Solid pizza and lots of different slices to choose from. For as long as I have worked nearby, the Underground Pizza has been in the shadow of the line for Leo's Bagels right next door. Undoubtedly, Leo's has been the king of the small block for years, but by no means overlook Underground Pizza. I had probably walked by Underground Pizza hundreds of times, but neglected it each time in search of something "better" to eat for lunch. After an unsuccessful trip to one of the food carts at Hanover Square, I FINALLY decided to give them a shot. I knew they had a great variety of pizzas, so it was of no shock to me when I walked in and saw all of the different pies laid out. You name it and they have it - regular, pepperoni, buffalo chicken, spinach, white cheese, mushroom, grandma regular, grandma pepperoni, etc. In my first trip, I decided to go simple and went with a regular and pepperoni heated up. To summarize, the slices were good. Unfortunately, they weren't hot anymore by the time I had reached my cubicle or my lunch time "dining room". However, I am glad to report that the slices were perfect and really exactly the way I love my New York pizza slices. The slices were thin, but not extremely thin. With each bite and crunch, you knew there was crust there. There was ample cheese on each slice and just enough oil to wet your beak. I disdain when pizza slices have so much oil they can run an automobile and the amount of oil on the pizza here was just enough to keep the cheese moist. For the pepperoni slice, there was a fair number of pepperonis on it and, like many pizzerias these days, they decided to use the roni cups, which I absolutely love. Those little roni cups are always full of flavor and truly one of the great inventions for pizza. The pricing of the slices are also on par with the standards for today and in fact slightly less expensive than even some pizzerias in the outer boroughs, which is shocking. With the reasonable prices and solid slices, it's definitely one of the best pizzerias to get a normal New York slice in the FiDi. read more

Disorganized set up at the ordering counter especially with a narrow walkway. There is a small dining area upstairs. If you pay with cash, you get a slightly reduced price. Short Review: underground pizza is an average pizza place around the FiDi area. As the overwhelming majority of quality pizza shops around here charge an arm and a leg (e.g. Harry's Italian or Adrienne's) this is a nice alternative when you're not interested in spending over $30 bucks for a plain pizza. The staff is nice and the delivery is wordy. Years back, my previous firm had issues when placing an order for a large delivery order. However, I would surely would recommend this place. read more

My go to pizza spot at work! The artichoke spinach in my favorite slice, the grandma comes second. The slices are sized just right and crispy, doesn't flop! Although it's pricey, $5 a slice, it is FiDi. Overall i've been here 10+ times and will keep coming! read more

We just got back home (to Portland OR) from NYC. We couldn't wait to get our hands on some real New York pizza, and boy did we find it!! We visited Underground Pizza 3 times on our visit. The owner was right behind the counter, working and talking with his crew and with us-very friendly and patient while we made our choices. The pizza was simple and SO delicious and SOOO HOT!!! Now we know why ya gotta fold that slice!! Warm and welcoming spot with some slightly faded '80's decor. We appreciated the garlic salt at the table with the usual parm, herbs, and chili flakes-a little bit of garlic salt took that pizza to another level! We will most certainly visit NYC again, and when we do we'll DEFINITELY come to Underground Pizza again. read more

My coworkers and I passed by here while we were in the area and looking for a pizza place! The employees were really nice, and we ordered several pizza slices (three of the regular cheese for $3 and a mozzarella for also about $3). They were heated up really quickly, so we only had to wait maybe a maximum of 3 minutes! Because I had mentioned I love pizzas with a lot of marinara sauce, one of the guys behind the counter also gave me a container full of marinara to go with my pizza slice. The cheese pizza itself was so, so crispy and the cheese melted off of it in little stringlets - it was a pretty fantastic pizza. There was a surprisingly great amount of seating despite the store being small, so it was nice to relax there after work! The service and food were awesome since the pizzas are still cheap relative to other foods nearby, but it didn't particularly amaze me enough to warrant five stars, especially at the price point. There were several pizzas at Underground selling for about $3-5 a slice, and I felt that it would be much more worth it selling at $1-2. Otherwise, I'd still probably visit occasionally if I'm in the area. read more

A tale of 2 slices. I stopped here for a couple of slices after some business at MTA Headquarters. The guy at the counter was very friendly, telling me that Coca-Cola was on strike after I asked for a small soda. He showed me a sign saying one of the unions walked out. He had soda cans but no fountain soda. I found that very interesting, as I have heard nothing about this. So I get my slices and soda can and go upstairs to eat. The first slice left much to be desired. It was mostly sauce. Not nearly enough cheese. I was thinking to myself, "This is sure a waste of $8.25." Then I had the second slice. The difference was day and night. This slice was quite good, with a decent amount of cheese and a proper amount of sauce. Far superior. I would try this place again and hope the bad slice was just one of those things that happen sometimes. read more

Overall if I could I would give this place a 4.5. The Pizza is absolutely delicious, it was my first time having a margarita pizza and that is what made me give them the 4.5. We also got pasta (I didn't take a picture), but it was also pretty good! Definitely above average pasta with good tasting sauce. Lastly the only complaint I had is that we got some of their garlic bread balls and they were a little stale so unfortunately we didn't get a fresh batch but overall the taste was good. FYI, the owner is really cool and chill very cool person to talk to and friendly, so if you're in the area I would definitely recommend a spot for a delicious quick slice. read more

Fresh mozzarella. Basil. Tomato slice. Perfect according to my daughter. My other darling got a sausage slice. She is developing her Yelpiness so she knew immediately to judge the meaty pizza on greasiness of which she said there was none! Pizza-Domino-Papa-Costco this place was not. I wanted veggies on mine but couldn't decide between a square spinach & artichoke slice or a baked eggplant & spinach slice. FUC it, I got both. Yes, the shadow of my a$$ weighs 15 pounds. Again an amazing crust. I would have thought all the moisture from the veggies would have softened it but nope! There was plenty of spinach/artichoke in each bite. I had Underground Pizza around 11:00am for breakfast and I must say it was a fine piece of pizza. As usual I had the corner Sicilian and this one was very cooked well. The crust was crispy and and not doughy or undercooked, the sauce had a nice balance of herbs and tomato and the cheese was melted on point. It's not the best pizza I've had, but it's very good. The location was tricky to find as it's on a small section of Hanover Square up West from the small sitting park (which is actually a nice place to sit and eat) If I were in the area again I'd go back for sure... though I'm not often in the financial district of NYC!
