Tried this place out for the first time to celebrate my mother's birthday and thought this was a decent place. Service : We came in with a reservation right when they opened at 11:30 AM on Saturday. Because the only host working will thoroughly explain the menu and ordering instruction to each group once they are seated, there is a bit of a line to get seated, even with a reservation. Food: The food is satisfactory - the meat quality is beautifully marbled. The sukiyaki broth flavorful and paired super well with the meat and the vegetable platter. The egg dip is a match made in heaven with the sukiyaki. IN THEORY, wagyu and handrolls sounds like an amazing concept, but i felt ROBBED. The handrolls are rice heavy with flavorless protein (tried most of the fish + the lobster + scallop handrolls). The fish was feeling like minced frozen mush with no flavor. As someone who is anti - wasting food, I downed all the handrolls, felt like I ate a pound of rice, and was feeling robbed of stomach space for wagyu. My biggest takeaway: skip the handrolls (or don't be greedy and order like 6 at a time like I did. Maybe that was a mistake on me.) and get your moneys worth through the wagyu!! If you are a buttery pastry lover, get the egg tart. It's delectable with a super crispy flakey crust and a not-too-sweet filling. read more

We got served by Brendan, Fanda, and Denny which were all wonderful. Labor intensive job since everything needs to be personally served and plated. The tasting experience was nice and filling but if you need more meat, there's an AYCE hot pot portion with 4 soups to choose from (sukiyaki, tomato, miso, and dashi) the initial cut from the tasting menu was a bit chewier than expected. We came around 6:40 and had to wait about an hour on a Friday night. I've been to mikiya and chubby cattle bbq from chubby club and this is a nice tasting experience but the meat quality isn't as good. The desserts are not good, the Mille crepe, the crepes are thick and the crème is not smooth, while the mochi is a weird and frozen texture. Ambiance is nice with a cute countertop experience. My party and I waited over an hour just to be told when we were closer on the waitlist that they can't take us. Go early and expect a long wait. Came here on a Friday afternoon around 2 pm with a party of 5 and were pleasantly surprised there was no wait. We sat at the bar and had such a great experience from start to finish. The Sukiyaki Tasting Menu is a lot of food, by the time we got to the AYCE shabu portion I was already stuffed. Highlights for me were definitely the sashimi and beef tartare from the Chef's Daily Special, the A5 Wagyu handroll with foie gras, and the A5 Wagyu striploin with the premium pasteurized egg (I love eggs). A couple small misses, they were out of the poke salad and chicken karaage which I was looking forward to. The tempura felt a bit heavy and overkill for me personally, and I would probably ask for lighter seasoning on both the beef and udon next time since the sukiyaki sauce leaned a bit strong. I am more of a purist when it comes to letting the wagyu and dishes shine. Service was great, shoutout to the two Andrews who took care of us. We were so full we completely forgot about dessert at the end. Private parking lot so no issues with parking. Be prepared to smell like bbq though because the vents do not seem to work with the A/C blasting. The meat quality was p good, some pieces were rly fatty & kinda chewy but overall really good!! sushi quality was rly fresh. One of our sashimi pieces had hair but they quickly replaced it. Tip: if u feel like the meat sauce/meat itself is not salty or sweet enough just let them know and they'll adjust on ur next dish The experience itself is very nice!! The sashimi was so fresh, the A5 Wagyu was super delicious and it melts in your mouth, and I love the all you can eat shabu shabu where you can choose your broth and enjoy ayce A4 ll beef. The mochi dessert was okay. It didn't have the mochi texture that I was expecting. I left super full. We went on Monday for dinner right when they opened so there wasn't any line. Parking was great. I really wanted to like this place, but it ended up being a pretty disappointing experience overall. We started with the poke salad, and the fish did not taste fresh at all--it had a strong, fishy smell that immediately put me off. The steamed egg that followed was just bland and lacked any real flavor. Then came the uni handroll, which was another letdown--the uni didn't taste fresh either. The main course was the only highlight. The three pieces of A5 Wagyu were actually very good and clearly the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, that alone didn't justify the $100 per person price tag (I chose the sukiyaki option). The final straw was dessert. The mochi had a weird, chalky texture and didn't resemble mochi at all--honestly pretty unpleasant. The crepe cake was served frozen. Overall, aside from the Wagyu, the quality was really lacking, especially for the price. I was surprised given that they're under the same group as Mikiya--the difference in quality is huge. After they left the Chubby Group I've been hoping that WM would replace that space and for a while I was kind of disappointed with what WM was and how expensive the menu was for the lackluster experience that you get but now its different. They've revamped their whole menu to no longer be constrained by a limited menu and instead of trying to focus too much on presentation the new menu actually focuses more on quality while being affordable. The most basic price point is practically equivalent to Mikiya while getting better quality meats as well as the AYCE hand rolls, appetizers, and even the desert. Not in the mood for too much shabu? Go splurge on the handrolls! Don't want that? Get some of the new tallow fried chicken wings! Just want some dessert? You better make sure to leave some room for the egg tarts, probably the most unexpected item in the menu with how hot as they serve it to you. The new experience also now presents you with a tablet to order from which is allocated per 2 people. Service quality may vary depending how busy the place is so I would suggest ordering a new batch of meat as soon as you get them. read more

