We visited Bodega on a Tuesday evening without a reservation, so we arrived right before opening…read more Luckily, we were able to grab two seats at the bar. Sitting at the bar ended up being the perfect choice. Service was quick, and the bartender was attentive and readily available throughout the night. We ordered a couple of drinks, several dishes, and dessert. For drinks, we tried the Banh Bo Gimlet and the Bodega Old Fashioned. The Banh Bo Gimlet was slightly sweet but refreshing, with a nice pandan flavor coming through at the end. The Bodega Old Fashioned was strong and tasty, although I didn't pick up much of the pho spice. For food, we ordered the Banh Khot, Bun Cha, Crab Fat Fried Rice, and Bo Luc Lac. For the Banh Khot, you can choose one piece with caviar for $16 or three pieces without caviar for $15. We opted for the three-piece order, and it was delicious. The exterior was perfectly crispy, although I wish it came with some nuoc mam on the side. The Bun Cha was our favorite dish of the night. The meatballs and pork belly were incredibly flavorful, especially with the fish sauce. The Crab Fat Fried Rice was also really good and came loaded with scallops. The other proteins were a little harder to identify, but the flavors reminded me of Chinese salted fish and chicken fried rice. The pickled long beans added a nice texture and balance to the dish. The Bo Luc Lac had an incredible depth of flavor. Paired with the sauce served on the side, it was chef's kiss. The bartender also offered us their Thai chili hot sauce, which went really well with the dish. The pearl onions were cooked perfectly, and a bite with all the components together was fantastic. My only complaint was that we ordered the beef medium rare, but it came out closer to well done. Although the meat was still tender, the texture was softer and slightly grainy, which wasn't my preference. For dessert, we ordered the Pandan Mochi Bar. The mochi bar is like a butter mochi. It was warm and topped with lychee gelato from Marco Polo. It was simple but satisfying. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Bodega. The food was thoughtful and flavorful. We'll definitely be back. Next time, we'd love to try their lunch menu.

Restaurant is very clean, and service is quick (almost too quick where the food started coming all at once and the drinks were nowhere to be found). - Banh Cuon - 10/10 one of my go-to dishes - Gao Roll Sampler - easy to share with a group, would skip next time - Banh Khot - first time getting it last time and it was excellent. would get again - Shaking Beef - beef is super tender. definitely get this over the garlic noodles + beef - Vermicelli Bowl - classic, would skip for one of their other dishes - Bun Cha - would choose this over the vermicelli bowl - Pho - I didn't get it last time I was there, but the pho broth is very rich and delicious. it's hard to share, but split amongst 2-3 people, you can make it work

The only downside this time was that they've trimmed down their menu. My favorite sea snails were no longer available. Staff mentioned they had too many items before and decided to narrow things down. On the bright side, they still have our favorites: soft-shell crab tomato noodle soup, brisket beef pho, papaya salad, and rice rolls. Overall, the food was tasty. The only miss was the rice rolls--the skin was slightly broken, possibly from being pre-prepped or a small issue with the rice flour ratio. Otherwise, service was great and the space is cozy and enjoyable.
