    Underground Pizza

Wow! Some of the best New York City Pizza I've had is at Underground Pizza! I was hungry late Thursday evening around 8:00 after exploring the Financial District. Looking for nearby pizza places on Yelp after visiting the New York Stock Exchange, Underground Pizza was one of the first pizza places to pop up on the search! This restaurant is between Wall Street and Hanover Square. It opened in 1982! When I had entered the restaurant, it was close to closing! Luckily, the team at Underground Pizza still had slices available to purchase! There was dining seats available to eat at in the restaurant, but since it was close to closing, the area was getting cleaned for the next day. Current hours for the restaurant are Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 A.M - 8:30 P.M. The restaurant is closed on Monday and Sunday. I did decide to take my order to go back to the hotel. Their menu offers a wide range of pizzas (Personal, Sicilian, Cauliflower crust, Gluten Free, Vegan, Breakfast, soups, salads, calzones, pastas, heros, and so much more! Some of their single slices that were available at the time included the following Cheese Sicilian Pepperoni White Specialty Pizza Margherita Specialty Pizza Grandma Pizza Slice and more! I ended up purchasing just a cheese slice and a pepperoni slice. They provided plates, utensils, napkins in a to go bag! The food was still warm by the time I walked back to the hotel! When I took my first bite of the cheese pizza, it was so delicious! The marinara sauce used was some of the best I've had in awhile! It wasn't too sweet and had a lot of fresh herb ingredients! There was plenty of cheese on the pizza and the dough wasn't burnt. The Pepperoni was scrumptious too, but the cheese pizza was perfect! This is going to be one of my go to spots for pizza when I'm visiting New York City in the Financial District! The service here was fantastic! I had a chance to talk to a few team members while I was waiting for my order! If you're in the area and looking for some pizza, you should stop by Underground Pizza!

I feel like 3 stars is generous for that extremely greasy $6 slice of pepperoni. Like crazy greasy running all down my hands, not how I like to eat pizza. Flavor and crust ok, nice guy working, good location. Now I know.

Loved our visit to Underground Pizza while exploring the Financial District! The pizza was everything you want from a true New York slice...crispy crust, flavorful sauce, and perfectly melted cheese. Service was quick, friendly, and the whole place had that classic NYC pizza vibe. Definitely a spot we'll come back to next time we're in the city!

Delicious pizza!!! Great service!!! The garden salad was fresh and yum! Ben was the best

    Gluten Free Pizza

Gluten Free options!! The cauliflower pizza was delicious! I had pepperoni, sweet sausage and spinach. They were careful with my gluten allergy. Benny, the owner, made my pizza himself. My friends had gluten-full pizza and said it was excellent.

    Taco Pizza

Pizza tasted amazing! The owner was super friendly and kind to me and my family visiting from out of state. The overall cleanliness of the building was outstanding! If I lived here I would make sure to make it out to Underground Pizza every chance I got! Cannot get over how kind and friendly the owner is!

Great pizza here. Went around noon. They are very efficient so don't worry about the line. Ordered pepperoni and calabrese with person at counter. He put it in the over for a minute or so. Paid at counter. Super fast. Pizza has great flavor. Crust is awesome. Plenty of room in back for seating. Very clean. There is a restroom there also in back.

Authentic New York pizza experience, delicious slices. The owner Ben is the nicest guy, chatted us up and was appreciative that we thought the food looked good while strolling by and stopped in. Highly recco

    Pepperoni Pizza Sausage Pizza

First pizza place we went to in Fi-Di. Great location, vibes and the pizza is off the charts. Staff was nice and helpful. We got two pepperoni and a sausage and they were all amazing!

Grandma Pizza with Pepperoni - takeout

Ordered a Grandma Pizza with Pepperoni for takeout via Seamless. Even though it was a busy Friday evening, my pizza was ready when I got there at the time that had been estimated. Overall a solid pizza - great sauce and good size.

The crust was very thin, even for a NYC slice, and was alright, being a bit doughy at the top. I found the sauce too sweet for my liking, which almost reminded me of the rather terrible Little Italy chain. There was plenty of cheese, and it had a good pull, even if it looked a bit overcooked on top. I'm presuming the average ratings here and on other sites are because of their location and the fact that a lot of tourists who go here can't tell the difference between Joe's and a dollar slice. Perfectly decent slice on the level, if not worse than many slices in the city, as I disliked the sauce, while the rest was fine.

It happens to be an old cathedral which wowed my Son. When we arrived, we got seated immediately, which shocked me because it's always packed or has a line. Well maybe that's because the last time I attempted to go it was around holiday season and I couldn't get in lol. I ordered myself the spinach salad, which was massive OMG and could definitely be split amongst my party. And I also ordered for all of us to share a large pepperoni and pineapple pizza with their insanely delicious garlic rolls. I could eat the garlic rolls by itself. That's how good it is. They use fresh garlic, and not the powder which I appreciate. We all washed it down with ice water, and My Son had his Shirley Temple, and still had plenty to take back home. All in all we had a fantastic day and meal and I highly recommend and we look forward to coming back. Cheers.

A small heads-up: it's a bit tricky to find, so give yourself extra time. That said, the hidden, underground subway setting is part of the charm and makes the whole experience feel unique. Also, the different textures of the arugula, creaminess of the cheese, and the perfect crust will make it a memorable selection. For dessert, we shared the Buttermilk Panna Cotta. RIGHT BY THE DOOR. Do people not realize that putting a bar near a door on a freezing cold night benefits no one? Good thing I did not order alcohol or I would have froze to death. Seriously, none of the pies stood out in grand memory. All I can think of is, well, nothing. Nothing positive anyway. The names of the pies are funny, and the staff is friendly, but besides that, the quality of the food for lack of a better word, dare I say it, sucks. Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered their Chicken Parmesan. It was the Hail Mary pass that unfortunately did not connect. The cutlets are overcooked and dry, and the red sauce cooked with it has minimal tomato flavor. At least the spaghetti is cooked to a nice al dente and mellow garlic butter flavor, but like the sauce cooked in, it is also minimal. Part of the problem I feel is they are trying to go for a vibe that has a New York and modern feel. It does not work. Stay true to one or the other. Or at least look at other business models. I will use another pizzeria in Bushwick that exemplifies it perfectly. It is a hipster pizzeria in a hipster neighborhood. Through balance, it creates an ambiance both welcoming and warm without losing any of its Bushwick character. It does this by not beating you over the head with hipster vibes, just enough to let you know that you are in Bushwick. The band Franz Ferdinand was playing as I was wrapping up. Rather than take the pizza out, I suggest you throw it out. Overall pizza rating: 1.7/5

I have to say the centerpiece of the entire narrow room is the bar itself, and let me tell you, it is an absolute stunner of a contrast. Instead of the usual dark, sticky tavern wood, they've dropped in a long, continuous slab of pristine, elegantly smooth white stone. It glows under the soft lighting like a block of polished marble. There are no strobe lights and no obnoxious, skull-rattling bass in this joint. Instead, the room is wrapped in a blanket of incredibly chill music that matches the pulse of the room perfectly. It's just loud enough to drown out the noise in your own head, but quiet enough that you don't have to scream over the smooth white counter to be heard. People aren't here to be seen on TikTok; they're here to disappear for an hour or three. You slide into a chair, order a proper Old Fashioned from a bartender who doesn't rush the pour, and watch the ice melt against the amber-lit brick. It's the ultimate underground exhale--a perfect, narrow slice of peace in a city that never shuts up. Cheers!
