Delicious home made Red Velvet Cake (Yes!)
    Alma V.

Recommend: Yes. Velvet Taco is located by The Pearl, and while the parking can be a little tricky, it's absolutely worth it. As soon as you walk in, the space feels very open and spacious with plenty of seating. Everything was super clean, including the bathrooms, which is always a plus. The menus are easy to read and posted on the wall as well as at the register, and they clearly explain what comes in each taco. I went on a Sunday and had no problem finding seating. I tried the red curry queso, buffalo chicken taco, and the fish taco -- and wow. The queso was amazing with just the right amount of spice, and the homemade blue corn tortilla chips were incredibly crunchy. They paired perfectly with the queso... so much so that I couldn't stop eating them and ended up getting a second serving. The fish taco was hands down my favorite. It came on a flour tortilla with well-seasoned, crispy fish and cabbage that added even more crunch. There was a sauce on it that I couldn't quite identify -- it reminded me a little of curry at first, but finished with more of a tangy flavor. Whatever it was, it worked perfectly. The buffalo chicken taco was also really good. The chicken pieces were the perfect bite size, so every bite had chicken without being overwhelming. The buffalo sauce wasn't messy or dripping everywhere, and I believe there was a ranch-style sauce that balanced it out nicely along with some added crunch. Both tacos were great, but I would absolutely order the fish taco again. The service really stood out. Sabrina checked on me multiple times during my visit and provided excellent customer service. She asked if it was my first time at Velvet Taco. When I said yes, she surprised me with their red velvet cake and even packed it up to go for me. I took it home, and it was incredibly moist, rich, and full of flavor. It came with icing (which I didn't even need to try because the cake itself was that good). Overall, amazing food, clean and welcoming space, and outstanding service -- especially from Sabrina. I'll definitely be back.

Ordered delivery for lunch at work yesterday and everything was great. The order was correct, it got here quickly, and everything was delicious. This was my first time trying Velvet Taco and I definitely want to try more things on the menu.

One of our go-to places, it's a cool location right on the river. Usually not super busy, service is always good, and food is reliably tasty.

Never had a bad meal here and the food & velvet cake are pretty perfect. The service is exceptionally friendly even during the lunch rush. The atmosphere on the river walk is great, with a good view of the river. It was hot when we went but there's good fans blowing outside. Perhaps most important to my kids is the bathroom. Very clean. We'll be back.

You can't go wrong eating at Velvet Taco. We have been to many and they never disappoint. Today we had the bowls. I had the Cali Shrimp bowl with all cabbage and my husband had the Chicken. Both were delicious.

Fantastic. Worth leaving the final four early to make sure these tacos were eaten before leaving town. Loved the fact that both traditional and fusion tacos were designed and executed to perfection. I had the brisket, spicy chicken tikka, and shrimp taco, and all of them were phenomenal.

Great experience with a few of my coworkers. I'm not a taco person so I has the rotisserie chicken bowl with rice, beans pico de gallo, and salsa. It comes with alvacado and cream but I requested not to include that. After they take your order you're able to take a seat and they call your name over the speaker. The time we went the speaker was broken so a gentleman brought our food out to us. My coworker ordered the brisket bowl which she loved--she said the brisket was super tender. The food was so good, we didn't want to go back to work. If we could've, we would've taken a nap. Recommend for large or small groups. Good food and service!

Patio dining on the San Antonio river

This was my first time dining at this location across the street from the Pearl. I'm a regular at the Rim location, but this was a central location to meet friends. Based on a map, I was fairly certain and hopeful that this location had patio dining on the San Antonio river, and it does!! There are seven large tables on the patio that can accommodate six people each with fans and under a LARGE tree that shades most of the patio - it's such an ideal and peaceful location (plus lots of indoor tables to sit at)! The food speaks for itself - Velvet Taco offers unique taco options you won't find elsewhere like chicken tikka tacos/bowl with white rice, chicken and waffle tacos and birria tacos that come two to an order along with two different queso and chips as well as guacamole and roasted corn that are perfect for sharing. Everything I introduced my friends to, they loved! Plus, we enjoyed adult drinks like a margarita and ranch water. I don't think you will find any other location along the San Antonio river with such reasonable prices. Service is walk up and order, then they call out your name on the intercom. I really love this location and will come back soon.

Love this place. The food is just well done, drinks are spot on. The service is great. They are very polite. We sat outside which is perfect this time of year. This is a definite stop when visiting the Pearl.

I mean just look at my pictures from my recent visits, they speak for themselves, everything is always great! The tacos are different in their own unit way. I get it they're not "traditional" so who cares if you got some wild combo in a taco form, it's a taco, they're not claiming to be authentic. That's what I enjoy about it, it's unique. You can go to a "Tex mex" big chain and get an asada taco for $5 and it be subpar when you can get one of these for the same price and better quality. Besides that rant, the service is great, staff are always nice! The interior is great, always great music playing. This last time I went; there was a big family with crying kids, that was the only thing that bothered me during my meal lol.

