Walt's is one of those gems you wish other auto repair shops could be. I've been to Walt's three times now and I have to say I'd go back there again. I at one point was a very satisfied customer. At the previous owners sold the business, professional service went down hill. I have an older car went I take pride in! With the new ownership, mechanics destroyed my steering column cover(which took forever to replace). They went as far as to steal my cigarette lighter and the cover of the back cover to the over head handle on the backseat. As if I would recognize the parts they some out of my superbly clean car! Paul and daughter are fabulous from the previous owners(office managers). My car started making a very strange noise while on the freeway. I left a message for Walt's late on a Saturday and Angel returned my call on Monday. Was able to drop my car off explained what had happened and they were able to find and fix the problem. The price was fair and the communication was excellent. The only thing I could say was when they went in the glovebox to get the wheel lock (which I never knew I had) they left several items on the floor and seat. Not a large price to pay. My truck broke down and AAA recommend Walt's auto service to get it repaired because it was close by. It was a really easy process coming in. Tow my truck in, walked into entrance, gave them my information etc. I was in and out in 5 mins. After doing a inspection of my truck Paul called me and informed me that the engine was damaged and I would need a new one. I ask him if he knew anyone who would buy my truck and he said he would call me back. A few mins later he called back and said Sergio would buy it. Sergio gave me a fair deal for my broken truck. Plus it saved me from having to get it towed to a junk yard. After talking to Sergio about my situation he told me he just got a Ford ranger and he would sell it to me so I could get back on the road. I was surprised because it was exactly what I was looking to get. I ended up buying the Ford ranger from Sergio and he was very honest about the power steering not sounding right but wanted to see if it got better after adding some fluid. Took my Acura in for a timing belt and water pump replacement. called on the 3rd day to see when my car was going to be ready, never return my call. called on the 4th day and it was finally ready. drove home and heard a rubbing noise under the hood. found the steering reservoir rubbing on the serpentine belt and not connected to the bracket. the coolant reservoir was also empty with no coolant inside. I also found a 8 inch ratchet sitting on top of my radiator fan housing! My car idles rough now and has no power. been going to Walt's auto for years. Found Walt's Auto Service when I was looking for a different auto repair shop for my 1990 Honda CRX SI, a long time ago. The independent Honda repair shop where I had been a customer for many years changed owners and it was time to move on. I've been a customer at Walt's Auto Service for........what must be going into a second decade by now. I first found them on a "Top 10" list in Auto Club's Westways Magazine of auto repair shops in Southern California. Then I began to notice that they made the "Daily Breeze's South Bay's Best" awards list year after year. Hondas and Toyotas (and their associated makes) are what Walt's primarily repairs, but they are certainly perfectly able to diagnose and repair other makes as well. I took my 1990 Honda CRX SI to Walt's for many years until I gave it up in 2010, and now my 2010 Honda Accord is there for every oil change, service.....whatever it needs. At my very first Walt's visit, I liked how I could see AND watch (if I chose) my car being attended to, simply by standing in the customer parking area. All nine bays are visible. At Walt's, the standard is integrity, thorough inspections, industry-standard pricing (or better), Genuine Honda/Toyota parts and same day service is the "norm" (with rare exceptions). This small, very personal staff has never disappointed. Kay, the owner and manager, is at the shop everyday and interacts with every customer. Paul, the ASE Certified Service Consultant and ASE Master Technician, will always explain and show everything on the car that is an issue, without even having to ask him. (He knows I will look up parts online on my own otherwise). I ask for these "teaching moments" and Paul always "makes time" to be sure that every customer is satisfied with the work when they drive away. He shows me the old, busted parts that came off my car, even if he has to scrape up the remains off the floor (and he has). Paul will always tell a customer "the whole situation". He never insists that any particular repair must be done immediately; unless, of course, there is a clear and/or catastrophic failure with a part, system, etc. If a repair or part replacement doesn't HAVE to be done today, Paul might say, "I would take care of (name a repair) within the next 'x' number of miles"..... or "Honda recommends that (name a part) be replaced every 'x' number of miles", but it is always YOUR choice, without any pressure. You will NOT find "upselling" at Walt's Auto Service. A car owner's OWN prior neglect of their automobile is certainly not to be blamed on ANY repair shop. Any "unexpected" repairs brought to your attention at Walt's are simply a testament to the thoroughness of their highly-experienced technicians' inspections. As far as who "works the magic" in the service bays, Walt's employs two technicians, Francisco and Randy. Francisco is a fully certified ASE Service Technician/Specialist and has been servicing cars at Walt's for at least two decades, I believe, and Randy has been there for many, many years as well. Talk about technicians that know EVERY one of their customer's cars..... inside and out. If my car was ever stuck out in the desert or anywhere else with a major problem, I would have it towed to Walt's Auto Service in Torrance without a second thought. read more

