This is by far my favorite restaurant find of 2021. The food was incredible. The haddock was everything. The corn with lobster butter on top of the haddock complemented it well and the portion was HUGE. Definitely shareable especially if you order an appetizer or dessert to share as well. Walkers is my favorite. My husband and I have been here three times and the food and ambience (fireplaces, Edison bulb lighting, open kitchen with wood stoves) feel comforting and refined. The servers are knowledgeable, check in, and clear the table between courses. The food is beyond. I have had their steak kabobs with roasted sweet potato - the steak had a buttery char and the sweet potato was smooth and rich. The handmade campanelle with burrata is also delicious. We had a very disappointing experience here this past Thursday. In the past it has always been the highlight of our week's stay each year. From our initial meeting with the hostess we felt she was not friendly or helpful in finding us a table for 2. We were fine to sit at the Bar or in the lounge without a reservation. We arrived at 6pm. Plenty of open tables for 4 or more but we're all reserved. The one table that was an option was in a back room sitting practically on top of another table. We did wait to get seats at the bar. The meals were ordered were not eaten and one was sent back to the kitchen. Bar was busy. Bartenders tried to make it better but food was just not prepared according to menu description. Needless to say it was an expensive night out with not feeling good about our experience. Maybe it's one of those things that you can never go back again expecting to have the same great experience. Would not go back again. Time to find another favorite restaurant! read more

We had reservations for 5:30 and got seated in the dining room right away. We waited for about 15 mins before our server even came over. After ordering drinks and two appetizers, she informed us we needed to also order our dinner at the same time so the chef could time everything. After looking back at the menu and ordering dinner, we waited another 30 minutes before I finally got up and asked someone where our drinks were. I feel like 45mins to wait for drinks is a lot and they didn't take anything off our bill or even apologize. We love it there but service last night wasn't great. read more

A little backstory here: I came to York to visit a friend for a weekend in March. We LOVE to eat so we pretty much just went around to a bunch of local restaurants and ate and drank all weekend. There is no shortage of good food in York, but you certainly won't find any innovative or even contemporary offerings. You will find plenty of Allagash White on draught and chowder on almost every menu. Which is fine but kinda boring. BUT you can find some really eclectic food and an absolutely bangin cocktail menu at Walker's. For those of you who are used to swanky, metropolitan restaurants with innovative menus, this is the place for you. My friend and I came on a Saturday night. The restaurant was pretty busy but we prefer the intimacy of sitting at the bar so we bee-lined it to the two last remaining seats. We had been eating all day and our plan was to just have dessert but one look at the menu and I wanted to try at least something. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic feel. As soon as we stepped out of the car you could smell campfire which I assume came from a smoker. The restaurant was dimly lit with a very "Maine" vibe. Pretty much everything on the cocktail menu piqued my interest. I was particularly interested in The Phoenix, which had a japanese spirit called shochu (not to be confused with soju). Ben explained that the combination of spirits in this cocktail gave a strawberry-like flavor but to me it was somewhat medicinal. The second cocktail I had, The Wild Goat was an absolute winner. It was made with cachaca, goats milk, great tea and kafir lime. The texture of the cocktail reminded me a little of Thai iced tea only the flavor less sweet and more complex. We decided to order a couple small plates to share, since we had already been stuffing our faces for about 6 straight hours. We ordered the Whole Roasted Cauliflower and the wood fired beets. Both of these dishes had a very smoky flavor, I assume correlated with the campfire smell wafting around outside. Both dishes were unique and just so effing good. The beets came with this cultured cream that was just the perfect complement to the toasty beets. The cauliflower was also so good and so different. I'm not usually a "I like to eat whole heads of cauliflower" kind of person but I'd eat 6 heads of that cauliflower and be real happy about it. We had come for dessert so we decided to keep the tasty train rollin. My friend had been talking about the lava cake for two days so she ordered that. I asked Ben what he liked and he recommended a Tres Leches cake with homemade kit-kat ice cream. YUP. HOMEMADE. KIT-KAT. ICE-CREAM. That's a thing. The cake was super dense and dripping in condensed milk. The ice cream was the star of the dish. My friend's lava cake was like raw brownie batter and chocolate icing mixed together. I mean this in the best way possible. This was by far the best meal I ate while I was in York and when I come back I pretty much only want to eat here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. read more

