Wahoo's can add 7,000 items to the menu if they want, but the undisputed heavyweight champion of the franchise is still the crispy fish taco. Years ago it was flounder (I think), now it's pollock, but whatever fish is volunteering for the cause these days, it's still carrying the entire operation on its back. I ordered two tacos and a fish/beef bowl. The tacos? Good. Dependably good. The kind of good that reminds you why you walked through the door in the first place. The bowl was a tale of two proteins. The fish was okay--perfectly edible, no complaints. The beef, however, tasted like it may have been sourced from the final resting place of a retired baseball glove. Was it beef? Was it sporting equipment? Science may never know. Service was very good--friendly, fast, and the best part of the experience not wrapped in a tortilla. Total damage: $43 including tip. Just recently, I came by here for some tacos and a drink after a long day at the beach. Wahoo's Fish Tacos has been serving the SoCal community fast casual surf food since the 1980s. Their food is a mixture of Mexican, Brazilian and Asian cuisine. Wahoo's has a long-time partnership with the surfing and skateboarding community. If you have never been to a Wahoo's, you basically pick your entrée item and one of several protein options. They have combos that come with a selection of beans and rice or items a la carte. Perfectly crispy batter, flaky white fish, and that sauce, whatever they put in it, I want the recipe. The cabbage slaw had the right crunch without drowning in dressing, and the tortillas were clearly fresh. But honestly? Lynn made the whole experience. Super attentive without hovering, gave us great recommendations when we couldn't decide, and checked in at exactly the right moments. Stopped on our way home from out of town, came right before it opened so parking was right out front with no problem. Been here in the afternoon and it's a little more difficult to find parking so close. The workers here were extremely attentive and helpful, but I was not as impressed with the food. We ordered chicken enchiladas with black beans and rice. It wasn't bad just wasn't wow. My wife and I were downtown Huntington Beach perusing the surf shops and wanted to stop somewhere for a bite. Generally, we really enjoy Wahoo's so we decided to stop in. Came to use the restroom, stayed for the good food. FYI: The restroom is for customers only! This is true for every shop and restaurant in this area by the beach. So we grabbed an early lunch after we relieved ourselves. Yummy. Being so close to the ocean, I decided to get a fish taco. I literally never get a fish taco unless I'm in Southern California. It just doesn't seem right. But Huntington Beach is a great place to grab a fish taco, and Wahoo's makes great fish tacos. They are fried crispy on the outside, with tender and flaky fish on the inside, loaded with green and purple cabbage and carrots and cilantro, with a dash of cilantro dressing, all on a corn tortilla. One fish taco is satisfying for a nice little lunch. I also got the chips and guacamole, and the guacamole is house-made. It had chunks of avocado in it, and tasted fresh. My lunch was great. If you're not into guacamole, they also have a chip and salsa basket for a couple of bucks. Wahoo's also has several different salsas at their complimentary salsa bar -- pico de gallo, red salsa, green salsa, avocado salsa, etc. -- so you can just get some chips and load up on a variety of different salsas. I love Wahoo's! My wife and I used to live in Huntington Beach and regularly visited the Main Street location. We moved about 17 years ago and visit once or twice a year. The #2 plate with two fish tacos, rice, and beans is great. It's my go-to dish. I like the citrus slaw option with white beans. I had a couple of those plates, but I tried something different this evening - the protein bowl. You get a choice of two types of protein, so I chose grilled fish and chicken. Then there is a steamed vegetable mix with broccoli, red and green bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Add a crunchy slaw mix and some salsa fresca, and you have a delicious, healthy plate. It's topped with some fresh sliced avocado. I can't wait to return and will be back tomorrow before heading to the airport. read more

A little place by shopping area in Huntington beach walk, accross from Jack's surf shop. They have some outdoor sitting and indoor as well. Since California has lifted their mask mandatory, none of the customers is wearing mask. The servers, some were mask and some done. Meal can be ordered online or at the counter. It is self serving. They give you a paged so you will be paged when food is ready to pick up. We had shrimp bowl ($14.50), maui bowl ($14.50), #1 combo (quesadillas, rice and slaw for $7.50), drinks and coffee for $2.50 each. The shrimp bowl is pretty tasty, half dozen of medium shrimp slightly grilled, well cooked rice and fresh slaw. The maui bowl is including teriyaki beef, rice and slaw. Beef is cooked well and very tender. Overall, it is a good place to grab a quick meal while having good time at surf city. It is not fancy or gourmet per se. The only negative thing is their slow services. We waited for over 20 min to get our meals. It is probably not the workers' fault. It is a busy weekend (Father's day, reopening Calfironia,etc.) and there are 2 or 3 people working both front and back kitchen. read more
