With Chow in Danville now closed Valley Medlyn's and Sideboard will become more regular stops. This is a hole-in-the-wall diner which locals like. Food is good for this type of venue. We had a chili, cheddar and tomato omelet. It was a tad bit more done than requested but flavors worked. To that we added grammas coffee cake and a cup of fruit. The overall experience was good. See service comments from other reviewers. The cafe doesn't have enough servers when they are busy so be prepared to put your football jersey on to tackle servers moving quickly down the isles. If you want a fast breakfast and the place is full then consider picking somewhere else. read more

My wife and I just visited Vally Medlyn's today for the first time for breakfast. Very hot inside no air conditioning. The food was good, but pricey for eggs and toast, hash browns and fruit. I ordered omelette it came with toast and hash browns. They charge extra for cheese. Beverages ordered were water and a latte. The check was hand scribbled without any price on it. So I had no idea if the check was correct. I paid $50.90 total with tip for breakfast mentioned above. The Latin waitress was very unfriendly and unwelcoming to my wife and I. We mentioned it was our first time but the staff did not acknowledge us. When I asked for receipt after paying, and my wife said to the waitress have a good day the waitress had an expression of scoff towards us. I would give it zero stars. I am so shocked to see that this breakfast gem has anything less than 5 stars. This family owned hometown breakfast restaurant has been in downtown Danville ever since I can remember. My family and I come here on any of our birthdays to start the day of celebrations with a birthday breakfast! We came a couple of weeks ago around 9am on a Thursday morning right around New Years when lots of people were still off for the holidays. To our surprise and luck, the joint was not too busy and we were seated right away. They have lots of options, ranging from scrambles to omelets to pancakes to biscuits and gravy to french toast to breakfast burritos to chicken fried steak! Their portions are huge so be prepared to have leftovers for the next morning :) I ordered a pancake stack (6) and they were absolutely amazing! The fluff was just right and the butter that they serve with the pancakes makes it 100 times better! Hubby is more of a pancake combo guy, and when he's hungry, he enjoys the Gold Special (four fluffy pancakes, eggs any way, and sausage). The one big downside to being the dependable family-run brunch restaurant in downtown Danville? There's no online presence. Hubby and I came in today (New Years Eve) around 12:30 PM. We went here to celebrate my birthday, after walking on the nearby Ironhorse Trail. This restaurant specializes in traditional American cuisine, ranging from omelets to waffles and pancakes for brunch, as well as salads and sandwiches for lunch. A rare find where breakfast (my favorite meal) is served all day. Food is made with fresh ingredients and perfectly prepared. The omelet had al-dente vegetables which were approximately proportioned to the amount of egg. I do wish the restaurant asked if potatoes or fresh fruit is preferred when ordering a veggie omelet though. The waffles were fluffy and had a generous serving of fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Service was friendly and quick, but we did need to reach out when we wanted coffee refills. Recommend arriving early, as starting around 10:00 a.m. there was a long wait for a table. We will definitely be back! read more

I am having breakfast at this place for a while and have nothing but good things to say about it. It's very simple place nothing fancy but food and service always good. A couple highlights... This morning I came in with my very old and sick dog. A young man (sorry I didn't check his name) was so kind and accommodating to us. He even offered to give my dog a turkey meat. My senior dog had bad night and didn't sleep as well as I am and this small kind gesture of young man made our morning brighter. A month ago I brought here my out of state friend. When she complimented how good their coffee was an older gentleman went inside and brought 2 packs of coffee to us. Although my friend loved her breakfast this gesture made to like this place even more. Later I found out he is the owner of this place. Good and kind humans own/work at this place. read more

