I finally understand the hype! My girl always orders the Hash Brown Bowl at Waffle House, so this time I decided to see what she's been talking about--and it absolutely did not disappoint. I ordered the Hash Brown Bowl with grilled chicken, onions, and eggs with cheese. I made sure to specify that I wanted the cheese on the eggs, not the hash browns, and I asked them to make sure that chicken was SEASONED. I also added a side of grits. Man... this breakfast was GOOD! The chicken was the standout for me--well-seasoned, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Nothing was bland, the eggs were on point, the hash browns hit like they were supposed to, and the grits completed the whole meal. As a chef, seasoning matters to me, especially when it comes to something as simple as grilled chicken. Whoever was on that grill understood the assignment. My girl definitely put me on with this one. I had to see what all the hype was about, and now I get it. This is officially my favorite breakfast meal right now. As a Floridian I have a unashamed love of Waffle House. For the uninitiated, Waffle House is a chain of restaurants that serve breakfast around the clock. The first Waffle House was conceived by founder Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner who met when Rogers purchased a house from Forkner. The two men hit it off and decided to go into business together. The first Waffle House opened on Labor Day weekend in 1955 in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Rogers wanted to create a restaurant where you could get food quickly while still having table service 24 hours, seven days a week. The name Waffle House was chosen because waffles were the most popular and profitable item on the menu. By the fourth restaurant in 1960, they began franchising Waffle Houses. In the 1970's the company sold off the first Waffle House restaurant. They purchased it back in 2007, restored it, and turned it into a company museum. Today Waffle House has 2,100 locates in 25 mainly southern states. If you have ever taken a southern road trip or needed breakfast in the wee hours of the morning after partying, you likely have dined at a Waffle House. This Waffle House is convenient to I-95 via Commercial Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale. Craving a hearty breakfast, we headed over on a Saturday morning. This restaurant is a little smaller than others I have been in but the no frill, greasy spoon atmosphere is the same. I always enjoy the historic photos on the wall. My standard order of happiness, a trifecta of perfection is a a pecan waffle, hash browns, and a plate of bacon. Of course you have to get coffee. The staff was running the kitchen like a well oiled machine and everyone was prompt and friendly. I couldn't help but notice how hard the staff was working to keep everything clean. The prices may have gone up over the years but the nostalgia I have for Waffle House is priceless. read more

We have fond memories of coming here -- and to other Waffle House locations while on the road. We loved the people watching and the old timey servers. But we had not been to this location for years. They closed during Covid and then they did take out only for a while. So maybe over 5 years? We decided to grab a quick dinner not far away so here we came. There's a big sign up in the window saying takeout only, but in smaller print it says between 8:30 pm - 9 pm. It's confusing if you didn't read the entire sign! We were greeted on entry. And told to sit wherever we'd like to sit. We chose a booth. There were only a few tables occupied. We got our old standby order. It's pretty much the same although it used to include "meat" (bacon/sausage) and prices are much higher, of course. We both got their cheese 'n eggs with raisin toast. I got hash browns instead; and he got the grits. And he added on sausage patties, well done. Oh my, the chef cooked those eggs perfectly -- creamy and cheesy. Yum. The plain hash browns were fine. Such a huge portion that I took some home. And I added some extra butter to the sweet raisin toast. Forgot how much I enjoyed this combo. The chef checked on us to make sure all was okay. After eating, we paid at the central cash register. And when we were leaving, we were invited to come back again. We didn't realize what we'd been missing. read more

Our server was super polite and friendly, served us quickly but never pushy to get us out, even though the place was packed on this Sunday. Can't describe the place any other way than "it looks like every other Waffle House we've been to. But we love it and that's half the charm. I popped in This waffle House again last weekend, and it was great bite again. I've always liked a waffle House stop in, and this one is one of the best I've grabbed lunch at. We really usually get breakfast. I realized a couple years ago that their website had a pretty quick way to order food togo so I put in an order the other morning. I stopped in a few minutes later to a busy place. There was a line of people waiting to get a spot, although there were spots open at the counter. The gal at the front had my order right after I said my name. She noted a couple things missing from the bag, added them, then got it right to me. I got my hasbrowns smothered, covered, diced and topped. For those that don't know the wafflehouse hashbrown lingo, that's with onions with tomatoes, cheese and chili. I picked ordered the food online and it was so easy to do so. I ordered the Allstar that includes a waffle, eggs, hash browns or grits, bacon or sausage and toast for $13.50. I added scrambled with cheese which is an up charge. I loved this meal and it is worth it for the amount of food that you get. The parking is limited but it is free. I got there around 11am and it was busy but as soon as I walked the associate helped me. The prices are very good and reasonable here. The only thing I don't like is the coffee. There is no option for iced or flavor coffee. The place is usually loud and busy but I really like that you get to see the chef make your food. I recommend this place for a good breakfast and they usually are open 24 hours but this I think closes at 9pm. read more

