First timer here. Since I was unimpressed by their lovely neighbor, Reforma, and this is on my drive home from work, my boyfriend and I decided to try this place out. Surprisingly not too busy for a Friday night, maybe because we just missed the happy hour. We were seated right away, and had our drink order taken (well, just water at the time) and took our time looking over the menu. We ended up getting beer. A Barrio Blonde for me, and a Sonoran White Chocolate ale for him. We got pretzels as an appetizers. I love me some soft pretzels, 2 sticks with a grainy mustard and mustardy cheesy dippy sauces. The cheese one was good. Had a hint of maybe the same grainy mustard. Those lasted all but 5 seconds. We were hungry! On to the entrees. I get a burger. I'm a burger freak, and that's usually my go-to wherever I go in case they don't have anything else I won't like, but this place had be thinking between that and the chicken and waffle. Just got a basic burger. Lettuce, tomato, cheese, red onion, and what could be their own homemade pickles, which happens to be a spicy sweet pickle. I'm weird with pickles so I ended up eating them on their own, and the bun! Soft, and chewy. Looks like a pretzel bun, tastes like a brioche. Yummy. Boy gets the braised pork osso bucco. Came with some green beans on top of polenta. He's more adventurous when it comes to food. He said it was really good, and it came with more food than you would think. Hmm. Don't know what to make of this place based on our first visit... This review is not based on having to wait for a table on a Saturday night... that is completely understandable even though we were told 20 minutes and when we asked at 45 minutes they couldn't find our check in even though we had the text and there were at least six open tables inside when we were seated. The check in stand seemed very unsure of what they were doing Anyway, my review starts with the escorted walk to the table... and one of the staff working the floor cuts in front of me with a hard bump... no excuse me or apology...he just kept going. Once we were seated it was another twenty minutes for a server to come to the table. We were about to get up and leave. We asked for water and a drink menu... she said she would try to find one and disappeared for another ten minutes. When she brought the waters we ordered the pretzel stick appetizer. It arrived almost immediately. The sheers dip was cold and congealed. I asked for a new one and she promptly said she could bring a new one but it won't be any different. She never brought a new cheese dip. Also, we didn't have any silverware or napkins and couldn't find our server so we went over to the side of room where they were rolling then in napkins and asked for some. We ordered the burgers and they took about twenty minutes and were very good for what we ate... we were still eating when a bus boy came and took out meals that we were still eating. He gave me a dirty look when I said we were still eating and just took them anyway. Our server was at the table at the time and was very apologetic. She went on to say this was his first food service job and didn't know any better. Our server did give us a complimentary dish of ice cream to make up for it. In short, the food and atmosphere was very nice but the staff doesn't seem to have a clue. Okay okay I know it's St. Patrick's day but I have to say today's service was amongst the slowest I have ever encountered. We waited forever to get our drinks after getting seated and then we honestly probably waited 30-45minutes for our food to come out which really wasn't good. After the wait I didn't even want to complain. I ordered bottomless mimosas with my friends and only had two because it took forever to get a drink. Highly doubt I'll be back which sucks. I honestly think they were short staffed but I have never had such bad service anywhere. My server was amazing but after hearing her apologize for the 100th time I was really sick of it. read more

If I had to put a rating, I would put zero but they can't even put that in Yelp. I was so upset with the service. This is not my first time going into union the first time the server dropped drinks on me and my family and the second time I went in they didn't even acknowledge me. This is my fifth time in and I was cold. I asked if they could put on the heaters and they said I should learn how to dress I ask for the manager, Donna, and the manager told me "maybe I should leave." I am so upset. 100% avoid pick up service. I ordered online and picked up my food. It was a large order . Got home and my bag was full of side dishes. Every entree was missing except for the pizza. Called and was told they can't do anything, I have to go through Postmates since "my dasher didn't pick up both my bags of food". At this point, I explained that I'd picked up the order myself and they handed me my food. Still no help although I was given the option to come back and pick up the rest of my food. Which at this point had been ready for over an hour because no, they would not replace it with a fresh order even if I came back to get it. Managers are apparently all in a meeting. I should add that I didn't even realize the order went through Postmates. When you call to place an order, the message says to visit the Union House website. That's exactly what I did - routing it through a third party was not my choice. Postmates was super hard to understand and the phone connection was awful. I have been on the phone with them for 20 minutes now and am hungry and irritated and on hold. Seems likely that I'll get at least part of my money back but not without a lot of effort. Really not worth it. *Updated to add that I was put on hold with Postmates while they got authorization from Union House and then disconnected. To be fair, the connection had been dreadful and I'm guessing the rep did not hang up on purpose. Total call was more than 40 minutes. I'll just be over here eating the Brussels sprouts which I did receive and sadly wishing for the last two hours of my life back. read more

