However, we were in the area so we decided to do lunch special and I was surprised that they haven't really raise their price like other establishments. I like this place for the most part. Good people, ambience etc. But the quality of some of the food is questionable. For example, the BBQ Pork is one of the worst I've ever had anywhere in the US. It's thick, dry and stringy. It tasted like cardboard. I suggest that this place should be more self-reflective. Many old restaurants tend to get complacent. Be a little more prideful of your restaurant. Don't trap yourself into just making money. I'd give a better rating if you have more integrity. read more

I walked in at around 2:30 pm on a Friday (Today) and the staff all looked at me and when I looked at them, they all looked away. Awkward silence... nobody said, "Hello" two waitresses were setting up lunch for the staff and still never greeted me so I assumed I needed to seat myself. Still nobody said anything, I had to stand up and say, "Is anyone going to say hello to me??" As I walked up to find a menu. For a first time customer, this is the worst treatment you can get at a restaurant. After I sat back down the server came by and had a stone face on her. It was a, "What do you want?" Atmosphere and attitude. I ordered wonton soup and egg rolls, all came out in 2 minutes (Odd) I ate an egg roll and pulled my soup closer when I found a black hair in my soup. The waitress finally came over after I waived her over. I told her I could not eat the soup because of the hair. The waitress was UNAPOLOGETIC, in fact she treated me like she was annoyed that I would not eat it. She took it away and brought me my FULL PRICED egg roll bill. I paid my tab and left. I will NOT be returning. Too many other great choices in the City. read more

My favorite "comfort food" Chinese food in Burbank is Frontier Wok Too on Olive Avenue. However, they are closed today while doing repairs on their kitchen, so I thought I would try the nearby Western Wok, since that used to be the original Frontier Wok and I heard that the owners were related. Wow. Not even remotely close in quality to Frontier Wok. From the egg drop soup, which was a bowl of unnaturally yellow, gelatinous glop, to the bland noodles and eggplant cooked with canned water chestnuts (garlic eggplant and canned water chestnuts do not go together), this meal was a waste of money and time. Even the hot tea tasted of residual dishwashing soap. However, the service was pleasant and the restaurant is located in a very non-Chinese, old-timey, Western-themed building, so if you're stoned and broke in Burbank, this might just be the perfect place for you. I am neither, so I won't be back. read more

I spent the Christmas holiday season in Los Angeles with my family and happened to come across this quaint little restaurant. I was apprehensive at first but we all decided to give it a try. We came in as a family of 12 and the staff and management were very accommodating. We ordered a family style dinner consisting of stir fried mixed vegetables, lettuce wraps, salt pepper chicken wings (special request) walnut shrimp, pork mu shu, , black pepper chicken, Singapore style fried noodles, and beef chow fun. Having been to Hong Kong and growing up in Vancouver, we all agreed that the food was spot on compared to the plethora of Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles. The food was fresh and came out in a very reasonable time, seeing that we had a big order in addition to a special request. The worst Chinese food ever. Ordered lemon chicken. Rec'd a chopped up, hard, breaded thin chicken breast over a few pieces of lettuce. Also ordered teriyaki chicken. It was the same breaded chicken breast with a splash of weak teriyaki sauce. Pan fried noodles were terrible. I make better chinese food. The steamed rice wasn't even good. Tasted really plain and too much junk under the items (like all the veggies under the chicken teriyaki! I wanted a large order and this was the size of. Tried this place for the first time via grub-hub. Very underwhelmed, especially considering the handful of positive reviews. I agree with the reviews that claim the food is bland and flavorless. Grubhub was having technical difficulties, and prompted me to call the restaurant directly. While on the phone, I asked for a recommendation as far as shrimp dishes- initially I was going to order salt and pepper shrimp, but based on the advise of the person I spoke to, changed my order to garlic shrimp, as he said it was spicier and contained more vegetables than s/p shrimp. Can't speak for the veg. content, as Ive never had the salt and pepper variety, but the spice and flavor were definitely lacking!! Cant even imagine how bad salt and pepper version is :/ Another big complaint (though I have to give MAJOR points to grub hub for quickly and effectively sorting this out) was the fact that the plastic container in which they served my food in seemingly melted! There were 2 huge wholes in the lid, which caused the sauce to spill all over! This was a pickup order, and by the time I arrived home saw the sauce of the dish was all over my car seat as opposed to in the actual container. Major problem, not only for my car (decidedly more important) but for the Chinese food which I had expected to be good (based on reviews). Called grubhub (as I figured a call to the restaurant would go unnoticed/ unresolved) and they immediately contacted the restaurant on my behalf. Quickly received a call back from grubhub, and was offered a replacement dish or the option of a refund. Okay, so this use to be one of my favorite places to get Chinese food in Burbank, it was previously frontier wok. Down the street from my house, frontier wok too is a further drive, so I was set. Then this place turns into western wok and I have to say the food is awful now. I can always tell how good food is, by how good it tastes when I decide to eat the leftovers again the same day: food here tastes like garbage. Literally dog food. I felt like I was bringing an ash tray into my home, so gross. Food was fine tasting, nothing special, but not warm. Price was good. Orange chicken- was delicious and crispy and actually had chicken not like most places I've tried, sauce was very good not too light or to heavy very yummy! Mongolian beef- I loved that it was meat and did not have a lot of fat or grease, the onion were perfect, I'm picky with my onion they weren't to thick or to thin and still nice and gave it that crunch with every bite very savory!! The last delivery I got from this place left a sour taste in my mouth. (Not the food, food is great which is why it's getting two stars and not one.) I ordered via Eat24 and the same delivery driver from the restaurant showed up. I order via the app, but I don't tip on the app. I tip in cash, always. He had me sign the paperwork to accept the order and then he stood there with my food and screamed in my face "NO TIP YOU GIVE ME NO TIP" and I pulled the tip I had in CASH out of my pocket and handed it to him. He only then handed me the food. I was so caught in the moment I wish I hadn't tipped him at all. Who the hell yells in your face like that? It was rude and unprofessional, and I probably won't be ordering from them again. This is my fave go-to Chinese take out whenever I'm in the area. The food comes out piping hot. My usual includes the fried wontons filled with garlic cream cheese. The shrimp fried rice is to die for. For the main entree I would normally get the broccoli beef. I'd say this is up to par with authentic food in the 626! read more

This place was way better when it was frontier wok. I went there tonight with my boyfriend, he got the orange chicken and he thought it was good. I had the sweet and sour pork, and it was awful! You could taste the freezer burn on the vegetables. And the one waitress couldn't pay attention to us as soon as another family walked in. We absolutely love this place, the food is tasty and fresh. Ask for lemon and pepper chicken, probably best dish, chicken is rich in flavor and moist. We always come in and pick up and enjoy a beer at the bar while we wait, its much faster than ordering through Eat24. The service is great, Ceylon always takes care of us!