We came to this restaurant for the first time today with our family after attending our 5 yr old grandsons last flag football game that they won. The wait was about 20 min., The food was very tasty and excellent. They serve generous portions. They were very busy and we were impressed because one of the gentlemen that works there handed our grandson a new little hot wheels car. They give out free dog treats for everyone in a large jar outside. The place is great but man the service and food are a 0. I get it I was there on Sunday and there was a 15 minute wait to still down. They were busy I get it. But 25 minutes to get my chicken guac sandwich; I ordered it keto style and I take a bite; it taste like nothing zero favor some of the bland guacamole I have had ever ate. So I open up my chicken as it's taste funny. It's legit PINK uncooked raw chicken. I put it down and ask to see a waitress. She ask if I want another one; I legit lost my apatite. I also didn't want to wait another 25 minutes for food. I took my family and the egg was fine My dad got the Waffles but it's just pancake mix in the shape of a waffle so disappointing. For a place that has been there for 60 + years I was super disappointed I wouldn't return. This is one of my standard go to places for a good hearty breakfast in my town. I am a total breakfast and brunch person, and this pace serves it up until they close at 3 pm. I usually come early to midday on the weekdays depending on my schedule, but the only time it gets super packed is on the weekend mornings/early afternoon. So I have not tried too many things here because I always get the french toast. Their french toast is probably some of the best I've ever tried. It beats Chef's Giant Burger's french toast as well as katy's korner and ihop. The french toast comes with three thick slices of I believe brioche bread cut into six triangles and topped with whipped butter and powdered sugar. The texture is perfect - a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The batter they use tastes delicious every single time. I always like a little variety so I usually get the combo with french toast, eggs, sausage, and if I'm hungry even some hash browns on the side. They give you a large portion of sausage links and hash browns and if I remember to ask for extra crispy hash browns they are perfect. I get my eggs over medium and they are always cooked perfectly with runny yolk in the middle. Overall one of my go to breakfast places. Only complaints I have is that its very tiny and seating is minimal, and it is not the cheapest place on the block, but they serve decent sized portions so its usually worth it to me. My husband and I went to breakfast yesterday, June 27, 2021. It was likely the worst meal and experience I have ever had. Menus and flatware were tossed on the table. When the waitress finally showed up, she spent a lot of time very loudly talking about her night out the night before with the man behind the counter as well as the favored "regulars" there. Her voice was so loud there was no escaping it. She finally took our order and it was timely served. As to the food, I have never had flavorless bacon. It was nasty. The eggs were fine but the hashbrowns were not good. I regretted this meal the entire day. I made a vow never to go back some 15 years ago and was reminded why yesterday. It was not just an off day and had nothing to do with COVID effects on restaurants. I knew it was more of a "greasy spoon" than a great breakfast place but it was almost $30 for just two breakfasts, no drinks or sides. HORRIBLE. I don't get the high ratings from others. Great staff and very honest. Been there only for breakfast and enjoyed the food and service. Waitress was able to substitute some items on the menu for me. Inside and Outside seating is also available now. My son dropped his wallet and couldn't find it for a few days and figured it was lost. After a few days staff called and they had found it under the booth with nothing missing. They were so nice and refused a reward or gift. We will definitely be going back. I lovveeee the food here. I drove from Concord to eat here. And these rice is super fast and friendly. This place get packed quick. But they always get everyone seated quickly. If it's a nice day. Sit outside. It's a great neighborhood. You can also have your doggie join you. I am not a pancake person. Never have been. But ohhh let me tell you about these fluffy clouds. Mmmmm delish. I have been coming here since 2009 and many of the family and staff have watched my kids grow up as we're regulars. The pandemic changed all of that. However, I'm happy to say that they've weathered the storm well and continue to remain in business. I really only come for one thing and that's my custom omelette plate. Valley does it the best around here. Well made hash browns to go with the meal, along with a stack of toast. The place is just a friendly hometown establishment that serves its community well. While we were waiting for our food is when we noticed how loud this place is... it was way too noisy for my ears. Dishes being slammed left and right. Utensils being dropped and the blender .... oh my god ... it was so loud. I asked to move to another table, but at this point my ears and appetite were done... The food arrived and it was okay... the burger tasted frozen, not fresh. The fries were okay... The service was decent and thus the 3 stars. I will give this place another try. read more

A Danville staple that I've never been to until today (what's wrong with me?!). Honestly, I'm a sucker for anyplace that has "coffee shop" in the name! Who doesn't just LOVE an old school diner serving up delicious breakfast food, sandwiches, burgers and salads??? When I go to a diner, I have "I'm at a diner" expectations and Valley Medlyn's met all of them. I love that they have a huge menu with TONS of breakfast choices. I love that they serve breakfast all day. I love that they serve hash browns over country potatoes (nothing against country potatoes--I'll eat those too! I just hate when they only serve them instead of hash browns i.e. Katy's Korner in San Ramon). Our service was sweet and attentive and the price was right. I have no complaints! Round up to 2.5 stars. Only because they really didn't mess up breakfast, well not completely. Me and my hubby decided to go outside of our norm and try Vally Medlyn's for breakfast. We normally go to Katy's Korner but decided we've tried most of the other breakfast places in downtown Danville and thought we'd give it a go. (Note, all of them disappoint except for Sideboards, thus far) I don't like change....and Vally Medlyn's validated why that's the case! There was a slight wait, which was fine, but the hostess (err, if you call her that) was ehh....no hello, no how are you....just "how many, name?" Uhm...good morning to you too sunshine. As we stood there watching them 'clean' off the tables (and not the floors as there were eggs and bread pieces left on the ground) I was a little irked they didn't do a better job wiping down the tables....eck! As my hubby's sugar level dropped, I knew we had to stick it out and just eat here.... We were greeted with a waitress...who just as chipper as the hostess and took our drink orders- 2 coffees...when it arrived, my cup was dirty, bleh and she only gave me 1/2 a cup of coffee...she was so attentive that she only poured half way before bringing my glass- given, I didn't want to wait another 5 mins for coffee...I drank my 1/2 cup of coffee. I ordered the bacon, mushroom, avocado omelet and my hubby ordered the steak and eggs. Given, the food was decent, nothing outstanding. I will say, they do give large portions...but if the food's not that great, who cares? We normally enjoy our weekend breakfast and eat the entire meal, but this time, we both had left overs, even though we were starving. My omelet was more like 4 eggs with bacon mushroom and avocado wrapped inside it....so as I cut into my egg burrito, everything came out. Normally, I like my omelet with my toppings mixed IN the omelet...not wrapped...ug! How can you enjoy every flavor if things come out? It took about 10 mins before I had to flag the hostess to take our check, so we could pay and get out of there.
