    a drink and a cucumber

Spent the night here on the way to Denver, were hoping for a nice dinner at a decent restaurant, unfortunately they didn't have the staff needed to open the kitchen. Although, they had some sandwich and deli options available and the bartender was sublime, creating makeshift drinks on the spot with quality liquor! We had a great night, thanks Tyler!

Vida is the new restaurant located in the new DoubleTree Hotel on 72nd & Grover. I had stopped in a month or so ago to take a look at the menu. It was fairly basic mexican food, and what stood out in my mind was the 3 crunchy tacos they had for $5. Decided to finally stop in to try them. To my surprise the menu was entirely different, in fact the waitress said it was their 4th menu since they opened. The 3 crunchy tacos for $5 now changed to 2 "puffy" tacos for $10. They also added in many other food options such as meatloaf, reubens, pork chops, brisket, shrimp, etc. All over the board food items. The restaurant is kind of divided into two areas. One area was completely full of diners. It appeared to be some type of special event. The side we were on was fairly full as well. Our waitress was awesome. Very quick to attend to us considering in addition to waiting the guests on this side of the restaurant she was also running room service!! Ordered a margarita that was very tasty! I decided on the brisket tacos with pickled onion. While the pickled onion was interesting and I kind of liked it, I did not like it on my taco. The brisket was chopped into little pieces and appeared to have been fried resulting in dry chewy chunks of brisket. I didn't eat much of it. My dining partner opted for the "puffy tacos" which to our surprise were made out of fried pita bread. Not sure if they fried it too long but it honestly had no taste and basically crumbled when taking a bite. To me it just tasted like fried burnt bread. They came with rice and beans, and I thought the beans were creamy and good. The salsa that came with it had little taste and little spice. The restaurant itself is very nice so I may come back to try something else, or maybe I'll wait for the 5th menu! :-)

    Great craft beer selection

We stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton on our way from eastern Illinois to central Nebraska and found this perfect bar for a few craft beers. After a long day on the road, Vida and Misty, the most knowledgeable bartender I've ever met, made for a perfect end to the day. This is a new bar and restaurant and well worth the stop.

Food and service was very poor. Waited 20min for drink, and another 20 to take our order. Goto Burger King instead.

Adventurous menu, good staff, nice ambiance. I'd probably stop here again even if I wasn't staying at the Doubletree .

Wanting a casual place to eat, we cruised down 72nd St. to Firehouse Subs. The inside is bright,…read morecheerful, and full on firehouse decor. The giant picture of a fire and firefighters draws the eye. Not sure what the little demon-like critter with horns was about, though. The black and white spotted tables are an homage to Dalmatian dogs. Unfortunately, the first three tables we chose were not clean, and two others had major issues with wobbly bases. However, there were a lot of empty tables so we found a clean, not tippy one. The wispy-voiced worker came around shortly after to wipe them. We perused the takeout menus then headed to the counter to order: side salad with mac and cheese for me and while Bookguy chose a hero sandwich with potato soup. The salad was disappointing because much of the lettuce was core pieces and a bit rusty. It was basic with a couple of tomato bits, green pepper and a sprinkle of cheese. The mac and cheese was just okay, with very mild flavor but creamy. I would not get either of these again. Bookguy really liked the flavor of his sandwich; it had a sweetness from the honey ham but also included turkey, roast beef, provolone cheese, and lettuce. He didn't like the soup that well, it was very thin, with not much flavor, but said the sandwich was good enough to get again. He would have liked it to be a bit hotter. The menu has a lot of options, so I predict a second visit.

Just across the street from the furniture plaza, and next to the old big lots, Firehouse Subs is like an elevated subway. It's about the same price as subway too. I love a warm sandwich and they're all toasted, to perfection. I loved the turkey sub, and ofc the pickles. We split some chips and I was able to return to my regular happiness after the hangry subsided.

Everett's is a solid ten! At least that's what I would give them if I could. We had heard about…read morethem and were very excited to try. I'm sure everything on the menu is good, but we came here for wings and boy did they deliver. The house brined wings are Fantastic. We did the extra hot bubba, which is their extra hot sauce fried then grilled In garlic Parmesan, which was so juicy and flavorful and kicked the heat to a perfect amount where it was flavorful but not overbearing. We also did the cactus ranch, which is the medium hot sauce tossed with cactus ranch seasoning, also tried it grilled. Another solid selection that provided a nice amount of heat and flavor. Both were so amazing I can't even say which one I liked more or which one was hotter. The wings are huge, juicy, and came out well-sauced. I filled up after five of mine (my husband tackled them all) and took the rest home. I don't know how to say best wings in Omaha, since I don't live there and haven't tried enough places, but these were some of the best wings we have EVER had, period. And we get wings almost everywhere we go. Also---the hand-cut (you heard me) fries aren't to be passed up on. We tried with the garlic aoili, so good, and a huge basket for $6. Our server was great. They are always busy, so give them some grace. We came during late lunch, got lucky and got seated right away, and it was still a revolving door of people, tables don't sit empty for long. They don't take reservations, and I understand why. They have limited space and when full, you sign up on the Board, there is a bar next door you can also receive a buzzer and go have a few drinks while you wait. This place is definitely worth the wait and we will repeatedly be back when we make it up to Omaha.
