I was hella stoked when I found out Urban Matcha opened in the Bay Area! I went to their Vegas location and liked the quality of the matcha in their latte and soft serve. We been here 3x's since they opened. 'Twas a hot asssk day during one of their soft openings and it was busy af. We couldn't find parking in the lot behind them so we had to find a spot in the lot over near a pet store. There were at least 20 people ahead of us. And you know a place is good when Asians are willing to wait in the sun for drinks. It was hella packed and busy inside. My boo ordered the banana pudding matcha and I ordered their Hojicha matcha float. I love the green hue of their matcha and soft serve. That deep green is an indicator to me that they got that premium stuff. The wait to order was long because I guess people are indecisive but the drinks come out pretty fast. I was surprised how fast and efficient they were during the soft opening, too! Despite the overwhelming amount of people inside we were able to snag a table near the door. The matcha soft serve was strong in flavaflav but wasn't too bitter. I'd say it's a level 3.8 out of 5 intensity wise. As it melted I mixed it in with the Hojicha. The Hojicha was nutty and toasty with a hint of caramel. It's a good drink to sip on if you want some caffeine but not really, since it's not as strong as matcha. The banana pudding was thiccck and had good banan flavaflav and it intermingled well together with the matcha. My boo said he really liked it and finished it pretty fast. They were open on 4th of July and had regular hours so we came out to try their parfait and strawberry/matcha latte. We went with the vanilla matcha swirl soft serve parfait. It was loaded with a lot of toppings such as mochi bits, corn flakes, matcha sponge cake, red bean and agar jelly. I liked the crunch that the flakes gave to add texture to the smooth soft serve. Parfait I recommend but was sad that it was kinda hollow inside. The strawberry cheese matcha was okay. I prefer strawberry jam or puree in my matcha lattes. The boo is a big fan of matcha strawberry so he downed the drink. We came out recently after their hard opening with friends and we ordered the sesame cheese Hojicha and my friend went with the matcha cone and sea salt foam matcha latte. The sesame cheese was interesting. It was salty and charcoal-esque. My friend didn't like the topping at all. She said it kinda tasted like cigarettes. My boo tried it and he said the flavors were okay-ish. He took a few sips and I basically finished it. I gave it a 6/10. Not everyone will like this drink. I think the sesame overpowered the Hojicha. My friend who loves matcha loved both the soft serve and latte. Urban is a great place to sip and chill with friends, your SO or family. The shop is new and modern with small booths with pillows, marble-esque round tables and bar tables on the opposite side of the shop. They have 2 restrooms at the back of the shop if you've consumed too much soft serve. Overall, urban knows how to do their matcha. Good lattes and soft serves at a decent price. Service is quick but employees could be a little more friendly. They're one of the best matcha shops in the East bay. Highly recommend to check it out if you're in the area. read more

I've tried Urban Matcha 2 times so far, both from someone at my work buying for everyone. The first time I had thought I ordered a Hojicha frappe, but when the driver brought it over it looked and tasted more like a matcha frappe. Not sure if the person we gave all of our orders to messed up or maybe the wrong drink was prepared, but while it was the wrong drink I still thought it tasted pretty good. Not overly sweet, and you can still taste the matcha. The second time around I ordered a Hojicha Latte with a strawberry cheese cap (making sure my coworker texted the right order just to be sure). And imo I thought it was real nice. I prefer the roasted taste of hojicha over matcha. Sweet, nutty, not too bitter, plus I thought the strawberry cheese cap was a nice touch as well to add some creaminess. I would really love to go to the place on one of my days off because so far I'm really loving the drinks! read more

I had been wanting to try Urban Matcha since they opened, but the long lines always kept me away. I stopped by on a Saturday around 6pm and there was no line out the door, so I took my chance! I'm definitely not a matcha girlie or connoisseur, but I ordered the medium Banana Pudding Matcha for about $9 and some change. The line moved quickly, my drink was ready in about two minutes, and the shop had a clean, fun atmosphere with music playing. Urban Matcha opens in Castro Valley! It's so refreshing to see this part of the East Bay get a specialty matcha cafe. I love their double matcha latte, as well as their different combinations of matcha lattes with different flavors of cream tops. My friend and I were around the area and wanted some matcha. I quickly looked up a spot on Yelp and found Urban Matcha. It was just a short distance walk from Yumee Katsu. I am happy that my husband told me about this place. It was busy when we got there, line off the door. The matcha here is good and you can really tell just by the color of their matcha! I've been here so many times now and every matcha cheese cap latte I get is always so good. I love that the cheese cap flavors never overpower the matcha taste. The line can get pretty long, esp on weekends but it goes by pretty quickly. Such a yummy spot! We came here on a Sunday. Parking was a bit tough but we finally got a spot. The line was quite long but went by quick. We ended up waiting 20 minutes till we got to order. Hojicha Float with Matcha Soft Serve 9/10 Strawberry Matcha Latte 8.5/10 Matcha Lychee Jelly 6.5/10 Hojicha Matcha was refreshing. I love the dark-roasted nuttiness of hojicha, and it pairs amazingly with the matcha soft serve. Strawberry Matcha was good. I prefer getting no sweet since the strawberry foam is pretty sweet. I got less sweet but it was still a bit too sweet for me. Matcha Lychee was really refreshing. I recommend it for those who want something on the lighter side and don't taste too much matcha. I had some time to kill before meeting up with a friend for lunch, so