I've loved every visit at Wabi Sabi since they've opened, I can't believe I haven't left a review yet! My go to's are always the FD potatoes, the takoyaki, and any of the skewers. I've never been a mushroom girl until I've had their mushroom skewers. I can never help myself and order 5 or 6. When it comes to drinks, I love their entire menu. I typically go with the no need for uber: a mocktail that's the perfect shout of sweetness. I really appreciate all the love and artistry that goes into every aspect of this restaurant. Can't wait to go back!

Stumbled upon their late night happy hour. The vibe was dim lit & overall a nice atmosphere. We had the spring rolls which while they were freshly prepared I wasn't a huge fan of the mushroom inside. We didn't finish those. FD potatoes were uniquely fried with a nice crunchy exterior. Perfect to share & munch on. They have a green chili oil which tasted very grassy. I wasn't a huge fan. I'd probably never return but it's good to try once.

The service was excellent, the environment was cozy and calm, (although I expected to hear Japanese music but didn't) we got different tastes of sushi's and fried balls of something :) the food taste was good, the taste was not the best but it felt to be healthy. The soup was great though. I will return to taste more items of the menu.

I was skeptical to visit Wabi Sabi after seeing such mixed reviews online. Luckily, I didn't experience any issues with service that I kept seeing. In fact, the service I received was excellent. My server was very attentive and even offered me and my friend free tea! In terms of ambience, the atmosphere was great. Dim inside lighting with plenty of natural light. I came during the day, but I imagine it'd feel more intimate when it's darker out. The food was good but a little too pricey in my opinion. I enjoyed the takoyaki, but it tasted like any other restaurant's. The Ushi Don came with three skewers and a lot of rice (along with some toppings). The chicken was delicious. The beef was a little tough. The entire dish was also not as hot as I was expecting it to be, while the takoyaki was definitely fresh and almost burned my mouth because I was impatient! There was also complimentary miso soup, which I appreciated, as it wasn't listed on the menu. If I came back, I would skip the beef skewers and maybe try a cocktail.

Lovely little restaurant that is super romantic. Low key lantern lights, chill music, extremely clean-- this is a great date place! They have robata grilled meats, hand rolls, various rice bowls-- all perfectly cooked. The drink menu is amusingly almost twice as extensive as the food menu, but has some pretty amazing combinations and off-menu special mixes. This is the first truly Japanese restaurant that I've seen in Connecticut, much less Hartford. Truly a nice gem, but if you're hungry, be prepared to spend. Portions are on the smaller size and it adds up! Staff is very attentive and you won't be neglected.

I was blessed enough to have met Gao at wabi sabi for my fiancés birthday. I had planned for 17 of us to check this place out since it's new. They had their soft opening about a month ago. I was skeptical to try it out since the beginning will have some technical minor issues, but based on the photos from IG I wanted to give it a try. The drinks at this location were very presentable and yummy. Even the names of the beverages were very eye catchy. Let's start off by saying, this is place serves Asian tapas. It's not a place you come to eat until you are full unless you have no problem ordering a bunch of stuff. I wish I have taken more photos, but the guys at the table so not wait for photos. They just dive right in. There's a bunch of different things you can order from, apps, skewers, sushi, rice, noodle, it's all finger food. If started off rough in the beginning with getting the drink orders out, but it was a Friday night. It's going to be busy. The owner came out with some mochi desserts and a cake for my fiance for his birthday! He def made this experience great for us and we left happy! He is extremely nice and wants to turn this place into something in west Hartford. The restaurant is the old pho 135 on Main Street, glad it's not there anymore-wasn't a big fan of it. I love supporting new businesses and seeing new Asian places pop up in CT. Check this place out and if you meet Gao, let him know Anny sent yall! We will be back again; probably not with a big group but def for drinks!!

I've been meaning to dine at Wabi Sabi since I heard about their opening and finally got the opportunity tonight. I didn't know what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised by my whole dining experience at this restaurant. Upon entering the space is stylishly decorated, well-lit (very warm dim overhead lamps and a backlit wall), clean and had a relaxing izakaya vibe. Service was extremely prompt and very attentive-- the complimentary tea served was perfect for the cold weather and our waitress helped answer any questions we had about the food. We both ordered rice bowls and shared a takoyaki appetizer-- the takoyaki was warm, flavorful and fluffy on the inside; my unagi don tasted simple but comforting and paired well with the togarashi provided on the table. Only thing I would say is that they could have been more generous with the avocado and unagi for the amount of rice you get but I finished my bowl pretty satisfied. Overall I was happy with my experience at this new restaurant and I look forward to trying their cocktails in the future-- all the specialty cocktails on the menu looked really yummy. Definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try.

New Japanese restaurant! Only place in the area to enjoy skewers, rice bowls, and drinks. For skewers, chicken gizzard, pork belly, beef are my favorites. Can't go wrong with fried rice or yakisoba. Drinks look pretty, since I don't drink, mocktails is the way to go, plus my toddler can have a sip. Low key and chill vibe to hang by the bar area. There's a private dining room too which could be nice for special occasions. Being in west Hartford where parking is hard to find, glad there's a free side parking lot for customers if there's no street parking in the front.

