I would rate this place zero stars if I could!! My coworker and I placed an order for the Pho steak and brisket...when attempting to eat our lunch we realized the brisket was missing. We called back up there and spoke with Tran she confirmed the order was incorrect and said to come back and they would fix it. We explained to her that we were on our lunch break and couldn't come back , so she said we could keep our order and come back in on Monday and she would give us the correct order on the house. She also said the manager KY (that's how she spelled the name) would call us back. After we hung up another lady called us back, very rude speaking fast and loudly, I could barely understand what she was saying, told us to bring the food back with us when we come on Monday to exchange for the correct order. Mind you today is Friday, so she wanted us to save the food and bring it back to exchange for the correct order (never heard of such a thing, I didnt know you could return food back to a restaurant. At that point we requested a refund which she refused. Another one of my coworkers tried to talk to her as well and she was extremely rude to him and stated "I feel sorry for your mother" and hung up the phone. I have been going to this restaurant since it was still Saigon house. I love this spot and its usually the go to spot for my family if we don't want pho on Sunday. However for most people who are bot familiar to Vietnamese food may find this place rather unattractive. Pros: Food is great! I always order the rice combo plates, Bun Bo Hue is great compared to most places and the Bung Mang Vit is delicious! Theres a lot of varieties of vietnamese food here that is worth trying out! Cons: Service is not great. Im Vietnamese, i understand Vietnamese people lol. Sometimes our table gets water for half the people or none at all. Same would go for tea. I would rate this restaurant a 3 because mainly the service. They don't make me feel like im welcomed which would chase most people away. But thats the culture of this restaurant. There is a good waitress but one person can't do all the work all the time. Great food, lack of quality service. I love the food and the atmosphere doesn't bother me. Just a tip for people who are coming in for the first time. My best advice is to come in looking for good food but don't expect a 5 star service, or even 4 stars. While waiting to be seated, sometimes my friend and I get passed on the waiting list, so be careful to really listen for your name and stay close by. When it's super packed, it's difficult to get a waiter's attention, and they tend to not check in at all once you've ordered. Some dishes I've enjoyed are the banh hoi special/combo, vermicelli, and bun rieu. If I want soup, I'd go elsewhere a bit further south of the ID, and stick to noodle or rice dishes at this place. The banh hoi and vermicelli were solid items I'd reorder. Overall, I'd prefer to order to-go, as I've done easily through Yelp recently. I like this place, it has a HUGE variety of Vietnamese food. Everything from rice plates to special soup to vermicelli bowls to other miscellaneous dishes. If it's Vietnamese, you definitely will find it at Vietnam House. I find it very rare to find broken rices at any Vietnamese restaurant which I can understand why because broken rices literally can only be used for one dish so it's a waste to cook a whole pot of it, but I found it here! Their special rice plate came with grilled pork, fried egg, bean curd wrapped meat, & sugar cane shrimp. Since I don't eat seafood, they happily substituted the sugar can shrimp for an egg pie for me. If you go on a weekend, you're bound to go through crazy rushes and be ignored because this place is popular. They did recently expended due to demand so now it's twice the size with another dining area. Surprisingly, they accept cards (there might be a minimum purchase). I came here on recommendation from some of my Vietnamese friends who swore this place is more authentic than next door's Tamarind Tree. Walking in, I see all Asian people, so that's a good sign. Ordered seafood chow fun but there wasn't much, if not any, seafood. Just a few shrimps and fish balls. Wasn't impressed at all. Also ordered some other meat dishes.. Was not impressed. Their portions are really small, so you don't get much for what you pay for. Maybe I just didn't order the right stuff, but this place disappointed me. Service is better than next door (Tamarind) The best Bun Bo Hue that I have tasted (Spicy noodle soup) and Bung Mang Vit ( Duck noodle soup with fresh bamboo shoots. Not from the can!) They are well known for their com tam (broken rice) dishes and some of their noodle dishes, like bun bo hue (spicy noodle soup from Hue) and bun mang vit (duck noodle soup). I was introduced to this place by my Vietnamese colleagues. They told me if I want a more authentic taste of I need to come here instead of Tamarind Tree. I found out about Vietnam House after chatting with a Vietnamese grandmother from my son's school. She asked me if I liked Tamarind Tree and I said "No". I told her I don't know why people go crazy over it. So what does she do, hits me on the leg and says "You know good food then!" This is when she tells me about Vietnam House. She thought it was so good, she went there 3 days in a row! The hubby and I decided to try this in lieu of our usual Indian lunch place. We get there and there was a long line of Vietnamese families. I knew this place had to be good! I made sure that the wait for 2 was not long since my hubby has serious issues with waiting for food, particularly mediocre. We managed to be seated in 15 minutes and proceeded to order. We ordered a noodle soup dish that came with a duck salad. Superb! We also ordered our must have which is short ribs and vermicelli noodles. This had to be the best short ribs I have ever had even though I asked for the box after a few bites. The waitress was so concerned that she asked if everything was okay. I told her that the fresh shrimp