The Oreo was good, very similar to the original with a hint of Oreo. Nothing to overpowering and not so sweet. Pandan and coconut was delicious! Cane here awhile ago to get some cheesecake. The plaza was super busy so it was a bit difficult to find parking on a Saturday afternoon. Located right next to 85 bakery. I got the matcha and the original. My favorite will always be the original just because it is slightly denser than the other cakes. As a person who does not like traditional cheesecake, I was hesitant to try it but Uncle Tetsu is one of my favorite desserts of all time! Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake is light, fluffy, moist, and slightly sweet- the perfect dessert for asian families (or anyone really). For $13, you will get the perfect sized cake for about 8 people and there will not be any leftovers because it IS THAT GOOD. We brought this as a desert multiple times during the holiday season to dinner parties and it was a crowd pleaser! Every time we brought this dessert to someone, they always said they would buy it again. This location had chocolate as a seasonal flavor which was like a fluffy mouse/chiffon cake. I really wish the chocolate was one of their flavors in their regular rotation. The store itself is very clean and everything seems to have a space. I also appreciate that they have samples to try most times that I go in, especially of flavors that I am a little more skeptical of buying myself such as pandan coconut, strawberry, and pumpkin spice. However, it makes me very sad that many people quickly walk into the store and grab a sample just to leave 2 seconds later. I just hope that this doesn't stop this location from providing samples in the future. Uncle Tetsu has been a hit with all the people that I have shared it with this holiday season and will be one of my go to desserts for future dinner parties! I'm glad to see that Uncle Tetsu is finally closer to home (and expanding to more locations!). I've had their og original cheesecake which is definitely my favorite. For those who haven't had it, they're cheesecake is basically a japanese souffle cheesecake. Unlike american cheesecakes, these are very fluffy due to egg whites which they mix into the batter and bake on a low heat. Too much heat or removing it from heat right away can make the souffle collapse on itself. I can actually make this dessert - and it's a lot of work and time consuming - so it's nice to be able to just buy it if you're lazy like me! The quality as I've experienced is pretty top notch and consistent. I've tried their flavored cheesecakes as well and they're ok - but og is definitely my favorite. As of this review it seems that they are now offering seasonal flavors. I had the chance to try the one they're offering as of this review - pandan coconut - and it was actually quite good. You could taste the pandan and the coconut and it isn't too sweet. We also tried the ube cheese tarts. They're also pretty good but it's not a very strong ube flavor if that's what you're looking for. Very subtle ube end note, more of a creamy (but not too creamy) tart cheese flavor. Cheesetella vs Uncle Tetsu I like 'em both! But of course, I will always prefer to go to Cheesetella 'coz I won't ever drive 40 miles again just to go to Uncle Tetsu. The Ube and the Plain cheesecakes taste just about the same between the two places. These were so moist, fluffy, cloud and soufflé-like kinda cakes, with just a hint of sweetness. I didn't get to try the Strawberry, Oreo, or Chocolate as they sold out at the time I went. So, the winner in this category is the Coffee Cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu. -TELLA's: One thing that Cheesetella have that Uncle Tetsu don't have are their Cheesetella, Creamtella, and Matchatella which are really awesome! A family favorite of ours. So, hooray for Cheesetella for coming up with this concept. However, Uncle Tetsu have Burnt Basque cakes which, from what I was told, is similar to the traditional American cheesecakes. I haven't tried it, so I can't speak about how good or bad it is. Both places have a walk-up counter style, meant only for pick-ups and to-go orders. Service is okay. Nothing special as you literally just walk-up, tell 'em what you want, they bag your cakes, and accept your payment. That is the extent of the service. Parking wasn't an issue at Uncle Tetsu, but this was on a Sunday late afternoon. So, I'm not exactly sure how busy the area is during peak hours as it was my first time at this location. I'm honestly so happy they opened one closer! In the past, I would usually go to the Arcadia location, but this shop is so cute! They have the same menu, so nothing different in terms of items. I think one of my favorite things about Uncle Tetsu is that it is so consistent. It's not overly heavy or sweet and it's the perfect fluffy cheesecake. I usually order their original cheesecake because it's the best in my opinion. My family hates everything cheese and this is the only way they tolerate it. I've had their ube before