I have ordered takeout before from here and i typically was satisfied, although there is a clear decreasing trend. This is the first time I ordered the Greek pizza. The description is "topped with red onions, peppers, olives, feta cheese, and extra virgin olive oil." I did not have any special requests and i went to pick it up. After i got the pizza and was going to my car, someone came after me to tell me they gave me the wrong pizza. So they took it and gave me a replacement. When i got home i noticed that the pizza had 0 peppers/onions and tons of cherry tomatoes. i am guessing 1) they gave the wrong thing twice or 2) they were out of peppers and onions and substituted. In both cases I did not really get what I have ordered. I can appreciate that mistakes happen (it was a slow period) but when you are claiming that you are rectifying a mistake and make changes (in the middle of the street), you need to take responsibility. read more

I wish I had discovered this place sooner! For some odd reason, I had never even noticed this little shop on the corner even though I was going on Amtrak every other week for a year. Like other yelpers mentioned, this is probably the best pizza in Davis, especially for the price. The peperoni wasn't anything special, except with much less grease than everywhere else. Their veggie combo on the other hand was AMAZING! It's probably because they left out olives and had feta on there. Yum! They have a wide assortments of breads which are delicious and cheap! I came here for the first time in years on a whim, and bought a slice of their pepperoni pizza. Slices are large, but the pizza was just okay. They do look really good in the display case, but they taste like normal CoHo pizza with a thinner and crispier crust. I don't think I'll be back here just for their pizza, because it honestly tastes like the usual delivery pizza and there wasn't anything in the pizza to suggest that I was eating "gourmet" pizza, which is what their sign advertises. Village Bakery is hands down my favorite pizza joint in town. It's a small bakery tucked away in downtown, right next to the Amtrak station. It's very easy to miss when you're walking around, which adds to its appeal since it's so quaint. It's definitely one of Davis's best kept secrets. You can order pizza by the slice here, and the prices are cheap! Cheese goes for $2.25 a slice, pepperoni is $2.50, and vegetarian (my favorite!!) is only $2.75. The slices are huge; one or two slices can easily fill you up for a meal. The vegetarian pizza comes complete with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, zucchinis, olives, and feta cheese. Mmm. The crust is thin and crispy... it's one of the best pizza crusts I've ever tried. You can also order their specialty pizzas (prices range from $14-16), but I've never ordered them before. They look really good, though! It's nice to come here on a sunny day where you can grab some pizza and eat outside in their seating area by the sidewalk. The store itself is very small (I believe it can only fit up to 5 customers inside), so most people either eat outside or take it to-go. Now that I won't be living in Davis anymore, I'm going to miss Village Bakery so badly (note to Village Bakery: please move to San Francisco!!). read more

Bought a chocolate chip cookie and almond croissant here, and both were delicious and really inexpensive. The cookie was chewy and satisfied my chocolate craving with its abundance of chocolate chips. The croissant was nice and flaky, and I popped it in the oven for a few minutes to give it that extra oomph since I bought it later in the afternoon (I'm assuming the pastries are fresher in the morning). The girl behind the register was super friendly and patient (I took a while to decide what I wanted..everything looked so good). Might try their pizza and bread next time. This place has the absolute best veggie pizza ever. I've purchased it both by the slice and a whole one for my friends and I. I tell every body about the veggie pizza that Village offers, but it has to be from this location. The dough has an artisan taste to it and the pizza sauce is robust and seasoned perfectly. All the veggies included make a perfect combination of sweet and savory. The sweetness from the caramelized onions pairs greatly with the mushrooms and other vegetables. Super disappointed - it was like eating cardboard. Can you review a bakery if you only go in to get a cup of coffee while you wait for the train? Well I can for I am Hunter, yelper of bakeries and stuff. I asked for a cappuccino then cased the joint. It's about as big as my bedroom and has a few desserts behind the glass and about four shelves of bread on the wall behind the counter. Funny thing, I couldn't smell any bread. ??? It looked good but shouldn't fresh baked bread give off the aroma of... fresh bread. I thought that was weird. Then I got my coffee. Have you ever stared at some bird poop on the ground for about 30 seconds and then closed your eyes and seen the negative impression. You know, like a photo negative. No? Well try it and you'll know what my cap looked like. That happens when you fill the cup with milk first and then pour the shot of espresso in. It doesn't look pretty. And who does that? It's espresso first then milk foam, people. But I'm being overly critical. It didn't taste bad and I didn't even try what they are best known for-- the bread. A slice of your veggie or Hawaiian pizza would have made my day, but you didn't sell slices at 10:30 in the morning. That's okay and I forgive you. I had an amazing scone at Scribbler's Cafe in Woodland recently and found out that they get them from Village Bakery. I had never really noticed the scones at Village Bakery before because there are so many other amazing things there that are more prominently showcased. The scones look rather humble in comparison. So I bought a scone this morning and warmed it in my toaster oven. It was sooooooooooo good. Lightly crisp exterior, tender crumb inside, generously portioned, perfect flavor and texture. I love scones but am usually disappointed by them if they are too sweet or too strongly flavored (cake disguised as scone), if they are too dry or too light (biscuit disguised as scone). I like the lightly sweet ones with delicious but subtle flavor, and that perfection of texture which is at once tender and substantial. This one hit the spot. Try one warmed with a mug of hot coffee. The workers are super friendly! I ordered a whole artichoke pizza to split with a friend. We ate about half of it and took the rest home. The pizza was thin crust, but not crispy enough for my liking. This bakery is very small and only has seat for 4 people inside, but there are more tables outside. I overheard that they only bake half of their products onsite and it's only at 5 am. So if you want fresh baked goods, go in the morning! I would recommend others to try this place, but not necessarily come here that often. I'd rather go to Amici's in Vacaville for east coast style pizza. read more

