Wanting to try someplace new, we stopped here to grab a bite on our way down to Dave & Busters. We arrived at the same time as another couple and only had a five minute wait or so before we were sat. Our table was right at the entrance where the other couple was still standing. They wanted to wait for a booth, so we ended up chatting with them. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with spinach added and the sauce on the side. The lady standing said that's exactly how she orders hers! I'm not alone :) Our food arrived by the time a booth was opening. It had been quite a while and at this point the couple actually told the hostess they would sit anywhere. Two booths were open now and instead of rushing to get one cleaned for the two who had waited so long, the girl lollied about and they waited quite a bit longer. It was odd. Food was okay. Servings were pretty average sized; definitely not huge. I was surprised that my meal came with hashbrowns since the English muffin usually takes the place of toast or hash browns on Benedict orders. It was good - but kind of plain. My hasbrowns were extra crispy, which is how my husband had ordered his. His were not. He had a sausage plate and the sausage was pretty good but his eggs were definitely cooked longer than the Over-Easy he had ordered. An elderly couple came in as we were getting ready to leave and the hostess told them they could have the booth in the back. Unfortunately for them a baby started crying and the child's father asked if they could move to the booth in the back. They were moved and the elderly couple looked shocked. They actually said something to the girl seating them about their booth having been given away and she didn't even reply. Just started walking them to a table. It was again really odd behavior. Service wasn't great. My water was empty and never refilled and husband only had one refill on his soda. They were busy, but the place is tiny. It's not that hard to pay attention to people's drinks. $23 for our breakfast and it really wasn't that impressive. read more

Brunch place recommendation of our friend couple. Packed on a Sunday but 4 of us were willing to wait for an outdoor table sitting. We waited for 15-20 mins and finally gave up and decided to eat indoor soon a table got vacated, we were already starved. Service was quick , took our orders right away soon as we were ready, served us coffee while deciding what to eat. I had the NY strip steak, 3 eggs, hash brown and toasted bread served in a skillet. Its on of those places where the workers are so at home that it makes you feel at home. They are so down to earth and laid back. The best time to go is for brunch on a summer weekday. Not to busy, perfect weather, and a great view of all the dogs walking by. I got the ruben which was SOOOO good. The long-time waitress is always friendly, charming and efficient...and a real cutie, not that it matters. It's true that when the place is packed and every table blasting, service can slow down...but I'm not the kind of guy who dings a business for being busy. Food has always been good, from large omelets to basic oatmeal. As far as comments about snooty and pretentious, I haven't seen that from staff. Clientele, on occasion, but not the restaurant staff. So just a warning, it's rather hard to find off the street, look for the name on the glass window- and its small. The hubby and I took awhile to find this place because I thought it would be easy to see off the street. Its right next to rising loafer if that helps at all. Okay so it gets 4 stars, because the eggs benedict kicked ass!! Its so very nice when I can order my eggs benedict and they come out just right, and the sauce is tart but not gross. Big breakfast portions for a very decent price. I have been here twice for breakfast and I'm probably going to come back once I have a hankering for a hearty breakfast meal. There was an avacado, mushroom, bacon, spinach omelette on the menu. I asked if I could substitute Italian sausage instead of bacon and have it as a scramble instead of omelette. The serving size wasn't really what I was expecting for the price I paid. But I guess that's what you get when you go to fancy schmancy areas. I had the Medlyn's Scramble. Which was... interesting. It is apparently one of the "favorites" of the place. Its an egg scramble with cream cheese and spinach. I was expecting cream cheese chunks or maybe cream cheese spread on top like a little dollop of sour cream. But instead, it was combined into the egg mixture making for a strange texture, a little too soft for my taste. The flavor was good, but I'm all about texture. I tried to mix in my hash browns so I could get a little crunch in there. I kept seeing people order these huge milkshakes. Wish I had the stomach space to sample one, but with unseasonably cold weather, I opted for the hot coco. Service wasn't horrible. No complaints there. The atmosphere itself was pretty pleasant. Nice outdoor seating, booths and tables inside. Don't expect to come here with a party of 10 though and get seated any time soon. Might have to come back and give this place another try. Word to the staff: I really like eating at this restaurant however on my last visit I observed my server using her hands either to touch or scratch her nose. Because of the small size of this restaurant customers are always observing the staff while waiting for their food or table. You may be completely oblivious that you do things like this. Had breakfast here a couple of times. The 1st time we noticed a few flies buzzing around near the back of the restaurant. We decided to try it again because the breakfast