Oh dear, this place is so focused on staying open late it can't focus on food. Our take out order was an hour late (don't order online since they don't start it until you get there) and still it was cool by the time my husband got it home only 5 miles away. Also, greasy veg, especially the greens (my cat liked some however.) The brocolli was charred black. Sauces are congealed. Hummm. Service was mediocre and the food was just ok. We started as a party of four and one person joined us late but we're told there was at least a 30 min wait when we arrived. It was actually about 15 min so that was great but upon being seated, no waitress in sight for almost ten minutes. When she finally did show up to take our drink orders, she was friendly and as attentive as she could be. Her name escapes me at the moment. We ordered apps, I, the poutin, one calamari and one ordered sliders. My other friend ordered her main meal which was on the app menu, chicken strips and fries. The poutin was BANG'n! If you don't know what poutin is, a Canadian dish of fries, smothered in brown gravy and cheese and can also sometimes feature meat(this did not) but it did not disappoint. It could've been my main meal as it is quite filling but my greedy ass ordered the short ribs as well which was clearly a mistake once I received it. It was imo luke warm, maybe even cold in some parts so it barely got eat'n and I wasted $24 as I didn't even take it to go. If that's any indication of the disappointment I felt in that meal. I think I'd go back here or at least try the other restaurants in the plaza. read more

At first glance this is an impressive establishment and it's quite large and eccentric. The status of the restaurant is quite lifelike as it is a college bar type vibe with exterior elegance. The location is beautiful and the building is well thought out and effective. The staff however had been quite rude the host had scoffed when she had to seat us and brought us back to a dirty table. We didn't complain just chose to see past it as we were curious what else they had to offer. We then proceeded to wait for some time. The glasses of warm water Infront of us and it was quite obvious we were supposed to be served with ice as everyone around us had been. Then after an inconsiderate amount of time we had been served for our drinks and had received them presently. Same had happened for the food it had been quite some time til she had received our order to presented the food to us. The food itself was confusing I had received a burger which had barbecue sauce in it when it's Menu options said none, Just a typical burger. Very underwhelming food and options the service is barely forgivable because I had learned they were understaffed but I still have to review negatively for the food and the consideration of customers. read more

I've been to Union too many times to count at this point and always leave pretty satisfied! This bar has a really large seating area, bad, table inside, booth, or tables outside. The bar is spacious and a common place for people to watch sporting events. They have a large menu selection, mainly American eats. I've gotten many dishes here that I have enjoyed: Union Burger, Beet Salad, Falafel, Meatlof, Grilled Chicken Sandwich. They have some pretty solid appetizers, too. The service is consistently A-OK, I've never had a bad experience. They have a good wine/ beer selection as well. Overall, if you're looking for a slightly above average American meal, Union is a solid spot! read more

However, I've ordered twice now through delivery services and the first time the food was wrong, this second time I had mold on my food. I'm not sure exactly how a giant black spot is not noticed on a pretzel (or how it's prepared that it would remain there) but it's quite disappointing that there is so little care about food quality that this food would remain in the kitchen let alone be served. read more

