We come here pretty often and we usually sit at the bar...we've continually had poor service from the bar staff who will wash dishes or stand around rather than looking at the bar to see if anyone need a anything. Last time we spent at least 5 minutes watching a bartender walk back and forth, each time trying to get her attention to order another beer. We were certain she would see that all 3 of our drinks were empty...but she didn't. There has been ONE time, and one time only where the bartender has been exceptionally friendly , and took our order in a timely manner. Last time we say outside on the patio and our server was GREAT! I think the poor service lies only at the bar- too bad since we enjoy sitting there. They also recently got Abita beer from New Orleans on tap! Terrific stuff! read more

This place has an amazing cheeseboard but I wish you could pick and choose/build your own selection of items as the tomato jam and goat cheese is the best I have ever had but some of the other items just aren't my personal favorite. My favorite items to order are the crispy cauliflower with the sriracha honey sesame sauce, Mac and cheese and the pretzels. I've tried the pub chips but they weren't a personal favorite (they get soggy quick) and if I order an entree, I love their paperdelle pasta dish. read more

Loved the French Fries - they were crisp in a little basket so they never got soagy. This would be a great place for a date - on the deck. Inside is pretty noisy. The Union Public House is a new addition to the Tucson bar and restaurant scene. They opened Halloween Weekend, 2011 and since then have been getting better and better. When they purchased this location they completely overhauled the space and did it right. First walking into this place you really get a traditional pub feeling, wood floors and open space with a large bar area and an extra large outdoor patio. The ambiance is perfect but it is a bit loud. The menu is fabulous I've tried everything from the Fish and Chips to the flat breads and I can honestly say I haven't been disappointed. Having lived in the UK, one of the first things I try at a new "pub" are the Fish and Chips. But their fish was well cooked and the batter was crispy and not soggy at all. The Union Public House is an authentic taste of what a real "pub" is all about. The beer selection is wide and the cocktail menu is incredibly creative. I also have a soft spot for The Union Public House because they give back to their community and have been since they opened. They participated in St. Phillip's Plaza's "A Winter Night's Dream" and donated profits from a wine tasting to the Junior League of Tucson, a non-profit whose goal is empowering women to make their community a bettery place and whose local focus area is making homes safe for the independent elderly. As stated in my last post, we were outside with cement flooring and marble tables, there was absolutely no damage to your old tables or wooden floors inside. Also not to mention that I had stated that we used confetti, not glitter per your website. It states glitter, and nothing about confetti. They were also big pieces of confetti not small pieces that get stuck everywhere. So this is my second time coming to Tucson and I decided to come to Union. My first visit was amazing, but my second hasn't started out as great. I ordered the Union burger, and asked if I could substitute a small portion of the Pub Chips, knowing there could be an up charge. The manager stated he couldn't do it, so I ordered the Pub Chips app. I got my appetizer, had one bite, which wasn't very good and they immediately brought my burger out. That is probably my worst pet peeve. Give the patrons time to enjoy their appetizers before you bring out the meal. After my dinner I had a discussion with the manager and he wasn't apologetic and only made excuse...I'm sure you know the saying, excuses are like.... I could keep writing about our conversation, but it's not worth my time. Needless to say, I will never go there again!! read more

Since coming to Tucson half a year ago I've visited Union many times on various occasions - from casual dinners, to late night weekend get-togethers, to the infamous "Whiskey Wednesday's." Besides being within walking distance to my apartment, Union offers a lot of great dining options paired with a bountiful alcohol selection, making it an ideal modern bar to frequent. Today was the first time I went to Union during their "social hour," essentially a happy hour (4-7pm), for some food and a drink. While normally busier during these hours, we were lucky that it was a Monday afternoon. The cordial front of the house led my friend and I to an outdoor seating option on one of their several lounge couches. I started my order with an Oberon Ale, which the waitress kindly offered to serve to me in a chilled glass. From there I ordered an order of the "Mason Jar," and the Union Burger with fries. The Mason Jar is a house-brine pickling of assorted veg (cucumber, peppers, cauliflower, squash, zucchini squash, carrots, and olives). The aroma and initial taste were subtle, and not too overwhelming. However, there was definitely a nice tart and sour flavor to the vegetables, with a nice fresh crunch to each bite. There's plenty of pickled goods in each jar, so it's definitely fit to share among a small group. The Union Burger was simple, yet sufficient - a perfectly round patty seasoned with some salt and pepper, served with lettuces, tomatoes, and a pickle. Unfortunately, my top bun was a little burnt from being over-seared, but in general the flavor of the burger was pretty tasty. The fries served with the burger were a little oily, as I remember they usually are, seasoned with some sea salt. However, I'm not going to pretend like that stopped me from finishing the small basket completely. All in all, another fine dining experience at Union. We went to Union Public House for happy hour. The drink specials were decent, but no better than other happy hours around town. I got the pulled pork sandwich to eat and the girlfriend got mac and cheese with short rib. The pulled pork was ok. I like the addition of coleslaw, which you don't often see in the west, but the sauce seemed to be just a standard tomatoe based sauce nothing special. Additionally, the pork was very obviously not smoked, which is always disappointing for dishing claiming to be bbq. Also, the fries were extremely salty The girlfriend said that the mac and cheese was fine. It had decent cheesey flavors, but the short rib wasn't very tender. I live a colorful duality: I eat frozen meals about fifteen times a week but still like to insist I'm classy. In that regard, the uni is a great place to be. It feels way less trashy than some of the places on University and in general it's an awesome place to drink with friends. The food here is actually great too, like the meat and cheese platters that are super shareable. Though, nothing comes close to the excitement of when you tell someone to meet at union and they end up going to the student union at the University of Arizona. I live for those moments. read more