was good and the service was OK. We were seated at the last booth, near the back of the restaurant. This time we were constantly swatting flies away from our food. I probably should have said something to our server but chose to just pay for our meals and not return. Service: The staff here is super nice and very hard working. They make sure that everything is going well with your table and don't rush you to finish your meal quickly. They are also super fast at making and serving your food. Food: The food here is AMAZING. Valley Medlyn's is my favorite breakfast/brunch place to go to because of their food. The portions are super big, so I often go and share a plate with someone else. Price: The price per order is pretty average, around $13. However, the portions are so big here that the food is definitely worth a bang for your buck. Seating: There is a lot of seating here, but definitely not enough for the number of people who come here. I've had to wait to get a seat before, but not for too long. I think the longest I've waited was 15 minutes, which isn't too bad for a Saturday during brunch hours. Parking: Since it's located in Downtown Danville, parking is sometimes hard to find. There is none located right next to Valley, but you could definitely find some a few streets over and walk. Overall: I love Valley Medlyn's. I only leave really great or really bad reviews. Unfortunately, valley Medlyn's was a terrible experience. Breakfast Food was okay 6.5/10. My mom ordered the spaghetti. They need to take it off the menu cuz it was terrible. She noticed mold on one of the breads. Not the end of the world right? We let the server know and her reaction was what ruined the experienced. She said, "oh we have fresh bread here everyday." No apology, and didn't take any ownership. Working in the food industry as a server and dealing with customers in my current career, this is unacceptable and a big time let down. My mom asked the server to bring her manager or owner, and she informed her that she was the manager and her uncle owns the establishment. My mom gave a piece of her mind, and then the server was apologetic. Had her reaction been sincere from the moment she saw the mold on the bread, I don't think I would be leaving a bad review. I hate to make a restaurant suffer with a bad review, but i hope it helps them in the long run. I have dealt with irrational customers in the past, and always know that the customer is right and I would apologize even if I felt that my restaurant did no wrong. Do not eat here no matter what. After putting our orders in, it took over 30 mins to get a simple 2 egg meal and a Denver omelette, Kitchen staff looked to be not listening to servers and messed up multiple orders. When our food finally came, and I'm not making this up, the first bite of my omelette contained a metal screw from their cooking equipment. I was very lucky not to chip a tooth from biting down on it. Server apologized profusely and the meal was free but there was no acknowledgment from the kitchen staff that let it happen. The staff here received their training/orientation in hell - as that's the only plausible place that could have service this atrocious. I travel extensively on business and in the last year i've been to well over 150 restaurants throughout the United States, from big cities like NY, to hole in the walls in the middle of Minnesota - and no where have I experienced such abysmal service. Let me set the scene for any of you folks foolish enough to consider patronizing this spawn of Hades: We arrive to the restaurant on a late Saturday morning. There were 2-3 empty tables outside and 3-4 inside. The tables inside were clear, the tables outside were piled with used dishes. The waitress/greeter appeared to be about 16 years old sporting at least 3oz of make-up on her face, shamelessly leaning over the counter flirting with a boy her age, who clearly wasn't there for the food. After standing in the doorway for several minutes without being acknowledged, I politely let her know my wife and I were going to take a few menus and sit outside. This is when the freak show began. First, we were told we were rude for interrupting her conversation and that she had seen us and that we'd have to wait for her to clear the tables outside before we could sit down, otherwise we'd be in her way. Uhhhh, okkkk Ms. Tude. So we waited and waited - another couple came in behind us and seemed a little shocked we were standing there when there were empty tables. He asked if we were waiting to be seated and I explained the situation to him. He laughed and thought I was joking and he and his wife sat down - only to be reprimanded by Ms. Tude for not waiting to be seated. He and his wife quietly got up and left. We like fools waited.... and waited - all while she continued her conversation with the future father of her children. At one point I actually took out my cell phone and hit the stopwatch feature as the whole spectacle actually became amusing. After 5 minutes on the stop watch - I told her we were leaving and that based on her attitude, she might want to take her job a little more seriously as it was likely going to be her long-term career path. Her response? "Well I was wondering how long it was going to take you to get the hint and leave, I wasn't going to serve you anyways." I'm sorry, but there's just no excuse or explanation for this - and shame on the owners for hiring such a nimwit (all the other employees spoke almost no english and were equally unhelpful). This place is going out of business - guaranteed. It's not a matter of if, but when. Rest assured, when this place goes out of business, i'll be the first to triumphantly inform Yelp to re-classify them. Join the fight against stupid people and poor service - boycott this place. read more

