On beautiful warm evenings, outside seating gets crowded and it is an hour wait if you don't have reservations. We sat inside. The food here is like an Asian inspired type. If you have an explorative palate, this place is for you! I don't so that's why I ordered the chicken sandwich and my fiancee got the double "butter" burger so we can trade half of our food. The chicken sandwich definitely had an Asian flavor. The menu said it had nuoc cham (a type of Vietnamese dipping sauce) and kewpie mayo (a sort of sweet Japanese mayonnaise). I can tell the chicken in the sandwich was made Asian style where it's double fried. It was good. Chicken was crispy and juicy the way I love it! Different from how I was expecting it to taste when I bit into it. My fiancee's hamburger was delicious. Yes it looks good and it tasted good. Lastly, I loved their salt and vinegar shoestring fries. I don't know why they are called that when they tasted like regular yummy crispy french fries. I loved them! Service was awesome. Our waitress definitely did an awesome job having tables inside and outside so I made sure to give her a good tip. I honestly thought we were not going to get good service because it was crowded outside and we were sitting inside. She proved us wrong and even checked on us more than twice. Cute beachside restaurant with great ocean views and an expensive menu. But that's all it is. Came here on a Sunday and it was surprisingly easy to get a table on the patio. Unfortunately, wasn't a huge fan of the food or the service.. which is why I've given them 3 stars. Food was ok but the prices were pretty outrageous (about $16 for sweet potato fries and ketchup) . What really got to me though was the lack of service on a fairly empty Sunday afternoon. We had to ask for our bill 4 times from the many different staff members until we were able to pay. In addition, the fire pit we were sitting at stopped working & despite the many open fire pit tables that were available .. our waiter just said " oh yah this one has been acting up and not working." Umm .. ok . Lastly, I had asked the waiter about removing mayo products from the 2 tapas I ordered. Sadly I had realized that the cauliflower still had the aoli.. didn't even bother to request it be removed as they took forever. I love this place....... for the ambiance. As a Redondo resident, this a "must" for all our out of state guests. Beautiful weather, magnificent views, live music (when you're lucky), great food, wonderful drinks......... when you get to order them. Unfortunately, the staff is more concerned with speaking with themselves rather than the guests. If you're outside, the servers/hostess' create a cocoon under their own tent. I have had good service and I have had bad service. Good service, usually when we are with an out of town crew. Bad service when it's just me and my boys (1adult, 1 18 yr old and me). Vista was a very pleasant surprise and something I can't wait to come back to in the near future! To get to Vista, you'll need to head towards the Hermosa Beach Pier. It's one of the furthest restaurants down / right next to the beach on the right side if you're headed straight towards the pier. (Parking-wise, you can park in the nearby structure or on the street.) Although the outside looks a bit older, the interior is cute with a very sailor ship modern vibe. Love the back area especially which has different seating as well as the bar and booth areas. Apparently on the weekend it gets quite busy so make sure to RSVP ahead of time. As some other reviews noted, the service is a bit on the laggier side, but the servers are super friendly and helpful with great advice. I would just try and order things in bunches so you don't have to wait too long for the server to get back to you. Let's get to what we ordered because the food/drinks are fantastic: *Dang Jang: The margaritas here are fantastic. The Dang Jang is probably the most interesting one out of the bunch as it's made from gochujang. It's not going to be to everyone's pallet, but my friend and I loved the complex flavoring around this. Slightly spicy with a distinct, heavier flavor. Loved the presentation. *Prickly Pear: Also a great margarita. A bit more on the sweet side yet not overly so and just was a smooth margarita to drink. *Kerry-On: This was the weakest drink out of the trio we tried. It's a play on a whiskey sour with tequila and again, the presentation was spot on and was plentiful. Unfortunately, I think too much simple syrup was adde and was way too sweet. *Tuna Tataki: Might have been the weakest dish we tried out of the bunch but still fairly good. Pretty much a tuna crispy rice with some variations like the puffed mochi and the nice presentation. I think I could have done without the tuna here personally which lacked the texture/meatiness in other sushi houses. *Jumbo Lump Crab and Yuzu Guacamole: Really delicious. The lavash chips are just so soft and perfect for these lumpy guac pieces that are filled with crab and yuzu. Addictive and easy to eat. *Crispy popcorn cauliflower: Oddly my favorite dish of the bunch! It literally comes with popcorn / chili / cilantro / sugar fish sauce and battered crispy cauliflower. It's better than it sounds, and we ate it up all the way thru! *Lobster Pasta Nero: Love the squid ink pasta here and uni butter. The lobster pieces aren't many, but they are thick. Taste-wise, fantastic dish. Do admit that the presentation is a bit messier than the other dishes, but eat it for the flavor! Pricing is on the medium side (around $110+ for all these dishes) as a heads-up. All-in-all, think this is super solid and would highly recommend! Can't wait to come back to try more! read more