I like a pub environment, but the food has to be good, or it's not for me. I wanted to like the Union, but the food failed to win me over -- i.e., waffle and fried chicken, with a cold, red, center on the chicken. Ugh. BUT ... if it's a fun place to drink a few beers you're looking fo, this could be your place. Features include the aforementioned pub environment, with over 30 beers on tap, lots of TVs, and truth be said, friendly service. I've always loved this place I am born and raised in Tucson Arizona and union house has always been the number one choice for my family. Until the very first time I decided to come here for brunch. I was told it was open seating and I could sit wherever I would like with my guests that were from out of town. After sitting for 10 minutes we were approached by a manager named Donna. Donna told us we need to get up this table is reserved and go see the hostess again it was very rude and short tempered. Once we went back to the hostess she seemed a bit confused as to why we were turned away from our table but quickly found us a new table. Donna served us and when my friend asked for espresso coffee she said "no...we have what's on the menu". Other than this manager, Union is a great environment! Also this event took place months ago but I just saw Donna with the same rude demeanor. read more

My aunt I were seated quickly on a busy Thursday night during the recent gem show. We both had the blackened salmon dinners and rave about them. After the meal my aunt realized a ring had slipped off her finger. We returned to look around the table with no success and left our phone number with Chase at the host stand just in case. A few minutes after we settled into our hotel room, we had a call from Chase who searched and found the slim gold ring of great sentimental value. We dashed back to pick it up and he shared his own story of locating his grandmother's sentimental ring under her couch. Chase is an absolute gem, going above and beyond, and we can't wait to return for another delicious meal. read more

I am disgusted with this place today. I got here at 4Pm and the very friendly hostess sat me in the plaza. After 20 minutes no one had come to me. I walked into the bar area with the intention of leaving . The hostess saw me an apologized. Since there was a seat at the bar, I thought I would give it another try. The hostess walked by me 10 minutes later and I had still not been served. She addresses it with the bar staff and I finally got served. My food came out a little later and my drink has been empty since, while all football officiandos in the area are being served and joined in their appreciation of the game. I have been here on many occasions, but this is singularly the most disappointing time to come and eat and drink. I am an amazing topper since I know that these Covid times are hard for the restaurant industry. I probably will not give a zero tip, but I would appreciate a little attention as someone who is trying to support their plight. Pretty pissed off here. Came for a late Sunday brunch or lunch. Served brunch until 3pm - great for you late sleepers. Bloody Mary was excellent and only $5.00, along with some other fabulous sounding Sunday beverages. I had the Union Burger and I was extremely pleased. It was a chilly so I started off with a tomato basil soup and it was creamy and fabulous. The atmosphere here was awesome both inside and out. Menu is extensive. Excellent patio with a beautiful courtyard. It was very busy but we still had great service. read more

We came here for a salad and I told my partner I will never come again. Here are the reasons why: First off, the reviews say this is not a good place for kids. Well let me tell you, there were about 16 kids in here all screaming and running around throughout our entire stay. Secondly, the waiter was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. He did smile at us but it took him eight minutes to get my partners tea out and he never did bring me a water. After 12 minutes and counting I went up to the bar and got my own water. Next, He kept running by and smiling at us even though we shove the menus to the edge of the table. We finally had to grab him waving our arms and flashing them to get him to come take our order. I ordered a kale salad and my partner had a butter leave bacon lardon salad. Hers looked OK. But mine came with wilted heirloom tomato slices in 4 teeny sized mozzarella balls (the size of a Pea). Now I'm not a big eater I'll tell you, but I left there starving and I would've ordered more but I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for the d... waiter to come by. My partner felt pretty much the same about her salad. Needless to say, I recognize this is a sports bar on some level, but the service was pretty poor and the food - - the good - - just wasn't much in portion size. So much for Phillips Plaza having a good place to stop by. If you want to drink and happy hour go, BUT if you want to decent meal skip this place. Update: The manager actually wrote me and offered to send me a gift card in the mail to make this right. However to date, I have never received a gift card although I did give him my business address which is private. It is now 10/11. Nice to receive an apology though. I guess we won't be stopping by anytime soon. Update number two: Well we finally went back and all I can say is the waitress or somebody messed up our order. We sat out back and were shocked at the poor condition of the furniture on the patio. There were huge holes in a lot of the benches which were stuffed. The mess up was: we got a sandwich that we never ordered and I think they ran back and through together my partner's order for a salad instead. The salad was not as good as the last time and just thrown together. I had an Ahi tuna salad and I got two tiny little pieces that were way too salty. It also came with some kind of kimchi relish which luckily I ordered on the side - - totally inedible in my opinion. We finally got an apology from the waitress after she saw several times and we had to grab her to get a refill on the tea. People here are fairly nice, just don't know why it's inconsistent each time we come in. My partner and I both think it might be a little too much to spend for all the inconsistency. read more