as i approached Valley, i remembered coming 6 months ago to get a cup of joe. it was late midafternoon. after i was served. the waitress refused payment, saying it was late and the coffee old. i thought it odd, thanked her and left. saturday, i saw a young lady exiting Valley. carrying a box of food with a cup of soup on top. the cup fell and the soup splaterred on the sidewalk she rushed backed in. got an apology from the cashier: "it's my fault" he said and replaced the soup. i was standing between the doorway and the cashier, not approaching since the space between tables was so narrow. i left plenty of room for the lady with the soup to exit. ordered a large cup of joe to go. noticed the cashier making a cup just for me. he handed it to me. i asked: "how much?" he said: "thank you. have a nice day". i noticed a waitress watching me and the cashier. i asked again: "how much?" he repeated: "thank you, have a nice day". i had a couple dollars in my hand, plucked down $2 on the top of the till and left. coffee was really good. smooth, bold, no harshness. sad they close at 3. may try the food someday. noticed some diners here are overweight. read more

Ok, so I again Yelped a place (for breakfast, this time) in Danville. Wow! I hate eggs... I asked for the country fried steak, no eggs, could I sub sausage(very picky about my sausage- as I had my horse near Lockford meats for near 2 years... No one does sausage like Lockford!), and could I get 1/2 a bisquit for toast...with gravy please... "uh, yeah, I like this whole bartereng for food thing" was my response from my waiter. To which i laughed and said I didn't mind paying an up charge To which I was not given! YAY! And he gave me a full order , full order of bisquits and gravy, Wow! Again! 21 bucks for that and a full order of fluffy french toast and a side of bacon! And an iced tea and OJ for the kid! The sausage...Awesome The bisquits.. Probably the best I have ever had, fluffy flavorful, even without gravy The gravy... Delectible! Very clean, and not greasy spoon at all! Plus the restroom was clean and flushed well for such an old updated place that was obviously remodled recently! It is right off the Diablo road exit, next to the bank, finacial planning place(?) sandwiched inbetween Rising loafer on the main strip.. Ok for sure. After walking around Danville doing a little window shopping, you can say I had worked up a bit of a hunger. I really did not want to spend much for lunch, so after walking by this place that had their reasonably priced menu presented out front, I decided my quick search for an inexpensive lunch had ended. The shop is quite small and cozy, with a decent amount of seating, though seems to be a bit cramped. I got a small table next to the eating bar and just about elbows away from the bar seats. Their menu has your standard mom and pop breakfast and lunch options to choose from ( they close at 2:00) I wanted something smaller in portion, though filling. I thought the Chili sounded great, so I got a bowl of chili ( you can order a cup or bowl) with red onions and cheese on the side. I also ordered coffee. Coffee arrived quickly, which turned out pretty good. Chili followed up shortly after looking quite delicious, though turning out to be just ok as far as taste goes. I did enjoy how fresh the onions were and how the overall presentation wise, it just turned out to be one of my least favorite chilis. Although it was not spectacular, I'm not complaining. Service was efficient and very attentive, and the prices are extremely pocket friendly. I would come back perhaps for an omelette. read more

A greasy breakfast with cheap orange juice. I am not from the area and so this was my first time there. My friend and I stopped in here on a whim, we actually got lost trying to find a place called Sideboard but never found it. It was crowded so we thought that was a good indicator of quality. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, went and took a nap because my stomach felt so heavy. My buddy got some pancakes and he had a better time than I did. The price was fine. I have been looking for a decent breakfast place since moving to Danville and low and behold...I was truly happy with the breakfast my love and I had here. One thing though-the coffee was pretty lame. Hot (which is a plus) big mug (another plus) diner and bad diner coffee...must be Peerless, but I didn't ask...Anyway, eggs with good bacon and great pancakes with AWESOME hashbrowns. Freshly grated, not greasy at all and just the right crunch on the outside and fluffy goodness on the inside. Next time, I am going to try an omelet for sure. I was so pleased with breakfast, I took a gander at the lunch menu and decided to take my parents here for lunch as they had an interesting looking scallop sandwich on the menu that I knew my Dad would be interested in. Here is the story... Scallop sandwich was fried scallops and not many of them on a roll. Dad said it was fair. I ordered a French Dip with extra crispy fries. Step-mom ordered chicken cobb salad. Salad she said was good. French Dip was the most bland French Dip I had ever had in my life. The meat was luke warm at best and had no flavor. Even the a jus(sp?) was warm brown liquid in a bowl. The fries (ordered crispy) came limp so I sent them back (yes, I am one of those...). All in all, I was bummed because I thought I had found my mecca for breakfast and lunch. On another note..for any of you who have ever waited tables...service here is good, but if you sit outside, tip the waitstaff well as the door to go between the inside/outside with your drinks and food has a handle and is hard for them to maneuver with hands full. We went to Vally Medlyn's yesterday for breakfast and found it to be very good. There were quite a bit of people waiting for tables, but we were still seated pretty quickly. I had the biscuits and gravy, which were quite good ... the biscuits were fluffy and the gravy was thick but not too thick and had a good flavor, with chunks of sausage in it. For five people, the bill worked out to about $50.00, which I thought was pretty reasonable. I would go here again. Good food. read more

