I've seen this place a million times driving down Sepulveda and I figured since your at the homebase of the company that the bagels would be great. So on a whim, I stopped and purchased a few bagels. First of all, bring Cash. They don't accept credit cards and they have an ATM machine but you'll get charged $2.50 to use it. Second, I'm not sure if I'm just used to the super plump bagels, but these seem to be on the smaller side. They are definitely not even as big as the 'Sara Lee' brand in the grocery store. However, they are good. I especially enjoyed the jalapeno bagel that had bits of jalapeno baked into the bread. It gave a nice kick. After watching Food Network, I had a craving for a bagel with cream cheese and lox. Thankfully, Western Bagel, the best bagel in L.A., was just down the street. I picked up a lox sandwich the following morning which satiated my craving. I've been to other Western Bagel locations (Encino and West L.A.) but I liked this one the best. Although there is no sitting area, I was able to get in and out. There's a small parking lot on site as well as street parking (hard to come by at the other locations). Finally found a great bagel in LA. I've been trying to find something to approximate H&H Bagels which are from NY and what I consider to be the standard by which all bagels are judged. We heard about Western and drove up Sepulveda to this very industrial work area location. We walked in and there were bins and bins of freshly baked bagels. The smell reminded me of going to good bakeries to get bagels when I was a kid. The bagels are exactly what I'd been looking for. The thing most bakeries don't seem to be able to get down is the dense chewiness. Western nails it. My favorite is the Everything Bagel and theirs has the requisite garlic, salt, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and onion. And they somehow get the toppings to stick really well - even after slicing and toasting. Before Western, we'd usually go to Noah's. After one Western bagel though, we immediately knew we had to get a dozen. I've never been compelled to take Noah's home for later. I never realized that until I was ordering a dozen from Western. Wherever you are in LA - worth the schlep. Oh, one more thing - bring cash. No credit cards accepted. And they're open 24 hours! read more

Western Bagel is an amazing breakfast spot! Not only are they a Bagel place but also a deli, so their turkey is phenomenal. The service is fantastic, and the place has a great interior plus tables outside if you prefer to eat outside. Apart from the bagels and bagel sandwiches, they have little deserts for your sweet teeth. Fresh bagels, 24/7. OH YEAH. Yummy goodness near the heart of Van Nuys. The "Everything" bagel is the best, but buy the baker's dozen and you get to choose 13 bagels. This western bagel is very special to me! In my 25 years of life I can honestly say it has never let me down! I remember coming here as a kid and ordering pizza bagels or jalapeño and cheese bagels before school. I would walk into my school feeling like the president and when my teacher said sit down I replied, "how about you sit down!" Ended up benched for recess, but them bagels had me feeling myself. I have loved these Bagels for over 50 Years now. Their store is right in front of the factory where they make the Bagels. Did I say Fresh Bagels. Most Bagels are oven fresh and still warm as long as you get the most favorite Bagels. I love the Onion Bagels, my wife loves the Wheat Bagel and my son is a Water Bagel type of guy. We usually go in early Sunday morning (8AM) and get the Dozen (13) Bagels. The Cream Cheese comes in several flavors or with pieces of Lox or just plain. They do make Bagel Sandwiches. Yes they charge for the extras stuff like cutting the bagel, Buttering the Bagel or Cream Cheesing the Bagels. Yes the area is Industrial, but where would you expect a large Bagel Factory to be!!! Parking for 11 cars on the lot, but since they do not have sit down tables the cars rotate quickly. I do prefer coming here instead of their locations around town, since the Bagels are Fresher. In addition, when I received the order of online bagels I realized they were not pre-cut. For the amount of money that was spent, I would have liked them to at least be pre-cut! Trying to figure out if people give 5 stars because it's open 24 hours or because they used to go to Western Bagels when they were kids? Very few reviews mention quality of bagels or service. Let me remedy this. This was my first time at this location. Walking through the door, or trying as one customer decided to be the worst doorman on the planet and was holding on to the handle for deal life. I made my way to a scattered line but located the end. When my turn came up and the guy behind the counter called next, he immediately began servicing the guy behind me. When I finally got my bagels, I had sense enough to check the bag and discovered one short. I also couldn't find specific cream cheese and kindly asked for assistance only to receive friendly finger pointing to the fridge across the room where all of them were mixed. Thanks lady, this is why I asked for help in the first place. I was glad to get the hell out of that place and was not at impressed with freshness of these bagels, thanks to my toaster I made it better. Oh yeah, they only take cash too. Warning this Western Bagel takes CASH ONLY. The bagels are OK as bagels go, but they're basic bagels, in plain through multigrain through flavored varieties. Service when it gets busy can be rather slow. The parking is a NIGHTMARE. Try parking on the street if you can instead of the lot. We almost had an accident when a large white van totally ran through the red light just down the block, though its not Western Bagel's fault, this area of Sepulveda Blvd., is best to be avoided. 2 stars because I have had better bagels, faster, more variety, and, where there are options to pay. I love this place. It's my go-to spot for deliciously fresh bagels. Their variety is great, prices are very reasonable and they are open 24 hours. When buying one dozen you get one extra bagel of your choice for free (13 total). And when I'm not in the mood for cream cheese spread I easily turn these into delicious pizza bagels at home. Let me start off by saying I love Western Bagel's bagels, they seriously make great bagels and this review is about this specific location. I constantly have hits and miss experiences at this location. I feel even when there are a lot of workers there it can still take some time. I was there for 20 min just for 2 bagels w/ cream cheese and there wasn't a lot of customers at the time. There have been times where they put so little cream cheese and times where it's made great. I went this weekend and both bagels that I got had such a thin layer of cream cheese, which was disappointing. Also this location charges more for bagel and lox then the one I sometimes go to in Burbank, which I find strange since it's the same chain. It definitely is a pro that they are open 24/7 but a heads up they are CASH ONLY, which is lame considering all of their other locations I have been to accept credit cards. read more
