This place was overall good. I would say to make sure you're ok with raw meat. I ordered a steak pho thinking it would be cooked, however, they serve their steak rare. I ordered it to go, so my meat was rare on my noodles since they package the broth separate. I was alarmed at first but they said it is meant to cook in the broth. Lowkey my favorite place to eat on campus. It's really close to me so I can walk there in minutes! Servers always so nice and friendly. The food comes out really quickly, their prices are pretty good and affordable for students. I love the chill and kind of awkward home atmosphere this place has. I usually get the pork banh mi because it's so cheap and fills me up. It tastes so fresh and healthy with the carrots, jalepeno (usually take this out), lettuce, and the pork is cooked really well and juicy. The pho here is also pretty good but I don't get it often because it's never pho weather. I like their boba a lot! It's usually really sweet but their slushes and drinks are good, the boba is made pretty well and chewy, and it's cheap! I got the pork vermicelli in this one and it's really good too! Before UTea Pho, you had to drive to places like 888/Pho Please/Tan My, for your fix of viet food. Now, all the common viet dishes are a walk away. I have tried the P5 Utea Special Pho, V4 Grilled Chicken and Egg Roll Vermicelli, and the S1 Grilled Pork Sandwich. P5 Utea Special: One of the first indicators of a great pho is a good broth, which is definitely present. They give a fair amount of noodles and meat, and also provide per bowl with a plate of the typical garnishes (bean sprouts/mint+basil/lime/jalapenos/etc). V4 Grilled Chicken and Egg Roll Vermicelli: It was just like any other vermicelli bowl. The only qualms I have are the meat portion that comes with it. It was just not enough meat for me personally, but everything else was great! S1 Grilled Pork Sandwich: Very typical banh mi. It had the charbroiled thit nuong flavor that should be in every sandwich. Great for a quick bite on the way to class. Utea Pho will always be a go-to spot for me when I want Vietnamese food and do not want to drive; great service is always ensured as well! read more

As a recent grad, my opinion of this place has changed a lot As a former Wampus resident and pho fanatic, having a pho place close to campus was awesome. I could walk 3 minutes from my apartment and have a hot bowl of delicious noodles. Now that I live further away, this is probably my last choice of places to get pho. My main issues with this place are that the broth seems watered down, they don't give you as many noodles as other places, and they don't give a lot of protein. I always get the brisket pho when I get pho and I'm usually satisfied with the consistency. The brisket at this place is extremely dry and the pieces are small. The only positive of this place for me now is that the service is very fast and friendly. I'm going to random-thought this: 1. When I graduated UT, there were six other Asians. Today on Rio Grande, I stopped counting at six thousand. That's pretty cool. 2. Cream Whiskers, Cream Whiskers, you'll be in our thoughts & prayers. Okay, we probably could have patronized you more, but seriously - how many cream puffs do you need in a year? 3. I really wasn't expecting all that much from here, but their "UTea Special" for $9.20 total was a good deal, and surprisingly tasty at that. My pic may be misleading, because that bowl really contains a generous portion. Now I want to return and try the Bún. 4. And unless I completely missed something, this place has no ambiance at all. I know they're brand new & may still be tweaking. Your Asian parents won't notice. Your Anglo parents may glance around warily. 5. With the possible exception of Coco's on the Drag, noodle/ramen/pho places around UT seem to come & go rather quickly. I think it's because it's one tough crowd here, and the magic formula better include cheap & good. So if this were my hood, would I blow this place off and head straight for the Asian Holy Land around North Lamar & Braker? Nah. Pho broth was very nice and the chicken in the vermicelli was so flavorful! The cream puff was on the sweet side but still tasty. I thought the valentines special was very cute and the restaurant was nicely decorated :-) the owner was so nice and walked us through the special (which included a free rose). New pho place on campus! My friends and I went to this place on Valentine's day at 900pm and we were excited to check this place out. Be aware! The feel of cream whiskers and this pho place is very very different. Not in a necessarily bad way, but I don't think the environment is well suited for studying and now it's definitely more of a place only for eating. I ordered pork vermicelli and it came out fairly quickly and in good portions. BUT I have to say, every few bites or so, some weird aftertaste would remain. After talking about it with my friends, we came to a conclusion that it was the cucumbers. At that point I was done with my meal but there was a tiny piece of cucumber left, so I tested our theory and behold... Maybe it's because it was the end of the night and they didn't have that many fresh ingredients but the combination of the sauce and the cucumber that was obviously