Husband and I love going out to breakfast but our signature places were getting a little boring, so we decided to branch out in search of a new breakfast haunt. We found one at Vally Medlyns! I've heard this place has gone through a few owners lately, but the new ones have done a nice job making the restaurant look nice and clean. (Dont you hate how so many breakfast places seem to be coated in a thin layer of grease? Or is it jus me? Anyway this place was very clean when I was there so that is a major bonus for me.) The breakfast was a great value (french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon for $7.95) and not to mention very tasty. I haven't tried the eggs bene yet, but I saw one pass by and it looked good. Also the location is great for an afternoon walk through downtown. The only semi-downside is the service. Everyone is friendly, but they move slow and forgot a couple things that we asked for. Also be sure to make your presence known when you walk in or the hostess will not seat you. Bottom line: A cute little breakfast joint that serves good food for a good price in a clean atmosphere. Our waiter appeared to be hungover, never refilled our coffee or brought us the condiments we asked for. Halfway thru the meal, as my husband was thoroughly enjoying his eggs benedict, he started spitting and spewing forth food onto my plate. Before I could ask what all the comotion was about, I saw the egg shells hanging from his drool....EW! gross, there was an entire egg shell buried in his breakfast. He stopped eating and waited about 10 minutes for our waiter to come by so we could inform him that the dish was covered in egg shells, but by the time the waiter finally came, we just wanted to get out of there. Don't tell my friends at the other end of Hartz Ave, but this might be my new favorite breakfast spot in Danville. How did it take a year and a half for us to try it? The room is small and flanked with a dine-in bar, and it was full when we walked up at around 8:30a on this Sunday morning. There is also ample outdoor seating, but it wasn't quite ready for action at this time. We waited about 10 minutes for our table and it was worth the wait. I was prepared for a more pedestrian diner menu, but was pleasantly surprised with the selection. My Greek omelette was one of the best I'd ever had. I ditched the onions in place of some perfectly cooked grilled chicken which proved to be well matched with the olives, tomato, and feta. There also seemed to be a Greek seasoning that rounded it out without overpowering. It was huge, perfectly cooked, and amply stuffed. The hash browns had a golden brown and firm crust, just like I prefer. I came in well caffeinated, so I stuck with water but I understand that the house coffee was also good (always a plus in my book) My wife was similarly pleased with her omelette and the boys each found the kids menu to their liking. Service was prompt, friendly, and accommodating. I appreciated that our waitress coached us through some simple substitutions to accommodate our kids' preferences. Price was on par with other local options and well worth the price. This will indeed be a staple on our weekly breakfast rotation! read more

I've tried this diner several times and being a local, I'm always hoping the experience gets better. I had the gold special. Pancakes "ok", sausage good but eggs uneatable. My dad had French toast that he liked. Service poor and unfriendly. After serving the food, they did not come back even once to refill water and coffee or to check how the food was. Like others have said, the service is beyond lousy; it took a long time for us to order and receive our food, even though there were only a few other occupied tables in the restaurant. The waitress took the order of a party seated after us and was much more friendly to them just because they were regulars and we had to wait another 10 minutes for her to even come over to the table. She never stopped by again, except to deliver the check. The quality of the food has gone downhill, too. My belgian waffle was overcooked, but the strawberries were fresh. Came here on a whim even though we had reservations somewhere else right across the street. The homey, down-to-earth feel and the brunch menu choices attracted us. Plus, the place was pretty busy so it couldn't have been bad. Service was nice and friendly and our food came out quick. I opted for the California omelet, packed with mushrooms, cheese and big chunks of avocado. It also came with a generous amount of hash browns and two whole slices of toast. The meal could have been easily split between two people. I had a bit of the Joe's scramble, which consisted with plenty of spinach and meat. We also had an order of waffle, which was nice and crispy once it came out, but at almost $7, I think I can forgo it the next time. Because I don't eat eggs and am gluten free, I just ordered a side of hash browns and a side of Canadian bacon. The hash browns were sooooo oily and undercooked.