too and the flavor is a bit subtle, so I just opt for the original. They change up the branding on the cheesecake depending on the season/holiday, so my picture shows a very cute Santa. (And yes, I'm writing my review 2 months later, haha). We tried the cheese tarts recently and I loved it. Definitely more heavy than the cheesecake, but that's to be expected. It was so creamy and I believe they brush it with some fruit jam because there is some tartness to it too. I tried Uncle Tetsu in Arcadia and happy to see one opened nearby. They have all the cheesecake flavors boxed up and ready to sell by noon. They have alot more flavors now than when grand opening. I got the matcha cheesecake but flavor is very mild. Price has gone up from $8 something to $11 something and size still same. The cheesecake gets boring to eat after a while. It is not as sweet as Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. It is softer but I prefer Little Swan's Bakery souffle cheesecake instead. I also tried their coffee and original cheesecake. Both are ok. I have to complain how poor quality the box is. If you reseal it, the lid is not tight. Soon the lid doesn't even lock in, and I have to tape it to seal it. They need to improve on the packaging to preserve the freshness of the cake. I bought additional cheesecake here and same problem with the cheap box quality and becomes frustrasting to tape it all time to preserve the freshness in fridge to keep out food odor from other food. read more

Paid a visit on 1/30 around 7pm and received excellent customer service. Propz to the young male Asian worker who answered all my questions. A light and fluffy Japanese cheesecake beats any of the breads and desserts from 85. I purchased two cheesecakes: original and ube. I can't comment on the ube one since I gifted it, but the original was just as perfect as the ones at the Arcadia location. Simply heaven and clouds! Not too sweet or overly rich like American cheesecakes. If you're looking for a particular flavor, note that when I went about an hour and a half prior to closing, they had around 2-3 left of each flavor. First time trying Sesame flavor and loved it. You can taste the granules and the sesame flavor pops, but doesn't overwhelm. I checked the website after and not sure if this store carries the full offering YMMV. It has been years since I had my first Uncle Tetsu cheesecake in Arcadia and I'm thrilled they're in Hacienda Heights. I've also learned they do pop-up partnerships with local bakeries, cafes, and restaurants. With gas pushing $6/gal it definitely helps to not have to trek more than you need to satisfy cravings This would have been a 5 star rating, but knocked off 1/2 star for no discounted cracked/split cakes offered at this location. They didn't even know what I was referring to, yet this is common practice at the Arcadia store. Another 1/2 star deducted bc the cloth stuck to the cake and tore at the top when I went to open it, so essentially I paid full price for an imperfect cake. After a filling business lunch nearby, we decided to stop by Uncle Tetsu to pick up some desserts for our next business meeting in the afternoon. This location is nestled in a smaller plaza when you start to go up the hill on Azusa and Colima. To our surprise it wasn't busy at the time we arrive (1:40pm). I believe the cashier was Jacqueline, and she was very friendly and a delight to interact with. I personally got the Strawberry and Oreo cheesecakes for my household. You have to try Japanese cheesecake to understand the texture and how they taste. The strawberry one had a nice hint of strawberries in it, which was nice. The ube taste was very subtle (almost nonexistent) but the actual cheesecake flavor came through. It's not too sweet, just sweet enough or mildly sweet which I enjoyed. The texture is so soft, airy, and moist just the way I like! As a snack I would eat about 1/4 or 1/3 of the cheesecake by myself. If you have leftovers keep it in the box in a cool, dry place and not in your refrigerator. After two days, the cake's texture stayed the same. My mom and I came to visit this store and we were supposed to pay separately for our orders, however my mom only had cash and we were informed that they don't take cash so we decided to pay together using my card. So we have to add some more cakes to the order. As we received our orders we noticed that we are missing 1 cake we informed the staff that we are missing a cake. She then checked our receipt and found out that there is a cake missing. Instead of being apologetic she told us that "we should order all the cakes that we need all at once and not add while she was finalizing the transactions!" . It was surprising how she responded. I went to try this place cause I drive by it all the time and see so many people going in, I was greeted by the staff and Joe ended up helping me out, I wasn't sure what to try as it was my first time and he was so sweet and helpful, I ended up getting the oreo burntbasque cheesecake he suggested as well as some cheestarts.
