My group of 6 came and the food was delicious! This is a nice cozy spot for date-night and they have quite the selection of alcohol. I had the crispy chicken and it was really good. Not too salty and the crisp was nice. While I am not a fan of olives, I did try the fried olives and it was too strong. A nice balance of saltiness and crunch. The service was awesome! I can't tell if this is a very cool bar with ridiculously good food, or a very cool restaurant with ridiculously good drinks. Regardless, this place is "ridiculous" and the best way possible. Chicago sour is one of the greatest cocktails I've ever had, and they're sticky toffee pudding. The night was phenomenal. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the asparagus, carrot, burger, or Bronzino. I think we were just too excited and devoured the food. We had a guys night out the other week and decided to meet up at Union. Unfortunately one of friends couldn't make it until later so we weren't able to make it in for the Pappy tasting, but that will be done in m 2026 if I have anything to say about it. We came on a dreary day and the vibes kinda represented that with both patrons and staff. The drinks were delicious. I got the clarified cocktail which gave holiday vibes of sweet and spice filled. I couldn't come in without getting the burger. It was solid. I'd put it in my top 15 in the city. The potatoes that they are served with are also extraordinary. I've been back a few more times now. Service has gotten much better. Food is quite good and they have a big beer selection and let you taste everything. I don't like the fa t that they have a 5% service charge. I think service charges are bullshit and I'll remove a star from every place that puts a service charge on the tab. Walked in on a Saturday night and was able to snag a seat at the bar! Cute inside lots of lights! Sat at the bar and the bartender Nico's ( who I overheard was filling in for someone sick) topper toppled over, and wasted some drink in front of me. he didn't bother cleaning it up but did say sorry! I asked for a napkin so I could clean it myself! I also tried to start a conversation and he was not very warm or kind to me but did seem to like the other patrons around kind of made me sad tbh I love talking to the bartenders!! Had a wonderful time at Union during a weekend trip to Chicago! We got several vegetarian appetizers and entrees to share and they were all great! I know Union is known for their burger. I don't eat burgers, so I cannot help you here. BUT, I can say that everything else on the menu is DELICIOUS. The fried olives are a must-order. Their rotating daily specials are very unique. The pastas are soooo good, don't sleep on them!! Chicken with romesco sauce was excellent. And randomly, the Broccolini was my favorite dish of the whole night! We came here with a party of 7 for a birthday and were treated so well. Service was very fast. Had a good time catching up with friends at Union. First and foremost they have an extensive selection of beer from supper hoppy to tart sours and nonalcoholic options as well. Make a reservation in advanced as they get packed pretty quickly. Service was great and food was good but definitely smaller portions than we expected. I had the pasta for my entree which was delicious but it desperately needed to be a bigger portion or to have the option of adding a protein to it. One of my friends took me here and I was surprisingly shook. The place looks like a normal little pub from the outside, but I kid you not, some of the BEST beers AND the best Smashburger I've had in Chicago. I've tried everything form Au Cheval, Small Cheval, Billy Goat's, everything. And this STILL takes the #1 spot. The service was amazing, we sat at the bar and had the best service. The bartender was super attentive and kind and explained everything quickly. They had this "$20 Burger deal - 1 shot, 1 beer, and 1 smashburger" for $20 and it was DELICIOUS. The burger was cooked to perfection, crispy on the edges and perfectly tender and juicy on the inside. The bun was well toasted and the cheese melted perfectly. I also enjoyed the fact that the shot and beer was included and I could get it whenever I ready for it. I also had a glass of their Gamay wine and it was delicious. Union is fantastic, I went in with my brother around the time they opened for business so this is a very late review. I will give an updated review the next time I go. We made reservations the first time because we were unsure of how busy they'd be and were able to get in to sit in a prime position at the bar (I almost prefer the bar just about anywhere I go). Service was attentive and any questions we had were met with great answers. For food we ordered almost everything as far as appetizers and can't remember what or if we got any entrees. Most of the food was very good. They have a wide variety of whisky (some hard to get) and also have beers from local breweries. I'd say the interior is very nice, with nice furniture, cozy and great for a date or any occasion. Like I said I'll update when I go again. We made reservations ahead of time because it becomes super busy during dinner time and on weekends. It's a very small place, but did not feel super crammed which we appreciated. Great restaurant literally right off the California blue line stop. Went with a friend who said I had to try their broccolini and I laughed until I tried it. This has to be the best broccolini I've ever had! Was only able to catch appetizer and drinks but want to return to try the burger because it looks incredible. I did take a risk and try the pickle martini which was okay but more on the bread and butter pickle side and I was hoping for more of a dill taste. Just preference though it was still good. My first time at Union. It was out of this world. The food was fantastic. We had some appetizers first one was a Squash bake. I forgot the other one. Something I have never had before. Both were delicious. I had the burger and honestly I've never had a burger this good. It has a spread on it and a little differently presented. Absolutely the best burger I've ever had. It came with potatoes that were so wonderful, crispy little balls of potato. Loved it all. Service was wonderful from the moment we walked in until we left. So kind and caring and very professional staff. Ambiance was also great. The bar is beautiful and so many beers. Huge so many to choose from. We had the best time ever! Stopped by bc we were on a waitlist for a restaurant and it was quite literally a hidden gem. TLDR: if you like DIRTY PICKLE MARTINIS, this is your place. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and it's super chill on the weeknight and we had just missed the happy hour ($10 cocktails & 1/2 off beers M-F. 5-6pm). The menu is fairly limited, but everything we've ordered has been great and well-thought out. Cocktails, from classic to creative, are also very good. The ambiance is pretty meh, from plain decor to community seating at long tables unless you snag one of the few booths. The staff is efficient, but not warm and fuzzy, but that's OK. Reading the reviews it's clear to me that there is an issue with the consistency of service here, and my visit exemplified this issue. While sitting at the bar, my group was often left waiting for long times and we can see the bartenders socializing with some other customers, even taking a shot with one. Very weird, in my opinion unprofessional. The interior here is beautiful, the food items solid for a bar, and the drinks were great as well. I wonder if my group just happened to have an uncommon but unfortunately bad experience, because other reviews applaud the attentiveness of staff. I would say if you live in NE Chicago, this place is a great place to try, but probably not worth traveling to if you are not immediately local. read more