The service was exceptional and attended to everyone to ensure a great experience. Even my end of the meal tea was at a perfect temperature. I can't say enough great things! We have come here for all our special occasions but tonight's meal really was above and beyond. The courses were timed beautifully- not too fast or too slow. The food was amazing, as always. Proteins are cooked to perfection and the accompaniments are perfect pairings. The staff got word that it was our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised with a candle on our dessert and a complementary champagne toast. This is a lovely place with terrific food. We sat in the main dining room which was just beautiful. Our table was near the grill, so we saw the cooking and serving as it occurred. We could feel the heat from the grill but the ventilation is good and we were never uncomfortable. We each had different dishes, and 4 of the 5 of us loved our meals (salmon, pork chop, steak, chicken and a hamburger). Appetizers were great too. I loved the roasted cauliflower and the octopus special (tasted like General Tso's chicken, but the best I've ever had). Dessert was shared - cheesecake and donuts, a la mode. The donuts were unbelievable. Reason alone to return. Because we were so close to the grill we could see that no dish waited more than a minute before being served. Recently went to Walker's to celebrate birthdays for myself and my 12 yo son. Food was really beyond amazing, the ambiance was fantastic and the service was more than we could have hoped for. Highlights included the smoked duck served on porcini rice, the burger and of course the glazed donuts. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Okay, I like to give pros and cons so that you can make your own decisions but, I have to admit that I have not got any cons here. So, this is just a normal review. My wife and I went here as a recommendation from a local friend. We were not disappointed. It was cozy, everyone one was super friendly and warm, and the food, oh my goodness! I just wished that I lived closer! Bring your appetite especially for the dessert (we have always had the doughnut) the food is seasonal, fresh, and very inventive! Okay, there maybe a con... I am a little picky and don't eat certain foods so, the menu is a little limiting (but that's more my problem and less with the restaurant). That being said I have still found something to eat and enjoy. Our food has always been well prepared and the presentation is quite good. They get busy so make a reservation. I don't know that I could say enough wonderful things about this place. I know that there will be a time when something will not go the way I want but, I feel that they would be happy to correct the problem. I would recommend this place to anyone and I have. Best way to know if a place is worth it or not it to go, so do it, go! I hope you all enjoy as much as my wife and I have. read more

We received a gift certificate for this restaurant. We made a reservation for 7/2/21. The decorum inside was very nice. It was a cool day rain on and off. All seating was inside. The fireplaces were lite which added a very comfortable atmosphere. Justin our server was on his game. We had the cauliflower as an appetizer " unbelievable "! It had a nice smoke flavor with seasoning and with a dark sorted juice. The main course I had was the pork chop cooking very well. My wife's steak was so good loved it. I noticed a team effort by all the staff. When large parties get their dinner all server's assist with everyone getting their meal at the same. Pretty cool! Even the owners help out. So happy we found this place! We were staying in the area for just one night and stumbled upon Walkers with their great reviews and wanted to give a try - so worth it! The food and drinks were all great, but what really stands out is the service and overall amazing experience in dining here. The staff was all very nice, knowledgeable about the menu. Very attentive, but no one seemed to be rushing around, it was a way comfortable and calm environment. The spacing of time in between all our courses (app, dinner, dessert, with drinks mixed in) was absolutely PERFECT - I wish everyone would learn from Walkers. Left plenty of time to digest and make more room without leaving you feeling like your food was forgotten or the kitchen backed up. The roasted cauliflower appetizer was delicious - the sauce was a great addition to the fresh bread on the table. We got the steak which was great and not over cooked at all (always a concern) and the roasted pork which was AMAZING. So tender, just fell apart without using a knife. The grits were great, more creamy than I've had in the past (in a good way). Just had to finish the night off with the doughnuts and ice cream which was the right decision (although we were so stuffed). Overall a good restaurant, could be better with some adjustments. 1. Please pave or gravel / grade your parking lot and fill in the pot holes. When dinner for two cost 250.00 with a nice bottle of wine, this is a minimum expectation. 2. Remove a few bar stools and spread out the rest as they are jammed in 1 inch apart. Forgot the social distancing aspect, they are too tight pre COVID. Not just for us big girls, but also to encourage eating at the bar. 3. Serve what the menu states. No cipolini onions on my pork chop or yogurt on the salmon as advertised. 4. The AC froze out those with light tops, requiring a coat or sweater, but both fireplaces were blazing? Pick a lane folks. The bread was delicious as was the foie gras, but the beef empanadas were soggy and bland. I love the decor and other than my server laughing at the ice cubes spilling out of the pitcher as he poured (on the table and then into my lap) he was friendly and efficient. read more

