Through both his actions and words, Dane (the namesake and owner of Vick's Expertune) has proven to be an exemplary person to work with. Initially, I brought my car to him with several mechanical issues that he quickly got working on. He was even able to get the work done before the weekend when he originally told me it wouldn't be done until Monday. However, when it came to the bill the cost of the work, there was an additional charge for labor on my invoice that he had not previously included in his estimate. I left a Yelp review expressing my frustration with this after paying for the work and picking up my car. That same day I left the review, Dane called me from his personal cell phone after hours and offered to remedy the situation in any way he could. He was humble and forthcoming when admitting his mistake, and never showed any signs of trying to sell me something I didn't need. Throughout the entire process of working with him, I was consistently impressed by his communication skills and eagerness to give me updates on the status of the work being done. Short version: One word for this place- Genuine. They are honest. The owner is a family man, not a salesman. He is great at what he does and his team has been at it a long time. Dane did not try to upsale, and they only provided additional information if I opened the door to it. You can trust these guys. My experience from start to finish: I called Firestone just for an inspection and oil change. The woman who picked up didn't greet me, and when I asked about a wait time she said "we ain't do no appointments for inspections. You'll see when you get here". Not joking. So I went straight to Yelp to find a new place. And here it is. I called over to Vick's and told the guy who answered the phone how I had a history of bad experiences with a simple oil change talking 2 hours at Multiple places, and the guy tells me "let me patch you over to my boss, one moment". Dane, the owner picks up. He empathized with me about my bad experiences, let's me know he will take care of me no problem, and sets me up with an appointment for a few days later. I was immediately impressed with how sincere they were, and I hadn't even arrived yet. Do NOT judge this place by its appearance. When I drive up on the day of my appointment, I got a little worried. The place seemed small on the outside, nothing flashy, and looked old. The waiting area wasn't anything fancy but the seats were surprisingly comfortable! Free bottled water, coffee, and wi-fi greet you. My complaint before coming was waiting a long time for simple stuff. 30 minutes in, I start getting upset nobody has come to speak to me yet and I'm getting ready to right a 2 star review for this place. Dane walks in, greets me by name, and sits down across from me in the waiting area. He is EXTREMELY friendly and nice. He looks me in the eyes and says "we're just now getting to your car. I want to let you know this is not normal for us. My goal is to get you in and out in 30 minutes and I really apologize for the wait." I tell him "it's okay, no worries!" Already starting to feel better from how genuine he is. He says "well no, it's not. I really apologize, I know nobody likes to wait. We'll get you taken care of in no time" Instead of leaving me there, we talk. And there's not a single awkward moment! He answers every question I've ever had about cars, we laugh and exchange stories about driving, and he is just overall great company. I was very impressed. They had me out of there in no time, and when I asked he gave me great advice about my car. I will definitely be coming back. read more

they were hands down the most responsive, helpful, and reasonable repair shop I've come across in Austin. I am moving several hours away on Saturday which gives me very limited time to get my car fixed and they were ready to go at a moments notice with every single part I needed. They quoted me over the phone and told me exactly what to expect. Their prices were significantly better than 99% of places I called into and the turnaround was absolutely insane. My AC system needed a major overhaul and every other shop said it'd take a 4-6 days to get parts in and do the work. Vick's did it in 2 hours for almost half the price and with amazing quality and transparency. They even brought me back into the shop to meet the guy who did the work and show me what they did because they were so proud of the work they did. 11/10 stars read more

My wife's truck needed inspection and and the place she usually goes to wouldn't even answer the phone. I don't know maybe they are closed because of the pandemic but no answer is no answer. She told me of her frustration and I said "What about Vick's?" It wasn't really a question it was the answer! She was gone less than an hour and stopped at HEB and picked up her new sticker on the way home! I haven't had to take my car to a shop for years due to having a certified "in-house" Toyota technician do all my service for me at well below market pricing. Times have changed and I have found a new home to get my routine maintenance done...Vick's Expertune! Dane is probably the friendliest person you'll meet this year, and he will do the work you want at a fair price. Fear of up-selling? Not here. Not down w the man? It's a mom and pop shop that shoots from the hip. They have a nice waiting room with a table and free WiFi, coffee, water and a heater for those "Austin Blizzard Icemageddon" days. Found this place via Yelp and I couldn't be happier! Extremely professional and courteous and amazingly nice the whole way through. The gentleman at the front desk was knowledgeable and down to earth. We will be taking all of our cars here from now on. Excellent service and prices. My friend referred me to Vick's and I'm glad I took his referral. My car needed several things fixed. The abs pump, two motor mounts, and the stabilizer bar replaced. My car was fixed in about two days and they saved me $1,000! If I would of taken it to the dealership it would of been a thousand dollars more. They even have a certified mazda tech working there. He was very honest and explained everything to us. I will be going back again if my car needs anything fixed. read more

