Ordered delivery for lunch at work yesterday and everything was great. The order was correct, it got here quickly, and everything was delicious. This was my first time trying Velvet Taco and I definitely want to try more things on the menu.

One of our go-to places, it's a cool location right on the river. Usually not super busy, service is always good, and food is reliably tasty.

You can't go wrong eating at Velvet Taco. We have been to many and they never disappoint. Today we had the bowls. I had the Cali Shrimp bowl with all cabbage and my husband had the Chicken. Both were delicious.

Fantastic. Worth leaving the final four early to make sure these tacos were eaten before leaving town. Loved the fact that both traditional and fusion tacos were designed and executed to perfection. I had the brisket, spicy chicken tikka, and shrimp taco, and all of them were phenomenal.

Great experience with a few of my coworkers. I'm not a taco person so I has the rotisserie chicken bowl with rice, beans pico de gallo, and salsa. It comes with alvacado and cream but I requested not to include that. After they take your order you're able to take a seat and they call your name over the speaker. The time we went the speaker was broken so a gentleman brought our food out to us. My coworker ordered the brisket bowl which she loved--she said the brisket was super tender. The food was so good, we didn't want to go back to work. If we could've, we would've taken a nap. Recommend for large or small groups. Good food and service!

Patio dining on the San Antonio river

This was my first time dining at this location across the street from the Pearl. I'm a regular at the Rim location, but this was a central location to meet friends. Based on a map, I was fairly certain and hopeful that this location had patio dining on the San Antonio river, and it does!! There are seven large tables on the patio that can accommodate six people each with fans and under a LARGE tree that shades most of the patio - it's such an ideal and peaceful location (plus lots of indoor tables to sit at)! The food speaks for itself - Velvet Taco offers unique taco options you won't find elsewhere like chicken tikka tacos/bowl with white rice, chicken and waffle tacos and birria tacos that come two to an order along with two different queso and chips as well as guacamole and roasted corn that are perfect for sharing. Everything I introduced my friends to, they loved! Plus, we enjoyed adult drinks like a margarita and ranch water. I don't think you will find any other location along the San Antonio river with such reasonable prices. Service is walk up and order, then they call out your name on the intercom. I really love this location and will come back soon.

Love this place. The food is just well done, drinks are spot on. The service is great. They are very polite. We sat outside which is perfect this time of year. This is a definite stop when visiting the Pearl.

I mean just look at my pictures from my recent visits, they speak for themselves, everything is always great! The tacos are different in their own unit way. I get it they're not "traditional" so who cares if you got some wild combo in a taco form, it's a taco, they're not claiming to be authentic. That's what I enjoy about it, it's unique. You can go to a "Tex mex" big chain and get an asada taco for $5 and it be subpar when you can get one of these for the same price and better quality. Besides that rant, the service is great, staff are always nice! The interior is great, always great music playing. This last time I went; there was a big family with crying kids, that was the only thing that bothered me during my meal lol.

Service was great. Outdoor area is nice next to the water. Taco were just ok. I had shrimp, tikka chicken, and queso birra duo. Shrimp and chicken were very flavorful. I found the shell to be hard. I prefer the taco shell from La Fonda or other restaurants in the area. The pork shell was very hard and not a lot of pork in it. Overall for the price it was good.

Two tacos, and I am so full. The chicken and waffles have a mix of sweet, fried, heat, crunch. Great flavor mix. Wish the waffle Tortilla stood up better. The Korean chicken fried rice has a unique set of rice, chicken, cilantro, and pineapple. Be prepped cause it has serious eat even without the jalapeños. Super fast and friendly to go and at good price.

This was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised with the delicious food and amazing customer service. Sabrina was the sweetest and hooked us up with a free slice of cake for our first visit. The restaurant had a nice outside seating for us to enjoy our meal and look over at the river walk. I definitely will be coming back!

