Someone told me there was an amazing deli in this area with gourmet salads and rockin sammiches. I saw this place and went in hoping this was it. I think I was wrong. Either that or my source has bad taste. My husband ordered a hot pastrami sandwich. The meat was so overdone it was crispy like bacon. I got the turkey, avocado, sprouts, and cheese. I have been here a couple times and love it. My favorite sandwich (so far) is the New York style pastrami. I was very skeptical when my friend told me that it had coleslaw in it, but I took the chance and am so glad that I did! It's one of the best deli sandwiches that I've ever had. I stopped by after getting my teeth cleaned for a quick bite. I ordered the tuna melt with a bag of jalapeño kettle chips. The lady at the counter was super friendly and helpful since there was somewhat of a bread selection. After helping me with my questions she rang me up and instructed me with how long I would need to wait since my order was a hot sandwich. After waiting for a brief period of time, she personally brought the sandwich out for me and told me to eat it promptly to enjoy it to the fullest (since it was hot). We stopped by for sandwiches on Thursday, October 26th, around 2 PM after visiting my brother in Huntington Hospital. The regular sized sandwiches we ordered: NY style pastrami on rye, tuna salad on french bread and the reuben on rye, were delicious and the perfect size so you didn't leave feeling over-stuffed. For larger/hungrier appetiites, there is a large size, which does not cost much more, $2. The sandwiches average $7, which is very reasonable. I would definitely return if in the area. I'm a Pasadena native in his mid-40s, born across the street at Huntington Hospital, been coming here my whole adult life. There is exactly one "Destination Sandwich" here. It's great that people order other things and, apparently, those things are also pretty good. If you have you personal favorite here and it's working for you, that's cool. But every long-time Pasadenan knows what you order here: the #2. Turkey/Bacon/Avocado, French roll. Mayo optional (not needed but not problematic). The four elements: (1) It's almost silly to come here and not get avocado. It's basically the point of the place. The avocado is always perfectly mushy-ripe. (2) The bacon is always perfectly light crisp. Never under, never burnt. (3) The turkey is, well, good turkey. The ceiling on turkey in general is rather low. This is good, solid turkey. (4) The roll. It's soft but not too fluffy/pillowy. The bread/filling ratio is spot on. But the synergy. These four things together (with the standard other add ons) make magic. The large is only $1.50 or so more than the regular, but unless you are a male teenage athlete, the regular will do you. Or split a large with your loved one/co-worker. This is why you come to Vince's Deli, like I have 200 times. read more

I initially decided to give Vince's a try because it's close to my office and the reviews and photos on Yelp seemed good. I called ahead for pick-up and ordered the New York style pastrami sandwich on a french roll. Pros -Good prices for a substantial sized sandwich. -Small but mighty team. There were 3 ladies behind the counter and they were tackling both in-store and phone orders. -Service is fairly quick, especially if you order ahead of time. You'll have to stand in the usually long line to pay thought. -Ample parking in the shopping complex when it's not busy. I found parking right away. Cons -Definitely gets busy during lunch time. I recommend calling your order ahead of time to save the wait. -Sandwich was lack-luster. I've definitely had way better pastrami sandwiches elsewhere. The bread was overly toasted so it was crunchy and crumbly. The dressing and ingredients were just okay...nothing memorable. I probably will give them a go again because of the reasonable prices and try a different sandwich. Second time is the charm, hopefully! read more

Definitely an old school sandwich shop! It originally was in SM but now it is in Pasadena. Large and delicious sammies to fill you up but this is a no-frills place. If you want gourmet...go somewhere else. If you want a decent Sammy at a decent price to fill you up, this is pretty good. I love this deli. I have been a SGV resident my entire life and whenever I'm the Pasadena area craving a sandwich I typically stop in here. Sure there is subway for $3 bucks less but an old friend introduced to this place a long time and I haven't looked back since. All of the ingredients are pretty fresh; even the potato salad is good. I would've given it 5 stars based on the food and prices alone (and the fact that they accept Apple Pay), but the wait for you to order your food plus the wait to get your food made me knock off a star. This review is a little late coming, but I've been wanting to write it for a while. I love sandwiches, so I had high expectations when I heard about Vince's deli. I was not disappointed. I went out on a limb and tried the roast beef cream cheese. Having lived in NY for a while, it always feels weird to not have salmon or bagels with cream cheese but I have to say it was a great combination. It was like a philadelphia roll (sushi) in SANDWICH FORM. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food is cheap and delicious. Never been much of a sandwich person but between this place and porta via, I think I just might convert! 5-6 bucks for a 6" delicious sandwich. (Add a dollar for a HUGE 12") Veggie Sub- Avocado, Mushrooms and Provlone Cheese. Yum! Strange how such simple ingredients taste so good. Btw, the avocado is a spread they made, not the actual slices. Pastrami & Mushroom Sub- Honestly, I'm no Pastrami expert but I've tried it at other places like The Hats and wasn't impressed.. it was always too salty or makes you feel terrible inside after all that fatty, salty meat. However, I do like the Pastrami here.. its soft, tender and they're quite generous with the meat. I think with the mushroom and lettuce helps pull this together so it doesnt feel like its too unhealthy. I wish they would add more mushrooms though. Get the french roll! It's delicious.. good bread is essential for a good sandwich! By the way, they put mayo& mustard, pickles, tomato and lettuce on everything. Tell them to hold something if you don't like it. I'm going to give the same warning I was given before entering the place. You will come out smelling like food, which is really odd cause this is a sandwich place. Strange enough, after lunch I indeed smelled like food, not only my clothes but my hair. I can't figure out what would make me smell so much... perhaps it's the abundance of bacon cooking in there. In any case, take this fair warning before going. My bf likes coming here for sandwiches because it's close to his work. So after a quick glance at the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted, Turkey, Roast Beef with Avocado. Is there a more divine combination than that? I think not! I opted for regular wheat bread, although my bf suggested the roll. He believes you get more with the roll. My sandwich came wrapped in white deli paper. It looked like a normal sandwich, except it was definitely packed well with lettuce, avocado and meats. Not as packed as PSC, but it also doesn't cost as much, so go figure. The meat was your typical deli meat and the bread was very much the bread you expect. It wasn't spectacular, but it was definitely above average. So why the 4 star? Why am I a fan of this place? It was a good sandwich, but what made me a fan is the care they put into the sandwich. I don't think a good sandwich is that hard to make, there's only so many components to a sandwich, bread, meat & cheese being the essentials. When I looked closely, my avocado was not just sliced and plopped on top... I noticed this when I took my first bite and avocados didn't just tumble out of my sandwich like it normally would, instead, they made an avocado and chopped red onion spread.
