It's the latest of many new Vietnamese eateries along Victoria Drive between 33rd and 49th. I had the Crab Meat/Fish Cake noodle. The ace-up-the-sleeve ingredient is their crab meat for an otherwise ubiquitous offering. If the herb and dill that other establishments add to their broth is too overwhelming, this might be your place for this noodle dish. The menu is limited, the décor simple. The staff was very friendly and the place had new furnishings. I'm told their cooking is Nhern Vietnamese-based. So far, I'd give it a 3.5 star. Good job! read more

We figured we'd test the Vietnamese restaurants on Victoria drive. This street has the most Vietnamese restaurants out of all of Vancouvers commercial ribbons. So we figured we'd just park and walk to a place and choose one. We ended up happening to Viet Mama Cafe. A little shop with a modern interior and it was clean. That's what I really liked. Even the simple nicely laid out menu appealed to my senses. I knew I would like it here. The tables were spread out so we could dine without being too close to others . Staff all wore masks and were polite. Thank god there were no crazy Trumpians here to make issues with face masks. I just don't get those people who refuse to wear them. It's also one of the reasons why we don't really dine much at western places so we don't have to feel like we're being scrutinized for wearing a mask. Anyways, we ended up really liking their soup broth and their pho was nice and clean tasting. Loved the noodles they used. I also liked the mango salad and am looking forward to another time back so I can try their papaya salad! So all in all we had a very good food experience here. We left happy and just the right amount of fullness that we could enjoy our walk to our next food adventure on Vic Drive. read more

Delicious food!! And great service, I ordered pho tai for take out. I received that item and the restaurant did no wrong. But the delivery driver from ubereats caused the soup to be spilled everywhere. The lid came loose in the packaging. I re ordered again and they fixed the ubereats issue for me. Crab noodle soup is what I had. Hot n tasty! Took home a meat rice roll, but I believe that's definitely something you need to eat in-house when it's been freshly prepped. Ordered for a late night dinner and was excited to see that this cuisine was available so late! Unfortunately it was not the best experience. I ordered the lemongrass chicken banh mi and I wouldn't even finish it because the taste was almost unbearable. It kind of tasted like something was wrong with it, but I think it's the sauce they used. I thought it was just my dish but turns out my bf didn't even like his beef stew noodle soup! Just left there. Beyond disgusted as we watched a random friend of the server reach into a bucked of bean sprouts with his bare hands. Then same thing with some limes. I'm horrified that we are there. Unsanitary conditions, food was mediocre, we told them we were gluten free and yet 2/4 dishes were with flour and soy sauce. I had a chicken pho and my husband had the rare beef pho. It was clean and authentic. Loved both of the dishes. Favourite was the onion that came as a side and it was simple but totally elevated the pho! Love love this new joint and will continue to support local business! Service was attentive and fast. You need to try their rice rolls. They make the rice rolls on weekends only. It's really fresh and thin sheets. it's one of the best I ever had. I also tried bun rieu and bun bo hue which were decent but wouldn't recommend. I think their's other restaurants in the area who make them better. However, this is a solid place to order viet food from if you are using food delivery apps. read more

I will start off positive....their Mango smoothie was tasty. From there it all goes downhill. Four in our party and we sat in the restaurant for our meal. It is a small restaurant appox. 15 tables total. Half the restaurant was filled, & most had their food on the table. Two servers working the restaurant. It took us 15 to 20 minutes to try to get one of the servers to take our order. Another customer came in & sat at the table right beside ours. The server took his order quickly. Approx. another 20 minutes went by & we did not even get served the tea that one of our party had ordered. However the person beside us got his appetizer, main dish & drink served to him. We mentioned to him your lucky you got your food so quickly. He said laughingly, he was wondering why we we still waiting for ours. 15 minutes went by & we finally got our servers attention again. Our server told us that he was waiting for all of the dishes to be ready before serving it to us. We asked if we could a least get the drinks we had ordered. The server looked at us and said oh yes there coming. Another 20 minutes went by & he finally brought 1 of the 2 mango smoothies & glass of tea. Eventually we received the 2nd mango smoothies we had ordered. Another 10 minutes went by & finally the server brought us over the salad roll we had ordered. Another 15 minutes went buy and he finally brought us our main dishes. The size of the dishes were generous but lack any real flavour...so disappointed as normally Vietnamese dishes are usually so packed with flavour. I personally love vietnamese food and do a lot of vietnamese cooking at home as well. That being said, I always love seeing dishes that I don't normally make, such as banh bot loc or banh cuon because they're a little more labour intensive. The interior is nice and clean, more modern than you usual vietnamese restaurant which is a nice touch. I had a chance to try their banh bot loc, banh cuon nhan, pho Dac Viet, and bun rieu cua cha ca. To start, I was very impressed with their banh cuon. They managed to keep the skin very thin and I was able to pull them apart effortlessly without having them fall apart. For the pho dac biet, they used thicker sliced beef (you can tell this was quality beef) compared to most pho restaurants which use the thin sliced beef instead. The bun cua cha ca was surprisingly VERY good. The reason for the surprise is because everyone raves about Hoang Yen for cha ca but I actually liked it better here!! We went when it was first opened. The Bun Rieu was alright, a different kind of sour, but there was real crabmeat in it. Dac biet was pretty good too. The only thing was that theemu was relatively small, and they only offered one size, would be better if they had bigger portion. read more

