Such good food! Had a slice of their daily special quiche with a side salad -- seriously one of the best quiches I've ever had. My friend got the mozzerella panzenella salad and loved that as well. I love coming to the Virginia Inn for lunch. The food is fresh and simple: sandwiches, salads, plus soup and quiche of the day. The meals are satisfying, but not over indulgent. They are perfect for the middle of a work day, because you won't go back to work too full and suffer through an afternoon just wanting a nap. Although, I haven't dare to try one of the fresh pies, given the tastiness of everything else on the menu this might be worth suffering for. It is good to note that this is not a place to go in a rush. I only go if I know I don't have to rush back to the office after lunch. Service is good, but sometimes they don't have enough people working for a large lunch crowd. read more

Great - Food, Service and Atmosphere! I've been to the Virginia Inn 3x. The atmosphere changes depending on the hour of the day. It can be a great lunch spot, or you can wind away the day and early evening chatting over cocktails with noone rushing you out. The staff (Odessa and Houston) were gracious, impeccable and prompt. The food is simple, inexpensive and spot on. Favorite are the braised greens from pike place and the ahi tuna salad. Both my colleagues and my friends love this place. It feels like a little french tabac/cafe without trying to be. You also don't get the fuss of the tabac owners. :) I highly recommend - Virginia Inn and look forward to visiting many times over! read more

My group and I were not sold on this place right away, but we sat at the bar until we made a final decision. In the meantime we were impressed by their selection of local brews and a sincere bartender who offered us many other options of places to eat around the city. Not being able to decide, we settled with staying put. I visited the Virginia Inn last week when I visited Seattle. It's a cute restaurant in a great location. We chose to eat at this restaurant due to the variety of the menu. They have a broad beer menu which was nice. Especially since they have 10 oz pours. For my dish I got the fish n chips which was amazing! It was crispy and greasy, just the way they should be! It's a huge portion size- you can definitely share amongst two people. The price was reasonable and the location is perfect! read more

(7 Dec 2011) nAs you can read below, I had a rough time of it here around 18 months ago; last night, I went back with a friend, and the experience could not have been more different. We were attending a beer-tasting events (mm, Manny's) and the courses were paired to the various beers. And they were just fantastic -- gorgeous pan-fried oysters, a medallion of pork that could not have been more perfectly prepared and seasoned, beautiful baked brie -- six courses and every one extremely well-executed. (The beer selection was great as well, even if the entire table could not convince me that an IPA counts as beer. Or, for that matter, as a beverage. Another pilsner, please.) So I'm adjusting my rating, leaving off one star because I don't exactly take back what I said before. I simply gave the place another chance and it paid off hugely. Yay. (previous experience 27 March 2010) Met a friend here on Friday night around 6 for dinner and a beer. The beer was acceptable; my friend's steak was acceptable if a bit oversauced; my snapper was possibly the worst possible use of $18 to be found in the neighborhood. (And this is Belltown; there are plenty of ways to misuse $18.) We're talking a sad hunk of poorly boned fish floating in broth -- yes, broth, not the promised "reduction" (hint: reduction is generally *reduced*) with some limp scraps of root veggies in the mix. I ended up mopping most of the dish up with my $5 plate of mashed potatoes -- no sides or starters with that $18, BTW -- with my friend apologizing profusely for suggesting the place. I've had a vegan tomato bisque and a cream of mushroom with pancetta and both times I've been blown away and left with regret -- Regret that I ordered a cup and not a bowl. Went for the first time and was pretty surprised by the selection I was given. Being gluten free is hard so finding that their fried food was gluten free was amazing since I still in my 15 years of being celiac haven't found a place that sold gluten free fried food. I had the calamari which came with a great aioli, simply delicious. The only reason I gave this place a 4 was because the fried fish had no flavor to it and was kind of burnt. Plus the "flourless cake" was actually just a block of hard dark chocolate fudge cut into the shape of a piece of caje. The gluten free carrot cake was very tasty however! All in all great place and very reasonable pricing. I had an app, main course, a soda and dessert all for 40 dollars!! read more

My favorite downtown lunchtime pub without a question. The food variety has improved since the refurb, and the quality is simply excellent. Not your usual lunchtime fare. Try the onion tart, or the fried duck-egg. The sandwiches are simple and so tasty, rather than the overblown "everything but the kitchen sink" sandwiches you get in most places. Portions are modest, but the quality more than makes up for that. Throw in a nice beer and wine selection, and you have a winner. I've always wondered why you can always get a seat even in the height of the tourist season, given that Pike Place Market is a block away. If you are gluten free, this is the place to go! Came here on a quiet Friday afternoon for drinks and a late lunch with my family. Great service! Very quiet and cute. We had burgers and salmon! The owner is gluten free and my mom was so excited to hear they have an almost completely gluten free kitchen. The deep fryer is celiac approved and they have new takes on dishes like fish and chips, calamari and French fries for the gluten free belly! We enjoyed every minute at the Virginia Inn! read more

Stopped by this restaurant with my friend for dinner service. The menu is small, so I expected a lot from the food. I ordered the pork belly and mussels from the small plate menu. The service took quite a long time and I was hoping that the food was going to be worth the wait. At first, I was pleased as the pork belly was quite tasty and the presentation was pretty. However, it went downhill from there. The mussels were tasty but gritty, the broth was too salty, and the bread it was served with was hard as a rock. When a restaurant cannot clean its shellfish properly, you know that it is cutting corners. I inquired about the specials and my waitress recommended me the halibut, which cost $30. This is usually a fair price for fresh fish. However, this turned out to be a mistake; not only was the portion tiny, the halibut came out completely RAW. Not undercooked, but RAW. I brought this to the attention of my waitress and she did not even apologize. I asked for another piece and she eventually brought me one. The second halibut was quite good--the fish was delicate but the skin crispy. I would have given this restaurant three stars as the food was overall good; however, there is no excuse for serving a tiny portion of raw halibut for $30 and then not apologizing for the mistake. A great Belltown lunch favorite I used to live opposite the VI before the recent renovation and its become one of my favorite places for lunch in Belltown for the last 10 years or so. Its basically best described as an up market pub, with some great beers and good food. They typically have great soups and quiche that are frequently changed daily and a range of sandwiches that are very yummy. The staff are always very friendly and keen to listen to your story, the owners Patrice and Jim are good for a laugh. If you are looking for a great lunch try it, come back often and get to know the staff and food. If the special happens to be the Fish & Chips, that a complete favorite. PS. As much as I like the new build out of the larger space, I still prefer the feel of the smaller size :) read more

I visited the Virginia Inn with my finace for their happy hour which is from 4:00pm-6:00pm. I was able to meet Chef Eric. He makes a mean collection of food. The wait staff was very professional and they represented the space well. We were waited on by an Odessa, great person. All in all we were impressed and liked their unique menu selection. My friend and I went for brunch on a beautiful Sunday morning and had the most delicious smoked salmon eggs benedict! The service was fast and friendly, food was excellent, and a great location just up the street from Pike Place Market. Definitely will be back next time I'm in town. Really liked the menu variety, and prices were very reasonable for such quality food. Met a client here for dinner on a Monday night. This is my first time in Seattle (I'm a Cleveland, OH native) and although it would have never been a place I would have thought to pick, it was cute and quiet and I loved the historic feel. Plus, it was probably one of the best, most flavorful meals I've ever had. Service was great, but there were also only about five or six other guests there, so that's to be expected. The Perfect Steak: We looked at several other restaurants in Seattle that were twice the price for a decent NY strip. Steak cooked to perfection!!