I took my BIL here for dinner. Their marg was solid!! It's within walking distance of their place which makes it super easy. We got the lamb meatballs and the hush puppies to start. Both were good but the lamd was better. The hush puppies are made with horseradish and that flavor kind of over powers everything else. Soft opening! The new sit-down addition to the same owners as Lardon--this is the adjacent dining room that they've refitted to make an evening menu with craft beer. Right off the California blue line stop, and it shares a kitchen with Lardon, who does the charcuterie and sandwiches with house cured meats. It turns out Lardon is going to cancel it's dinner hours so they can focus on Union. This new menu is a little bit wider (and pricier): the full plates go from Burger at $18 to Hanger Steak at $32... but with mid-sized and small sized plates available as well. Fried olives. Breaded--like fried pickles but better. Tiny little salty explosions. Bresaola Tartine. Recommended by our server--it's like sourdough toast points topped with cheese, aged pieces of meat, and garnished with blackberries and sage. It sounded amazing, and we loved it, but it felt like it was trying to do a lot, and if the beef was supposed to be the star, it was drowned out by the cheese and balsamic. Still tasty. Hanger steak. Juicy. The potatoes carried noticeable beef tallow flavor, and the steak was cooked on point. Chimichurri sauce was lost among other flavors. At points the gristle was a bit too much to chew and i had to pull out parts on my plate. For a "large / entree" I wish the platter was a bit more full-sized. There's enough steak, but more than 3 fingerling potatoes couldn't hurt. I realize i live my life in pubs more than high-end joints, where the higher the price point, the smaller the portion. Marketed as a craft beer bar, and while the list is well done and features a lot of local options, there's not much you wouldn't find at a variety of bars nearby. Service for us was a bit rough. Didn't get greeted (!) at our table for almost a full 15 minutes, and a drink didn't arrive until about 35 minutes in. This was a soft opening, and we know the staff were all working hard to get up to speed, so giving this a pass. In another case it would have counted as a bad experience. The vibe is brick and metal and wood and the design feels great. Doesn't have a standout feature though and it feels quite a bit like other similar spots. The inside noise level at points was so loud just from conversation it was hard to converse. We were seated at a hightop that had three couples at the same table and it felt fairly cramped, so this probably contributed. Not a "wow" factor for me on our first visit, but this is another welcome Logan Square spot and we'll try again. read more

We were lucky to get a last minute reservation for 2, but it was at a communal table. The communal tables are large and seats 3 couples with enough spacing between, so it doesn't feel invasive. Otherwise, the restaurant is on the smaller side and not as easy for large groups- reservations recommended. The food was delicious and great flavors. Spicy Gem Salad was fresh, and the "spices" added a nice crunch like crushed croutons. I was hesitant of the Smoke White Trout because I don't like the mushy texture of canned tuna, so I thought it would be similar- I was pleasantly surprised. The Cavatelli Alla Vodka was amazing and pasta perfectly cooked. For dessert, it had cheesecake in the name, but it was more of a panna cotta- light and not too sweet. My husband and I have been to Union 2 different times in less than a week, so we are both huge fans of this place. We made a last minute reservation on a Friday night and sat next to a nice couple at one of the communal tables. Most of the tables are communal, but there are also wooden booths and a bar space. We sat at the bar during our second visit. The staff members at Union are all really friendly and helpful. If you eat beef, you really need to try their burger at least once. I've had a lot of amazing burgers all over Chicago, but I would put the burger here on the same level as Owen and Engine, Table, Stick and Donkey, and Bad Apple. The burger was served with crispy potatoes and bone morrow aioli. I was too full to finish the whole burger at the restaurant, but the burger reheated perfectly the next day. The fried olives were a tasty appetizer. I loved the smoked white trout appetizer. The bread that came with this appetizer was fresh and soft. When I first read an article about this place, it seemed like this place was more beer focused. I expected to only find a handful of cocktails and wines available. There are actually quite a few cocktails and wine options. Most of the cocktails on the menu are whiskey based, but they carry a large selection of other spirits. I had pound cake with strawberries and bourbon whipped cream on my first visit (10/10) and chocolate stout cake on my second visit. The pound cake wasn't on the dessert menu during my second visit, so it seems like they may change the dessert options available. Great new brewery in Logan Square! The food here was fantastic and would come back solely for the papas bravas, which were perfectly crispy on the outside. The sauce that came with it was spicy, but not at all too spicy and was the perfect complement to the potatoes. I think this is my favorite place in Chicago to get papas bravas now, beating out Cafe Ba Ba Reeba. Also, at only $7, you get a generous serving size. 5/5 I got the burrata as my main entree. The burrata was super buttery and the sauce that came with it had a nice nutty/sweet taste. 4.5/5 The only thing that we ordered which was not worth a reorder was the cake. I thought it was a bit dry and was average. 2.5/5 For drinks, I ordered the hefe, a beer with hints of banana. I thought it was great and not too fruity or sweet.