A little pricey for a slice of pizza but dang is it good pizza! They charge you for using your card if it's under a certain amount, so you've bee warned! I would come with cash and pop in and pop out. They have patio seating so it's a perfect place to grab a quick bite. Some people bring their dogs and chill out with a slice. Their slices are pretty hefty. I can definitely fill up on one slice unless I'm starving. They have good options but I always opt for their pepperoni. YUM. Their location has it's pros and cons. Pro's being that it's in downtown Davis, right next to the Amtrak station. If you're a student heading to Amtrak then perfect! You can eat before you take off. If you're not heading to Amtrak then parking is the absolute worst. I usually park at Amtrak since I'm usually grabbing a quick bite. Or if I'm meeting up with friends I'll park further in downtown and walk to a bar, grab a beer then head for some pizza. The service is pretty good. I'm not blown away by their cheerfulness but they get the job done. They also have aaaaamazing sweets. Their cinnamon rolls YASSS. It's like the only sell the best stuff here. Our go-to for pizza. The crust is really really good, ingredients are fresh, normally only takes about 20 minutes. We also love the lunch deal (slice of pizza, salad and drink). And for sure try their pastries. The lava cake is fantastic (heated) as well as the mousse cake. If you want the same pizza and a place to sit with the family go to Village Grill. Since moving to Woodland we have been disappointed with the pizza's we have tried from around here. I've always seen this bakery across the street from one of my favorite places in Davis to buy shoes. And when I want a pastry in Davis, I usually go to the bakery near the post office. When I left Shuz and started walking to my car , I couldn't resist the smell of pizza so I had no choice but to check it out. Don't let the small size of the bakery fool you. I was very impressed with the Napoleon and their quiche. Most of the time I've had a Napoleon in Cali, the layers of puff pastry are flat,chewy and the pastry cream is not that creamy. This Napoleon was perfect! the layers of puff pastry were flaky, crisp and light. And the pastry cream was oh so good! Even though I was lured to this place by the aroma of pizza, I spied a green onion, cheddar and red potato quiche in the display case. Real men may not eat quiche, but they sure know how to bake them! I say that because I only saw men behind the counter. And they were very nice. Back to the quiche, YUM! The filling was substantial and flavorful. the crust was perfect- just the right thickness, not soggy on the bottom and thick and flaky around the edges! I am totally a fan of this bakery! read more

Their tomatoes are so good on their pizza, as well as their creamy feta. Their pizzas are a single standard size, ranging from $15-18. They are a good size for 2-4 people. They also sell their popular toppings by the slice if you want to stop by after lunch. They have a lot of other amazing baked goods too. Several varieties of bread, and well as pastries and desserts. Definitely one of the best places in Davis for fresh artisan bread! Their sourdough is on the subtler side (just how I prefer it), but they sell plenty of other types of bread. I love the epi loaf; it looks like mini baguettes all strung together! They sell lots of other baked goods too, like cookies and éclairs and chocolate lava cakes. (Must try!) After 2 pm, they discount the breakfast pastries (muffins, scones, and croissants) to $1. The blueberry scone I tried was quite crumbly and could have used a few more berries, but the flavor was still good. They also offer pizza, both entire pies and slices. The pizzas have a thin crust, not much sauce, and lots of cheese. They generally sell cheese, pepperoni, and veggie slices, but the veggie sells out the quickest. If the slices sit for too long, they tend to accumulate a little layer of grease, but nothing a few napkins won't fix. read more

This place is a tiny hole in the wal- there are maybe two or three tiny tables in the actual store, but not to worry, there is excellent outdoor seating, but good luck if it's a cold day. The atmosphere- incredibly laid back, and clearly "local" give this place an extra half star. The pizza is...really indescribable. It's hard to pinpoint the influence- it's got the doughiness and greasiness of the Fat Slice/Blondies persuasion, but the sauce is closer to New York style, and it's certainly tastier and of a higher quality that either Fat Slice or Blondies. It is much better than Woodstocks, which monopolizes the Davis pizza market and people brag about- it's really not all that great. But that's for another review. read more
