Tetsu Oji-san needed a big fat pair of balls to open up right next to 85 Degrees. Are they going to be like Icarus and melt from flying too close to the sun, or are they going to turn the temperature up to 100? I had to find out. The first impression upon entering the store was the simple menu. They basically have two menu items in various flavors: whole fluffy cheesecakes and creamy cheese tarts. The cheesecakes couldn't be sliced or sold in smaller increments, which was surprising, considering I'd imagine a lot of people wouldn't necessarily want a whole cake. I'm pretty health conscious myself, and since the cashier seemed to really understand the menu well, I asked him for rough estimates of the calorie values for each item. He appeared to know the ingredients and responded with 1000 calories for the cake, and 300-400 calories for the tarts. Now, I've tried the free sample of a little cube of a cake on the counter, plus the original and ube flavored cheese tarts that I bought. I'm pretty confident that considering the sweetness of these items and their large size (e.g. the tarts were at least somewhat bigger than 85 Degree tarts) that I would add at least 30% to the calories: Let's say 1300 for the cake and 450-500 for the tarts and call it a day? Probably not something to buy every day, but I'm a fan of the flavor. Perhaps more so than the flavor, the texture. The tarts have a soft but crisp crust that's not at all oily or soggy like they are sometimes in bread stores. The cheese, or custard, is uniformly creamy, like a mini-luxurious (American) cheesecake. The "cheesecakes" on their menu are not like the ones we typically imagine, but more like a fluffy, loose pound cake that just falls apart in your mouth. I was going to eat half of a tart per day and save them for later, but I finished both of them in a sitting. Oops! I didn't expect to spend $10 when I walked in. They're sort of expensive, but not a bad value at all, considering their relative size and enjoyable taste. I mean the tarts are about the size and price of Crumbl cookies (and I'd argue more refined and not so cloying), and you're not going to escape $10 for a frozen cheesecake at the supermarket. Still, I wish they sell half items, but I guess there's a time and place for Uncle Tetsu, probably complementary to 85 Degrees next door. If want a lot of variety with mixed degrees of freshness, go to 85, but if you know exactly what you want, and what you want are high quality and fresh Japanese cheesecakes and cheese/custard tarts, then give Uncle Tetsu a try. read more

I went in there to get an Uncle Tetsu original cheesecake yesterday, after I paid for it by credit card, I decided to get another one, but I was told by the cashier I can't use back the same credit card to pay but need to use another credit card. I only have one card with me, so I said I will pay the other cake with cash, they said they don't accept cash. I've only tried the coconut pandan cheesecake, and when I went in the evening there was no one else in the shop, probably because it was near closing. Service was efficient - the cheesecakes were boxed and ready to go. What I like is the cheesecake is not too sweet and they don't really seem to be very creamy. Not as busy as Arcadia. But the cheesecake is just as good. We got a chocolate to give to a friend and a pandan for ourselves.