Came here twice in the last week, both times for lunch, once with coworkers and once with my wife. I've tried the Cuban, Brisket, Birria, smashburger and the chimichurri steak tacos, with sides as queso Blanco and the guacamole. Out favorite taco was the smashburger one followed by the cuban taco. All of them were freshly made, sides were yummy, and the lunch special for about $15 can't be beat. It does take a few minutes for your order to ve ready, however even with a good crowd, it moces fairly quickm The tacos are pretty large and two was enough for me. The place itself seems nice, has a good vibe, but the chairs are all metal and kinda stiff and noisy. Great for lunch and I will definitely come back!

GAME CHANGER! When…read moreI visit San Antonio Plantaqueria is an absolute must. I'm taken aback every time I walk into to this wonderfully positioned taqueria in downtown steps from the River Walk. The smells, the feels, the sounds- it'll set your senses on fire. It's ambience is nothing short of walking the streets of Mexico and stumbling across the best local food find there is- it's your lucky day. It doesn't end there, because I have yet to discuss the flavors that this place dishes out. If you can imagine that other taquerias in town as as good as mamma's cooking, Plantaqueria is grandma's cooking saying, " I taught them everything they know." The counter service, decor and neon lights transport you to a pueblo that you probably have no business being in but were fortunate enough to get lost in. I feel that the people working to advance this visionary concept are in love with what they do because you get that experience with every bite of fresh, homemade goodness, weather you dine in or take/order out. Dude, fresh corn and flour tortillas, C'mon, man!! And speaking of vision, the owner, Sofia, who looks like she would get IDd at a bar has created something truly unique and incredibly delicious. Plantaqueria has revolutionized modern, classical Mexican street cuisine. It's open 7am-7pm so you can literally have this all day and you might wish you did. Y'all need to get you some, and don't thank me, thank the purveyors of this Alamo City gem. P.s. I've brought my mom in to eat this stuff and she totally agrees!

(It had Just Egg but I think other things added with it. It felt that it was softer and lighter than if it was only Just Egg) and pico de gallo on handmade flour tortilla. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Their two self-serve complementary salsas were also fun and creamy. Concha- Delicious and we liked the top of it. Maybe one of our favorite conchas. Elote hot cake - Came out really hot and was delicious. These are only available on weekends. I was tempted to get more but we had lots more food targets on the schedule. Torta with Asada was pretty good too. But the other items excited me more I think. The person at the front also gave us some samples of other taco fillings to try: the fillings of the La Ranchera: Potatoes and pico de gallo in salsa ranchera and also grilled nopales. My husband who is usually not as crazy as me about nopales liked them here. They have mole on the weekends but it's not housemade from scratch. They use premade mole and add some more things to it so we skipped that one. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!

The kind of place where your stress, your diet, even your cruda takes a backseat. Now the food. No overthinking needed here. Everything coming out of that truck is a straight up pow pow of flavor. The carne is cooked just right, juicy with that perfect char, and the corn tortillas are legit, soft but with enough structure to hold everything together. I ordered the Mamón and the Chingón, and honestly, both lived up to the names. No misses. And the agua fresca de fresa? That sealed it. As a fellow citizen of H-town, we have a vibrant taco scene and I would put this place up there with some of my favorite spots I frequented in HOU. Each time I've been here, I've ordered between 8-9 tacos as they are each $2.50. I've gotten a combination of pastor, barbacoa, lengua, bistec, and cabeza. I can't really select a favorite cause they're all so delicious with the meats tender and juicy with a heaping sprinkle of onions and cilantro. Make sure you squeeze the lime on it and mix it with the radish/cucumber garnish they'll throw in there. And don't forget to throw on that green/red salsa they provide. Either eat there or get it to go (which is what I did). Fortunately the tacos travel well as they were still hot when I posted up at my hotel to grub. Don't be discouraged of the long line if you see one as it moves quick. You walk up and place your order, then pay afterwards. It's somewhat of an honor system but there is security present when I went there so that eased my concerns. For drinks, it's either soft drinks, water, or mineral water. No alcohol is served here so if you want margaritas/micheladas/beer, you'll have to go elsewhere for that. No doubt I'm returning next time I'm in SA. Viva Taquitos West SIDE!