Today's visit was a huge disappointment. I've been here in the past and probably won't return in the future. I ordered some fries and a couple of cocktails. Simple right? Well, my fries were dry and rubbery and not seasoned as I had asked. The cocktail was ok. Moscow Mule. Was with a friend and her wings were just marginal as far as texture and flavor she said. There were only two servers for both indoors and out. When I asked if the establishment was having a difficult time hiring due to the pandemic, the server said "No , we just always have two people scheduled for the mornings" . Well, this was at 1:00 pm and on a holiday to boot! The poor servers couldn't keep up with a packed house and it spilled over as poor service to the customers. Others were frustrated as well. Wow. This was really hard for me to rate. The food was AMAZING! However the service was not as great. Our waitress barely came to our table even though two people got bottomless mimosas. They would have been better off just ordering one by one since they only got three, which is not worth the price of a bottomless one. We had to flag her down to get refills on our waters and teas as well. We ended up opening up an umbrella ourselves after we waited ten minutes to ask her to. At the end when we had to pay she held the device the entire time and watched what the tip was and telling us that most tip 25%. If you are hoping to get COVID-19, be sure to stop in here!!! On a slow, Monday evening (9/21), waited 10 minutes for a hostess that never appeared, so seated ourselves at the bar ~ which had obviously not been sanitized, so I cleaned it myself. The bartender was friendly and offered good service. When our friends arrived, we asked to be seated outside. Another 10 minute wait for a hostess, who apologizes and says she's the only one working. She leads us to an outdoor table that was NOT CLEAN! She apologizes and sends someone over. This girl uses a rag with sanitizer on it (so she says) and makes one swipe across the table ~ didn't even wipe the whole surface. I pointed this out to her so she looks irritated and starts wiping it with the dirty rag about 20 times. At this point, I have no confidence in anything being sanitary in this restaurant/bar, so we left. Saw several employees standing around talking to each other, rather than helping guests or cleaning surfaces. Unfortunately didn't get to try anything on the menu, which actually had good offerings. Overall, terrible service and not observing the cleaning protocols they say they have put in place. Skip this place if you value your health. read more

Super disappointed in this place. I heard it was a cool place to go cause they're open late but I wouldn't even bother. The service was really bad, I get it there's limited staff but even then it shouldn't take 25-30 minutes to greet your table. The servers make you close your tab before you're done so they can force a 20% tip on your tab. And then the server after that won't acknowledge you even exist. Stopped at Union for their happy hour. They have a good variety of happy hour menu items. We got the pretzel, Mason jar, and pub chips. The pub chips had amazing flavor, and we're definitely a crowd pleaser. There was plenty of food. We went in for appetizers and walked away fuller than we wanted to be. They offer a large bar selection. The service was fast. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The location is beautiful, located in St. Phillips plaza. The ambience is dark inside but they have great outdoor dining. This is a must go to restaurant when in the Tucson area. read more

Friends often invite me here, which is quite unfortunate. I've tried it several time since they opened, and it has always been regretted. Here is a brief and honest review. Atmosphere : Inside can get just too loud - it hurts my sensitive ears Food : Just realize their website pictures are 1) wishful thinking, and 2) just pictures and not the taste or consistency of the actual food. Had to send back the Mac and Cheese, since I would not feed it to my dog, or give to a homeless person. Gloopy, tasteless, and undercooked pasta. (I will post pic and video if possible). Drinks : Beer is ok, and perhaps also a Moscow Mule. Hey put it in a copper cup and everyone likes it, right? Bloody Mary was god awful and sent back. The inside scoop is that this is common. Staff : Hostess, and some waitresses super friendly and nice even when they are very busy. Other wait staff can be cold. Manager : Young, arrogant and ignorant sums it up. Seriously needs to venture out to understand decent food and beverage service from good competitors, forget about appreciating fine dining, just take baby steps. Needs work on attitude and demeanor.