Did the diamond tier ayce for my cousin's birthday. The place was smaller than I thought, but still pretty nice and clean. You can choose two different broth, I chose the tomato and dashi. The meat quality is amazing, melts in your mouth. But they took such a long time to bring the beef out to you. We waited for 15 minutes, and it wasn't that busy. Just two other parties of 2. The lobster roll was very fishy. The sashimi quality was really good, thick and fresh cuts of yellowtail, tuna and salmon. Their karaage was pretty good, light and crispy. The matcha Mille crepe was pretty bad, it was rough and flavor wasn't good. It was definitely not light, delicate, and silky that melts in your mouth. The staff were trying to convince us to get membership, but with the slow service and hit and miss for some dishes. I didn't proceed with getting the membership. read more

The menu is different from the last time we were here. Essentially simpler with just three tiers of shabu shabu with hand rolls. My opinion really just comes from the concept itself. It feels like it's a mix of Mikiya and Chubby Cattle since it has both hot pot and sukiyaki. I went with a group of five, where three of us got shabu shabu and two got sukiyaki, so I got to try both. The sukiyaki was good at first, but it got boring pretty fast. Everything is cooked in the same sweet soy sauce, so the flavor doesn't really change. At Chubby Cattle, you can pick different types of meat and flavors, so it stays more interesting. Also, I know it's in the name Wagyu Master, but there wasn't much other than just Wagyu. It was mostly just Wagyu and a few pieces of sashimi at the start. For the same price, I could've gone to Chubby Cattle, gotten their diamond tier, and had a better experience with more sashimi and variety of meat including Wagyu. The hot pot had the opposite problem. It didn't have enough flavor, especially the soup bases. The sauces on the side helped, but it still felt kind of plain. It also didn't have as many options compared to Mikiya. For the same price, I would rather go to Mikiya and get their $88 menu, which is just a better hot pot experience overall. Overall, the idea of combining hot pot and sukiyaki sounds cool, but it doesn't really work that well. Both parts feel weaker compared to restaurants that focus on just one. For the price, you're better off going to Chubby Cattle or Mikiya instead in my honest opinion. Based on the Yelp page for the Pasadena location, the San Jose location feels noticeably lacking by comparison. I would say half of the items available in Pasadena were not offered in San Jose, yet the pricing remains the same. read more

First time trying Wagyu Master with a few friends of mine. Ive eaten at Mikiya, Chubby Cattle, and a couple other related places, but I thought this experience was pretty cool. We ate an early dinner on a Thursday. Everyone gets their own pot and for the sukiyaki experience I was surprised by our food being individually cooked in front of you. I felt the slices of meat were thicker than other places for cooking in the pan, which I was surprised about. AYCE option came as a hot pot, which for the additional price was worth it. We were on our own cooking that part of the meal. Brandon was amazing with cooking our sukiyaki meats to our liking. Rex was also very attentive as our server. The team made sure our experience was great. Indoors seems better as a group of two. We had a group of 4 and it was a bit difficult to have a conversation due to the straight bar seating, but we still had a great time! There were seats outside with a burner on the table, but feel the experience would be different. Individual pots were really nice and the attention given by the team was really great. Was lucky enough to come to the soft opening and not have too long of a wait. You sit bar style and it's fun to see the chefs at work. Shout out to Denny for guiding us and giving us a pleasant experience. We did the sukiyaki tasting menu and it was really flavorful. The meats were tender and cooked to perfection. I can say for the price point it can be a bit steep, but this is a5 waygu. We didn't do the ayce addition, but it can be worth it. What stood out for us was the egg tarts. My fiance said this is the best egg tart he ever had, even better than Hong Kong. That definitely says a lot. You're paying for the experience and quality ingredients. Tried for the first time and did not disappoint. Moment you walk in, the host greeted you and once seated, explained in details the menu. Opted for sukiyaki style. The starter was great with favorite being uni in egg custard. The A5 wagyu hand roll with uni was good too ... a bit too many nori though which made it a bit too chewy. Then the A5 main course which were cooked in front by the staffs. We were served by Kyle and Scarlet who were excellent in explaining how each will be prepared and explained options to try different broth. This was then followed by AYCE selections of A5 & A4 meat.