The dumplings were good, but honestly, the sauce was the star of the show. It was so flavorful and really brought everything together. I also liked the color-coded system they use to show which filling is which. It made the ordering process easy and helpful. This place is definitely great for takeout. You can call in your order or order in store, and the wait was not long. There is not a lot of seating, and I would not describe it as intimate, but it does have a homey feel. The owner came out, spoke to us, and served us, which made the experience feel personal. Overall, I was really happy to find a place with gluten-free dumplings, and I would definitely go back.

The chicken and corn dumplings are the best, but the beef and cabbage dumplings are also very munchable. Other good things to chomp down are their deep-fried eggplant chunks, which is unhelpfully listed as "eggplant box" on their online takeout menu. I ordered it not knowing what kind of eggplant dish I'd get. Happily, the box contained something tasty and eggplant-y when I opened it. Their noodle dishes are simple but good. The lo mein chicken noodles I ordered had a good texture and flavor. Being gluten-free didn't take away from the taste at all. In fact, I couldn't really tell the difference. It's not necessary for me to eat gluten-free, but it's nice that Gold Dumpling offers a good option for those that must.

Absolutely love this place! My go to spot for take out or a casual meal in west Hartford…read more Everything they make is so authentic and packed with flavor. Almost every single we've ordered is certifiably crave-able (my mouth is watering thinking about it right now!) and loved my entire family. My favorites: the green beans (!!!), cucumber with minced garlic, any of the dumplings, shredded pork with 5 spices tofu (an acquired taste!) and any of their beef entrees. We've had amazing fried rice too but then forgot what we ordered and the chicken fried rice wasn't as good... still delicious though! Will definitely add more pictures as I continue to go pretty much every Sunday!

I'm back! The restaurant is located on 156 Shield St., West Hartford, CT. This is Szechuan. I'm…read morestarting it off with a Sapporo. Sapporo Premium Beer is Japan's oldest beer brand, founded in Hokkaido in 1876 by brewer Seibei Nakagawa. Known for a crisp, refined taste with a clean, dry finish, it is a pilsner-style lager (roughly 4.7-5.2% ABV) frequently packaged in iconic silver cans. It pairs well with Japanese food and is known for its high-quality ingredients and brewing standards. It was founded in 1876 during Japan's Meiji-era modernization in Hokkaido, it is the nation's first and oldest beer. The world headquarters of Sapporo Breweries is in Ebisu, Shibuya, Tokyo, and it also operates a renowned museum in Sapporo. As for taste, it's a golden-colored, light-to-medium-bodied lager with mild bitterness, a subtle sweet malt aroma, and a sharp finish.. While technically a Japanese beer, many cans sold in the U.S. are brewed in places like Escondido, California, and Richmond, Virginia, Key products include Sapporo Premium Lager, Sapporo Black, and Yebisu. This is THE beer to have with this cuisine (Chengdu or Szechuan). This is good! It's ice cold too! For our appetizers, we are having the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings and Spicy Flavored Jelly Noodles which are dressed in scallions, ginger, garlic, celery and cilantro. These are good! They come with soy sauce. The noodles are made from mong beans. Mung beans (Vigna radiata) are small, green legumes native to India, widely cultivated in Asia, and known as green gram or moong bean. They are a highly nutritious, versatile ingredient, rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, used in both savory dishes (soups, curries, noodles) and sweet desserts, often sprouted for increased nutritional value. Mung beans are easy to cook, require little to no presoaking, and offer health benefits like antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. I am also having the Seafood Hot and Sour Soup (small size). This seafood soup is good! Not too spicy! It's similar to the standard Chinese hot and sour soup in taste. For my entree, i'm having the Sliced Chicken with Crunchy Rice. This is made with chicken slices, crunchy rice, black fungus, ginger, scallions, garlic, pickled chili peppers, lettuce and pea sprouts. They fold the crispy rice and put it on top. This is piping hot! Spicy too! For dessert, we are having a Chocolate Truffle (made with Zabione cream center surrounded by chocolate gelato and caramelized hazelnuts topped with cocoa powder), Cappuccino Truffle (made with cappuccino gelato with a heart of espresso covered with coffee flavored merinique sprinkles) and Capps Pistachio (custard gelato swirled with chocolate and pistachio gelato ago topped with praline pistachios). Zabaione (or zabaglione) is a classic Italian dessert made from whipped egg yolks, sugar, and sweet wine (traditionally Marsala) cooked gently over a double boiler until light, foamy, and custard-like. It can be served warm as a sauce over fruit or cookies, or chilled as a standalone dessert, often garnished with berries or biscotti. The name comes from the Venetian word for "whipped," reflecting its airy texture. These are absolutely great!
