I have been going to the one by the food courts for years. My go to is bite size ones in the bag. My favorite is the almond one. My daughter's favorite is the pizza flavor and if we had leftovers they would go into her lunchbox. The full pizza ones are also great for a go the meal. One time we had a playdate and I didn't want them to have such a large sugary slushy each but they could agree on a flavor. The staff was nice enough to let them have half cup of their flavor of choice in their own cups. Plus I think it fun for the kids to watch the pretzels being made. read more

Not sure why there's 2 stalls at Hillsdale, but when one is busy, chances are the other isn't. Might as well sign up for the rewards program since you accumulate points with each purchase and also get $5 off as a birthday reward. I like the almond crunch if I'm in the mood for something sweet or jalapeño for a kick. The cinnamon sugar version tends to be too sugary and they really load it up unless you request otherwise. Service is generally pretty quick and it's a sizeable snack that I can typically share between 2-3 people. read more

I like Wetzel's. I have fond memories of getting Wetzel's Pretzels with my sister whenever our parents had dropped us off at the mall for the day. It was tasty and, more importantly, it was within our little kid budgets. Now we're big girls with slightly bigger girl wallets but we still like Wetzel's! My sister loves their pizza pretzels but I just love the chewy texture of the original pretzel. So I got one today out of nostalgia while my sister and I were shopping in Hillsdale mall. Originally I wanted to go to Hillsdale Mall for both Auntie Annie's and Wetzel's for National Pretzel Day. Turns out Google Maps is inaccurate and Wetzel's also took over the Auntie Annie's location. Annie's had requested you use their app to order which was how I found out it's no longer at Hillsdale. I got a response from Wetzel's Instagram telling me all I had to do was ask for the free pretzel at checkout. Love it! Choice of original or salt pretzel - I went with original. Comes warm and chewy. You should finish the same day, don't wait until it goes stale the next day. Only drawback was that it was so hard to hear the cashier behind the thick plexiglass screen. read more

You can't go wrong with soft, buttery, warm carbs from Wetzel's Pretzels. Some places do get it wrong by over cooking them and making them very hard. I got a good batch. I went mid-afternoon so the mall wasn't that busy so I didn't have any issues with a long line or terrible service. I was in and out in no time. Haven't had Wetzel's in years, not since my retail employee days. Came here with the family on a Sunday and decided to treat the kids as well as myself by ordering one of their cheese pretzels and an order of their wetzel bites (paired with their cheese sauce, of course). The food was just as delicious as I remembered it - super heavy but so savory and amazing. They give you a ton of wetzel bites in one order, I think it's best to get at least 2 of the sauces to make sure you have enough. read more

What can I say? Staff is super rude and condescending. They claim to make cheesy bagel dog bites to order but every time my wife and I go there to order them they say they don't have any and fight tooth and nail NOT to make them. This has happened 3 times in the last few months. Every time we go there. This last time they also proceeded to talk crap in Spanish to one another about NOT making the order and saying "I didn't want to make them", then proceeded to laughed about it. I'm Asian but I understand Spanish, lady. What the hell is wrong with you!? They had the small hot dogs out on the counter, the dough and cheese. Why do we have to go downstairs? When we ordered something that they had in their case and asked for mustard, we got 1 packet. Not the dipping sauce, the small packet that is a tsp size. Will NEVER come back here. Whoever owns this joint needs to get a handle on their staff. This is ridiculous. Went from my favorite place to my most loathed. We grew up here (in our 40's) and this is one of the worst spots in Hillsdale Mall in decades. If we are just having a snack, my wife and I will share one, but a whole pretzel is actually enough for a light lunch. This location is by the entrance to the mall. I was thrilled to see that it was open as I was hungry. Plus I haven't had a soft pretzel since this awful pandemic began. The woman at the register had a hard time understanding me when I asked her if they had any sugar free lemonade. They don't. I got the impression that she doesn't understand English that well as she gave me a plain unsalted pretzel after I asked for one with butter & salt on it. She then put some butter & salt on it, but not enough. It tasted soft & fairly fresh still, but it was kind of plain tasting. I asked for napkins & she said it's in the bag. A little about me. I have been a Wetzel's Pretzels lover for a long time. Whenever I go to a mall in the Bay Area, they usually have one. I always get the same thing, a salted pretzel and cheese dipping sauce. ...and it's always good, especially if it's freshly made, no matter which location. This location inside the Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo is now located on the first floor, directly across from a super busy Starbucks. They are no longer at the 2nd floor location. I was shocked to see so many Wetzel's employees working in such a cramped workspace. The store is tiny! I mean, it's just a counter, like always, they have no seats for you to eat there. The staff was friendly and they all appeared to be working hard and very professionally. The pretzel I got was freshly baked! OMG, it was so good. Plenty of salt, just how I love it. One big complaint, it just isn't worth the $5. I could get a burrito for that much. So despite the fact I crave their pretzels and they taste great, I gotta give 4 stars. This visit was very good, the pretzels were fresh (I got the bitz), they were not burnt, not too greasy, right amount of salt. I also got the frozen strawberry lemonade. i got suckered into buying the larger size, but that's alright since I was thirsty. I could never do the Atkins or South Beach Diet....I love my carbs! I used to come here a lot when I worked at the mall to get a CHEAP snack or for a light "meal." I enjoy the: jalapeno cheese pretzel (hold the cheese dip cuz I don't do nacho cheese), the sinful cinnamon pretzel, & the pepperoni pretzel. The lemonade is good, and the granitas are tasty too but take forever to melt when I need something to quench my thirst. When did Pretzels become so mainstream and available!? Before they could only be found at the fairs or at street vendors now they're at all the malls and not just 1 but 2. I do have to say that I like Wetzels Pretzels over Auntie Ann's though. The pretzels are piping hot at WP and so are their dips. At AA, the pretzels are lukewarm, if that, and the dips are cold. What good is cold jalapeno cheese? BLECH! -1 star though b/c as we were walking towards the storefront the guy with the samples walked away. He has plenty of samples still in his little basket. We ordered anyhow b/c we were on a pretzel mission and didn't want anything too heavy from the food court. And -1 star b/c.... We ordered 2 plain pretzels, a dip, and a regular pomegranate lemonade (tasted like cherry, and I saw that the flavor came from a pump). He punched the order into the register and started to get the food together. Good thing we hadn't paid yet b/c as we were waiting I glanced over at the paper menu and saw that they had "Meal Deals". Now why weren't the deals posted overhead on the main menus??? Lame. Anyhow I asked him to change the order to the Lemonade combo, which was a pretzel, a dip, and a lemonade and to add another plain pretzel. Uhm, hello why didn't the fool tell us about the Meal Deal? Or for that matter just ring us up for the meal deal and the extra pretzel? He ended up voiding the order on the register and giving us the Meal Deal and the pretzel. Saving us over $1. Sheesh! It was nice of the server to ask if we wanted the "Dog Bites" order in a bag (you know, the ones that come in a tall paper cup). To share with the grandkids. Of course ( grrr! ) I didn't *look* in the bag. And so when we got home (25 miles), guess what? It was a *sack* of plain salted bagel bites ("WETZeL BItZ", apparently). Sigh.