My boyfriend always raves about this place, and I recently woke up to a flat tire. So I brought it to Vick's. I did not call ahead, I did not know to expect at all, I was completely stressed. I walk in, everyone is as kind as can be. I hang out in the waiting area. Next thing you know, it was maybe 30 mins, I'm paying $16.00 for a patch job. $16.00 SO AFFORDABLE. I was through the moon. I'm new in town and chose this place based on the great online reviews. They were all correct. I needed to fix an exhaust leak and the owner explained everything very clearly to me. He's very friendly and takes the time to get to know you and make sure you understand everything and are comfortable with what you're paying. I was present while they were working on the car and both the mechanics and the owner brought me over to show me what they were doing and all the steps involved. They even went out of their way to fix a few more details so the car ran perfectly. This is one of the very few times in my life as a woman I haven't had a gut feeling that I'm being ripped off by mechanics. These guys are LEGIT. Took my car in on 2/10/17, for a Timing belt and Water pump replacement. Knowing its a Long Labor job, they were not able to finish it that day, so instead of waiting until Monday to get my car back, i instead got my car back on the NEXT DAY.. When they are scheduled to be CLOSED!!!!!. I just want to give a special Shout out to Robbie for Taking his time and finishing the Job on a weekend, instead of putting it off until Monday, That's something i have never experienced at other Auto shops... We recently had my fiance's car fixed here upon a friends' recommendation and had a great experience. He needed many things done, a new clutch, some belts and other things that I know nothing about, but when all was said and done it was very expensive, but the owner was very understanding and helped us out with a payment plan. Also, we were expecting this work to take forever to get done, a new clutch alone is a very involved job, let alone all the other repairs. We are so used to having to wait forever to get the car back. It was done THE NEXT DAY and they called us to let us know we could come get it. We didn't even have to wait around for their call. When we got there, the car was still driving funny, but the owner was very nice and thoroughly checked it out for us. He told us that it was actually the gears, that were wearing out and was honest and told us that it wasn't worth replacing them at this point. The car was safe to drive and that we shouldn't waste our money. It's an honesty you don't often find these days. After going here, I won't go anywhere else. I highly recommend them! read more

I was in town visiting my mom for Thanksgiving and I wanted to get her an oil change on Black Friday. I called around and most places were booked up. Vicks was also booked up but still got me in. This was the best service I have ever had at a mechanic. They fit my moms car in and completed the oil change quickly. They were also the most friendly and polite people ever. I am new to Austin and I needed an oil change. I had no idea who to trust with my car. I don't have the time or resources to handle a major car repair as a result of an error. I found this place on Yelp. I called them and asked if they had time to change my oil. The man on the phone was thorough, friendly, and explained that his staff will know what kind of oil to put in my car. I took my car in for an oil change that same day. The waiting room was nice. The owner was nice. The oil change was correct. I had no issues with my car after the work was completed. I am so happy I found my local mechanic. Finally found a locally owned and operated shop whom I trust to work on my vehicles. I have some experience doing repair work and have every reason to believe that these folks will take care of me. I've only been in for oil changes and inspections so far (hint: make an appointment). Best $25 basic oil change in N Austin if you've got the time (it's a full service shop so you may be waiting a little longer than at a lube shop). And they don't torque the **** out of your drain plug bolt either, like some of the chain lube places. The shop can be a little hard to find - the map on their website doesn't show the little cut to the north you have to take to get to the 'access road', so map it on your computer or phone. The doors aren't labeled that well - they are in one section of a very long building. Usually their garage door is open; the office door is to the south of it and the waiting room door to the north. I think there may be free coffee in the waiting room; not sure as I'm not a coffee drinker and didn't notice. IIRC there was bottled water free. read more

I went in after, shamefully going about 20k miles without getting oil changed. They were so friendly and helpful, that I will only be taking my car there from now on. The price was $10 dollars cheaper than anywhere else I have gone to get my oil changed. My car requires a special filter and expensive oil. So I was happy when he told me the price. He even offered me an ice cream!! I love small locally owned companies and try my best to use them whenever possible. read more

Excellent customer service. I spoke with Dane, the owner, on the telephone earlier in the week and he was very personable. I met his son on Saturday when I took my car in for the safety/emissions inspection required for the annual vehicle registration. These guys are super! Open on Saturdays which is great when you work M-F and can't take off work to get stuff done. The business has a nice little waiting room with coffee, water, TV, and comfortable chairs. I had barely brewed my coffee and added cream/sugar to it when the guys were done with the inspection, so I asked them if they could fit in an oil change (unscheduled, on a Saturday, mind you). They did, and in less than 15 more minutes everything was done and I was out the door. Very quick, great prices, and polite too. What's not to love about this place? read more

Talk about not judging a book by its cover! I was a little hesitant to give this place a try but the numerous positive reviews here convinced me to give Vick's a shot for an oil change. Boy, was I impressed! The guys were all very friendly and open about what needed to be done and what it cost. They made sure I was comfortable while they were taking care of my truck and kept me in the loop about everything. It was great! I was dreading the thought of having to replace 4 tires on my car after shredding two after hitting a pothole in South Austin, especially during the week of Christmas. I was looking on Amazon for the best deal on tires, and after adding some really nice Michelin tires to my cart Amazon suggested letting a local company install them for me. Vick's Expertune was listed after entering in my zip code. After reading about how Amazon certifies local businesses to sell services on their website and plenty of great reviews on here I purchased the 4 Tire Install service through Amazon. This was such a relief cause I didn't have to immediately pay out of pocket to get my tires installed, money is pretty tight during the holidays! I was immediately contacted by Dane, and he offered plenty advice and info on what the service covers, and even what tires are the best. This guy is about as sincere and nice as it gets. I scheduled ahead of time so I could immediately take my car in once the tires were delivered to my house. I took my car in this morning and was met by his son, who helped me get everything going. I left to get breakfast and by the time I got back they were finishing up the tire install and a free oil change that they had a coupon for on their website. I also got to meet Dane, and the guy really is as professional and courteous in person as he is over the phone. Dane was the most helpful and knowledgeable car guy I have ever dealt with, super courteous crew too. Most mechanic shops are run down, sketchy, and you are there because you have to be. Luckily with Vick's it isn't a bad experience. Dane, the owner, is very friendly and will work with you to get you car working. I've been coming here for two years to service my accord; everything from oil changes to "my car won't start" and every time Dane has taken care of me. His prices are fair and I haven't had any issues with the work to date.
