We came here for the first time for lunch.we ordered spring rolls, spicy beef pho and filet mignon pho. The spring rolls were disappointing as they were mostly lettuce with a shrimp. Small amount of peanut sauce was served with them. Both soups were really good and the service was quick. I'd like to get more bean sprouts on the plate and less branches of basil. We will definitely be back to try more on the menu and support our local restaurants. read more

This place seems to have improved with time. As others have mentioned, on my first visit service was slow and uneven - several minutes before we were acknowledged and took a long time to get food. My last visit was a pleasant improvement. Greeted soon after we arrived and seated promptly. Got water almost immediately. The main menu is pretty meat heavy so be sure to look for the second menu if you are vegetarian or vegan (not sure why they just don't print it on the back of the main menu). Even so, limited options for vegans here. My dining companion, a vegan had the tofu spring rolls with peanut sauce. I had the chicken noodle soup. I love that they bring the fresh jalapenos, bean sprouts and lime to let you decide how much of each you want in the soup. Our server even asked me if I wanted more of them as I used them all, which was a nice offer. The large soup is big, had lots of noodles and chicken in a tasty broth. As others have mentioned, I LOVE that they have the hot chili sauce on the table as well as Sriracha. Lets me make my dishes as spicy as I want without relying on the kitchen. Service was attentive and quick, which was lacking in my first visit so I'm glad it has improved. Worth a try if your looking for something different. Be aware that like Hole in the Wall nearby, this place is hidden from the street in the back of the little shopping plaza with Starbucks and Subway, so don't expect to see the restaurant sign from the road, you'll need to park and walk around the place to find it. read more

Viet House Restaurant is kind of hard to find but well worth it. The space is very comfortable with high ceilings and tasteful decorating and every time that we've been there it is very clean. The food is fresh and delicious and you can have it mild or as spicy as you want. The crowning glory of the place is the owner and her staff, everyone who works there is friendly and courteous. The first time she explained there may have been some chicken in the pot before they made the next batch...which doesn't make sense unless they don't wash pots between cooking batches. They just opened so the menu is still small and they didn't have egg noodle for pho. But what we had were very good and tasty. I know the waiter that night was young may be its his first job but I want my hot meal is hot. You don't want to see your dish staying at the window between kitchen for a while. The waiter was kinda busy? But the manger ? Who was there also Needs to help him. The waiter wad running two tables and phone call. Over all we like our meals . The prices are not reflective of the service or food. I tried this place out with the hopes that they'd use some Sebastopol mojo in the menu. By Sebastopol mojo I mean uses of probiotics or any type of healthy marketing West county folk are fond of. I didn't find any of this, I found a menu very similar to your standard Vietnamese pho spot with some vegetarian options and bûn (vermicelli rice noodles) and com dia (rice plates). Not many other specials than that.. They had no bun no hue (house special spicy noodle soup) when I visited either. I ordered the combo pho and it was extremely under seasoned, bland and watery. Service was meh, so deathly slow but no sense of urgency whatsoever. Mind you, that was just the pho and I'm only basing it off my single visit to try the pho. I hope that the highlights are the bûn and rice plates. I may try it out again in the future. read more

Did take out during shelter in place. Beef Pho was fine, noodles were in separate container, broth was flavorful but beef was way overcooked. Look for fresh greens tightly wrapped in plastic wrap. Biggest complaint is the container they use for the soup broth is a paper container that collapses with heat over time. So if you want to bring this home, the liquid will be loose in the bag they put the soup in. They must know this, because that bag holding the soup container is tied, and then put into the big bag with the rest of the food. read more

My wife and I've to Lua Viet two or three times in the past year and a half, usually on our way back from the coast back to our home in Santa Rosa. My boss, who lives in Vietnam, recommended them as he says it's the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant we have in Sonoma County. Flavors are good, but I didn't think they were particularly special when comparing them to other Vietnamese eateries. I've docked two stars due to the high price to small portion ratio. On the last visit over the weekend, we ordered spring rolls and two noodle dishes. That would normally fill us up, but we were left hungry and had to raid our kitchen afterwards. Two medium size spring rolls per order at the same price we pay for three larger rolls elsewhere, and the noodle dish sizes were almost half the size we're used to and costs a bit more too. Fix the portion sizes and we'll be back. read more

