Good, clean, solid Vietnamese food in a clean, inviting space. My first time so all I had was the chicken with vegetables, which was fresh, tasty, if a bit underseasoned for my palate (the sauces on the table helped perk it up). The location in a little cramped strip mall on Gravenstein Highway (116) is probably not the best but easy to get to if you know VH is in there. THE GREAT NEWS is that they are considering offering banh mi, which would fill a glaring hole in West County. I've tried several places in SR and none are that great. So, if you get a chance to try Viet House, please encourage them to do a banh mi trial, even if it's just a day or two a week to test the market. read more

Located in Sebastopol's old Bowling Alley, both indoor and outdoor seating. The service is great and very fast. My favorite are the Bun Bowls, with either crisp BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp or beef rolls or any combination of these. Served over a crisp bed of shredded lettuce, rice noodles, bean sprouts & carrots, with a small separate serving of fish sauce. Excellent. The peanut Chow Fun is also very tasty. I had a great first experience here tonight. The seafood pho was delicious and is a good portion. The service was extremely attentive and the people were very friendly and warm. I also liked the ambiance. It felt very clean and comfortable. They have a small bar area with a large TV and a nice outdoor area too making the place very well balanced. Great flavor however horrible service. Had to ask for my drink several times. Ordered lettuce wraps and lettuce came frozen, asked for another plate of lettuce and that was frozen as well. Gave up and just ate what was meant to stuff the lettuce with. It's a shame the service and attention to detail was forgotten cause the food was actually decent. read more

This place is very clean and the atmosphere is calm and comfortable. The staff is super friendly, polite and helpful. We love the food because it is not so overly spiced that all you can taste is the spice. You can actually taste the broccoli and even the summer squash was very flavorful so it had to be very fresh. I'm not familiar with Vietnamese food so I can't compare to other restaurants but everything I've tried has been simply delicious, fresh and healthy. When we order to go, it is always ready when we get there in about 10 minutes. I don't think the prices are any higher than the other restaurants in town. I hope they stay in business for a long time because it has become my favorite place for lunch. I'm very surprised by any less than 5 star review and the reviewers reasons seem like they are talking about an entirely different place than we have experienced. read more

We discovered this new Vietnamese restaurant in February, and we've already eaten there 4 times - all of them excellent! The place has a very clean, bright, modern feel and it is spacious enough so there hasn't been a wait, even on Valentine's Day. The menu features traditional Vietnamese dishes using top-notch ingredients like Kobe beef, filet mignon (beef pho broth), good quality seafood (shrimp, calamari), and very fresh vegetables. I'm a vegetarian, so I didn't actually try any of the meat dishes, but my dining mate partook in the beef pho and found it exquisite. (I will add that I respect their choice to use high quality meats!) The food just tastes good quality and healthy here... I can not say enough about the vegetable pho broth!!!! Many Vietnamese restaurants do not even have a veg broth, or it is a weak/sketchy substitute. Lua Viet's is DELICIOUS - definitely on par if not exceeding in rich flavor with the meat broths (and they are willing to do the seafood pho with the veggie broth for those vegetarians who also eat seafood - nice touch)! The veg pho comes with tofu and delicious vegetables (not overcooked!) including tasty broccoli, carrots, zucchini, onions, and greens (kale, I believe! - also unusual and wonderful!) - and of course the rice noodles and all of the pho fixins' like fresh jalapenos, basil, bean sprouts, and lime. I don't know if they make it there, but I've never seen/tasted chili sauce like this before... a must try. The smaller bowl pho size will definitely fill any reasonable adult, but it's nice to get the huge bowl and take some home for lunch the next day - it's almost just as good. And then there is the chili sauce! I am usually a huge fan of sriracha, but there is another chili sauce in a bottle on every table at Lua Viet - it is DELICIOUS. I can not overstate how delicious this sauce really is. I add it to my soup by the tablespoon full. I should also mention that the spring rolls are a perfect light, fresh appetizer - both the tofu and the shrimp are great and I like how they're styled with the lettuce "tail." I prefer to eat mine with the aforementioned chili sauce on the table - yum! The perfect warm-up to a pho feast! Perhaps other of the dishes are also fabulous... we've just wanted the pho and spring rolls every time we've come here because they are that good. I also want to mention how lovely all of the people that work here are! - from the wait staff to the friendly cooks in the back, we've had a great experience every time we've eaten there. We got there at 8:40pm last Sunday night after a long hike, very hungry for dinner and realized that Lua Viet was closing a little early (they usually close at 9pm, but that's so common for Sebastopol as we all know). All of the chairs were stacked and it looked like they had closed down the kitchen... but when they saw our (hungry child in tow) disappointed faces, the manager(?) immediately started taking the chairs off of a front table to accommodate us and welcomed us to eat - it was such a kind (and merciful) gesture! We wanted to inconvenience them as little as possible, so opted for take-out - which was the same steaming and heaping portions. They warmly took our order and fired the kitchen back up. We were SO APPRECIATIVE. We're now Lua Viet loyal customers for life! Also, if you're wondering about kid-friendliness, we know at least one 7-year-old who rates their chicken pho as the best chicken noodle soup they've ever had and insisted on having their leftovers the next day. And you can't leave without taking one of the melon candies on the counter... Give this restaurant a try - you won't regret it! read more