Recently celebrated our 53rd anniversary here. What a treat. The restaurant itself is stunning. Every where you look emanates a real reverence for detail. The wine list is a treat to look at. The Italian Barolo we chose was excellent. Service was so professional with every step executed perfectly. As for the food, it was wonderful. My pork chop was the best I've ever had and my wife's duck was delish. Not an inexpensive evening but one that was well worth it. Would highly recommend Walker's. Beautiful interior design, roaring warm fires, friendly staff... I had the French onion soup and the halibut with broccoli and smashed potatoes. The soup was good but lacked full flavor. The halibut was cooked perfectly and the potatoes had loads of good flavor and texture, what fell short was the thick white sauce on top.... Too heavy and almost sweet for a fish dish even in winter. The flavors competed with each other and it didn't all flow, hazelnuts were a nice touch I suppose (?) but again, not sure if all those flavors belong on a fish entree together. I would go back because it's a beautiful and cozy place with great service and above average food in general. read more

Walkers is one of our go-to date night spots in York. I love sitting in the bar area, which is slightly more casual, especially in the winter when the fire place going. Everything I've had there has been fantastic, and the burger is one of my all-time favorites. My wife usually gets the salmon, and has always been very happy with it. The Tock system used to hold a reservation actually puts thru a charge, plus tax, on your credit card, before your booked reservation. I thought giving my card # was to hold a reservation & charge my card if I failed to show up or cancel. To charge me now is totally UNACCEPTABLE. Neither Open Table or RESY do this! We've driven by this location for years and it always looks so inviting. On a recent offseason stay in York, unfortunately it was closed but luckily we returned ann dined on a Wednesday night in January. We were looking to dine early as we had an early start the following day and I booked via open table. I knew nothing about the seating options but now that I I've been, I'd certainly make a request for the room with a fireplace. The experience, service and food were superb. What I did find odd was we arrived and were the first guests. We were escorted to the farthest table from the welcome area in the farthest room. It was a 530 reservation. We were the only patrons for our entire meal seated here. The room was lovely and the table for 2 was spacious but I mentioned to my hisbsad that I'd prefer the room with tHe beautiful fireplace. We decided to stay put but I thought it was odd we remained the only diners here while the other two rooms were busy as well as the bar area. I'll know for next time. Walkers is just lovely, very inviting and warm decor with a welcoming viBe. The fireplaces are stunning. The middle room has a sofa area directly in front of the fireplace which personally I think would be better for dining tables but im sure the vision works in the grand pLan. In any case, loved the understated elegant vibe! I watched a short clip on the Walkers Instagram page from the owners and they coommented how their culinary vision doesn't always appeal to some diners and how difficult it was to watch patrons decide to leave after looking over the menu. That would be my husband is many situations but he's getting better. I think k the current menu offers a few options for the less adventurous and they work. Our meals were superb! As I mentioned to a friend, I "came out of my box" staying with my tequila last based cocktail to my pork chop entree! My cinnamon infused tequila cocktail was delicious. Other cocktails and martinis were interesting but I didn't see anything vodka based and that's my preference. The salad options were nontraditional so my husband settled on the radicchio option after I said, it's going to be great as this place gets great reviews, let's suck it up. The bread crumb addition was interesting providing a slight crunch. Dressing was well seasoned and delicious. I chose the Cacio e Pepe Pasta app, though simple it was seasoned to perfection. It was Fresh pasta and I love black pepper, so a perfect balance of 3 simple ingredients prepared to perfection. A bit of a lull before entrees Bobs hangar steak was done med as ordered served atop the most delicious mashed potatoes I've EVER had in my life. Steak was highly seasoned with a rub and wood fire grilled a flavor you could taste ( apparently open kitchen in bar area open fire for grilling) Now the pork chop Didn't love the presentation AS neither added to the dish and there was too much of large blanched carrot curls and puffed pork rinds ( chicharron) I would have put two of each and left But the main dish was superb. Pork chop was grilled and the rubb was to die for... I mean excellent. It was sliced it's 4 large thick slices and served with bone, atop creamed winter veg ( I am not a creamed veg fan period) with excellent roasted carrots and baby whole onions . The pork was cooked to perfection , tender and juicy and perfect balance of flavor from the rub. I don't know how he could grill it and achieve that product I couldn't finish and while bob and I switch plates, he even had trouble as it was a massive serving Almost 2 in thick chop. He liked the blanched carrots but agreed pork rind not necessary . He loved the creamed whatever it was And agreed it wasn't spinach. Went here for dinner with friends and sat in the bar area. We got a table right away because it wasn't busy We got a round of drinks and the waitress forgot mine. It took about 10 minutes to get it. The fireplace is beautiful but the people putting the wood in have no idea whAt they are doing. The place filled up with smoke. Everyone opened windows and my clothes hair and coat need to be fumigated. It was more than annoying. A waiter came by with water and proceeded to pour tap water into my club soda glass. I got the short rib and mashed which was good not great. Two in my party got duck which was tasty but one waS a bit dry but still tasty This place is more about trying to be high end than consistently good. My previous trips here were better than this one.