But if you are looking for an excellent drink, whiskey, and beer list with foods that compliment those health conscious drinks (with moderation, of course) then run, don't walk, to this cool Public House. I was in Tuscon (yes, the home of the enemy, Go Devils!) for a conference. Reading Yelp reviews I was please to find this was there miles from where I was staying. I was also pleased to find it was Whiskey Wednesday. w00t! The whiskey was half priced and they had a great beer list with many local beers. I sampled (ok, ok, I at nearly all of them) their chips (in house chips with white cheddar, house created bacon chunks, and a lot of other goodness) together with a neat whiskey and a local IPA. I am not sure how, but my better judgment seemed to erode so I also sampled the fish and chips. It was enough fried food to last me a month (ok, ok... a week) .. I've been here a million times, and there's only one thing that's disappointing. I'll get to that in a second. First, even when they are crowded it's never uncomfortable, and I've never had to wait for a table. Second, they don't really advertise it, but they do have gluten-free flatbread for the charcuterie board and it's delish. I've never had a full meal there, so I can't speak to any of that. Third, I love how every night there is a different type of drink special, which makes it really fun. Fourth, they play great music, and it's music for late-20s and 30-somethings, which means it's not attractive for undergrads. That's awesome for me, because I don't want to run into my students. So what's disappointing is that one of their specials is mules, and their Moscow mules are wrong. "We don't put mint in ours." Hello, that makes it not a Moscow mule. It's just a vodka with lime and ginger beer (and honestly I'm not convinced it's ginger beer; it's so light on the ginger flavor that it's probably ginger ale). So very wrong. So unacceptable. I can't reiterate that enough times. Moscow mules are perfect drinks, and Union is just incorrect. But if you're not as exacting as I am, or if you're not a fan of mules anyway, you'll be fine. I reviewed this place years ago and it remains just as fantastic! Spent time watching a basketball game here this past week and had a perfect evening. I love sitting at the bar at Union where televisions are located perfectly for viewing the b ball game. The bartenders are awesome! They are attentive and helpful. Our bartender of the evening helped us select some great beers. Thursday just so happens to be discount on copper cups too. This is great news for a gal like me that loves Moscow Mules! Union does 'em right! They also have an excellent Scottish Mule ($6 on Thursday). The burger was excellent and the brussels sprouts with beets and bacon are a must! Do not get the hype. Wilted lettuce on my burger, a dirty knife, snotty bartender and I just bit into a hot pepper thinking it was a pickle! The mason jar was a great idea but cutting hot peppers in the exact same size and shape as a pickle is not a good thing. The burger was all right. I've had better at another place in town... Really, what made this the worst is the snotty bartender. :( She barely gave us the time of day while she kissed the "you know" of the rich old dude who hits on her every night. Union Public house is a gastro-pubby bar with great decor, an interesting menu, and attractive people ;) Seriously, I think this is where all the good looking people in Tucson come to mingle during dinner and happy hours. The service is super friendly and very open to explaining everything on the menu. While the happy hour specials aren't terribly cheap, they aren't bad, especially compared to the atrocious LA "specials" I've become accustomed to. Wines are $5, mixed drinks are $6. They make a pretty delicious moscow mule. The wines on the HH list are a little on the dry side, but that's ok with me! The best thing on the happy hour menu is definitely the burger. Although it says it's $6, this basic burger is pretty naked. I recommend going "union" style for ~$3 more which includes a bacon jalepeno jam, pickled red onions, and cheese. They are happy to make it protein style as well. The burgers come with either chips or fries. Every day of the week, they have drink specials, like whiskey Wednesdays when the whiskey is 1/2 price, 1/2 price bottles of wine on Mondays and Tuesdays, $4 craft beers on Thursdays, and 2 for 1 drink specials on Sundays. 3rd visit to Union restaurant. Myself & entire family conclude it was the LAST. First time for dinner 10/2018, my husband & I sat on patio. Food, service, atmosphere great & gave server kudos to manager. Told everyone i know how nice Union is. Second time 3/17/19 service was very very slow. 2 1/2 hrs & $100 later we finished. I convinced my family to return for mothers day 5/12/19 & this was a BAD experience. We sat on patio without canopy in hot sun, waiter was rude and a complete A-hole, waited & watched water-girl go to 4 tables around us to fill water EXCEPT OURS then had to yell to get her attention as she walked off, My mom asked for tarter sauce which never arrived. I expressed to manager this is considered high-end restaurant so high-end service is expected & this was the worst. In town for the weekend, staying at the Hilton Garden Inn across the parking lot. Trying out Union Pub was an easy decision, especially because my family loves pubs. The atmosphere is quite nice. Lots of stained wood, yet still looks modern. The bar with its bountiful supply of whiskies is obviously the centerpiece of the place. They offer outside seating as well, but we're not accustomed to the AZ heat and asked to be seated inside. No problem. Honestly, the prices are average for a place like this. You know when you walk in that it's going to be a little pricey. The cost of the drinks was par for the course. We tried the pretzels as an appetizer. Simple, I know. The ale cheese sauce was good, but the house mustard was amazing! Definitely worth a try. My wife ordered the Poke Stack appetizer as her meal. Lots of guacamole which is a good thing. It was a good rendition of this popular gastropub dish. One of my sons went with the Heifer pizza. It was a delicious combination of complex flavors, with the garlic crema leading the way, yielding to pickled red onion, and then balsamic bringing up the rear. The short rib got lost in all of that, although when tried by itself was tender and savory. The crust looked and tasted like a rustic pizza from Italy! My other son was mesmerized by the Chicken & Waffle. The problem was that there were so many bones in his chicken that he was constantly fighting with it while trying to create a perfect bite. He finally despaired and left a lot of meat on the bones. The waffle was okay but not great. On the other hand, based on reviews I had read I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich. It was incredible! It definitely won the award for best dish of the evening. Moist on the inside with crunchy skin on the outside, with smokey bacon and honey mustard. My wife ended up eating a quarter of it at least! She'll order it next time. The service was good to start, but then tapered off after the food was delivered. We would have ordered another round of drinks had they come around to ask, but they wound up leaving some money and some empty glasses on the table. Location and ambiance go a fair way for Union Pub. I believe that there are some real gems on their menu, and I would go back to try to find some more. In the meantime, if you get the Chicken & Waffle then you might try asking for the chicken from the sandwich. I know that my son wishes that he had done so. read more

