Definitely the best Italian takeout in the Albany/University area, however it is not the best pizza takeout option. The staff and delivery guys are actually really nice and I am almost positive the people who deliver the food also make the food which is nice because they never mess up the order since they are familiar with the orders being delivered...something that is hard to come by with Albany delivery services. They have awesome calzones...they come in their own pizza box because they are so big and they do not skimp on cheese or other fillings. They also have awesome salads and the grilled chicken is really tasty. As mentioned, the pizza is not the best but it is definitely not awful. Aside from that the menu is pretty extensive and they have a good variety. I usually turn to Westgate as my go to when I have no preference in take-out because they are consistently yummy. read more

In town for just one night, wanted a good pizza and we were recommended to order from here. 2 medium pizza deal w 2 toppings - I give the pizza a 3/10...made my stomach turn after eating it. Just as precaution we ordered Garlic cheesy bread - wish I got my $3 back for that, and I don't need the $3. You think garlic cheesy bread would be easy and delicious BUT... It looked like 3 hot dog bun rolls cut into small sections with a dash of garlic (I think) and melted cheese slices (not really melted) on it. The only thing that I can say that I did not like was the taste! There wasn't much sauce and it tasted like bad meat... I didn't have any meat! Last timw my friend and i ordered from here I ordered antipasto salad, and calamari as an appetizer and my friend ordered a calzone. my friends food was half cold. and they put grilled chicken on my salad and it wasn't an antipasto salad, and there was no calamari. there has been lots of times where they've screwed up at least one thing in my order. Had a true connection with this place. Seeing as I don't eat red meat, esp. pork, and they don't use ANY pork products. Was a go to. Despite messing up 3 delivery orders, I gave one more chance. Boy do I regret it. I ordered a chicken, bacon and ranch calzone with fries. Extra crispy. I received the biggest calzone filled with mostly cheese and chicken chunks. The most soggy fries ever. Hot subs are great. Philly cheese steak and chicken bacon ranch are my go to hot subs. The only thing on the menu I'm not a fan of is the beef gyro. The sauce on it is great but the meat not so good. Rolls are quit doughy towards the front and end so it naturally took me a few bites in to see its pepperoni. Fine I understand restaurants make mistakes. I call and tell them the mistake they agree it was suppose to be bbq chicken. I am normally trying different places to enjoy different tastes. And recently had an experience of trying Westage Pizza. Slices can be a little oily and the sauce tasted canned, then doctored up with oregano. This is pretty dry pizza, but still a tasty one and good to kill hunger. We moved to the area in 2010 and discovered West Gate Pizza via a menu we found in the mail. We love this place! The plain pizza is a great value and although taste is very personal and subjective, their flavor totally satisfies our family's palette. I don't really pay mind to negative reviews about the taste of other pizzas because it is so subjective and everyone enjoys different things. Some like saltier, some like sweeter, some like thin and crispy others prefer chewier. How can you say a pizza is bad because the crust is too crispy? Someone else might prefer it that way? That is why I think it is unfair to rate sometimes based on personal taste alone. That being said, we do think the quality of West Gate pizza is consistently fresh, fairly sized for the price and full of great flavor (in our opinion). We have tried other local Pizza places like Peasan's, I Love NY, Sarah Bella, New Yorker (Hannaford Plaza on Wolf Road--previously Zia's), Inferno, Pap John's and Primo (which is now changed to Fratello's which we have yet to try). And we still prefer Westgate Pizza over any of those, by far! (I am not going to include or compare to restaurant pizzas like The Fountain, The Orchard, UNO's etc. I am just thinking of the local take out type joints.) So, as far as our personal taste goes, we vote Westgate Pizza #1 in our book for take-out pizza. . . 1. Our absolute favorite pizza to order from their menu is the Margarita Pizza. Please try it and then make your judgment! It is just the right balance of fresh white mozzarella and basil and their scoops of sauce on top are so tasty and refreshing. 2. Their Bruschetta Pizza is very "different" and worth a try. Although it tastes nothing like a pizza, it has wonderful flavors and fresh ingredients. It is savory, crunchy, crisp and very good. 3. We have also gotten their White Broccoli Pizza which is "just right" in our book. The broccoli is nice and firm with a little crisp and the pizza is not overly done with too much garlic or other spices, so you can really get the flavor of the mild ricotta and earthy broccoli. 4. I also often order their Grilled Chicken Garden Salad. This salad is so good that sometimes I can even resist eating the pizza because I am so content and satisfied with their salad which helps me to make a healthy choice even when my family is indulging. The chicken on the salad is always good quality breast with a fresh grilled taste and nicely seasoned. Actually. the chicken is so well seasoned that you barely need salad dressing to accompany the salad because the herbs on the chicken give it just enough flavor (it tastes like the chicken you would get in a souvlaki). Their greens are always leafy romaine with tomatoes, cukes, etc.; all very firm, crisp and fresh 5. Another jewel we discovered here are their Garlic Parmesan Boneless Wings. These taste like sin! You have to try them. The idea is basically a chicken nugget (although with very good breast meat), made with a crunchy breading and then covered in melted butter, garlic, parmesan. Not sure what their formula is but somehow their ratio or combo of these ingredients is better than others I've had at different places. A few things we have tried can pass as average like their calamari is just okay and their garlic knots also just okay. But I have yet to explore their subs, Italian dishes or Greek Gyro's etc. I can't wait to try these but I am so hooked on their Margarita Pizza and salads, that we always get the same thing. We have never requested delivery we always do "pick up" so I cannot comment on their service there. I do think sometimes they can get backed up or a little slow (max 25-30 minutes for us compared to a ridiculous Inferno Pizzeria which is always 55+ minutes). But I think the reason for their delay sometimes is that they try to make a quality product each time. My husband has heard the manager tell his workers "don't rush, make sure it is right" several times even when people are waiting. This might hurt their business a little for those who want more rush service. But so far it hasn't upset or inconvenienced us in the least. Actually we feel reassured when we hear this that our food will be well prepared with care. We have never been disappointed by Westage Pizza Bella food or service. Please give West Gate Pizza a try. Their food is always fresh, very reasonably priced and in our personal opinion, delicious! read more

One thing that I really love is that they don't serve pork. My husband is muslim so it's rare that we can share a meat pie that doesn't have pork on it, but this place uses beef sausage, beef meatballs, turkey bacon, and turkey ham. I tried 3 or 4 different places before stumbling upon Westgate Pizza and it was then that the search ended. I really am concerned with anyone eating at this place. We dropped my daughter off at school yesterday and decided to stop and eat here since my daughter likes their pizza. I ordered the margherita pie and while eating I kept biting into something crunchy. I didn't really think much of it thinking it hard piece of herb. I brought the rest home and brought it to work today. After 2 bites I bit something so hard I thought I broke my tooth. After spitting it out I inspected to find a piece of glass in my food. GLASS!