Shopped at BJs and went for late breakfast to close-by Waffle House. Had not been in one in years. It was awful. We each ordered a waffle. Came with a little closed container of a whipped something or other with palm oil in it. Asked for real butter, got something but the server really didn't know what it was. Nobody asked if we wanted water and they brought 2 waffles out on one plate and asked if we (a couple) wanted an extra plate. The syrup wasn't tasty and the waffles were very soft and not at all toasty. Won't go back there again. Denny's is far superior and that is not saying a lot. read more

Waffle House for the win during Covid-19. Now, let me say that I'm not a frequent visitor of Waffle House in general. I've never even been to this location prior to this visit, but I do love breakfast foods. I love diners and in general of the W. Houses I've been to before, I've always enjoyed what I've gotten. One day recently I woke up really craving breakfast food so I decided to drive over and pick up something. There were a few people in front of me. Because of COVID-19, the doors weren't not open to public, you could order outside or pre-order online or via phone. So I walked up to the makeshift counter and placed my order which was a breakfast sandwich (sausage, egg, and cheese) on white toast. I opted out of Texas toast you know to save calories and a double order of hash browns with cheese. I'd say I waited about 10 minutes for my to-go order. I don't think it would have taken that long normally but given the circumstances, I get it. Even with the short drive home, everything was hot and fresh and wrapped perfectly so nothing was out of order or messy. The sandwich was wrapped separately from the potatoes so no cross contamination. Definitely when I'm needing a quick breakfast fix I'll give them another order- or two. read more

If you are ever in the Pompano Beach area, I would not recommend you go to this waffle house. We had a waitress that would get offended each time we asked her for something. Plus we noticed that most customers were African American. She interacted with them well. With us she was bothered whenever we asked her for anything. I don't know what her problem was, but the fact that she gave us substandard service tells me that she preferred to speak to other customers rather than us. It also took a while for our orders to get to our table. When we would ask her for the status of the orders, she would tell us yes, I know, I know, etc. When I asked for the final bill, I reviewed it. She came up to me and started pointing out exactly what each of the numbers meant with an annoyed tone of voice, even though in the bill, I couldn't quite understand her writing. I told the waitress that I always check my bills at every every single restaurant no matter what, and I tabulate for accuracy. She wanted to see it so that she can tell me that everything is accurate. It is rare that I get these type of waitresses, but in the end I did speak to the manager and gave him my concern. When I paid my bill, I also gave the cashier my concern when I was asked how the service was. I was fine with everyone else in the restaurant, because everyone was being a hard worker, except for this waitress. Everyone working in the restaurant was African-American, and I interacted with them very well. I admire how hard-working they were, even the cashier and the manager, who took their time to hear my concerns. But I can also tell you with accuracy that after we were done the bus person seem to be taking our plates and silverware read it quickly, making it seem like they wanted us to leave to make room for others. In the end, I don't mind going to a waffle House. We won't be coming back to this one ever again. read more

I just started to eat my food while it was hot when I was then targeted to then move my car again after already moving it to a designated spot the manager asked me to move to. The "atmosphere" of the restaurants is ubiquitous and becomes very nostalgic. Importantly, the coffee is excellent and is served inP a bottomless cup. The only negative is the new menu. For some reason, (to save money), the menu has been reduced in choices dramatically. I don't like it. They have only one selection for a waffle, their namesake. I really don't know what to say but that it was such a treat and experience for this Northern city boy to finally make it to Waffle House. The place was exactly as it looked in the movie, the coating of film/sweat on the seats/tables included. I went as far as to take a picture in front of the sign to commemorate the experience - "I feel like I'm in a HS movie!" - is what I captioned it. I got a steak bowl with hash browns smothered with cheese, mushrooms, onions, etc. It was not the most creative food in the world, but I love potatoes and it hit the spot on this long drive home. Now again, a solid WH is a 5 star in my book, so this is a rating relative to other locations. - Service: Almost non-existent. First and last time ever coming to Waffle House. I go in person to place a to-go order for 1 waffle and a hash brown. The customer service was HORRIBLE. The woman at the door taking my order was very dry and on her cell phone having a personal conversation so her attention to customers was absent. I wait for 30 minutes. And nothing. They tell everyone to wait outside for their order, but don't have a speaker or someone to bring the orders out / let us know when our order is ready. After 45 minutes and 15 other highly upset waiting customers, I get my COLD FOOD since it was just sitting behind a counter.