So, my Toyota Tacoma ran out of warranty. I got tired of paying the dealer for high-priced maintenance and inaccurate diagnostics. I was referred to Walt's auto service by Petes Autohouse as they had worked on a German car I used to own. And to my delight that is true. Pete had told me that Walter is just like him except he works on Japanese cars. And to my delight this is true. Here are just a few reasons why I will continue to go to Walt's. 1. I like the personalized service. They know my name. I always speak to the same person, who has a relationship with me and history of knowing my Truck. 2. As you know mechanics don't have a good reputation for honesty. Which is something I value highly. Took my car here a few days ago and they were great. My sister recommended Walt's and she said to go here, not the dealership. She was right! They're honest and won't jack up the prices. I went to the dealership to get some work done and they told me a price that was WAY more than I thought it should be. Walt gave me an estimate of much, much less than the dealership. I didn't have to pay until he was done with the car. When they called to pick up the car, the final price ended up being lower than he originally said. If there is one drawback is that it's a litter hard to find the place. Assuming you don't drive right by the place, you still have to make sure your pulling into the right auto shop as there is more than one I think. They were extremely friendly and down to earth. I'm really glad I went to Walt's Auto because of these reviews! I was so hopeless when my long-time trusted mechanics recommended me to take my car to the dealer when my check engine light was on, and I only had a week to get smog check & register. I really wanted to avoid the dealer, because I had no idea how much they would charge me for any engine-related jobs. And I was also worried if they could take care of my car on time. Then, I found Walt's Auto on Yelp! They seem to have great reviews, and they are specialized in Honda! ( I drive Honda ) so I decided to take my car here. I am traumatized by the auto mechanics in general since I've got ripped off before, so I was still nervous taking my car to the new place. Well, I didn't have to worry about anything here. Paul is absolutely honest, friendly and happy person that I felt very comfortable doing the business with. He said working on the engine was no problem & in fact, the job was done within a day with much much less price than I would have paid at the dealer. (The most dealer will recommend you to replace the whole engine whenever there's a sign of any problem, then that would cost lots of $$$!!) They charge 3 times more than a dealership!!!! Just to to a simple ass job I can do at home ! I was quoted less than 2\3 of the price from dealership beware of this place. And they take 2 times as long to complete the work. When you look up on line how long it takes for your repair it says like 4hours of labor but you're car has been there a week !!! Does not make any sense they have part company's that will drive to you for any part they take about 30 min they are crooks beware My suggestion is go on google type in the model of your particular car \truck and ask Google how much the repairs should be you will be surprised the answers. You can even use the voice feature and just speak into the phone and say how much does it cost to fix brakes radiator head gasket etc. Google gives you the cost of repair and the high end and low end cost of the part and labor. I feel so bad for elderly people I seen there. Its sick how much they tried to overcharge !!!! If you were going to pay more than a dealership does than mean they do it better ?no a good mechanic can do it or a dealership. But no these people they will over charge you or they will try. That is my experience Here if you choose not to act you will have to walk around the earth without a soul. That's what happends when people try to overcharge by thousands really sick I felt scammed so glad I got it out of there I just played like I was going to go along with it before we go off the phone I was there to pick up my car before I left there was damage done to the exterior of the car. Brought my 1999 Honda Accord Ex in because the engine would shut off while idling at a stop. Techs ran a few tests and determined it was a problem with the ignition system, which they replaced. Service was fantastic! I was worried about a major problem with the electrical system or the engine, but the guys at Walt's were able to track the problem down and fix it for *less* than what they quoted me for. They did a good job of explaining to me their procedures and costs *before* they started working and managed to have the car fixed and ready in less than 24 hours. On top of it all, they researched all outstanding recalls for my car and gave me recommendations on which should be taken care of ASAP, or which can be taken care of when I had the chance. read more

Have been coming here for a bit. The staff is REALLY nice but I always have to wait at least two hours - even if just an oil change. If you have the time to spare or have an issue, worth it! They are nice, friendly, helpful. But if you just want an oil change or quick look, maybe not the spot for you.