Service was great. Outdoor area is nice next to the water. Taco were just ok. I had shrimp, tikka chicken, and queso birra duo. Shrimp and chicken were very flavorful. I found the shell to be hard. I prefer the taco shell from La Fonda or other restaurants in the area. The pork shell was very hard and not a lot of pork in it. Overall for the price it was good.

    Chicken and waffles
    Doretta W.

Two tacos, and I am so full. The chicken and waffles have a mix of sweet, fried, heat, crunch. Great flavor mix. Wish the waffle Tortilla stood up better. The Korean chicken fried rice has a unique set of rice, chicken, cilantro, and pineapple. Be prepped cause it has serious eat even without the jalapeños. Super fast and friendly to go and at good price.

We were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Their two self-serve complementary salsas were also fun and creamy. Concha- Delicious and we liked the top of it. Maybe one of our favorite conchas. Elote hot cake - Came out really hot and was delicious. These are only available on weekends. I was tempted to get more but we had lots more food targets on the schedule. Torta with Asada was pretty good too. But the other items excited me more I think. The person at the front also gave us some samples of other taco fillings to try: the fillings of the La Ranchera: Potatoes and pico de gallo in salsa ranchera and also grilled nopales. My husband who is usually not as crazy as me about nopales liked them here. They have mole on the weekends but it's not housemade from scratch. They use premade mole and add some more things to it so we skipped that one. I'm taken aback every time I walk into to this wonderfully positioned taqueria in downtown steps from the River Walk. The smells, the feels, the sounds- it'll set your senses on fire. It's ambience is nothing short of walking the streets of Mexico and stumbling across the best local food find there is- it's your lucky day. It doesn't end there, because I have yet to discuss the flavors that this place dishes out. If you can imagine that other taquerias in town as as good as mamma's cooking, Plantaqueria is grandma's cooking saying, " I taught them everything they know." The counter service, decor and neon lights transport you to a pueblo that you probably have no business being in but were fortunate enough to get lost in. I feel that the people working to advance this visionary concept are in love with what they do because you get that experience with every bite of fresh, homemade goodness, weather you dine in or take/order out. Dude, fresh corn and flour tortillas, C'mon, man!! And speaking of vision, the owner, Sofia, who looks like she would get IDd at a bar has created something truly unique and incredibly delicious. Plantaqueria has revolutionized modern, classical Mexican street cuisine. It's open 7am-7pm so you can literally have this all day and you might wish you did. Y'all need to get you some, and don't thank me, thank the purveyors of this Alamo City gem. P.s. I've brought my mom in to eat this stuff and she totally agrees!

The smell alone made me think we were in for something special. We grabbed a couple of cocktails and ordered tacos, which seemed like the obvious choice. The tacos were good, but that's about where I'd leave it. They weren't bad at all, but they also weren't particularly memorable. With the aroma coming from the grill and all the recommendations I'd heard, I was expecting a little more flavor and a bigger wow factor. The atmosphere was fun, the service was good, and the charcoal grill definitely adds to the experience. I just found the food itself to be more "solid" than "spectacular." I'd rate it about a 7 out of 10. Worth trying if you're already at El Camino, but not a place I'd go out of my way for.

Pulled up on a Friday late night with my family ordered the standard 5 tacos. They are a bit pricey as well. I ordered the carne Asada and my mother in law ordered the chicken. While it did seem like it tasted good it was super greasy. (TMI coming up) When I woke up the next morning my I noticed my bowels were literally moving the next day, (I counted about 9 times). I felt bloated and everything. My wife even told me that as we were pulling off she witnessed the cook I believe his name is Julio eating some of the product while he was preparing peoples food (the side door of the food truck was open so you could see right in). Funny enough we decided to go back Saturday evening to give them another try, thinking it would be better, BOY was we wrong. I ordered the same order plus charro Beans, elote (corn in a cup) and 3 cans of sprite. This time we took literally one bite and the meat was DRYER than the Saharan desert both the carne asada and the chicken. (Tasted like some reheated old meat or meat that had been made days prior). We were already at the hotel at this point and was infuriated!!! We ended up calling and I believe I spoke to Julio (or whoever the cook is) over the phone. After lying saying that he cooked the meat fresh that day he stuttered I told him aint no way the meat was fresh. He then said and I quote " I cooked the meat "a couple days ago" then said "sorry I burnt it or overcooked it". (Knowing that why would you serve that to me?) I then stated "yes it tasted old period". I requested a refund in which he agreed to. Driving all the way back I brought the food back as well. Julio (or whoever the cooks name is) tried to plead his case to me saying that the meat is fresh and took a fork and tasted the food himself and then tried to offer me the food. I told him "no I don't want to taste it, just refund me please" in which he did. Dishonesty, Not handling food with care, lying. Is something that crosses the line and I won't be back. *Also if the owner is reading this I have the phone conversation recorded and the video evidence to show proof this whole interaction, so do not just glaze over this review* I don't like writing bad reviews, but this one is for sure warranted. Seems like they will dress up the taco and selling you some "old meat" people just be careful and mindful when coming to this taco truck. "The Earths Best Taco" they say... that's a stretch!