They gave me food I was allergic to when I specifically requested without, but to err is human. The reason I'm giving a bad review is that they lied about it. When the food arrived I very politely pointed out that they mistakenly made the food with the ingredient I asked to omit. He didn't look at my food, but instead told me that the dish didn't contain any of it and that it was something else. Well, the food tasted terrible but I was hungry so I ate it. Big mistake - I was sick for days. I took a look at the menu online and sure enough, the dish contains the ingredient I'm allergic to. I called the restaurant anonymously and asked about the dish. Sure enough, the dish had what I thought it did but of course "We can serve it without if you want." Right. read more

We just had the pleasure of eating at Lua Viet. It is really good. From beginning to end this restaurant is a treat for the senses. The service is wonderful. Every thing we ordered was superb. The fresh spring rolls are perfectly fresh and the peanut dipping sauce is devine. The kimche lettuce wraps were excellent. The salad "goi" yummy and the Pho was delicious! Not sure this place is very authentically Vietnamese. I ordered the noodle plate with pork, chicken and shrimp. When it arrived I received only the pork and shrimp. I later tasted a piece of the chicken from a friend's plate and was glad I didn't get it. Was filling and a very large portion; enough for lunch the next day leftover. The menu is small and I think a little pricey for what you get. The meat is a mystery as it doesn't resemble the source at all. Both the chicken and pork are pieces about 1/8" thick and 2" X 1". Never seen meat like that before. Would have liked to see more vegis in the dish as well. read more

We came back again to see what was new. We ordered something else this time, but there's no more happy hour. Instead they have improved green tea, with matcha in it, which is hard to find in a restaurant. They also have Japanese [hot] sake, which is much tastier than the California counterparts, & stronger too. I wasn't interested in any of the 3 beers they have on tap now. {Most Asian restaurants here have a very poor selection of draft beer, if any at all!} UPDATE: We returned a year later & it's now the Viet House. In the last 3 years, It's gone up & down here. No more Japanese sake, & the shrimpy pho I ate went right though me later on, even tho I didn't put any hot peppers or beansprouts in it. Tucked in behind the Starbucks on Hwy 116 near Fircrest Market, this place is hard to find unless you already know it BUT you should make an effort to try this place. GREAT food at reasonable prices. We had the Shaking Beef with tender filet mignon pieces and really flavorful sauce, the chicken vermicelli bowl, and the shrimp spring rolls. For two people, this was the perfect meal. The Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin' on tap topped everything off. You don't have to love Vietnamese cuisine to find something you like here. Highly recommended!! read more