Let me cut to the chase. Every visit I've made here has been a failure due to their carelessness and on one occasion I found a huge fly in my pho. Today however has taken the cake and has to be the worse experience I've ever had at any food establishment. Did I mention, I've returned time and time again to give them another chance? Well, we ordered the veggie gyoza and veggie dumpling to start. We've had this other times. Tell me why they served us the pork gyoza and dumpling. We even examined it wondering if it was in fact pork. The server assured us that there was no meat in it. Too f ing late! One gyoza and two dumplings later, I'm getting this uncertain feeling. We ask another server there and she confirmed that they did serve us meat! How careless are these people? If the server didn't know, why wouldn't he just double check? They said the cook was busy, but yet there were only 3 tables. And even worse, we ordered it twice! The cook made the same mistake twice! Luckily I didn't partake in the first dish and still unfortunately, I ate meat. I felt sick to my stomach instantly. Don't they know that there are vegetarians and vegans in this world that can't or choose to not consume flesh. I was extremely appalled and disgusted. On top of that, here I was waiting for my veggie pho, which the server did not put in. Fail after fail. This place is the only Vietnamese restaurant and they are so proud of being the first of its kind in this area. Do everyone a favor and close your doors. After realizing how neglectful they were to our order and experience, they still decided to charge us. Utmost disrespect to a cutomer, but most importantly a fellow human being. From this experience, I felt physically nauseated and my stomach churned and twisted painfully. As noted, they have "poor food handling practices and overall run a poor general food facility maintenance." BEWARE of this restaurant and proceed with EXTREME CAUTION! read more

First time here, visiting family. Wife and I walking near our hotel found this place. Went in very busy, we were seated near the door. Drafty place. My wife asked to be moved, server said when there was an opening she would see what she could do. Very quickly we were moved to a nicer spot. The place is clean and bright. We are vegetarian and there were plenty of options. My wife had vegetable stir fry with tofu and brown rice. I had vegetable chow fun. We ordered two appetizers fresh vegetarian springrolls with avocado and steamed vegetarian gyoza. The place was very busy so it took awhile for the food to arrive. My husband loves this place! I am not that into Pho but he is and it is in the perfect location (next to our daughter's ballet studio where he can chill and drink a beer while he waits for her to get out). They have a nice happy hour where you can get a cheap drink and a bunch of appetizers too. I like the variety on their menu for it being so small. It keeps me focused and helps me make a decision quick. My nine year old daughter (who is so picky we have to give her nutrition shakes) loves the soup here and that is really saying something! I like that they have decent size soups and that is really what the restaurant is all about. After reading another review about the portion size I didn't quite understand it because they seem to be pretty transparent about their sizes. My husband likes everything bigger and will take things home where as I don't like to eat as much when we are out and never want to take home left overs. The atmosphere here is great too. I love their clean cut interior design and it is never to loud in here. This might also be because we are coming here during the day while the ballet classes are still in session. After sitting through a springtime celebration at a nearby location on a hot morning, this writer was suffering from a combination of being too tired and more importantly, too hungry. While I had some water to quench my frequent thirst, the event offered no other culinary options than gluten-free, wheat-free and taste-free options. Fortunately my wife and our friends were enthusiastically recommending we go out to eat, at a restaurant, and asked if I'd be open to Vietnamese. Why yes, I said, I'm open to many a culture. Oh, you mean food - well, of course I'd be open to that! The strip mall where Lua Viet is located is unassuming enough. You have your Starbucks, Subway, and Insurance agent, three organizations that Sebastopol allegedly frowns upon. But at least the exterior is kept up, and the parking lot seems safe enough for me to not worry about my vehicle being keyed or spray painted or anything. But that's not why one comes here - you come to eat. And I'm happy to say that the options here are plenty, and not too expensive to boot. Soups! BBQ Chicken! Small Plates! Something for everybody (well, probably not everybody), and I opted for BBQ Shrimp and Vermicelli Noodles. Sauce was good, the Thai Ice Tea went down in a jiffy, and the conversation was fascinating. Omg the BBQ Pork Springrolls are TO DIE FOR!!! The texture and sweetness of the BBQ Pork is SO Satisfying when blended with the cool vermicelli noodles and fresh mint! Especially, with a bit of chili sauce added to each bite, before pouring over the sweet, creamy peanut sauce and Chomping down on the crisp crunch of lettuce to make it all THE FULL PACKAGE! I eat these for lunch and you just cant go wrong if you like something light and fresh and filling, but won't put you to sleep in the middle of your busy day! Good, clean, solid Vietnamese food in a clean, inviting space. My first time so all I had was the chicken with vegetables, which was fresh, tasty, if a bit underseasoned for my palate (the sauces on the table helped perk it up). The location in a little cramped strip mall on Gravenstein Highway (116) is probably not the best but easy to get to if you know VH is in there. THE GREAT NEWS is that they are considering offering banh mi, which would fill a glaring hole in West County. I've tried several places in SR and none are that great. So, if you get a chance to try Viet House, please encourage them to do a banh mi trial, even if it's just a day or two a week to test the market. read more