I decided to stop by and see what all the hype was about. I drove by around 10:30 a.m. and there wasn't anyone in line yet, so I parked and waited in my car for about 15 minutes. The people parked next to me mentioned they were going to get in line, so I figured it was probably time. I got in line around 10:50, and by the time they opened at 11:00, it took about 20 minutes before I was able to place my order. Once I ordered, my drink was ready in about 3 minutes, which was impressively fast considering the crowd. I ordered the regular Matcha Latte with the Ube Cheese Topper. The drink was really good, and the ube topper was definitely my favorite part. The matcha itself was smooth and flavorful, but honestly... was it worth all the hype and the wait? For me, not really. It was a good matcha latte, but I didn't find it to be anything especially unique or different from other great matcha spots I've been to. I do want to go back and try their Ube Soft Serve, but I'm not sure I want to wait in that line again. One thing that really stood out was the staff. Every employee I interacted with was friendly, smiling, and kept a positive attitude despite the steady line of customers. They all worked efficiently as a team, and no one looked stressed or overwhelmed. I did visit right when they opened, so I'm sure it gets even busier later in the day, but they handled the morning rush really well. Overall, I'm glad I finally gave it a try. The drinks are good, the staff is fantastic, and I can see why people enjoy coming here. I've been there twice, once in June and July to get a better idea of the store. The prices start at $5 to $10.95. The matcha flavor can be stronger in the drink. My first time took 25 minutes during weekday lunch, order a small matcha latte with strawberry cheese top ($8.60 with tax). The strawberry tastes artificial and quite strong, so it overpowers the matcha. Second time, I went, order a matcha creme, it's a matcha latte with whip cream. The drink was good, but needs more matcha flavor. Plenty of tables in the store and some outdoor seating. Gets slightly cramped where everyone is waiting for order. I've been here twice now. The line has been consistently long between 3 and 6 pm during opening week--seems like people are coming from out of town which is good for business. The line moves fairly quickly, I believe in part due to how quickly one can make a latte or put soft serve in a cup as opposed to having to cook or make a meal. The best thing about the items here is they aren't too sweet. The matcha soft serve is a very strong matcha flavor, the black sesame has a black sesame flavor though not as strong as expected, and the ube really tastes quite strongly of ube with that classic slightly savory taste to it. Though they do not offer matcha-ube or matcha-sesame swirl soft serve, you can ask for half and half in a cup or cone and it'll just be a top-bottom split instead of a swirl. By far the best I've had in the Castro Valley & Hayward area. I true spot that specializes in matcha and not just having matcha in their menu. Service was quick and simple. I went during their soft opening week. They were fully staffed and wait-time was really quick! They had bids lined but got the drinks out very quick. The inside is very nice, super modern and aesthetic. I ordered their creamy banana pudding matcha, it was quite delicious and will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area! I've had this twice and I am delighted each time with what I get. I can't wait to go back and try some more. The first time I tried a yuzu matcha because I wasn't feeling like drinking anything milky that day and it was pretty refreshing. It was interesting but I can't say I loved it and would order this again. I will say the matcha quality was definitely there it! Today I came back for a black sesame cream top matcha and the original cream top hojicha both small with no modifications. I really liked the sesame cream top but it really overpowered the matcha. Have already been here a couple times - once when they did the "practice day" and we got 2 drinks for free, and then a couple more times where we paid full price. I feel like not a lot of things are open after 9pm in Castro Valley so I'm excited to hang out here with friends in the evenings this summer - Pretty solid service - all the gen Z staff is pretty professional and efficient Cons: - Pricing is up there (like $7 or more for most items), but I think that is to be expected for this kind of shop and in Castro Valley - Typical of this area, parking can be pretty tough especially on Friday nights or weekends around dinner time. Tried this during soft opening, we got the matcha cheese latte and the hojicha tea float. For the hojicha tea float with matcha ice cream, it was very good. There was a lot of ice cream which was perfect for the sunny hot day and it's a perfect 2 in 1 where you can try the soft serve and a drink. The hojicha tea was not grainy, it was very smooth but I did prefer it better when the soft serve melted to give it a sweeter flavor. My wife and Daughtergot a matcha drink and they said this would be one of their new match spots. There are about 5 tables and a counter that has about 10 stools. So lots of seating. Friendly service. I was excited to hear about a new matcha place in the east bay! Price wise- it is up there with many matcha places nowadays with my total for two drinks being $18. The line goes out the door, but it moves relatively fast so don't let that deter you. Service was excellent and did not disappoint. Seating is plentiful both outside and inside. Banana pudding matcha: 6.9/10 I honestly found this drink too sweet for my taste. The matcha quality was excellent though. I would opt to ask for less sweet if possible. Black sesame matcha: 8.2/10 This one is fantastic if you love that black sesame taste. Again, matcha was great quality. For its soft opening, they are doing very well. There was a line when I got there, so that gave me time to decide what to order. I decided on the Matcha + Vanilla Soft Serve. Matcha has a strong earthy taste by itself but with the mix of creamy Vanilla, that made it the perfect combo. They have a wide selection of matcha items that look captivating.