We had yummy Thai ice teas and Vietnamese coffee with spring rolls, kimchi pork lettuce tacos, and beef noodle soup. Prices are so reasonable for the portions and the waitstaff were very inviting. I appreciate that they have both a 'regular' and 'large' to accommodate different appetites for some of their items. Unreasonably delicious beef pho (using filet mignon and OMG, the MEATBALLS were almost orgasmic!) for a very reasonable price. A small bowl is plenty for dinner or lunch. Get the large and take half home for later. Clean, modern layout and design, friendly staff, pretty quiet even when fairly full. Initial service could be a smidge faster, but this is a new, small restaurant, not a well-oiled Appleby's. The pho came out very quickly after ordering, quicker than I've gotten it other places. We ate here last night, and are thrilled to have this place as an addition to the neighborhood. The food was fresh, bright, and beautifully plated. They have recently acquired a beer and wine license, and the wine list, while small, is well chosen and complements the food. The decor is minimalist and lovely, with original art on the walls. We had the opportunity to speak to the artist, as well as the chef, and found everyone with whom we interacted to be engaged, informed, and sociable. We will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I went to Lua Viet last night and were fairly disappointed. I am a chef of 35 years so am fairly critical. I ordered the veggie spring roll and could tell it had been sitting in the fridge all day and was gummy, the dipping sauce gloppy. The carrots in the pho tasted like Birdseye frozen and the vegetable used were very pedestrian. The menu says $4 for a Sapporo beer, but they charged $7. I heard another table complaining of this too. The staff was friendly and this place has potential but more attention needs to paid to details. read more

Apparently my 2 experiences eating here aren't the norm, as I've seen Many good reviews.... However, both my visits were not very appetizing. The first visit, I'll attest the horrible service to the fact that it was their first month of operation. Our meals took 45 minutes to make it to the table... After sitting in the pick up window for roughly 10 minutes. Needless to say everything was cold, not to mention bland. The second experience was a little better concerning their service, and the spring rolls we received were fairly good... But only fairly. Unfortunately, the Beef Pho we ordered was the worst excuse for Pho I've ever experienced! There was absolutely NO flavor, other than that of beef broth with green onions and a couple mushrooms thrown in...and there was an oil slick of beef fat floating on top! The beef was very thin and grayish in color...but the two peices that we did manage to find were tender. In the description, it said there are also meat balls in the Beef Pho, but they were more like chunks of Spam rolled into little balls. They were nasty and processed... Like no other 'meatballs' I've ever seen before. Needless to say, I will NOT be going back to Lau-Viet. I'll just drive to The Sea Noodle Bar in Coddington...where the Pho is to DIE for, as well everything else I've had there! Oh, and their 16oz. draft pours are really only 12oz. pours...so be prepared to be dissapointed when you ask them for a draft. read more

OMG!! This is the best pho I've had since I can remember. Pho is my FAVORITE dish. I could and have eaten it every day for weeks. Here, the broth is light, yet full and flavorful. The ingredients are so fresh and clean. Very good quality. We had Pho Tai, just steak, no brisket, shrimp spring rolls, and the creme brulee for dessert. The pho was really good, perfect. The spring rolls were fresh, but had a bit too much lettuce, and not enough mint in them for me. Also, the place where I normally go, has a meat slice wrapped around the lettuce, mint, noodles, then the half shrimp slice laid on that, then wrapped with rice paper. I'm not saying they were bad, they just weren't the way I like them. The creme brulee was PERFECT!! It's so rare that people make it right. I am so often disappointed when I order it and get what is basically a pudding. Here, it was a perfectly textured custard with just amazing flavor!! The thin crisp layer of sugar crust was excellently done!! This is my new FAVORITE place for pho. Oh and the SERVICE!! WOW! Most places I have had pho, they take your order, drop off your food, and you won't see them again unless you send up a flare. The server here was delightful! Helpful, caring and attentive without hovering. She was wonderful and seemed to really care about our wishes. We enjoyed this place so much. We have business in town every Thursday for awhile, and we will be back as long as we do!! read more
