My first visit here and it wasn't too bad! There are a few other coffee places within distance but I think Walden's has the most convenient parking for being in this area. Walking in the ambiance didn't resemble a warm and cozy atmosphere. Looked like they were doing some remodeling on the inside. I wasn't greeted by the person behind the counter. After staring at the menu on the wall that's when I let her know I was ready to order. Ordered a hazelnut oat milk latte and I enjoyed it. Every time I go to Walden's I want to like it. Prior to my first review the lower stars this time are just based on being a little disappointed. This super busy local coffee shop just continues to leave me feeling like I overspent and got just okay food. Today we got 2 coffees(1 mocha, 1 drip) which are just run of the mill. We also got two breakfast burritos with sausage which are just average and not worth the $14.95 per burrito. Maybe I just prefer a more "classic" burrito and it's me who won't accept that I won't get that here or that I just don't think a fast-casual coffee house is serving anything worth the price tag. Probably will choose to go other places in the future unless I find myself in a pinch again in the food deserts of Reno. read more

This darling, convivial breakfast and lunch diner is very warm and welcoming, in large part due to the owners and the carefully selected staff who always greet their guests with a big smile and go out of their way to make you feel important and appreciated. The food is always fresh and delicious and the menu has a unique, appealing flare and features plenty of variety to suit every taste. $10+tip for a small orange juice and a minuscule muffin, I'm glad I didn't order an actual breakfast. Couple that with unpleasant customer service, and eh, I've definitely had better (and for less) in this town. I thanked a barista after receiving my order, who responded with, "yeah." That's about how I felt afterwards, too. Yeah. Which is unfortunate, because I like Waldens. They have three locations I believe, and this one is convenient to home, so I was hoping to make it a regular stop as this was my third visit, but it seems they've adopted the upscale overpriced snobbery of their neighboring monied customer base. This time, there was a line of people waiting to order while the aloof cashier gossiped with a customer friend, and then she stared at me after my order until I had to ask, "how much is it?" I know I'm devastatingly handsome, but come on: focus. The cafe was not even at half capacity, so the split between the slow and distracted front and the frenzied runners, it was bizarre. They're in need of a customer service overhaul in the front of the house. But, their downtown location is where the hospitality is. I've always had pleasant experiences there regardless time of day and crowd level, and their vegan corrito burrito is *the* recommendation I make to friends visiting even though we all be carnivores. This has to be one of the CRAZIEST experiences I've ever had from a restaurant in general. I ordered their Currito and an Iced chai latte (to go). When I get home, I shared my currito with my girlfriend. Several minutes later, she comes out and shows me what she found in her food...AN AVOCADO PIT! This seriously could have hurt her (either cracked her tooth or caused her to choke). I call Waldens and spoke with the owner. This woman is extremely entitled, and lacks empathy to the highest degree. When presented this issue, she just shluffed it off and didn't want to even attempt at a solution. If I was the owner, I would comp the food, apologize profusely, and potentially even give some type of credit to try and win them over, ya know go above and beyond. I call back 6 days later (today) inquiring about my supposed refund. I'm now talking to her husband (Tony) and he mentions, "ya well depending on your credit card the refund could take 2-7 days". I pushback and provide my name and last 4 of credit card number...NOTHING WAS REFUNDED! When I look at a new receipt, they itemized the currito and didn't refund the entirety of order. Tony says, "it was just an avocado pit, nothing gross". It's unbelievable how I used to LOVE this place, how things can change quickly. Don't go here, there are far better places; Perenn, Coffee Bar, Pangolin, Old World Coffee. I could go on and on how Waldens is trash now, but that would only taint my review from being taken seriously. read more

I've had Walden's a few times now and I don't know why it's taken me so long to post a review. Hubby and I recently came here for brunch on a Sunday morning around 10:30. We were able to get a seat in the patio since the inside was super packed. It was beautiful out so we didn't mind. I ordered the avocado toast and my hubby got the tortanita. We both got an iced chai latte to drink. Everything was so tasty (as always)! Hubby said that the other half of the tortanita got hard before he was able to eat it. But that the flavor was still delicious. We've gotten their breakfast burritos before with chorizo and carnitas, and also their biscuits and gravy. Everything is so good! read more

Been wanting to stop here for a long time, finally did a couple of weeks ago. It's a little strange going here if you want a croissant and then a cup of coffee- when you walk in there's the croissant case, and you will need an employee to get it for you. NOTHING is labeled in this case, or even priced. There's a menu up on the wall when you get to the cashier, but by then you'd better hope you remember exactly what you wanted and which one. We ordered a Steamer which was not noticed on any menu, but the cashier said it would not be a problem, and a small coffee to go with the croissant, and a breakfast sandwich, then waited outside for our order. We "thought" we heard our name called a couple of times , so I kept darting inside to see if was our order, because Whoever was calling out names never bothered to call out in our direction outside. The coffee and breakfast sandwich were REALLY good, but the "Steamer" was lukewarm and the croissant was not heated and unimpressive. Wouldn't it have been great if they had asked if we wanted it heated when it was ordered? And how long did that lukewarm steamer sit unserved ? I'm sure this is a decent establishment on good days,, but on this, our first and probably last visit, we sensed a definite blasé atmosphere and overall blasé attitude. read more