Their beer selection is good, but their wine list was definitely a highlight. We ordered a half price bottle they just recently began to carry, and the waiter was spot on in his description. The food was good and the portion sizes were great. I don't usually leave anything behind, but I definitely ate my fair share and couldn't finish my meal. We had a couple Moscow Mules, and sat at the bar after we finished our meals. When it's not completely inundated with people, Union is a great place to just hang out. However, if you come to party on Whiskey Wednesday, expect to wait in line for a bit. There's a trendy mix of people there that night, and the music is generally good enough to get people moving. Don't expect super fast service from the bar, but with hundreds of people, they hold their own. It's just getting the attention of the bartender that proves difficult at times. I was very impressed by Union Public House. It's got the trendy Americana vibe down to a T. The staff is attractive and friendly, the food is well prepared, the drinks are fun (blue ball, anyone?), they serve beverages in mason jars, and your bill comes on a mini clipboard. It's too much! This was my first time getting mussels since my seaside vacation, so I wasn't sure if they would be up to par, but they were mighty tasty. When I saw they had brussel sprouts (BBB) on the menu, I about fell over. I LOVE brussel sprouts. They're prepared with bacon, beets, and honey - and they are divine. My husband shies away from upscale places, but he admitted that although the vibe is trendy, it's still very comfortable and casual.