going bad made me gag. But the staff is super friendly and I can see this place doing well. My friends and I both order additional 2 egg rolls (one dollar each) with our meals (the total is 4 egg rolls). So, it's supposed to be $4. However, because we order 4 of them and in the bill it becomes "House egg rolls" which is $4.25!! (Both House and additional egg rolls are the same thing, I already asked our waiter). I LOVED Cream Whiskers and so I was really excited when they re-opened it as UTea Pho! I went today (finally) to get a cream puff because I missed Cream Whiskers', and was excited to try them now as UTea Pho. (that being said, I'll add/edit to this review when I go back and try their Pho) The overall vibe of the location has completely changed- not a bad thing, it's just different. Cream Whiskers was more of a hangout/ study spot, and UTea Pho is definitely a place for just eating. They definitely changed up their cream puff recipe, and I'm a little disappointed with it. I always ordered the strawberry cream puff and loved it, and so I got it today for nostalgia. It was okay- just not nearly as great as their old recipe All in all, I like the place's renovations and can't wait to try their actual food. We came 30 minutes before close, agreed to do takeout because I understand how it feels to have customers come in at close. But, the girl at the counter was so incredibly rude I wish we'd ordered dine in just to make her wait. I asked whether General SO's chicken was different than general TSAO's chicken and she goes "i dont know" and then repeats my order motioning to the card reader. I was annoyed but whatever. Then I go the milk tea I ordered (and paid .95c extra to put tapioca in) and the boba was HARD. Like bite down hard, not even chewy. I rarely ask for a refund but that was $8 and terrible, so I asked for a refund. They tried to explain to me WHY the tapioca was hard, I said I understand but I still dont want to drink it, can I please get my money back. The same girl handed off the cash register to someone else as if I was being too difficult. And the food wasnt even good. Delicious affordable pho and cream puffs. I totally recommend this place, it's clean and has a lot of seating, and the food is great. We went here twice during our stay, and the service is really nice and attentive. I ordered chicken pho that had a surprisingly flavorful broth, and my boyfriend ordered the Utea special which he really liked as well. We came back later to try the cream puffs which were good, I enjoyed my mango cream a lot. The pho broth is very flavorful and they give plenty of vermicelli noodles. Wow!!! This place has some good pho. First taste of soup in my mouth and I could tell it was quality. The soup wasn't bland and tasted homemade. The meat was fresh and had good consistency, wasn't too hard. I got the pho with meatballs, brisket and the raw meat. I think it was the P5? Overall, a solid bowl of pho. We also got a peach smoothie with tapioca and I actually thought it was more delish than your average pho boba drink. It was cute and the perfect size. The prices for this place weren't too bad either! It was affordable for a college student. I talked to the owner and he said the broth is made from bones, and not MSG as some other places are. It was my first time trying UTea Pho, and it's kinda crazy how the whole time I've been at UT, I've never visited til now. The food was great! It's your classic local Vietnamese restaurant. I ordered my pho to-go, and like basically all Vietnamese restaurants do, the rare steak was uncooked so it would be fresh when you finally eat it at home (you heat up the broth in a small pot, and then add all the ingredients; the meat should cook through properly if the broth is hot enough). I also got the UTea Crazy Drink, which was really good too! It's a little bit on the sweeter side, bc of all the different kinds of jellies and stuff they put in it. I went when it wasn't busy, so my food took less than 10 minutes to be ready. The people who were working there were super nice. I'll probably start eating there WAY more often, especially since winter is just around the corner! read more

I added some sriracha sauce, and it became amazing. The owner came out and ate at a table next to me, and he was very friendly. The price is decent enough with around $8 per bowl of pho. For all those people who try the fried rice or anything other than pho, I can't guarantee it'll be good. But don't go to a pho restaurant and not order pho. I was upset that my favorite coffee shop around campus, Cream Whiskers, closed but they still kept the cream puffs! The cream puffs tastes so fresh and delicious and serve as a nice, light dessert. So, I find this renovation of cream and whiskers to be a really smart move on whoever made the decision. We needed a quaint Vietnamese joint in Austin; and having this located right in the heart of west campus is so nice! I tried the chicken bahn mi as well as the crab rangoon. Honestly, the taste met my high standards. I've had good bahn mi's before, and for the price,size, and quality I would highly recommend this place! They have a intricate menu with a lot of options, and their ambiance is very inviting. I also ordered the crab Rangoons, which also did not disappoint.