As I live right up the street, I will often bring friends from out of town over to have a coffee or breakfast and I'll even frequent when riding home from a long bike ride through town. Came here about 9:30am on a Saturday. It was busy with people coming and going. There are about 20 to 25 tables inside. There is an outdoor area with seating that seems to be shared with Eclipse Pizza Co. About 18 tables outside. The place has a kind of organic, earthy feel to it. We reviewed the menu and had a seat outside since it was still cool. The patio area is nice and open and is pet friendly. We saw at least 4 larger dogs outside with their owners. There were various muffins, scones and cookies at the counter. The young man who took our order seemed like he got up on the wrong side of the bed today but was efficient. There was a young boy, probably about 4 at the table next to us walking around swatting flies with the order number holder. Not a bad idea considering all the flies on the patio. The biggest disappointment here is the coffee, but the food is awesome and the vibe is welcoming and comfortable. I was saddened to learn they don't use a local (Reno) roasting company. I swear their coffee used to be better. We ordered an americano and a double espresso. Both were bitter dominant which happens with either improperly calibrated equipment or stale coffee. Both are easy to fix but inattention to these details is worrisome. The food however is really quite good for that little kitchen they have. It's good enough that I'd comeback and probably stick to drip. read more

If you're trying to find a good brunch spot then look no further. Really wish I had checked this place out sooner because it's decent and in my area. Came here not expecting much but left satisfied. When you walk in you can grab a menu to see what you want before going to the counter to order. If you're dining in you can choose to sit wherever you'd like. Everything is self service. They also do to go orders. All the workers were very nice as well. Their menu has a lot of options ranging from breakfast and lunch so it isn't difficult so find something of choice. They also have a vast selection on coffee (duh it's a coffeehouse). I got the Walden's burger (13.99) which was an angus beef patty with mushrooms, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and their special sauce on a toasted brioche bun with seasoned potatoes on the side. Let me tell you it was scrumptious. The patty was juicy and cooked just right. All the ingredients went really well together. The special sauce had a spicy kick to it which I enjoyed very much. It was one of the best burgers I've had and that's saying a lot. The potatoes were seasoned really well and very tasty but I wish they served fries instead. The inside was kind of shabby. When my friend and I were trying to find a place to sit, most of the tables and chairs were dirty and you could tell it hadn't been cleaned for a while. There was also a very unpleasant sound the entire time we dined that seemed to be coming from the vents. One thing I appreciate about Walden's is they close at 3:30pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends so they're open a little longer than other brunch places. read more

I ordered an Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte, an Iced Black Coffee, a MacWaldens breakfast sandwich, and their breakfast burrito with sausage. Both coffees that I ordered were very mediocre. The black coffee tasted very bland and just wasn't that great. The Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte was a bit too milky and sweet, plus it didn't taste like it had much coffee in it. The food here was absolutely amazing. The breakfast burrito was perfect and came with a wonderful side of salsa. The burrito was placed in a panini press and that added a nice crunch to the tortilla. 10/10. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was also delicious. I can't believe I've slept on coming here for so long. It's probably the worst mistake I've made in my life up until this point. But in all seriousness, the breakfast here is INSANE. We came in on a Saturday morning and the place was packed, but luckily they have ample seating both indoors and outdoors. We chose a table outside and were brought our coffees within minutes and our food arrived shortly after. I haven't jumped on the avocado toast train yet, as most of them are overrated and overpriced. But this one was perfect in every way. Every single ingredient was well thought out and curated to fit all of your tastebud sensations. But be warned, this is MESSY and it would probably benefit from a little darker toast on the bread. We also enjoyed a carnitas breakfast burrito. They griddle the burrito closed and the cheese glues all the delicious toppings together for the perfect bite of soft potato, creamy cheese, and crispy, meaty carnitas. The salsa adds a nice spicy kick to cut all the fatty decadence. This meal was amazing, and left me completely satisfied and wanting to eat their avocado toast every day for the rest of my life. The food is great, service is chaotic and unorganized, but because the food was good I would have still come back for the food despite all that chaos they have going on in there. Everyone working was polite and doing their best besides one girl working behind the counter that decided to mutter some really distasteful and rude comment to me as I turned my back and was walking out will keep me from ever returning. I just wanted the drinks I ordered and asked for 3 times. We were done eating and wanted to leave. Her attitude was not necessary. There's a rule in life. People always talk about the bad experiences. A good experience they will share with maybe one or two people and the bad ones they'll tell at least 10 or more people. This is true. I am still talking about the next day because it was so insane. I didn't just pay $30+ tip to have a teenager try to start a fight with me. I worked in the service industry for over a decade and I would never in a million years speak to a customer that way. We won't be back to any locations. I have been eating here for years used to come every day. Picked up breakfast this morning vegan burrito && pancakes. They did not provide syrup for the pancakes and they changed the recipe for the burrito potatoes are now tots taking the burrito from a solid 10 to a possible 2 paid 40$ for that and I could have just went to chick fil a at this point. Not to mention the last time I ate here there was a long hair in my food. I will never waste my money here again sadly went from a fav spot and I will not be going back. read more

I love those bagel and pesto spread and the specialty coffees are yum too.
