For sushi, we ordered the Lone Star Roll and a few pieces of nigiri. We did enjoy the roll; however, the nigiri fell a bit short. I'm not too fond of large slices of fish and prefer it thinly sliced on top of the rice. Further, the steak teriyaki we ordered was very very tough and hard to chew. Very disappointing dish. Stumbled in this place by accident and it was some of the greatest stir fry and sushi we have ever had! Small restaurant with great ambience and customer service. I came in at 11:45 on a Monday and there were only four other people dining. Smooth jazz was playing and the staff was super friendly. There was only one TV which was kept at very low volume, which makes it the perfect ambiance after a busy work morning. Also, there was absolutely NO fish smell, which is how you know you're going to get fresh food! I ordered the three roll lunch special (which is only $16!). I got the shrimp tempura, Cajun, and avocado rolls. It came with a free cup of miso soup. Everything was amazing. Also, the rolls were HUGE! One slice was the diameter of my fist, and everything I got comes 8 slices to a roll. Great value. Best sushi lunch specials value in DFW! Sushi is fresh and consistently of good quality. Restaurant can be a bit noisy with lots of online orders coming in causing beeping at the host stand. Fabulous! I'll admit it - I fall under the "I don't eat raw fish" category, but I could eat my weight in unagi. Thankfully, this place cooks up some of the best I've had. But first things first. Dined with a party of 5 (self included) at 7pm on a Friday night. The place was very quiet, only a few other people dining. Our server was incredibly attentive and kind, I wish I had caught his name. Tempura shrimp appetizer was perfectly hot and crispy. Shrimp shumai were packed with flavor. The rest of my party enjoyed hot sake while I stuck with a Pepsi (no Coke on this menu!). As I said, I could eat my weight in unagi. So, I ordered unagi nigiri and a dragon roll (my go-to roll at any sushi spot, because...unagi). Seriously, so good. Could not have been cooked better, so full of flavor, hardly needed any extra sauce. The dragon roll was delightful, and a very sizable portion (I think 8 or even 10 jam-packed pieces). The rest of my party all thoroughly enjoyed their meals. It was my fiancé's family, and they've been coming here for years. So glad I finally got a taste of Wasabi Sushi for myself. Have lived in the area since 2018, and had tried to eat here, however, it was busy when we had tried to go. Went a few weeks ago, and can tell you, I was highly disappointed. How this place has high reviews, is beyond comprehension. First off, the Sushi. The Nigiri was nice and fresh, while the rice had ZERO vinegar, and tasted like minute rice. It was not sticky, like traditional Sushi rice. Ordered some Spicy Tuna rolls, and received Tuna rolls topped with siracha sauce. I'm sorry, I have eaten at tons of Sushi Bars, and have never (Until now) had a Spicy Tuna roll prepared like this. It was quite inedible. Same thing happened with the Spicy Scallop handroll. Would highly recommend that your "Chef" learn how to make real Sushi, instead of reading "Sushi for Dummies". Am definitely never going to this place again. They're competition on Overton Ridge, has far better fare, service, and ambiance anyways. read more

Follow up from 3 yrs ago. It is comforting to see things of quality that remain unchanged. Wasabi remains as always the best example of what you should expect from a neighborhood sushi bar. Prices are still amazing for what you get. 14 bucks for 6 assorted nigiri, a standard roll and miso soup. $2.50 for green tea. If anything the slices on the nigiri have improved in quality and thickness. The spicy tuna is still not spicy, but it had a rich nutty taste due to sesame oil being used in the tuna mix and the use of sesame seed instead of toragashi on the exterior Do yourself a favor and try not adding wasabi and soy sauce. Chef nailed this. It needs no "improvement ". He only negatives are pretty much minor. The miso soup is still instant with too much water. Extremely bland. The tea I won't order again. Either tea bag or instant. In any case it was lacking in the slightly nutty flavor of better green tea. To be fair to the restaurant, I am very picky on both because I spent more than a decade eating hand made miso soup and drinking strong green tea. All in all it was really good. One mistake that I didn't like about my server was that he would take the dishes without asking the customer if they're finish with it. For starters, the Ika (Squid) Tempura wasn't bad, it wasn't crunchy but it didn't taste like it was fresh at the time. The Shumai was good, shrimp was fresh, and their chili soy sauce is really good with it. After that, we ordered Don (Pork) Katsu, the breading wasn't crunchy and the meat didn't taste like it was fresh. The Japanese Shoyun Ramen Noodle wasn't bad, the soup was good, noodles was great, and the meat taste good. The Lunch Box Bento Steak, wasn't great in some meals such as the steak being almost to a medium, the veggie tempura was okay but it was kind of hard to eat, the house salad was okay maybe they should cut that cherry tomatoes in half, the 4pc California roll was good along with wasabi and ginger, and the gyoza was good along with their chili soy sauce. read more

If you like above average sushi but don't mind over aggressive waiters and having everything served at once when asked to bring salad and soup first, you might tolerate this place. Had not even seated when waitress wanted to know drink order. Once the order was placed she never asked about refilling hot tea with some additional boiling water. Salad, soup and main entre all served at same time. Many tables remained laden with dirty dishes for an excessive amount of time. Again waitress never smiled and acted as though she was doing us a favor by waiting on us. Had enjoyed many meals here but the last few times I have been dissappointed and will probably not return. Tonight was our first visit to Wasabi Sushi. We were fortunate to find a restaurant open on Christmas Eve. They offered a complimentary salad or soup to start the meal. All of the food was well prepared and the presentations were very nice. We started with a Tokyo (Ahi) Tower. Then we split an Ichiban Roll and a Kiss the Fire Roll. All of the dishes were delicious. This is the first place where I ate sushi in 2014. It was very good. Eight years later I'm back to try it again. It was not as good this time around as it was then, with several exceptions. They still give you free miso soup and a small salad, both good. Shrimp tempura app is still very good. Fresh shrimp in a crispy tempura batter. Next up was the shumai app that I didn't like at all. No shrimp flavor and I didn't like the texture so I rejected it. The sushi has gone downhill as well. I had my usual, California and spider rolls, no avocado. The crabmeat was mushy and had no crab flavor so I rejected it as well. Spider roll was good but nothing special. I got the volcano roll and it came on a flaming plate and it looked cool even got the attention of the other patrons but the taste was just ok at best. This place gave us a great experience. It was super quiet as we went in on a week night and the service was fast. We had miso soup to start which was delicious, and egg rolls and gyozas also which tasted great. Hubby had hot saki to drink and I had a glass of rose wine. For our main we split the lone star roll which was awesome! It was avocado, crab and shrimp tempura topped with a NY strip steak, which we've never heard of when it comes to sushi, so we had to try and it did not disappoint. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because they didn't have the sweeter wine I asked for so our server subbed it for a different one which was a dry wine and not really my taste I would have preferred to pick something else. Also my hubby asked for a different sauce to the mustard flavour they gave us and he said something a bit sweeter like a duck sauce or the equivalent and the server looked at us like we were talking a different language. Honestly the food was so god and with such a big menu it makes me excited to go back. Starting with the Lobster Rolls, yummy and perfectly fried and accompanied by amazingly tempura fried asparagus that has made me want the tempura veggies. Dumplings were yummy but could have been a little more crispy. Panic Roll was a mouth full of spicy deliciousness. My nose was running but I'm so happy to have been eating the Whats up roll as well.
