I've been here twice now. The line has been consistently long between 3 and 6 pm during opening week--seems like people are coming from out of town which is good for business. The line moves fairly quickly, I believe in part due to how quickly one can make a latte or put soft serve in a cup as opposed to having to cook or make a meal. The best thing about the items here is they aren't too sweet. The matcha soft serve is a very strong matcha flavor, the black sesame has a black sesame flavor though not as strong as expected, and the ube really tastes quite strongly of ube with that classic slightly savory taste to it. Though they do not offer matcha-ube or matcha-sesame swirl soft serve, you can ask for half and half in a cup or cone and it'll just be a top-bottom split instead of a swirl. By far the best I've had in the Castro Valley & Hayward area. I true spot that specializes in matcha and not just having matcha in their menu. Service was quick and simple. I went during their soft opening week. They were fully staffed and wait-time was really quick! They had bids lined but got the drinks out very quick. The inside is very nice, super modern and aesthetic. I ordered their creamy banana pudding matcha, it was quite delicious and will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area! My only complaint is the price. I almost paid 10 dollars for a single Large beverage. Nonetheless the drink was very good and would recommend to friends and family. I've had this twice and I am delighted each time with what I get. I can't wait to go back and try some more. The first time I tried a yuzu matcha because I wasn't feeling like drinking anything milky that day and it was pretty refreshing. It was interesting but I can't say I loved it and would order this again. I will say the matcha quality was definitely there it! Today I came back for a black sesame cream top matcha and the original cream top hojicha both small with no modifications. I really liked the sesame cream top but it really overpowered the matcha. Have already been here a couple times - once when they did the "practice day" and we got 2 drinks for free, and then a couple more times where we paid full price. I've come during their initial free drink day before their soft opening, and then another time for their actual soft opening. Line starts at the front of the entrance and is roped off. Inside is very bright and has nice decor, but can be a bit cold especially at night. There are some tables and chairs outside too. During their free drink day, I was able to try the iced matcha latte with ube cheese cap and another iced matcha latte with original cheese cap. Ube had a good flavor, but the matcha flavor could be stronger. It's on the lighter side and I don't think you can adjust sweetness, so they are relatively sweet but not overly sweet. I would still prefer the option of choosing less sweet. Returning for the soft opening, I only opted for the cup of soft serve (ube & black sesame). I do wish the soft serve was more creamy as it was a tiny bit icy but flavor was still good (perhaps I'm too used to the soft serve at Meadowlark). Overall a very solid matcha spot, especially for the Castro Valley area. I'd still prefer matcha from Matsu Matcha, although that's a bit farther away. read more

We went opening weekend and the line was long but moving pretty quickly. We waited longer for our drinks than in line! Be patient with the workers they're doing their best!! Unfortunately for the weekend the matcha was pre batched, but I did see a bowl and whisk so I'm guessing when the line isn't crazy they will be hand whisking! I'm really excited, this has to be one of the best things to happen to Castro valley in terms of matcha spots. The matcha float is so refreshing and the matcha soft serve is great, you can really taste the umami matcha. I'm interested in going back to try the sparklers. Plenty of seating outside and inside so I think this place will be bustling all summer. There's a bathroom, and counter top seating. Went today around 1:30pm, line was out the door but got moving fast! In addition to the cashier, there was another person going down the line to take orders (like they do at in n out lol). I went yesterday, so I'm not sure if it was still soft opening. The line was out the door. We waited about 30 minutes. I got the Matcha soft serve which was incredible. We were kind of in a rush, so we didn't have time to wait for drinks to be made since it took a little bit more time so I figured with the soft server it would be easier and faster. The employees were really nice. I wish I had time to look at the menu beforehand. I usually go to a place knowing what I am am going to order, but since I was in the area and we saw that it was open, we just went in. It was over $8 after tax. A friend and I showed up for the soft opening (or was it truly a grand opening?!) on a whim only to find ourselves in an hour long line. Luckily we had planned to meet for lunch that my friend already picked up so we had it in line while catching up. From the time we joined the line till we received our drinks, 18 minutes. Not bad at all. We sat outside at the tables with umbrellas and cushioned chairs provided by Urban Matcha ( it was full inside, and the music was too loud for my taste ), surrounded by planters with colorful flowers. We bought sushi at nearby Akemi sushi from the Marketplace, and we had an fast al fresco lunch. Everything was delicious. I warned my granddaughter the matcha latte might be bitter since it was a darker green than her usual Starbucks, but she said no, it is not bitter, she really enjoyed it. I had the matcha parfait, which had a layer of matcha cake, red beans, corn flakes and star jelly. I didn't realize corn flakes tasted so good with matcha soft serve!! My son had thé matcha latte with strawberry cheese cloud. Very good too! I'll get straight to the point, it's by far one of the best matcha places I've had so far, and I'm so grateful they opened close by. I've been to their soft opening twice so far. First, Friday night around 8-9. Can I just say I appreciate them extending their soft opening hours to 12-10pm on Fri-Sat cuz I'm tired of places closing at 8 or 9. This is probably a personal preference, but need me more places that close late as 10, and there's not many of those in Castro Valley. The line wasn't as long as it was in the afternoon, so prefer going night. I recommend going around evening time if you wanna avoid the crowds. We made adjustments to the banana pudding matcha but couldn't make adjustments to the sparkler. If you happen to stumble upon this place and are contemplating the sparkler drinks, I say go for it bc it would change ur life like it did mine lol. The interior is modern, clean and has a few small tables, a long bar sitting area, and window seating with big cushy pillows. The ube and black sesame combination was absolutely amazing--creamy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. I wasn't expecting to like it more than the parfait, but it ended up being my favorite item. The Matcha Parfait was good and definitely for serious matcha lovers, but it was a little too matcha-forward for my personal taste.