roll filled me up really quickly. We had 4 dishes for under $30. I was worried after reading some of the reviews around service, but my friend and I had a good experience at Vietnam House. It took them a little while to get to us, but our server (a youngish guy) was polite and fairly attentive. My dish took longer than my friend's to come out, but I think they had to heat up the veggie broth, because it was extra hot when it arrived. The food was delicious. I'm pretty sure the tofu in my pho was homemade, and all the vegetables were cooked to just the right degree. The broth was excellent - flavorful but not too salty. I usually eat 'bún măng vt' at Tamarind Tree but then discovered this place when Tamarind was full. Since then, this restaurant became my obsession for bun mang vit. The duck is very tender amd the soup is really good. The complimentary dipping sauce (nc mm gng) makes the duck more flavorful and absolutely goes along with the soup! As soon as the restaurant door shut behind me I realized I was the only non-Vietnamese person there. I awkwardly rushed up to the cash register. At first I ordered a fish dish. The man at the register yelled back to the cook and it took a while for the cook to answer. I decided to get something else because it seemed like it wasn't a popular item. I went with the typical chicken with vermicelli noodles. I had to shift my standing position because it was so crowded and there was no room in the aisle way. It was about a 10 minute wait. I took my food back to work. It didn't taste good and they didn't cut the fat off the chicken. I ate less than 10% of the meal and threw the rest away. I still think Pho Fuchsia better. This is my family's go-to for Vietnamese food (not necessarily pho). What's nice about this location is that there's a free parking lot and the restaurant is more spacious than it looks. In recent years, they've remodeled and extended the restaurant. My family usually orders a different combination of the following items: -Bun bo hue (Spicy beef noodle soup) -Bun rieu (Tomato/seafood noodle soup) -Bun cuon (Vietnamese rice paper roll - comparable to a Vietnamese version of a ravioli) -Bun cha (Vietnamese noodle salad) -Duck noodles -Broken rice -Beef satay noodles The interior of the restaurant is clean and spacious enough. Service can be a hit or miss. Some of the ladies are nice and attentive, but some others can be ditzy and dismissive. Overall, a solid joint for some good Vietnamese food. Vietnam House is a hidden gem. Located right next to Tamarind Tree most folks don't realize the restaurant is there. If you are looking for some delicious authentic Vietnamese food this is the place to go. It's inexpensive and delicious. The restaurant itself is a good size, lots of places to sit. Service is good and the food is NOMS! We've had a few dishes here but one of our favorites is just ordering the 7 course beef. You are served multiple versions of meat throughout the meal. It's simple and filling. The only thing I don't like about Vietnam House is the parking, the parking lot is always full. So try and get there a little earlier so you give yourself ample time to park. I ordered the Com Tam Suon Bo Nuong with Chai Tom, for those who don't know what that is, it is broken steamed rice with grilled beef short ribs plus minced shrimp on a sugarcane stick. I usually order this when I'm here once in a blue moon. You can't really go wrong with the other items they listed, their soups are really good too. The spicy beef noodle soup, the duck soup, and the bun mam (although this item is for the brave, many people who aren't use to a very strong smell of flavors should not order it). This is going to be vague. I think I ordered #47 on their menu. I'm not Vietnamese and I can barely remember the name of my plate, but my other friends were ordering it anyway. When my order came, it was rice topped with a pork chop, some baked egg/ground pork thing, and what looked like noodles. The pork chop was decent and I enjoyed it. And the noodles turned out to be some sort of shredded pork (that was my bad - I should have read the description of what I ordered before I ordered it). But what I enjoyed the most was that egg cake or whatever it is! It's sooo good. I wish I just ordered a whole plate of that. This is how homemade Vietnamese food is supposed to taste like. Skip the over hyped next door T-tree place , save some money and eat here! Yes T-Tree is modern and more visually pleasing but there is a reason why you see multiple generations of Vietnamese people eating here! Since my mom is thousands of mile away from me now, V-house is my comfort place. I have order almost everything on the menu and almost all of it is great. I highly recommend the following: Bun Bo Hue - ah the salty grey soup with jellied blood and pork hock... tastes a lot better than it looks and smell, just dig in, slurp up the noodles and both, your taste buds will giggle with all of the different flavors. Bun Mang Vit - bamboo infusion noodle soup with a side of 1 of the best duck salad in the sound (you can order just the salad) - if you have not had this, you have to try it Banh Xeo - "Vietnamese crepes".... that is just wrong to call it that!!! just because its a big flat circle of thin umm dough... it is not a crepe! It is much more than that! the shell is a rice flour concoction of delish that houses a bed of bean spouts and bits of pork belly and shrimp. You use lettuce as the wrap and add all sorts of fresh herbs. Congee with various meats - for all of you sick people that need warmth, order this! as the name states, the various meats are bits of liver, kidney, pork blood, intestines... so if that not your thing you can order the dark salad version - anyways, the congee alone is so flavourful that you can just eat it as is.... If you want real Vietnamese food, look inside the restaurant and make sure you see Vietnamese families eating there, better yet, check to see the grandmas and grandpas... if they are there....that's a good sign.