This place has delicious rice rolls, clear dumplings, and crab meat vermicelli. The dumplings are so unique, individually wrapped in banana leaves. I have yet to try other things on their menu but I think everything will be just as delicious. read more

Love love loved this place!! The salad rolls were so fresh, you could just taste the difference in the freshness of the salad roll! I got the number 8 (I think) where it was cooked chicken and raw beef pho. The broth itself was slightly sweet which I really liked! Usually I find most pho broth to be salty but this was perfect! Along with the veggies provided (basil, lime, chili pepper and bean sprouts) they had this pickled onion which was beyond amazing! It was similar to kimchi but just onions! Surprisingly it was so good! I could've ate that on its own but as suggested, I added it to my pho. The restaurant was clean. Decor was simple and modern and the simicity of the decor gave way to the boldness of flavor of the food! The service was amazing and prompt! So glad we stumbled across this place! I will definitely be coming back for more! Also, if your concerned about covid, the promptly cleaned everything, including all sauce bottles once clients were done with them and there was hand sanitizer in all appropriate places!!! read more

It baffles me how this place has any 5 star reviews; I'm guessing people either have really low standards or the feedback is left by friends and families. I ordered the Bun Rieu and to my dismay, this dish was utterly disgusting and inedible. You can tell that they cheap out on ingredients; fish cakes were merely flour + salt and the crab cakes were 90% egg. The broth was overly sour with no depth of flavor. Everything was heavily laden with MSG, tastes like they use a whole package of the white powder in each bowl. I wouldn't even feed this to a pig. Save your stomach (& wallet) and go elsewhere. We discovered this place right before quarantine and ordered delivery at least a handful of times. From time to time they do specials if you spend over $50, they throw in a dessert. I'm impressed with the quality of the pho broth. The broth is clean tasting and I don't need to drink a gallon of water after due to msg. Their exceptonal sevice brought our second visits to this small restaurant. Owners cares of their patrion's feedback. Bun cha ca (fried fish cake rice noodle soup), crab meat cha gio (spring rolls), goi cun (salad roll), and banh coun cha lu (rice wrapped with pork with ham sausage combo) were authentic. Cha ca soup was a bit light to our tasting but a few drops of fish sauce brings it to our half sensitive taste buds. Banh coun tasted better than what we ate in Hanoi street food in Vietnam. Behind the cashier counter, a hand sanitizer dispenser was pointed out me by Ngok the owner, that she cares for the restaurant's food safety. We are a couple of older people so we only eat small meal at a time. We will return to try their mango and papaya salads. read more

A very small shop front but I read the reviews and decided to take my MIL there to check it out, since she needed to buy some Chinese herbs in the area. The menu is quite small compared to other Vietnamese restaurants so i ordered the Special Pho and my MIL ordered the Vermicelli Crab Meat Shrimp. The Server was a sweet young girl who was attentive and helpful. The broth of my Special Pho was really flavourful and the portion was a good size. My MIL liked her broth too but said she couldn't find much crab in it. They've priced it about the same as the other phos so I had already tempered my expectations. Super clean place, its extremely difficult to find an aesthetic viet place without giving up the flavour but this place has it all. Service is fast and the server was really attentive. We purposely went to try this new restaurant out last week, menu is very limited, ran out of (3 out of 10 items) at dinner time. I strongly recommend Viet Mama Cafe if you are craving for authentic northern Vietnamese food. I've been here a few times since it opened in Vancouver and I must say their food here is amazing! It is home-made and made out of fresh ingredients. My fave dish so far is Banh cuon which certainly is the best in town, and the papaya salad which has a lot of herbs. Their Pho also is good, it has a very clear broth and you can tell they don't put MSG on their food. For the medium-range price, I think it is really worth it if you're looking for a healthy and palatable meal. The pictures in their menu does not justify how delicious the food are. This will always be my go-to Vietnamese place here in Vancouver. read more