Awesome restaurant in Hermosa Beach! Met a few friends here for lunch. My friend's bf is the chef and we've been wanting to come here for a while now. We sat outside sipping our Starbucks, waiting for this place to open at noon. A very friendly waitress named Dinah came out to let us know it's be a few minutes and to let us look at the menu. We went in when it was ready and sat down at a table on the left side, kind of near the bar. Everything on the menu looked amazing but we decided to go with the French fries, shishito peppers, hamachi, short ribs and the Kimchee fried rice. All was deliciously amazing. We were all getting full but asked what else small should we eat? Dinah made a few suggestions, so we went with the calamari fries, which were dipped in a gluten free panko and the tuna taki. Both very good!!! We were stuffed but my friend insisted on dessert! Got the sticky toffee pudding and this other chocolate coconut dessert. Overall amazing mouth watering food! While the interior is delightful with its modern-meets-vintage u-bar, full booth and window counter seats, and awesome cozy corner lounge with fireplace and TV, in the warm sunshine-y daytime, we opted for outdoor picnic-table-with-umbrella seating. FOOD (4/5) PALM SUGAR MONKEY BREAD: four hot Parker House rolls slathered with butter and toasted coconut! Very different from the sweet, sticky pull-apart bread we'd anticipated but interesting and good. HULI HULI CHICKEN: YUM! Who doesn't like chicken grilled amazingly crisp and deliciously glazed? Our half chicken came with four flavorful pieces of well-basted, savory-sweet chicken and two large slabs of grilled pineapple. The chicken was a teeny bit dry but still finger-lickin' good! Yessir, I picked up and ate the chicken with my bare hands like I was at KFC, happily licking my fingers along the way :)! MOJITO: strong and refreshing. It's my 3rd time in L.A but my first time in Hermosa Beach. My friends brought me to this restaurant after exploring the area and my god... everything I ate and drink was the bomb! We just moved back to the Hermosa area, and most restaurants we've discovered and re-discovered have been on top of their game. Hermosa Beach is a true gem and we consider ourselves extremely lucky to live here. My family and I decided to try Vista because we noticed when walking along the strand on a different day that the place seemed to have an awesome atmosphere, with music, outdoor seating, and just an overall chill vibe. We were in for a big surprise! Although we were seated quickly, it took about 15 mins before a server checked in on us, with one particular server walking by and ignoring us. This server was unfriendly, aloof, and seemingly uninterested in taking care of us. However, we noticed that he had no problem serving other tables quickly and attentively. We are a mixed couple, with me being white and spouse is not. I hate to think that this was the reason, but it most certainly was. There is no room for racism in Hermosa Beach, and I certainly won't tolerate it. The food was good, but not good enough to go back and put up with something that makes you feel like you don't belong. I can't even begin to imagine how my wife felt and certainly can't relate. This restaurant can't and won't last long until the owner fixes this cancer. I will caveat that there was another server that stepped in and was a bit more attentive. I've never wrote a Yelp review and probably never will again, but I couldn't ignore this. read more

First time I went to Vista during the day, loved it! Beautiful spot, drinks were delicious. But this review is for the second time, and because of the terrible terrible second experience I will never ever come back or recommend Vista. I wish I could give 0 stars for the second visit to Vista. Service was absolutely terrible - we had to flag a random waiter down after waiting for water and menus for over 30mins at our table. Finally ordered. Server had no idea of any allergen information for anything on the menu which was shocking. I asked if he could check with the kitchen for one item. HE NEVER CAME BACK (and yes we saw him servicing other tables throughout the night, he would actively ignore us.) Another waiter brought us some of our drinks. My friend NEVER GOT HER DRINK. Even after we asked numerous waiters walking by, no drink. AND THEY PROCEEDED TO CHARGE US FOR THE MISSING DRINK ON THE BILL. We didn't want to wait another minute in this place so we (graciously) paid and left. Vista management needs to retrain their wait staff in people to people interactions and how to be an actual waiter, and they need to give much more education about the menu ingredients as you could kill someone. read more

Near the bottom/left side within the kimichi rice. There is an orange thing. It turned out to be a piece of trash, it was a lable and it said "chips." My friend didnt had no idea what it was she was chewing on, until she pulled it out of her mouth and unfolded it. She thought it was a piece of chewy kimchi. Girls night out this past Saturday. Caught the sunset and the daytime drinking crowd was still lingering. The patio was full but we found a spot at the counter by the windows that face the ocean. It was perfect. However, don't expect anyone to come up to you and take your order. We waiting for quite a while until I decided to get up and go to the bar. I asked if I could order food right there with my drinks - and it was so hard to talk because of how loud it was. The bartender was really sweet and made our skinny margaritas perfectly (but in the tiniest glasses!). We ordered the following food items: Huli Huli Chicken Tulips: 6 came on the plate, chicken only at the end of the bone so it was very easy to eat. Delish. Blistered Shisito Peppers: this dish has a lot of peppers and a tasty citrus kewpie mayo spread that was brushed up against the bowl. Great for 2-5 people. Salt & Vinegar Fries: shoestring style fries served in a cone with lemon garlic aioli. Fries were slightly undone and could have been crispier but the taste was spot on! Charred Watermelon salad: the watermelon piece was huge, size of a brick and looked like cooked bluefin tuna. The piece of burrata wasn't enough for the size of the fruit but the flavors were there.
